Renny Harlin’s Deep Blue Sea will be making the leap to 4K Ultra HD courtesy of Arrow Video. The guilty pleasure shark flick is one of my absolute favourites, so I am thrilled. The limited edition 4K set (which will also be released on Blu-ray) will be released on March 18, 2025.

The official synopsis reads: “At an isolated research facility in the middle of the ocean, a team of scientists, led by Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows), are working on a cure for Alzheimer’s by genetically altering the brains of sharks. When a shark escapes and attacks a pleasure boat, the company sponsoring the research threatens to pull its funding and sends corporate executive Russell Franklin (Samuel L. Jackson) to investigate. McAlester has just 48 hours to prove the value of her work, but her experiments have made the sharks smarter. No longer happy to be injected, prodded, and caged, they begin to turn the tables.

The 1999 killer shark movie has been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negatives, approved by Harlin, with original DTS HD-ma 5.1 and Dolby Atmos audio.

2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the Renny Harlin shark thriller Deep Blue Sea (watch it Here) – and all these years later, one of the film’s stars is still waiting to have a rematch with the genetically engineered mako sharks at the heart of the story. That actor is LL Cool J, whose character Sherman “Preacher” Dudley was originally supposed to die in the movie (and LL Cool J has said that he nearly died for real during filming), but Harlin decided Preacher should be one of the few people to make it all the way to the end credits, which then had an LL Cool J song playing over them.

Two years have gone by since we learned that Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) had signed on to star in Piper, a new horror film from director Anthony Waller. More than a year has passed since the film had its world premiere at FrightFest… but now it’s ready for a wider release. Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has picked up Piper distribution rights and will be making it available to rent/own on all North American digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD, as of November 12th.

Yesterday, we shared a new interview with director Renny Harlin that mostly focuses on his latest film, the action movie The Bricklayer, which was given a theatrical, On Demand, and Digital release earlier this month. But the interview also branches out with mentions of other Harlin projects, including the 1999 shark thriller Deep Blue Sea (watch it Here), which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. During his conversation with JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray, Harlin revealed that Samuel L. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the movie is set to have its world premiere at FrightFest this Sunday, August 27th – and ahead of the premiere, a trailer for Piper has arrived online! There’s a petition to let Warner Bros. know there’s interest in this idea, and the campaign has not only earned a show of support from the film’s star Thomas Jane (who said it would be “kinda fun” to see if fans can get the studio’s attention), but even a financial contribution from Harlin, who felt his contribution might help with the legitimacy of this fan movement.

Liz Hurley comes up against an evil, child-stealing folklore legend in supernatural thriller Piper, which THR shares a first look from.

The film is a darker and contemporary twist on the Pied Piper of Hamelin story, whose vindictive restless spirit seeks out those who have gotten away with a crime, and punishes them by taking away their children, explains the site.

“Piper follows Émigré Liz (Hurley), who moves to a quaint German town with her daughter Amy (Mia Jenkins) but ends up in the Piper’s crosshairs when it is revealed she’s hiding a dark secret from her past that puts Amy’s life in jeopardy. The girl’s only hope for salvation comes when she falls for a young and mysterious street magician, Luca. Can he save her from the Piper’s clutches?”

Critics seem to love it, but fans do not as much. Why is Masters of the Universe: Revelation so divisive?

“Last week, a sequel series to the 1983–1985 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series was released, titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation. While getting overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, it received a mixed response from audiences.

Creating a unique spin on the horrifying shark attack seems to be all but unfathomable. Somehow a crew of screenwriters that consists of John Kim Russell Mulcahy Shayne Armstrong Duncan Kennedy Shane Krause and Justin Monjo made the unfathomable very inyourface and tangible. Bait 3D works on an unbelievable level and it admittedly only works because the story is intriguing enough to distance it from the typical shark flick.

Really, Bait simply flounders as the shallow characters and weak storyline massage you into apathy. Speaking of storylines, Bait focuses on the plot devices rather than the characters. There are rogue tidal waves, bank robberies, roaming sharks and the threat of electrocution. But, none of these elements create for an.

Anchor Bay have picked up Us distribution rights for Kimble Rendall's ('Cut') new Aussie-set tiger shark thriller 'Bait'. The 3D feature has been kicking around for a while now and is set for a domestic theatrical release in Australia on 6 September. No word currently on a UK release or indeed the Us date but we can imagine it'll be around a similar time for both. Russell Mulcahy ('Resident Evil: Extinction') and John Kim provided the script which has been touched up, tweaked and added to by the likes of Duncan Kennedy ('Deep Blue Sea'), Shayne Armstrong, Shane Krause and Justin Monjo.
