Paramount to produce ‘High Side’, the high-octane motocross heist thriller starring Timothée Chalamet
Image
Paramount reunites Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold in ‘High Side’, a high-octane motocross heist thriller on superbikes.

Paramount Pictures has secured one of the hottest deals of the season: the production of ‘High Side’, a new action thriller that will reunite Timothée Chalamet with acclaimed director James Mangold, following their Oscar-nominated success with ‘A Complete Unknown’.

Described as a blend of ‘Heat’ and ‘Hell or High Water’, the film marks a dramatic genre shift for Chalamet, who will take on his first full-scale action role. Based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira, the plot follows Billy, a former motocross racer whose career was cut short by a devastating crash and a turbulent family past. His life takes a dangerous turn when his estranged brother ropes him into a string of bank robberies on superbikes. With the FBI closing in, Billy must use his racing skills for something far...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Worldwide Box Office: Outgrosses Harrison Ford’s Big-Budget Action-Adventure
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Overtakes A Major Action-Adventure Starring Harrison Ford (Photo Credit – Instagram)

The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened to a strong box office debut, backed by an impressive 86% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 7.3/10 IMDb rating. With such a promising start, Marvel’s latest superhero outing seemed poised for a blockbuster run. However, momentum slowed sooner than expected, as the film saw a sharp drop in its second weekend. The silver lining: with no major new releases, there’s little competition to pull audiences away from theaters.

Currently ranking among the year’s top ten highest-grossing films worldwide, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is projected to finish its theatrical run between $520 million and $570 million globally (per Screen Rant). Its current global total stands at over $385 million (per Box Office Mojo), so there’s still plenty of ground to cover. In its pursuit of profitability during its theatrical run,...

Timothée Chalamet
Paramount Pictures has beaten rival bidders for High Side, a motocross-driven heist thriller that will reunite Timothée Chalamet with director James Mangold, fresh off their eight-Oscar-nominated Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. The studio secured the package after a short but intense auction that drew multiple majors, signaling strong confidence in the project’s commercial appeal.

Chernin Entertainment is producing, while management outfit Sugar23 shopped the pitch across Hollywood and to publishers, generating parallel interest in a literary deal.

Paramount has officially won the auction for a major Timothée Chalamet movie. A two-time Oscar nominee, Chalamet is one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now, and certainly one of the most important stars of his generation. Right after this change, Variety confirmed that Paramount had won the bid for an upcoming Chalamet movie. They will distribute High Side, which is a motocross heist movie. According to the synopsis, Chalamet will lead as a former motocross racer who faces an accident, only...

Ebony and Ivory Review — Absurd, Painfully Awkward, Gonzo-Original
Image
I just watched an animated movie called Boys Go to Jupiter that was so weird and eccentric, I’m not sure I was in the right headspace to truly appreciate the experience until days later. Then came Ebony and Ivory, a film that might as well have “Nothing can prepare you” as its tagline, because I walked out of the screening asking myself, “What did we just watch?”

No, Ebony and Ivory is not a Hunter S. Thompson fever dream; it is a new film from writer/director Jim Hosking that cannot be labeled or quantified. Sure, “gonzo” seems like an appropriate term. Unhinged may be another. Though I am starting to think batsh*t crazy is more like it.

David Ellison Meets the Press
Image
In his first few minutes as the chief of the newly minted Paramount Skydance, David Ellison took the microphone and mostly deflected a bunch of questions from reporters who’ve followed every dramatic turn of the 13-month journey to close the $8 billion deal to take control of the venerable owner of Paramount Pictures and CBS.

The message from the mogul was urgent: Technology is coming to Hollywood, regardless of whether studios choose to embrace it, so Paramount hopes to take an artist-driven approach to it. That includes machine-learning to help with film and TV show discovery on streaming platforms, as well as an AI influence on “content generation,” but Ellison didn’t go into specifics about what that could mean. In an example cherry-picked for Hollywood, Pixar was cited for revolutionizing the animation world and ushering in an era of 3D animated blockbusters.

The Ellisons were framed as the “first...

“Dawn of the Jedi” or Delay of the Jedi? James Mangold’s Star Wars Epic Faces New Uncertainty
Image
James Mangold, director of Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, is set to helm a new Star Wars film titled Dawn of the Jedi. This film aims to delve into the origins of the Jedi Order, exploring the Force's beginnings approximately 25,000 years before the events of A New Hope. Mangold has described the project as a "Cecil B. DeMille-style biblical epic," drawing inspiration from classics like The Ten Commandments.

However, Mangold's involvement in another high-profile project, High Side, has raised concerns about potential delays for the Star Wars film. Reports in January 2025 suggested that the script for Dawn of the Jedi, co-written by Mangold and Andor’s Beau Willimon, is expected to be completed by the summer, with casting to follow. Production was reportedly tentatively scheduled to begin in December, though there was never official confirmation of this timeline.

Now, with Mangold's commitment to his new...

Deadline reports that Chalamet and Mangold are eyeing High Side as their next collaboration, a racing thriller based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira. Chernin Entertainment, who has frequently partnered up with 20th Century Studios, is attached to produce, but it seems the project is nothing more than a pitch at this stage. ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Slashes Hugh Jackman’s Oscar-Nominated Superhero Blockbuster at the Global Box Office
Image
Despite having debuted on home video weeks ago, Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon is still a force to be reckoned with in theaters. The live-action remake of the hit original animated film from 2010 has now passed How to Train Your Dragon 2 to becomethe franchise’s top-grossing installment. It has also revived faith in the idea of live-action remakes, along with the recent Lilo & Stitch. Disney had cornered this market for over a decade, but its films were beginning to show signs of wear and tear in recent years. Perhaps DreamWorks can take over the mantle from here on out, with a remake of How to Train Your Dragon 2 already dated for 2027.

Directed by Dean DeBlois, who was involved in each of the animated films, How to Train Your Dragon has grossed $260 million domestically and another $358 million from overseas markets. This puts the film’s cumulative global haul at $618 million,...

Henry Cavill on “Poring over old tomes and texts” to Create a Source Accurate Warhammer Series
Image
Henry Cavill once left the production of Netflix’s The Witcher series after portraying the role of Geralt of Rivia across three seasons in the iconic TV show. Cavill was also removed from James Gunn’s Dcu from the role of Clark Kent/Superman because Gunn didn’t want people to confuse the Dcu with Zack Snyder’s Dceu.

Well, facing closed doors eventually led Henry Cavill to follow his passion as the actor became actively involved in the development of a Warhammer 40K series based on the video games of the same name.

Back in December 2024, Henry Cavill posted a little photo on Instagram and gave some updates about the progress on his Warhammer series.

30 Highest Rated Movies of All Time, Ranked According to Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
There are plenty of movies that deserve to be universally praised. Maybe the casting is flawless, the story hits all the right notes, and the direction is top-tier. Fans walk away loving it, quoting it, rewatching it. But do the critics always agree? Not really. A film can have all the right ingredients and still miss the mark with critics.

Just look at something like Heat with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, or David Fincher’s Zodiac starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Both are modern classics in the eyes of fans, yet they’re not exactly topping the Rotten Tomatoes charts.

To truly earn a high Rotten Tomatoes score, a movie has to land with both audiences and critics alike. It has to offer something special, whether it’s a bold story, unforgettable characters, or a fresh take that no one saw coming. Some movies do just that, crushing it at...

Rewatching Hugh Jackman’s Dream Film Reveals a X-Men Movie Nod Hiding in Plain Sight
Image
The world might recognize Hugh Jackman for his X-Men role as Wolverine, aka Logan, but this man’s got range. Apart from appearing in the Marvel franchise and collaborating with Christopher Nolan in The Prestige, Jackman has also appeared in one of the most dreamy films of Hollywood. The musical starring Zac Efron and Zendaya—The Greatest Showman.

But did you know that despite being a musical full of color, dance, and dreams, The Greatest Showman couldn’t escape Hugh Jackman’s superhero roots? Yep, as per IMDb, the 2017 movie and his X-Men franchise are secretly connected. And this surprising link is all thanks to James Mangold, the man who directed Logan and helped shape Hugh Jackman’s musical.

Even though The Greatest Showman was directed by Michael Gracey, the studio brought in James Mangold during the final stage of production to help polish the film. And that’s why,...

Dafne Keen Would Never Do What She Did in Logan Audition After Nearly Losing The Role
Image
Much like Hugh Jackman will forever remain the image of Wolverine, Dafne Keen will be remembered for playing X-23 in Logan. But did you know, while the actress’ fierceness, and powerful portrayal totally stole the show in the 2017 movie, she almost blew her audition as an 11-year-old?

Turns out, getting that role wasn’t as easy as it looks now. Therefore, looking back at her audition for Logan, during the 2025 Calgary Expo, Dafne Keen shared a surprising story about how she nearly lost the role of X-23 because of a really bad final audition. She had already done five taped auditions and was super close to getting the part.

Well I was actually 11… the audition process was long. It was like I think I did like five self-tapes… I think the director probably thought was like “Who the is this kid?” and was like “Oh she seems interesting.”

But then...

Henry Cavill’s Red Dead Redemption 2 Movie Needs The Director Behind 2000s’ Best Western
Image
When I heard Henry Cavill wanted to be in a Red Dead Redemption 2 movie, I knew exactly who would be the right director for it, and it’s none other than James Mangold, the creative who helmed 3:10 to Yuma. I’ve poured hours into Arthur Morgan’s heartbreakingly human story, and I believe a team-up between these two would do justice to the game and the character.

RDR2 isn’t just any Western but a slow, poetic, brutal, and tragic lore. If it ever gets adapted on the screen, I only trust Mangold to bring all its devastatingly beautiful details to life. So, let’s break down why the game deserves the big screen treatment and why Mangold is the right man for the job.

Complete Unseen: New Doc on History of Newport Folk Festival Announced

For anyone who saw A Complete Unknown and wondered how close it resembled the actual Newport Folk Festival where Bob Dylan amped up his music, a new documentary will help answer that question.

Among the many films just announced as part of the annual Venice Film Festival in September is Newport & the Great Folk Dream, which documents the legendary (and ongoing) festival in the pivotal folk-to-rock years between 1963 and 1966. The doc includes footage of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band — some of it from the same...

'Yelllowstone' Fans Flock to Watch Star's 71% Rotten Tomatoes Dark Folk Horror
Image
Director Sean Ellis has had an unusual career; if it seems like his fellow Brits, David Mackenzie and Kevin Macdonald have been genre-agnostic, Ellis has taken things a step farther. He remains best known for the deeply affecting drama Metro Manila, which is essentially a foreign-language film. But a few years ago, he tried his hand at horror. He directed the werewolf movie The Cursed, starring Kelly Reilly and Boyd Holbrook, and while the film didn't make much of a dent at the box office, it's climbing up the streaming ranks following its Netflix debut.

According to FlixPatrol, The Cursed was the sixth-most-popular film on Netflix in the United States on July 20, beating the likes of Brick, Penguins of Madagascar, Despicable Me 4, and The Old Guard 2. That's quite a diverse slate of titles for any film to outperform, let alone one that barely got a theatrical release despite being designed for one.

Christian Bale’s 89% Rated Western Starring Marvel Star Has The Best Ending No One Talks About
Image
Christian Bale and Russell Crowe redefined what it means to be a hero and villain in James Mangold’s remake of the 1957 classic, 3:10 to Yuma. The movie has a critic score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet despite all the critical acclaim, its ending often gets overlooked.

The Gladiator and The Dark Knight star, who later appeared in the MCU, explored the dusty terrains together. Bale played Dan Evans, a struggling Civil War veteran-turned rancher, and Crowe portrayed Ben Wade, a charismatic outlaw who’d maybe shoot you, or recite a quote from the bible, depending on his mood.

James Gunn Confirms Luca Guadagnino Will No Longer Direct Sgt. Rock; Shares Big Swamp Thing Update
Image
The news broke in May that DC Studios had decided to shelve Sgt. Rock. There was some chatter about the movie shooting in 2026, but filmmaker Luca Guadagnino didn't exactly stick around and quickly moved on to a different project, Artificial.

His inexperience helming big-budget movies was listed as one of the possible reasons for Sgt. Rock's postponement, as were concerns about the UK's unpredictable weather. There were telltale signs of problems from the start, with Daniel Craig eyed to lead the movie before DC Studios suddenly pivoted to Colin Farrell.

Some believe Farrell was the cheaper option (James Gunn and Peter Safran don't appear keen on spending a huge amount of money on actors), despite Guadagnino being eager to reunite with Craig, whom he previously worked with on Queer.

Talking to Josh Horowitz, Gunn said he's still "hugely" excited to make Sgt. Rock, but when he was asked whether Guadagnino is still attached,...

Superman Star Nearly Played a Totally Different Marvel Heartthrob Before DC Snatched Him
Image
Superman is now in theaters and is marking a new era for the Dcu with David Corenswet at the forefront. However, director James Gunn and Corenswet himself have confirmed that the actor once auditioned for another one of Gunn’s movies, particularly set in the MCU.

On Threads, Gunn was recently asked about Corenswet and Lanterns star Aaron Pierre, both auditioning for a role in the director’s third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Gunn confirmed that the eventual Superman star auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock. Here is why I’m glad that he did not eventually land the role.

Superman Star David Corenswet Almost Played MCU’s Adam Warlock

David Corenswet was cast in the role of Clark Kent / Superman for James Gunn’s Dcu reboot featuring the Last Son of Krypton. As a result, Corenswet replaced Henry Cavill in the role. However, Corenswet...

DC Studios Confirms the Current State of 'Swamp Thing' After Cancellation Report
Image
There is still hope for Swamp Thing's Dcu future as news of the film's cancellation has been greatly exaggerated, according to James Gunn. Ever since the news broke that a previously announced Dcu title had been canceled, fans have been speculating which film it might have been. A recent interview with Gunn the other day had many speculating that the canceled film in question might have been James Mangold's Swamp Thing, given Gunn's comments that the film had a writer and director attached.

However, James Gunn has debunked the claims that Swamp Thing has been canceled. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, via Dcu Updates, Gunn confirmed Swamp Thing is still in development and that he recently spoke with James Mangold about the film. What is holding Swamp Thing up? James Mangold's other projects include the development of a Star Wars film centered on...

David Corenswet’s Star Wars Dream Can Come True in James Mangold’s Most Ambitious Movie
Image
Actor David Corenswet is fresh off the positive reception of his iteration of the iconic DC Comics superhero in Superman. During an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor admitted that there was one role he wanted to play more than the Man of Steel.

A Jedi was sort of my childhood dream.

Corenswet made the above statement, revealing his dream role, but admitted that he would also love to play an X-wing pilot in the space opera saga. The actor has expressed his admiration for the Star Wars franchise during his press interactions, and James Mangold can make his dream come true with his most ambitious project yet.

James Mangold's 'Swamp Thing' Movie Gets a Scary and Honest Update From DC Studios Boss
Image
Back when the first phase of the Dcu was announced, James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled a sprawling vision for a world that could house a wide range of projects, from typical superhero fare to comedic features and even horror. On that latter end was Swamp Thing, an exploration of the titular human/plant monster's dark origin story written and directed by James Mangold as a standalone addition to the universe. The new cinematic franchise is now starting to bear fruit with Superman and Creature Commandos, though news about the gothic and gooey tale has been harder to come by. It's been largely lost in the shuffle as other projects have taken precedence, but Gunn hasn't forgotten about the bio-chemical amalgamation that once was Alec Holland.

In a wide-ranging conversation with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn was directly asked about a long line of previously announced Dcu projects,...
