Shining the light on Kunal Kohli’s rom-com, Hum Tum starring Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan as it clocks 21 years!
Hum Tum is a boy-meets-girl tale with no unexpected twists and turns. Its greatest Usp is its disarming lack of guile. Kohli nurtures his two protagonists’ stormy relationship through several continents and a gigantic time zone that spawns more than a decade(though neither Saif nor Rani bring a change in their look or attitude, except maybe in Saif’s hairstyle).
The ‘epic’ design doesn’t weight down the basic levity of the romantic comedy.
And what we end up looking at isn’t so much a celebration of universal love as two clumsy people grappling with the grammar of the emotion called love , who don’t get the punctuations right. But director Kohli, whose earlier film Mujhse Dosti Karoge was clogged with incongruities, gets all the pauses and punctuations right.

Bombairiya
Starring Radhika Apte, Akshay Oberoi, Ravi Kissan, Siddhant Kapoor, Adil Hussain, Amit Sial
Directed by Pia Sukanya
Mumbai, or Bombay as we all know it, is a schizophrenic city. Inviting welcoming affectionate and warm one minute, hostile, intimidating and disorienting the next…. Bombairiya captures the polarized propensities of the split city with vigour and humour.
Sure, towards the midpoint the edifice of chaos built on the premise of ‘One Day in the Life Of Radhika Apte’(she gets top solo billing) begins to fall apart. And you feel the film is trying to cram in too much physical activity at the cost of giving the plot and the characters space to breathe.
But then , this is a homage to a breathless city. And the rhythms of the film follow suit.No time to ask why. Just act.
There is an unstoppable energy about the film that doesn’t always work in its favour.
