There's some great potential for Star Trek characters to get their due in audio dramas, and the franchise should explore that!
A big project coming for Star Trek fans is the upcoming Khan audio dramatization. Naveen Andrews steps into the role Ricardo Montalban made iconic as Khan Noonien Singh, the genetically engineered tyrant who clashed with Kirk in "Space Seed" and The Wrath of Khan film.
The audio drama will focus on Khan in his exile on Ceti Alpha V, explaining how he survived and what turned him into the madman of the second film. It will use some books and comics for the tale, but the push is an audio drama of a story that was ignored on film.
It makes fans wonder what other Trek characters could benefit from an audio series. Sure, there are the big ones of the main crews, but also a lot of recurring...

In 1982, Captain Kirk uttered one word that would forever change the landscape of Star Trek. That word: Khan. Memorably screamed by William Shatner in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the villainous Khan Noonien Singh is the subject of a new scripted audio drama.

The future of “Star Trek” is here and it truly is boldly going to some new and undiscovered places. (Check out our ranking of every “Star Trek” live-action show). The message from Paramount+’s presentation for the franchise July 26 at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H isn’t boundary- and format-pushing alone: It’s clear that they want to package new things with some heavy doses of the familiar — major stars, beloved returning franchise vets, and some cutesy gimmicks.
Take a look at the teaser for “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.”
There are a ton of new faces there for the 32nd Century-set show, as much of the cast is teenage and 20-something newcomers. August will be a pretty distressing month for fans of Lost, but those in the U.S. have nothing to worry about — yet. The award-winning series remains one of the greatest of all time, having impacted numerous subsequent TV projects and popular culture at large. Comprising six seasons and 121 episodes, Lost ran from September 22, 2004, to May 23, 2010, and was eventually released on a few streaming platforms, including Netflix. Sadly, the sci-fi drama’s time on the streamer is about to come to an end globally, with only a few months left for subscribers in the U.S. as well.
Netflix acquired the rights to Lost in July 2024, as part of a deal with Disney, covering both the U.S. and worldwide markets. What’s on Netflix has now announced that all six seasons of the series will be removed from the streamer in international regions on August 15, as the last day...

It’s been almost 15 years since Lost’s series finale aired on ABC, but we’re still in awe of so many things the drama did — especially its focus on its characters and the unexpected and memorable ways in which they interacted and impacted each other’s lives. With such a massive ensemble cast, everyone had (and still has) their favorite island inhabitant; some might choose the good doctor and reluctant survivor leader Jack (Matthew Fox), while others might pick the brave and adventurous Kate (Evangeline Lilly), the resourceful and fiercely loyal Sayid (Naveen Andrews), or even the ultimate romantic Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick). They’re all solid choices, of course, but we’re big fans of Sawyer (Josh Holloway) a.k.a. James Ford. Before Josh Holloway’s Duster brings the actor back for a new swaggery and shaggy beau named Jim in a new J.J. Abrams show, we...

When news broke on Friday afternoon that Amazon wouldn’t be making a second season of the comedy Clean Slate, media reaction hovered between two viable extremes: “Amazon Cancels Show We Never Knew Existed” and “Amazon Canceled Norman Lear’s Kinda-Final Show.”
I can understand both approaches. Despite the presence of stars Laverne Cox and George Wallace, Lear’s posthumous credit was the highest-profile thing Clean Slate had going for it, and despite all of those elements, I never heard anybody mention Clean Slate out in the wild. It was an invisible show in a landscape that too frequently renders all but the biggest titles invisible.
For me, though, the abrupt end of Clean Slate represented the end of a different, less-heralded era: that of Freevee’s half-hour development, one of the most creatively interesting and commercially botched pieces of brand-building in recent memory.

Actor and writer Simon Pegg still has hope for Star Trek 4. Speaking at Awesome Con, Pegg talked about how much he would love to return to the world of Star Trek. The popular sci-fi reboot began in 2009 with J.J. Abrams as the director and showed a new version of the classic crew by using an alternate universe.
Two more films followed, but fans have been waiting for a fourth movie ever since.
At the event, Pegg said, “I’d like us to do another movie. I would be happy to get back with those guys and do another movie, whatever the story is. I love my Enterprise crewmates; they’re the sweetest people. I was so proud of Zoe winning an Oscar this year.”
Pegg isn’t the only one ready to return. Chris Pine, who played Captain Kirk, also wants to come back. But everyone knows there’s a big challenge ahead.

It's hard to imagine that over 20 years have passed since audiences all around the world were first introduced to the diverse group of passengers of the ill-fated Flight 815 in the 2004 cultural phenomenon Lost, a mind-bending sci-fi supernatural series that focuses on the traumatized survivors as they find themselves stranded on a mysterious tropical island in the South Pacific. Touting a stacked ensemble cast led by Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, and Naveen Andrews, the smash hit original has widely been regarded as one of the greatest television shows of all time, running for six spellbinding seasons.
Party of Five alum Matthew Fox famously headlined the sci-fi staple, portraying the brilliant-yet-haunted surgeon Jack Shephard, who swiftly emerges as the de facto leader of his fellow survivors and experiences an epic spiritual transformation throughout the course of the acclaimed series. However, it's hard to imagine anyone other than Fox as the capable Jack.

Star Trek was revolutionary for television when it first aired in 1966. It brought serious science fiction into the homes of millions with effects that—at the time—were remarkable for television. Of course, the budget and the available technology still presented limitations for what could be shown. Even today, there are limits to what Star Trek can show on screen.
Audio is a medium where these limits are simply not an issue. Over the past several years, we have seen a growing resurgence of audio dramas, after the radio drama format had all but died out in the mid-20th Century, after the advent of television. Although fans have made amateur Star Trek audio dramas earlier, the upcoming Star Trek: Khan is the first official audio addition to the series.

Now that it’s been announced that Naveen Andrews will voice Khan Noonien Singh in the long-gestating Star Trek: Khan audio series, it’s time to delve a bit deeper into the news and the press release distributed to the media. There are numerous bits to explore.
First, we like the casting of Andrews. He’s a solid, experienced, and Emmy-nominated actor, best known for Lost, and has a distinctive voice. Though he was born in London, England, his parents are from India. Khan is Indian.
CBS Studios also revealed that Wrenn Schmidt will voice Marla McGivers, another character very familiar to fans of “Space Seed,” the episode upon which Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was built. Schmidt recently played Margo Madison on For All Mankind and co-starred on the series Person of Interest, which Kelvin Timeline filmmaker J.J. Abrams-produced. From the moment CBS Studios first announced its Star Trek: Khan series, anticipation has been building around who exactly might be tapped to bring one of the greatest Star Trek villains to life next within the franchise. There has been a lot of anticipation and speculation about who might take on the role first originated by Ricardo Montalbán.
Many fans wondered if CBS Studios might perhaps bring back Benedict Cumberbatch to voice the character following his portrayal of Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness. Cumberbatch delivered a chilling and brilliant performance in the role of the film’s key foil so it would have seemed natural for CBS Studios might look to bring him back into the fold via Star Trek: Khan. Many would have loved to see Cumberbatch return to the franchise, but doing so ultimately wasn’t in the cards, and understandably so as the goal is to...

Almost 15 years since it ended, debates still rage about Lost’s final season, and in particular, its finale. For a sizable portion of the fanbase, “The End” felt nothing less than a waste of time that refused to answer the mysteries they’d spent six years investing in, and seemingly proved the writers made up as they went along. Others felt “The End” was a beautiful cap on an all-time great series, prioritizing the character arcs over the mysteries and bringing things to an emotionally satisfying close. Wherever you land, there’s one thing seemingly everyone can agree upon: it’s not Lost’s worst overall episode.
That dishonor goes to “Stranger in a Strange Land,” the ninth episode of Lost’s third season. Even by the standards of a season that saw dwindling ratings and slow plot progression (at least up until the incredible finale), this installment only incrementally...

After an incredible third installment, the hit sci-fi horror series From was renewed for a 10-episode fourth season in November 2024, and fans have been buzzing with excitement ever since. Everyone wants to know what new horrors await the residents of the nightmarish town, but unfortunately, we won't be seeing this beloved show return to our screens until sometime next year.
From season 4 was confirmed for a 2026 release when the renewal was announced. Production on the fourth season is slated to begin this year in Nova Scotia, where the previous three seasons were shot, but a filming start date has not been revealed. Despite its legendarily divisive ending, ABC's Losthas still gone down as one of the greatest TV series of all time, setting the standard for "mystery box" shows ever since. Across its six seasons, it boasts some of the most acclaimed and memorable moments in TV history, from its groundbreaking pilot to its infamous flash-forward twist at the end of Season 3. Fans of the series no doubt have different picks for the best season, whether it's Season 1's setup of the island's many mysteries, or Season 3, which opened up the world of the show in all kinds of fantastic ways.
While the show's storyline got weirder and harder to follow in later seasons, Season 4 just might be the series at its very best, an ideal fusion of its island intrigue, high-concept sci-fi, and character development. It features some of the series' biggest payoffs, both from a plot standpoint as well as an emotional one,...

In 2018, 26-year-old American evangelical missionary John Allen Chau went on the most dangerous mission of his life. He secretly journeyed to North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal in an attempt to convert its small population to Christianity, despite their strident insistence on staying disconnected from the rest of the world. As he tried to make contact with the people of the island, he was killed by arrows. His body was never recovered.
Now, Justin Lin’s Last Days seeks out to provide a coherent characterization of the young evangelical. Chau (Sky Yang) is presented in this misaligned attempt at character-based drama as an over-eager obsessive who never knew how to exercise caution or stop proclaiming his passion for Jesus to the world. A passionate evangelical from a comfortable California suburb, he doesn’t appear to have ever had or wanted any other profession than carrying the gospel to...

Spoiler Alert: The following review contains spoilers.
You’ve seen it so often, you might roll your eyes, but in “Last Days,” it really happens: American missionary John Allen Chau could have died as he approached North Sentinel Island, had the Bible in his breast pocket not absorbed the blow of a hostile Sentinelese arrow. What was Chau doing halfway around the globe, trying to convert a tribe that had nearly zero contact with the outside world? That’s the mystery director Justin Lin attempts to solve with “Last Days,” prompting an unexpected return to Sundance more than two decades after “Better Luck Tomorrow” launched his career there.
In the interim, Lin has directed no fewer than five “Fast & Furious” movies, which makes this independent production a conspicuous downshift from exorbitantly budgeted studio fare. Chau’s story has been told multiple times, from the Outside magazine article that served...

Director Justin Lin was last at the Sundance Film Festival in 2002 with his breakout indie teen crime drama Better Luck Tomorrow. Twenty-three years later, he is back with yet another indie project, Last Days, and clearly hoping to rekindle the fire that got him attention in the first place. Since 2006’s Tokyo Drift, Lin has been the go-to guy for the Fast & Furious franchise with five of them, most recently Fast 9 in 2019, as well as the most recent big-screen film in another hugely popular franchise, 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond.

Justin Lin's latest movie, Last Days, makes its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival today in Park City, Utah, but if it hadn't been for Keanu Reeves, the Fast & Furious director might not be screening his film at all. Lin tackles the subject of John Allen Chau in the biographical drama, chronicling the events that led up to the young missionary attempting to make contact with a remote tribe living on an island in the Indian Ocean.
Speaking with The Wrap during the Sundance festivities, Lin shared with the outlet that there was a moment he wasn't sure Last Days was ever going to get made after financing for the project fell apart. That's often the case with independent productions, but in this situation, it was Keanu Reeves who came to the rescue not because he was looking for any sort of producing credit, but simply because he wanted to help.

When director Justin Lin’s new indie feature “Last Days,” about 25-year-old missionary John Chau who was killed when he made contact with an isolated tribe, ran into financial woes, the filmmaker (also known for blockbusters in franchises like “Fast and Furious” and “Star Trek”) fortuitously got a call from Keanu Reeves.

Lost became an instant hit when the series debuted on ABC in 2004. Over two decades later, one of the show's writers, Drew Goddard, addressed the possibility of revisiting the franchise.
Speaking to Variety, Goddard said that while there have been no official discussions about a revival, he will never rule out the possibility. "I loved working on that show so much, and I loved what we did," he explained. "I always feel strongly that I don't want to just do karaoke of the show I used to do. I'd only be interested if we felt like we could do something special and new within the construct of the show. And then some of it just comes down to time and appetite. So there's no plan for it today. But never say never."

For all the blood, sweat, and manpower that ABC poured into finding a successor to "Lost" (a show that shaped the course of television in the early 21st century), I'd bet dollars to donuts the network never wagered it would take the shape of "Once Upon a Time."
Conceived by "Lost" alumni and "Tron: Legacy" writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, "Once Upon a Time" casts "House, M.D." veteran Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, a seemingly unremarkable bail bond agent who, just like any hero's journey protagonist worth their salt, discovers there's far more to her world (and destiny) than she ever realized. The show itself combines jigsaw puzzle-style storytelling with well-known fairy tale characters -- especially the Disneyfied versions, which was possible thanks to ABC being owned by the Mouse House -- to create a dense lore and elaborate mythos that rivals anything J.J. Abrams or Damon Lindelof could ever hope to dream of.

Before she was the toast of Hollywood, Ella Purnell had a starring role in Zack Snyder's 2021, Army of the Dead, and it's not the only time she's worked with the director. Army of the Dead is one of the Zack Snyder projects that feels a little bit lost to time. That's probably because it was released on Netflix in May 2021, smack-dab in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, not exactly when audiences were searching for a movie about a viral outbreak that destroys society and turns the afflicted into shambling, quarantined monsters.
It's a serviceable zombie action flick but feels a little half-baked in a few too many ways. Perhaps that's why audiences haven't attached themselves to it the same way Snyder fanboys have to movies like Justice League, Watchmen, and 300. Whatever issues the movie has, the cast isn't one of them. Ella Purnell, in particular, is a standout,...
