One original star confirms they will not be returning for Dexter: Resurrection. The latest sequel in the Dexter franchise, Dexter: Resurrection's story follows Michael C. Hall as his character returns from the dead to follow his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), to New York City.
So far, Dexter: Resurrection has been a success. ScreenRant's Greg MacArthur said in his Dexter: Resurrection review that the series delivers "exactly what the franchise needed and what fans have been dying to see." The series feels like a return to form with Dexter on the hunt in a metropolitan area, while also expanding on his character and the lore.
After the original Dexter had a poorly received series finale, and the finale to the single-season sequel Dexter: New Blood proved divisive, Resurrection has the chance to tell new, engaging stories. Some of that is delivering fan-service moments, but one actor won't make an appearance.

Dexter: Resurrection on Paramount+ is making waves and rightly so. But the show’s narrative so far spotlights one glaring omission from Dexter: New Blood: Harrison’s half-siblings, Cody and Astor. The two characters, who were a part of the original series’ main cast, remain unmentioned, even in the second reboot of the franchise.
While we have only gotten to Dexter: Resurrection Episode 3 so far, the blatant removal of these characters from the show, or rather, Harrison and Dexter Morgan’s memory, is not sitting right with longtime fans of the franchise. While the two were not mentioned in New Blood (via Screen Rant), fans held high hopes for their appearance in the most recent reboot. Let’s dive into why this omission stings viewers who have been with the franchise since its early days.

Dexter: Resurrection brings back Michael C. Hall and other stars from the original series, but there wasn't room for everyone to return. That's left at least one Dexter alum feeling bummed about getting left out.
In the classic Dexter, Julie Benz co-starred as Rita, Dexter Morgan's girlfriend (and later wife). After starring in the first four seasons, Benz had her character shockingly killed off, though she later popped back up for a flashback sequence. Dexter is also known to have visions of other deceased characters, so it was certainly possible for Rita to make an appearance somehow in Resurrection. However, per Bingetown TV, Benz said she is not going to appear in the new show.

As soon as they rolled the credits for Dexter: Resurrection Episode 2, audiences were left hungry for more. Since the new reboot follows a weekly release schedule, we will unfortunately have to wait another week before we can feed our curiosities. In the meantime, though, we can offer you a revisit to some of the most shocking moments from Showtime’s original Dexter series.
The new show released two episodes together for the premiere and has left no stone unturned in giving us a familiar sense of thrill, dread, and intrigue, even highlighting Harry as Dexter’s weakness. But we are yet to reach a more sinister and dark narrative in the reboot. However, these 4 events from the Og show still stand as some of the most shocking and chilling moments the franchise has given us.

In the brimming world of crime dramas, it’s rare to find a show that eerily mirrors another cult-classic DNA without being an exact replica. But The Waterfront, Netflix’s latest addition to the genre, seems to be doing just that- quietly reflecting the haunting legacy of Showtime’s 71% rated Dexter.
In just a few days of its release, fans have already started to draw parallels when it comes to the back stories of both the show’s leads. And honestly? The similarity is striking- yet surprisingly under-discussed. Could Dexter’s chilling origin story now have a compelling contender? Or has The Waterfront tried to pay a subtle homage? Or is it all just a big coincidence? Let’s dive into what makes the new show feel so similar to one of our favorites.

As the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot approaches, one of the show's original villains reveals whether they would return to the series. Originally running from 1997-2003, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a midseason replacement on the relatively new network, The WB. The series would prove to be a cult hit and lead to a spinoff series, Angel, that ran for five seasons. The upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot on Hulu will feature Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her role alongside a new Slayer played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
In an interview with Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Charisma Carpenter on her podcast, The Bitch Is Back, Darla actor Julie Benz reveals she would return to the series. Originally cast as Vampire Girl #1, and the first vampire seen in the show, Benz would go on to play the character for seven years between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Buffy the Vampire Slayeractress Charisma Carpenter has announced that she will be launching a new podcast in which she watches Buffy and Angel. Carpenter portrayed Buffy fan-favorite character Cordelia Chase throughout the show's first three seasons before continuing the role on Angel, appearing in all five seasons of the spinoff series. Following Angel's conclusion in 2004, Carpenter has been a regular at fan conventions, frequently appearing with other Buffy and Angel talent. In 2023, the actress lent her vocal talents as Cordelia for the audiobook, Slayers: A Buffyverse Story.
On June 24, Carpenter posted a TikTok video sharing that she'll be releasing a Buffy and Angel watch podcast on her Patreon page called The B*tch is Back in which she will watch all episodes of both series. There are some lines in Dexter’s history that cut so deeply, they expose the character’s reality more brutally than any blade. In Dexter, one such line from Isaak Sirko, the Ukrainian mob boss, hit Dexter Morgan harder than Harry’s code ever did. Known for his lethal efficiency, Isaak shocked viewers not with violence, but with a raw, philosophical take on love.
Delivered during a rare moment of vulnerability, the quote penetrated Dexter’s psyche deeper than any of Harry’s lessons. While the “code” taught Dexter how to live with his urges and kill without getting caught, Isaak’s insight confronted something far more terrifying- how to live.

Hellboy's Ron Perlman is heading back to a familiar genre in the horror comedy Horrified. He joins an impressive cast that also includes Dexter alum Julie Benz and Mean Girls star Busy Philipps.
Deadline reports that Benz plays a horror genre icon who decides to hit the convention circuit in order to make some quick money. However, the one-time scream queen will unexpectedly find herself and her fans terrorized by a serial killer wearing the same grotesque pig mask from her movies.
Horrified will be the feature directorial debut for filmmaker Michael Zara, who has also penned the screenplay. Zara got his start as a staff writer and story editor for three seasons on the TNT drama series Major Crimes. He previously delved into the horror genre for the Syfy original movie Letters to Satan Claus, about a journalist (played by Wynonna Earp: Vengeance actor Karen Knox) whose return...

With memorable roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Dexter,” and Saw V, Julie Benz has earned the tile of scream queen — and now she’s playing one in Horrified.
Deadline reports that Benz will star alongside Busy Philipps (“Freaks and Geeks”), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Jim Rash (“Community”) in the meta horror-comedy.

Eric Kripke’s Supernatural stands tall as one of the most beloved fantasy shows, consistently infectiously popular among viewers and loved through and through. Despite the show ending 5 years ago, the 327-episode dark fantasy show would feel fresh like a daisy, taking its viewers back to 2005.
Throughout the 15 seasons of the show, numerous guest stars have left their mark on the series and its fans. When Dexter Season 4 aired its finale in 2009, it was lauded for being one of the show’s most thrilling and devastating episodes. The Trinity Killer arc- arguably the series’ most prominent antagonist arc- concluded with a heartbreaking twist that left viewers reeling.
But what many viewers, including hardcore fans, overlooked at the time was a throwaway line in the finale that accidentally gave us a spoiler for the show’s eventual ending. It was subtle, hypothetical, and drenched in the intensity of Dexter’s kill room monologue. But looking back now, I can say that moment was definitely a spoiler hidden in plain sight. It might have even been unintentional, but it still stands as one of the most brilliantly ironic pieces of foreshadowing in television history.

This Buffy the Vampire Slayer Star Might Not Return for the Sequel Series Due to Major Career Change
Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered almost three decades ago, and its impact on television is undeniable. The series was a huge staple for other fantasy shows, and it was also hailed for its feminist impact.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer also launched the careers of many of its stars, who are now forever tied to the roles in the fantasy hit series. After many years of conversations, Buffy will receive a sequel series, with Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her role as the titular character. So far, it's unclear who else will make an appearance, but it's likely Eliza Dushku won't be among the returning cast, as she celebrated a major career change on Instagram over the weekend.

Tatyana Ali says a co-star bullied her during the 1998 production of the teen dark-comedy Jawbreaker, and that Rose McGowan stepped in and stopped the behaviour on set. Ali’s account surfaced this week in an Instagram post shared ahead of the film’s 25-year celebrations and was quickly amplified by entertainment press and social-media feeds, reigniting debate about how young actors were treated on 1990s shoots.
In the caption Ali recalled being the only cast member still in high school and wrote that “one actress in particular” targeted her until McGowan told the offender to “stfu in front of everybody.” McGowan answered in the comment thread, “I’d do it again,” a response fans circulated widely on X and TikTok. Neither woman named the alleged bully, and Ali’s representatives declined further comment when contacted by The Independent.

Tatyana Ali’s memories from working on the 1999 comedy, Jawbreaker are not all positive.
Ali shared on Instagram Saturday that she was bullied on the set of the film and explained how her co-star, Rose McGowan, had her back.
“These are from Jawbreaker (1999). I was the only one actually in high school when we shot this, and I dealt with a little bullying on set from one actress in particular,” the actress captioned a carousel of three photos.
She continued, “But one day, she tried it in front of everybody… and @rosemcgowan told her to stfu in front of everybody! I will always love her for that!”
In the replies, McGowan commented, “I’d do it again,” followed by red heart emojis, and that she is the forever combination of “dignity, brains and beauty.”

It was December of 2008, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe was but a twinkle in Disney's eye. Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" had become a huge box office success earlier that year, and its post-credits stinger -- wherein Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) enticed Tony Stark to join the Avengers -- whetted the appetites of superhero fans everywhere. Disney would go on to purchase Marvel in 2009 and put that Avengers hint into action, ushering in a decade-long period of superhero ultra-dominance in theaters.
Before that happened, though, many superhero movies were still excitingly hit-and-miss, free of the McU's eventual homogeneity. The "X-Men" movies were up-and-down in quality, for instance, and Marvel characters like Daredevil and Elektra were only fitfully accepted by fans. Importantly, not all of these films had nine-figure budgets. Many studios, while recognizing that superheroes were moneymakers, weren't always willing to invest piles of cash in them. That wouldn't...

According to Tatyana Ali, Rose McGowan did not put up with any attitude on the set of “Jawbreaker.”
Ali took to Instagram on Saturday to reminisce about her time starring in the 1999 high school murder dramedy. She also shared a memory of costar McGowan telling off “one actress in particular” who was “bullying” her during filming.
“These are from ‘Jawbreaker’ (1999),” Ali wrote, sharing stills from the film. “I was the only one actually in high school when we shot this, and I dealt with a little bullying on set from one actress in particular. But one day, she tried it in front of everybody… and [Rose McGowan] told her to [shut the fuck up] in front of everybody! I will always love her for that!”
McGowan replied to the post that she’d “do it again,” adding that Ali has that “[forever] combo” of “dignity, brains and beauty.”

Although Courtney Shayne might be the ultimate onscreen mean girl, Rose McGowan was a fierce girl’s girl behind the scenes.
More than 25 years after playing Brenda in Jawbreaker (1999), Tatyana Ali called McGowan “a real one” and reminisced about the actress standing up for her against an on-set bully while making the Darren Stein-helmed cult classic teen film.

We knew the day would eventually come, but man, do we wish we had more time. All eight seasons of Dexter will reportedly be leaving Netflix this June. With licensed content, streaming platforms often rotate titles as deals expire, and unfortunately, that means beloved series can disappear from your watchlist overnight.
Netflix's streaming rights for the popular crime drama are nearing their end, and unless a new deal is struck, Dexter will be gone from the streaming platform this summer. The current departure date is set for Thursday, June 19, 2025, which means the last day to stream all eight seasons will be Wednesday, June 18.
So, if you’ve been meaning to revisit the chilling world of Dexter Morgan or finally watch the series, now’s the perfect time to binge before it's removed. No one likes being caught off guard when their favorite show suddenly disappears. Don't let this happen to you with Dexter.

Even nepo-babies have to audition, folks. And it seems as though they are, in droves, for the upcoming Buffy The Vampire Slayer sequel series. According to Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan — a.k.a. Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg, respectively — there have been more than one original cast member from the iconic teen series whose now-teen kids have auditioned for the latest iteration. Now: who wants to play a little game of "speculate and find out," eh?
The news came about during an interview between the two actresses and Us Weekly. During their sit-down with the publication, Hannigan let out a teasing bit of information, saying, "I know somebody who auditioned for something on the show." To which Gellar replied, "I know somebody who was on the show whose child auditioned for the show. I know a few people from the show whose children came in." This, of course,...

Okay, so the broomsticks, margarita glasses, and sisterly screaming from Practical Magic are happening again. Yep, Practical Magic 2 is officially on its way, and we’re all set to rewind the golden age of VHS. Seriously, it’s been over 25 years since Sally and Gillian Owens first cast their chaotic charm on us. Now they’re back, still witchy, fabulous, and hopefully still making midnight drinks while breaking generational curses.
With Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman returning, we’re about to dive into the magic mix of potions, drama, and probably dancing in the moonlight. But while we wait for this magic to happen on September 18, 2026, let’s rewind the ‘90s mood of cult classics. Yep, we’re talking about those slightly weird, wildly lovable movies that stuck us like glitter on a velvet dress.

Centered on the vigilante serial killer, Dexter is a series that does not limit itself when it comes to bringing back memorable characters. However, not every character’s return fits seamlessly into the story, as is the case with Julie Benz’s Rita Morgan.
Benz portrayed the role of Rita Morgan, Dexter’s girlfriend and later wife and the mother of his son Harrison, who met a tragic end in Season 4. The actress has since reflected on her potential return to the series, explaining why it might not be the right choice.

Since the very first season of Dexter, Julie Benz played the role of Rita Morgan, who met Dex through his sister Debra. And though he initially appeared emotionally distant, Rita was arguably one of the first people to help him open up and genuinely care for someone.

Dexter goes down in history as one of the best shows with a terrible series finale. But that’s Ok, because the series' reputation was partially saved by the continuation series Dexter: New Blood, along with the prequel Dexter: Original Sin. Now, in April 2025, there will be Dexter: Resurrection, a direct continuation of Dexter: New Blood that brings the fan-favorite vigilante killer back to life – literally.
The series has fans giddy about what’s to come for Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). Tons of big-name actors have been named among the cast, including Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, and Eric Stonestreet. Along with Hall, James Remar will reprise his role as the late Harry Morgan, who serves as Dexter’s ghost guide, as well as David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista and Jack Alcott, who appeared as the grown son Harrison in New Blood. The Trinity Killer's surprise return in Dexter: Resurrection gets a new explanation from John Lithgow. After the success of creator Clyde Phillips' original Dextershow, Michael C. Hall returned as the titular serial killer in Dexter: New Blood in 2021, 8 years after the divisive season 8 finale. Now, Hall is reprising his role as the character once more in the Dexter: Resurrection sequel show, which will feature the return of some familiar cast members, including David Zayas as Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer.
In a recent interview with Variety, Lithgow confirms that viewers shouldn't expect to see the Trinity Killer beyond a brief cameo in Dexter: Resurrection. The actor reveals that he returned for only one day of filming, with his character appearing as a "phantom" to Dexter as he awakens in the hospital. Check out Lithgow's...

Following Dextersequel series, currently in development, showrunners are preparing another spin-off: a prequel about the Trinity Killer, reminding viewers of the original show's most impactful moment: Rita Morgan's death. Dexter's original series finale was famously controversial. However, several seasons before the serial killer drama's conclusion, another contentious ending rocked its audience.
The events of the Dexter Season 4 finale aggravated more than a few viewers — for understandable reasons. Dexter's kind-hearted wife, Rita Morgan (Julie Benz), was murdered by the most notorious villain ever to appear in the Showtime series. Plenty of critics and viewers praised the episode, entitled "The Getaway." But many fans were upset about the message sent by Rita's death. And, to make matters worse, the reason why the series killed Rita off reinforced a harmful TV trope. Years later, Rita is barely even mentioned in the new Dexter spin-offs, while the Trinity Killer is getting his own prequel spin-off.

For years, fans have speculated about connections between their favorite TV shows, leading to some truly creative fan theories. One of the more surprising theories to gain traction suggests that Buffy the Vampire Slayerand Dexter take place in the same world. At first glance, this might seem unlikely – after all, one is a supernatural drama about a teenage vampire slayer, while the other follows a forensic expert moonlighting as a serial killer. However, one minor but intriguing detail has led fans to believe the two series might be more connected than they appear.
The theory hinges on a shared reference to Doublemeat Palace, a fictional fast-food chain that appears in both shows. Since Doublemeat Palace doesn’t exist outside these two series, some fans believe this was an intentional Easter egg linking their universes. However, while the idea of a crossover is fun to consider, there’s one big problem...

Michael C. Hall is returning as Dexter Morgan once again in the upcoming sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection. Several other franchise stars will appear in the series, but Julia Stiles isn't counting on getting the call to return as Lumen.
In the fifth season of the original Dexter, Stiles played Lumen Pierce, a survivor of a serial killer murdered by Dexter. She becomes an ally to Dexter, convincing him to help her exact revenge against a group of men who'd sexually assaulted her. Though she served as a love interest for Dexter, Lumen wound up leaving at the end of the season, no longer feeling the need to kill after all of her own abusers were dead. She hasn't been seen in the franchise since, and Stiles doesn't expect that to change with Dexter: Resurrection.

Years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of Sarah Michelle Gellar's new roles just made a shared universe theory a lot harder to explain. There are plenty of shared cinematic universes in the modern day. From Quentin Tarantino's shared universe to more explicit crossovers like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's incredibly common for new films and shows to be connected to a larger franchise. Back in 2003, when Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, however, it wasn't nearly as commonplace. That's why one shared universe theory for the show was so surprising, and why it's a big deal that it's harder to justify now.

Before The Vampire Diaries and True Blood brought vampires back into fashion on television, Buffy the Vampire Slayer popularized the undead for TV in the '90s. Buffy ran from 1997 to 2003, choosing to end while it was still at its peak instead of fizzling out, which is very respectable. New comics, books, and exclusive audiobook narratives are still being made about the fans' favorite Scoobies to this day, highlighting the show's lasting legacy and influence in keeping vampires cool. There's even an official beauty line which was created in collaboration with Juliet Landau (Drusilla) and Julie Benz (Darla).

Dexter had the potential to be an all-time great but fumbled in its latter half, which never should have been made in the first place. Dexter stars Michael C. Hall as the titular protagonist who, across eight seasons and 96 episodes, doubles as a forensic specialist and blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department and a methodical vigilante serial killer. Dexter breaks the convention of traditional serial killers because he is guided by a strict rulebook that prevents him from killing innocent people — most of the time – based on his adoptive father Harry Morgan's code.
Based on the character created by author Jeff Lindsay, Showtime's Dexter follows Miami Metro Police Department's most skilled blood spatter analyst, Dexter Morgan, as he attempts to satisfy his Dark Passenger's need to kill by hunting down criminals who have escaped justice.

Some TV shows have had a lasting legacy, creating characters or worlds so popular that they simply must be explored. A reboot, a spinoff, or a prequel could allow writers to show how a character came to be, explain what happened after the final scene, or explore more of the universe that had been created in the original show. Certain stars are happy to return for more adventures, some smaller parts get expanded, and abandoned storylines can be revisited.
Over a few seasons, quite a lot is bound to happen. Some viewers might cling to a mystery that had been introduced but never explained, while some subjects might get addressed that no one ever thought would see the light of day. Then, there are continuity errors that get a clean slate when given the chance to explain. It's interesting to see how different shows have tackled some burning questions that...

In the glitz and glamour of television, while some shows last for many seasons, others fizzle out quickly. For No Ordinary Family as well, it premiered in 2010 with very high expectations blending family drama with superhero storytelling. But since it could not live up to its promises, the show was canceled after just one season, leaving fans disappointed.

The show followed the lives of the Powell family, whose ordinary lives took a drastic turn after they mysteriously survived a plane crash that granted them superpowers. While this premise was not something completely out of the box, the humorous elements surely made it a lot more interesting. Based on this it also had a very strong start with viewers really appreciating the show and its engaging storyline.
However, it failed to maintain this momentum and was canceled after the first season itself.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer left one major plot hole unsolved for the tortured anti-hero Spike (James Marsters) it was unclear who his vampire sire was, and whether it was Angel (David Boreanz) or Drusilla (Juliet Landau). The conflicting information made the Angel reveal fall flat, and seemed to be a simple attempt at patching up a plot hole. In the show, Angel is born as Liam in 18th-century Ireland, and is revealed to have been turned by his former lover Darla (Julie Benz). He took on the name Angelus, and became the most ruthless vampire in European history.
As viewers learn, he is later cursed with a human soul as karma, and he has to live with all the atrocities he has committed. When Angel loses his humanity in Buffy, his evil knows no bounds. After Spike showcasing his own villainy all season, it seems only natural that Angel would...
