Sylvester Stallone is nearing a deal to return for at least two more seasons of the Paramount+ drama series “Tulsa King,” Variety has confirmed with sources.

Stallone, who is also an executive producer on the show, leads the cast of the mob drama, with his new deal paving the way for a two-season pickup for Seasons 3 & 4. Sources stressed, however, that the show has not been formally renewed at this point.

Reps for Paramount declined to comment.

I was skeptical about Tulsa King when it came out in 2022. The series seemed like the ultimate dad television show, featuring a weathered ’80s superstar that children’s grandparents talk about. From Rambo to Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Stallone’s films made over a billion dollars in the ’80s without today’s special effects.

Stallone’s dive into streaming television paid off handsomely. The first season was well received. Tulsa King, created by the minds behind Yellowstone and a former head writer of The Sopranos, does a masterful job of toggling between visceral violence and ominous black comedy.

In short, Tulsa King remains the brass-knuckles-bruising comedy we have come to love despite its considerable flaws.

On Instagram, Stallone shared an image of himself in a pinstripe suit with shades on his face and a stogie in his mouth. On the caption of the post, which garnered more than 405K likes in a few days' time, the actor wrote, "Don't F*** with Dwight." In a video shared on social media by Paramount+, Tulsa King star Sylvester Stallone tells fans, "You have no idea what's coming. Trust me." The first season of Taylor Sheridan’s “Tulsa King” is set to make its broadcast debut this summer, airing on CBS ahead of the Paramount+ release of Season 2.

This isn’t the first time Paramount Global is bringing a Sheridan streaming series over to its broadcaster: The network has seen major success by bringing “Yellowstone” from the Paramount Network to CBS. The first episode reached 6.6 million viewers, and as Variety exclusively reported, 50% of those viewers had never seen the show before. The CBS debut also drove some wins back to streaming — though on NBCUniversal-owned Peacock, which owns the “Yellowstone” rights — where Variety reported that viewership increased by 26% over a 10-day period. But with “Tulsa King,” all viewership bumps will remain in-house for Paramount.

Per the company, “Tulsa King” is the second-most-watched series on Paramount+, following only Sheridan’s “1923.”

Paramount is bringing more of its Taylor Sheridan universe to CBS.

After the broadcast network previously aired the first two seasons of Yellowstone as part of its strike-impacted schedule, CBS will use the same strategy to bolster awareness of another Sheridan-produced show: Tulsa King.

Season one of the Paramount+ drama starring Sylvester Stallone will make its broadcast debut at a date to be determined on CBS in the summer, ahead of the sophomore run of the series returning in the fall to the streamer.

The move to bring Tulsa King to broadcast is part of Paramount Global’s larger strategy to repurpose streaming originals on its linear platforms. In addition to exposing streaming content to a broader audience, the move is more cost effective than making and launching a new scripted or unscripted series in the traditionally lower-viewership time of the year.

Following the successful run of Yellowstone on CBS, another Taylor Sheridan series is getting a lineaer window on the linear network. The popular original Paramount+ drama Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, will make its broadcast debut on CBS this summer. The series’ first season will air on the network ahead of Season 2 launching this fall exclusively on Paramount+.

The stunt is part of the ongoing efforts by Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, Paramount+ and Yellowstone and Tulsa King studio MTV Entertainment Studios, to expose its content to new audiences on other platforms.

Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish addressed the move on the company’s earnings call Wednesday.

“We’re going to run the first season of Tulsa on CBS prior to the 2nd season of Tulsa dropping on Paramount+, really using it as a broad marketing engine,” he said. “As you know, we did a variant of that...

As the Sylvester Stallone drama Tulsa King gets renewed for a second season at Paramount+, Deadline has learned that the series showrunner for the first season, Terence Winter, will not be continuing in his position going forward. He will remain on board as executive producer, but Winter will now focus on other projects, which will include a streaming series with Martin Scorsese, whom he often collaborates with. Winter’s departure was due to a combination of unspecified creative differences and desire to focus on other projects, including an in-development streaming series with Martin Scorsese.

Paramount+ has not been shy about going all in on Taylor Sheridan and his ability to build a streaming universe out of “Yellowstone.” But why stop there? Sheridan’s “Tulsa King,” with Sylvester Stallone, has also been a big hit for the streamer, and Tanya Giles, chief programming officer, streaming with Paramount Global, told IndieWire that anything is possible.

“The short answer is absolutely. We’re open to the possibilities, everything,” Giles said between panels at Paramount+’s presentation at TCA on January 9. “What we love to do is take this valuable IP and turn anything into a franchise because we believe there’s a world of storytelling to be told that the audience can enjoy, and they love the characters. Let’s see where it can take us.”

To date, “Yellowstone” has been spun off as both “1883” with Sam Elliott and the current “1923” with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.

The renewal news comes a few weeks after the series, which stars Sylvester Stallone as a Mafia capo who gets out of prison and is reassigned to establish criminal operations in Oklahoma, debuted on Paramount+ on November 13. The show’s first episode also aired on Paramount Network following the Season 5 premiere of “Yellowstone,” where it drew 3.7 million total viewers over its first three days, according to Nielsen. And per Paramount+, the show’s premiere date became the biggest single sign-up day in the streaming service’s history.

Per the network, the Western fare mob series scored 3.7 million viewers with its linear preview, besting other new series of the year like HBO’s “House of the Dragon” and FX’s “The Old Man.” Additionally, Paramount+ said the show’s premiere drove the streaming platform to its biggest sign-up day in history.

“Tulsa King” made its debut on Nov. 13 on Paramount+ with two episodes. It received a special two-episode linear airing a week later on Nov. 20, following a new episode of “Yellowstone.”

I think we can all agree that "The Sopranos" is one of the best television series of all time — cast and crew included. Everyone that worked on the show loved it from the very beginning. It had a much more cinematic edge than other shows on television at the time, giving it a unique and undeniable flair. The show was so good that it had no equal, so there was no telling whether or not it would be a hit. In fact, some people on the production team thought that the show was so excellent that it would fly over the audience's heads. Stallone is the titular "Tulsa King," a mobster who gets out of jail and gets relocated to Oklahoma. The series is the latest from Taylor Sheridan, the man responsible for the ubiquitous "Yellowstone" franchise. "Tulsa King" will likely appeal to the same dads who love all-things "Yellowstone," especially since the thrust of the entire show seems to be Stallone's annoyance at all things modern.

His character, Dwight "The General" Manfredi, has been in prison for 25 years. As a result, the outside world is a mystery to him. He carries cash instead of a credit card! He doesn't have a cell phone! He doesn't understand why a coffee shop gives him a paper cup instead of one made of glass!

The hit Paramount drama will preview Yellowstone Season 5's first two hours in AMC Theaters on Saturday, October 29.

It's a great tactic to get some early buzz in the hopper for this hit drama series, but then again, if it continues to grow exponentially, it will continue to be the biggest series on TV.

The special event in AMC theaters also includes a first look the Taylor Sheridan's Tulsa King, which is set to premiere linearly the same night as Yellowstone.

Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States.

The Season 5 premiere of “Yellowstone” and the series premiere of “Tulsa King” will screen in over 100 AMC theaters ahead of both shows’ television debuts.

MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios are partnering with AMC to put both shows, which hail from Taylor Sheridan, in theaters on Saturday, Oct. 29. Paramount+ today unveiled the full-length trailer for “Tulsa King,” the upcoming mafia series starring Sylvester Stallone from “Yellowstone” creator, Taylor Sheridan.

The crime drama stars Stallone as New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi, who fresh off a 25-year prison sentence finds himself heading midwest on his boss’ orders. To set up his new criminal enterprise, Dwight taps a ring of locals to join his crew – and where he goes, violence and chaos inevitably follow.

The clip opens with Dwight’s homecoming, where he doesn’t receive the warm welcome he was expecting. As a thank-you for keeping his mouth shut for a quarter-century, his boss sends him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Dwight is clearly a fish out of water. By means of violence, intimidation and cold hard cash, he gets busy assembling his team.

Creator Taylor Sheridan had been intrigued by the idea of a show like Paramount+’s “Tulsa King,” which features Brooklyn-bred mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) being unceremoniously transplanted in Oklahoma. The “Yellowstone” creator, who also serves as executive producer, broke down the genesis of the series in a new making-of featurette.

“A gangster from New York to Middle America to establish the mob’s influence in the area — what an absurd comedy of errors that would be,” he said in the clip.

That’s when he brought on Terence Winter as showrunner and EP, who he believed would have a “keen understanding of this world and would appreciate a real fresh look at it” having served as a producer on “The Sopranos,” arguably the most well-known depiction of New York mobsters.

Production has wrapped on the first season of Tulsa King, and boy, is the champ tired.

In a video posted to his Instagram feed, star Sylvester Stallone said he had “so much fun” but he’s never worked so hard in his life. “What we came up with is something extraordinary and life changing for me,” said Stallone, while wearing a shiny blue suit, a bolero tie and a monstrous belt buckle. “Keep punching, love you guys.”
