Tom Cruise‘s Deeper, starring Ana de Armas, has faced another hurdle, as according to Puck, director Doug Liman might be eying to part ways with the production, which is struggling to land a studio backing. While the movie was originally announced in 2016, based on a script by Max Landis, it wasn’t until the trio of Cruise, Liman, and Christopher McQuarrie got involved that the project was revived.
However, despite the goodwill generated by Cruise’s WB deal last year, the project appears to remain stalled as of now, following The Bourne Identity filmmaker’s reported shift to other projects.
Tom Cruise’s Deeper Remains in Deep Waters Amid Doug Liman’s Potential Exit
After McQuarrie rewrote Landis’ original script, Cruise and Liman, who had previously delivered Edge of Tomorrow for WB, joined forces for the deep-sea venture, and many felt the movie would find a home at WB.

Henry Cavill Dated Alexandra Daddario in 14% Rt Thriller That Toppled Tom Cruise on Streaming Charts
The only movie that paired two Hollywood crushes, Henry Cavill and Alexandra Daddario, the 2018 thriller Night Hunter has shockingly climbed the Paramount+ streaming charts, overtaking Tom Cruise’s blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick.
Despite having a meager 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Cavill’s movie is now sitting pretty at #2 on the platform, while Cruise’s high-flying sequel slips to #3 (via Flixpatrol). It’s the kind of unexpected twist no one saw coming, especially since Night Hunter was barely noticed when it first released.
But now, after decades, the film is suddenly finding a new audience on Paramount+, and fans can’t stop talking about it online. Whatever might be the reason, the thriller’s streaming comeback is turning heads.
Henry Cavill and Alexandra Daddario’s Thriller Was Unfairly Slammed Upon Release
When you hear the names Henry Cavill and Alexandra Daddario, you probably think of blockbusters, red carpets, and fan-favorite roles like Superman or Annabeth Chase.

In the wake of Josh Brolin’s upcoming horror thriller Weapons, the actor has churned the rumor mill surrounding the highly anticipated threequel, Sicario: Capos. In a new interview with Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin said the chances of Sicario 3 happening are “very, very real.”
That’s a big deal considering the silence around the project for years. The original Sicario (2015), directed by Denis Villeneuve, was a gritty and intense thriller loved by critics and fans. But its sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, didn’t live up to the hype, especially with Emily Blunt missing from the cast.
Now, talks of Sicario: Capos are heating up again, with a partially written script that producers are reportedly calling “awesome.” However, no director is officially attached to the project, since Villeneuve has indicated he would not be involved, and Stefano Sollima refused to return after the disappointing sequel.

Vanessa Kirby has carved a throne for herself in modern cinema, from her regal turn as Princess Margaret to high-octane roles in Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious. She stunned the Academy with her performance in Pieces of a Woman, and recently joined Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps as Sue Storm — a role that’s already winning her praise. Henry Cavill, meanwhile, has marched through pop culture like a mythic figure, donning Superman’s cape, wielding Geralt’s brooding armor in The Witcher, and soon picking up a sword for the Highlander reboot. Now, one of their most electrifying collaborations is surging in popularity all over again.

If there is one thing Tom Cruise knows, it’s how to create buzz, and right now, the buzz seems to be all about his rumored relationship with the ‘Ballerina‘ star, Ana de Armas. Reports have stated time and time again that the two seem to be happy together as they move ahead in their relationship, one step at a time. Tom Cruise has already starred in one of the biggest blockbusters of the year in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, but now another of his most famous movies has made a surprising move on streaming. Cruise stars alongside Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow, the 2014 sci-fi thriller following a man who gets stuck living the same day over and over again while fighting a war against aliens. Edge of Tomorrow had previously been streaming on Hulu in July, but after leaving the platform at the end of the month, it has since been scooped up by Peacock, where it is now streaming for all subscribers. This article contains spoilers for "The Naked Gun."
In Nicole Kidman's version of the cinephile's pledge of allegiance, we come to movie theaters to laugh, to cry, and to care, yet we don't seem to be doing much of the first part. To be fair, there have been several great theatrical comedies released over the past five years like the screamingly funny slapstick epic "Hundreds of Beavers," but they've rarely come from major studios. There are, of course, exceptions like "Barbie" or the miniature success of "No Hard Feelings," but otherwise, recent studio comedies have gone underseen, been relegated to streaming, or simply not been made. A comedy like 2023's extremely funny "Joy Ride" simply isn't treated with the same fervor as a blockbuster action movie. But if there's one film this year that possesses the power to hopefully change that tide, it's "The Naked Gun."

Tom Cruise Almost Voiced a Squirrel in a Short Film & It Was Surprisingly Close to Happening (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Tom Cruise once thought a talk show couch was the perfect launchpad for showing the world he had more energy than caffeine and adrenaline combined. Well, since then he has gone into cruise control, quite literally, sticking to what he knows best like sprinting, leaping off cliffs, clinging to planes and occasionally flying them. If the role does not require him to defy gravity, he usually does not answer the call.

Adapting a famous novel is a monumental task for any filmmaker, particularly if that novel has already received an acclaimed adaptation. Yet, that is exactly what first-time feature director Ken’ichirô Akimoto did with All You Need Is Kill, and while enough of his ambitious swings pay off that the film stands out, several of its elements leave something to be desired.
All You Need Is Kill Review
All You Need Is Kill is adapted from Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s novel and follows a young soldier who finds herself trapped in a time loop after being killed by an otherworldly threat. If this premise sounds familiar, that’s because it probably is. The novel from which this movie is adapted was also the inspiration for 2014’s Tom Cruise actioner Edge of Tomorrow, a big-budget spectacle with a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie (the Mission: Impossible franchise) and Jaz and John-Henry Butterworth (Ford v.

The Usual Suspects isn’t just a crime thriller—it’s a twisted mind game that still leaves viewers gasping even 30 years later. Directed by Bryan Singer and written by Christopher McQuarrie, this 1995 neo-noir film is packed with mystery, mind-bending storytelling, and one of the greatest plot twists in movie history.
You think you know exactly what’s going on, until you don’t. The story follows five criminals brought together for a police lineup. But what starts as a simple heist turns into something much deeper, darker, and more confusing, especially when a mythical crime lord named Keyser Söze enters the picture.
The film unfolds through the narrative of Roger “Verbal” Kint, played by Kevin Spacey in an Oscar-winning performance. As his character recounts the events leading up to a fiery massacre on a boat, the audience—just like the detective questioning him—is forced to piece together the puzzle.

Mission: Impossible 8 Box Office: Global Run Slows Down, May Miss $600M Milestone (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has nearly wrapped up its theatrical run worldwide, and the clock is ticking. The film, after more than two months in cinemas, is inches away from reaching the $600 million mark globally, but it is struggling to close the gap before landing on home video.
It recently managed to edge past its immediate predecessor, Dead Reckoning ($571m), but both films have faced uphill climbs at the box office. Originally planned as back-to-back chapters, they spent over five years in production after getting tangled in delays from the pandemic and industry strikes.

With a couple of weeks left before it debuts on home video, Paramount’s Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is running out of time to pass what will likely be its final global box office milestone. The movie has spent over two months of release in theaters worldwide, but is sitting on the edge of the $600 million mark. It recently overtook its immediate predecessor, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning. Originally announced as back-to-back productions, the films ended up being shot for over half-a-decade. Both movies also underperformed at the box office, against budgets that escalated due to the pandemic and the industry-wide strikes of 2023.
With $196 million at the domestic box office, The Final Reckoning has virtually no chance of passing the $200 million mark. It’s playing in only 300-odd theaters, and will probably lose more as its home video release date nears. The film has grossed another $395 million from overseas markets,...

It's hard to believe the "Mission: Impossible" film series as we know it has come to a close (maybe). This franchise has practically dominated Tom Cruise's career for the better part of the last 30 years, culminating in "The Final Reckoning," a messy yet nevertheless still thrilling motion picture full of spectacle like only Cruise and filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie can deliver.
"The Final Reckoning" is the rare entry in the "Mission: Impossible" property that tries to tie together events from the previous installments, even making "Mission: Impossible III" a crux point of the entire franchise and bringing a forgotten character from the original 1996 film back. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it makes the whole thing feel bigger and heightens the stakes as Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is forced to reexamine his past in order to accomplish the mission at hand.
Of course, as audiences have come to expect,...

Of course, as audiences have come to expect,...

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning opened earlier this summer with a franchise-best opening. Audiences were in awe at Tom Cruise still ratcheting up his stunt resume for this entry, as the film both featured a deep ocean dive into a submarine and a sequence where he hangs onto a biplane for dear life. With all the pageantry and the many callbacks, this movie gave the impression that it could serve as the ultimate conclusion, but we all know, if Tom wanted to, and he snapped his fingers, the studio would be back with a new one.

The last chapter of Tom Cruise's iconic action franchise, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, is finally hitting digital platforms. The film, which has grossed $588 million worldwide, did not end up being the smash-hit success at the box office some expected. However, it has more than taken advantage of its extended theatrical run, and now sets its sights on home entertainment.
Paramount announced that Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning will be headed to digital and Premium video-on-demand (PVOD) on August 19. It's unclear when it will arrive on a streaming service, presumably Paramount+, but expect another announcement sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, The Final Reckoning will be getting a physical Blu-ray release on October 14. Ethan Hunt's last hurrah (for now) could soon become a part of your personal Mission: Impossible collection, which still has a chance to get expanded at some point in the future should a ninth installment be announced.

Tom Cruise starred in one of the biggest movies of the year with Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, but now that the film has been playing in theaters for nearly two months, it’s finally time for it to take its next step. Paramount Pictures has officially announced that the eighth (and likely final) Mission: Impossible movie is coming to digital platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home on August 19, just under one month from today. This comes after the film is finally winding down its run at the box office with $588 million globally, including $195 million from domestic markets and $392 million internationally. The Final Reckoning also holds a “certified fresh” 80% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a “verified hot” 88% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.
The Final Reckoning sees Tom Cruise suit up as Ethan Hunt one last time for his most important mission yet: stopping the Entity once and for all.

Up, up and away! This looks like a job for Superman’s agents.
After breaking out as “Superman” in the title role, David Corenswet has become Hollywood’s newest leading man. But for the 31-year-old actor, his newfound superhero stardom is also the town’s most notorious career trap.
Corenswet must quickly leverage his breakout role into the right projects before the cape starts to feel like an albatross around his neck. “Superman” has won over critics and fans and delivered a second strong week of box office returns, with Corenswet’s performance being singled out as a particular highlight. He brings Superman back to his boy scout roots and makes the man of steel vulnerable and relatable.
But the career trajectory for actors who have portrayed Superman has been largely abysmal.

After playing in theaters worldwide for two full months — the movie was given all the room possible to spread its wings — Paramount’s Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoningis staring at a disappointing end to its theatrical run. Unlike its predecessor, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, which debuted in the wake of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and didn’t get a proper roll-out in IMAX, The Final Reckoning didn’t face direct competition for at least a couple of weeks following its debut. However, the film’s divisive reviews and conflicted audience response stopped it from recapturing the past glory of Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
Released in 2017, Fallout earned a near-perfect 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed nearly $800 million worldwide in its box office run. The Final Reckoning needed to beat this number in order to break even, considering its massive budget of $400 million. Costs...

30 years ago, The Usual Suspects arrived in theaters and drove pop culture completely wild with its mad genius. Written by Christopher McQuarrie, Suspects won him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay while Kevin Spacey won another for Best Supporting Actor.
Meanwhile, whoever said it takes two to tango must not have met Tom Cruise. The powerhouse actor is single-handedly capable of reviving the cinematic industry through sweat, blood, and tears. There isn’t a single genre that Cruise has not indulged himself in, and continues to remain marvelous as ever in every single one of them.
The only thing now missing is an Oscar to make his career complete. And it looks like that, too, will be an easy task for the eclectic star, considering his current relationship with McQuarrie.

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Overtakes Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man At Global Box Office(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning has climbed several box office charts in its ninth weekend, once again proving the franchise’s longevity. Particularly at the domestic box office, it has exhibited stellar performance despite fierce competition from new releases like Superman and Jurassic World: Rebirth.
One might even wonder how well the movie would command without rival studio Disney aggressively claiming multiple screens, as the forthcoming release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to deter Final Reckoning viewings to precipitously drop before the $600 million worldwide. However, Disney has been served justice, as it suffered another setback at the hands of Final Reckoning, particularly challenging the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Netflix’s July slate includes more than a few high-profile film originals, including “The Old Guard 2” and Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore 2.”
In addition to its own, in-house movies, though, the streamer has also added an exciting batch of film acquisitions to its platform this month. Some of the noteworthy July additions to Netflix’s library include an unfairly oft-forgotten Tom Hanks thriller, an enduring 1980s classic, the most underrated “Mission: Impossible” movie and one of the most important films in Hollywood history.
Here are TheWrap’s picks for the seven best movies that have started streaming on Netflix in July.

om Cruise doesn’t slow down when it comes to Mission: Impossible stunts. For his latest movie, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1, he jumped off a mountain while riding a motorcycle. Cruise himself called it “my craziest stunt yet.” He’s always done his own dangerous stunts, but this time, it was more extreme than ever.
Filming this movie wasn’t easy. According to Variety, the team planned to start shooting in Venice in early 2020. But when Covid-19 spread across Italy, everything stopped. After a short break, the crew returned to England to practice stunts and get ready.
Later in 2020, the team moved to Norway. That’s where Cruise performed the famous motorcycle jump off a cliff. Director Christopher McQuarrie shared photos from the set on Instagram when filming really kicked off. Cruise also filmed a risky fight scene on top of a moving train in Norway. He did that with actor Esai Morales.

In the year 2008, Marvel Studios debuted the film Iron Man, with no idea that it would alter the landscape of blockbuster filmmaking forever. The movie was directed by Jon Favreau, and reportedly almost starred Tom Cruise in the lead role. But the director was determined to hire the then-wildcard Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. After a difficult tug-of-war with the studio, Downey was signed for the project, which became a runaway hit at the box office. Iron Man grossed around $585 million worldwide, and has now been overtaken by the latest film starring the man who almost headlined it.

Having played in theaters for nearly two full months, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning could possibly fall short of the $200 million milestone domestically. This would be a big blow for the movie, which was touted as the final installment of the long-running action franchise. Even Captain America: Brave New World managed to hit the $200 million mark at the domestic box office in its otherwise disappointing run, and it cost a fraction. The Final Reckoning, however, has performed better overseas. The film's international total is set to hit the $400 million milestone, having already overtaken one of the most iconic blockbusters of the last two decades.
In its eighth weekend of release, The Final Reckoning hit the $390 million mark in international revenue, and, in doing so, managed to pass the overseas total of Michael Bay's first Transformers movie. Released in 2007, Transformers grossed over $700 million at the worldwide box office, against...

Tom Cruise’s Film That He Still Regrets ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
There’s one movie Tom Cruise wishes he could erase from his filmography—and it’s not the one you’re thinking. Long before Top Gun and Mission: Impossible, the Hollywood superstar found himself in a film so forgettable, even he openly regrets doing it. Losin’ It came early in Tom Cruise’s career. It was an adult comedy meant for teens that landed in 1982. The movie followed a group of boys chasing after the usual coming-of-age plot. The Mission: Impossible star did not like it back then, and the years have not changed his mind. The film did not offer much in the way of substance, and he later admitted it taught him something important: that he never wanted to do that kind of project again.

Twenty-five years ago, the evolution of comic book movies leaped forward. On July 14, 2000, Marvel Comics' not-so-merry band of mutants, the X-Men, made their way from the comic pages to the big screen, changing the company's cinematic fortunes and making the box office safe for the team-based superhero movies that would follow years later.
It should be noted off the top that Blade ice-skated uphill so that X-Men could run downhill to franchise-launching success. Wesley Snipes' 1998 vampire movie brought the comic-book movie genre back from the brink of extinction courtesy of the mega-bomb that was 1997's Batman & Robin. Blade was also the first Marvel Comics-derived film that didn't fall into direct-to-video hell like failed versions of Captain America and The Punisher, and Roger Corman's never-released take on the Fantastic Four.
Still, X-Men's existence was far from guaranteed even after Blade pointed a way forward for Marvel.

Tom Cruise recently lit the world on fire with his performance in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, but eight years ago, he starred in a critically panned supernatural horror thriller that’s been a force on streaming charts. Cruise stars alongside Russell Crowe in The Mummy, the 2017 horror film following an ancient Egyptian princess who awakens from her tomb and brings with her incomprehensible terrors. The Mummy is currently streaming on both Netflix and Prime Video globally, and it’s been one of the most popular movies around the world, charting in countries such as the Dominican Republic, Thailand, Singapore, and more. The Mummy earned abysmal scores of 15% from critics and 35% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but it still grossed $409 million at the global box office against a $125 million budget. The film is, unfortunately, only available to rent or purchase on Prime Video in the U.S.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise's supposed final outing as the action hero Ethan Hunt, has now been in theaters for the better part of seven weeks, and still plays in more than 1,500 theaters nationwide. On the movie's most recent Monday, July 7, it took another $325,000 domestically, with additional international ticket sales edging the film to $576 million worldwide, split between a domestic haul of $191.5 million and a further $385 million from overseas markets.
Because of this, the film has hit even more financial milestones, despite the inevitable failure to hit the all-important $800 million target set from a reported $400 million production budget. Nevertheless, Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie, and others can enjoy yet another moment of success, as The Final Reckoning officially surpasses another of Cruise's action flicks, which saw the Hollywood icon team up with director Joseph Kosinskiyears before they made more than $1.4 billion with Top Gun: Maverick.

After a rather underwhelming theatrical run, Paramount's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is looking forward to passing what could be its final box office milestone: the $600 million mark. While this would've been a terrific result in different circumstances, the issue of The Final Reckoning's reported budget of $400 million makes it undeniably disappointing. The movie needed to gross at least $200 million more, and that, too, just to break even. But it seems like audiences have run out of patience for director Christopher McQuarrie's elaborately designed take on the action franchise, after a sudden pivot with these last two films.
The Final Reckoning was sold as the last installment of the franchise. But there hasn't been any official word on this yet, leading many to believe that this was simply a marketing plot to boost awareness. Regardless, the film's inflated costs left little room for error for the studio,...

The first film in the franchise to place Christopher McQuarrie in the director’s chair, “Mission: Impossible 5 – Rogue Nation” treads a path that feels deeply, unmistakably familiar. But with a high-stakes, high-reward spy thriller, this self-aware—armed with irreverent action and an even more irreverent sense of fan-service—that scent of sameness mutates into something volatile, almost intoxicating. And for once, for all the right reasons. Yet what’s even more compelling is how McQuarrie’s writing consciously charts its influences: there are deliberate nods to the James Bond universe, a thematic fit for a film that released the same year as the conversation-sparking “Spectre.” These gestures are smartly fused with the energetic, character-rich precision of Brad Bird’s direction in “Ghost Protocol,” preserving the blind loyalty we continue to place in the godlike charisma of Ethan Hunt.
What makes “Rogue Nation” tick, though, is how it builds itself around its many ‘firsts.

Time is running out for Paramount’s Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which has now completed six full weeks of release at the box office. The movie debuted to divisive reviews and hasn’t quite been able to meet the astronomically high benchmark that it set for itself commercially.

In 2020, the pandemic wreaked havoc on all walks of life, and while it pales in comparison to the millions of loved ones lost around the world, the summer movie season was also a casualty of that devastating time period.
Direct-to-consumer releases were still happening, but event movies, for the most part, were not. Fortunately, Netflix still had its summer slate intact, and through an early screening and an effusive tweet, filmmaker Victoria Mahoney signaled that Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Old Guard would be a sight for sore eyes upon its July release. Having seen the soulful action drama early myself, I remember agreeing wholeheartedly with Mahoney’s assessment about one of the only sizable summer movies we received that year.
It turns out that Mahoney kept rewatching The Old Guard throughout the ongoing pandemic. And she wasn’t alone, as the film soon became one of Netflix’s most viewed films at the time.

We almost got a Man of Steel sequel from the director of the last four Mission: Impossible movies. And according to him, it would have been “so f***ing good.”
With James Gunn’s Superman reboot finally here, talk of a sequel, crossovers, and even some early Justice League teases are already circulating online.
As of the recording of this video, I haven’t seen Superman yet—but one thing’s for sure: if this movie does even a little bit well, we can count on a sequel going into development right away.
Or can we?
See, Superman’s cinematic journey has never exactly been smooth. There’s Superman Lives, the infamous unmade project from Kevin Smith and Tim Burton, J.J. Abrams’ scrapped Superman: Flyby, and even the announced-then-silently-scrapped Man of Steel 2—which would have starred Henry Cavill and been directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

Tom Cruise's upcoming thriller with Ana de Armas, Deep, has reportedly hit a setback over budgetary concerns. Both Cruise and de Armas are two of the biggest action stars of the moment, with the former leading up the Mission: Impossible franchise and the latter coming into her own with No Time to Die and Ballerina.
In fact, when Ballerina hit theaters back in June, Cruise was publicly supportive of the movie, which increased anticipation for his collaboration with de Armas. Deep is described as an undersea adventure and will be directed by Doug Liman, with Christopher McQuarrie providing rewrites to Max Landis' script.
Deep is still fairly early in the production stages, but according to Puck, it's already running into some major problems. The movie was set up at Warner Bros. and looking at a pricey $275 million budget. However, execs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have reportedly told...

Top Gun: Maverick isn’t just flying high – it’s still in the stratosphere. Two years after landing on Paramount+, Tom Cruise’s monster hit is back at #1 on the platform’s most-watched list, proving once again that America can’t resist a little speed, sweat, and a whole lot of aviator sunglasses. It also helps that Maverick is, well, kind of perfect. Top Gun: Maverick was described by multiple critics as “the movie every American needs to see,” and that’s not hyperbole. With its thunderous IMAX jet sequences, sweaty beach sports, and Cruise’s relentless need for speed, it somehow turned a decades-old military sequel into a spiritual experience. And now it’s doing it all over again on streaming.
After grossing more than $1.4 billion at the global box office off a $170 million budget, the film became the biggest hit of Cruise’s career – by a mile. It...
