So far, Dexter: Resurrection has been a success. ScreenRant's Greg MacArthur said in his Dexter: Resurrection review that the series delivers "exactly what the franchise needed and what fans have been dying to see." The series feels like a return to form with Dexter on the hunt in a metropolitan area, while also expanding on his character and the lore.

After the original Dexter had a poorly received series finale, and the finale to the single-season sequel Dexter: New Blood proved divisive, Resurrection has the chance to tell new, engaging stories. Some of that is delivering fan-service moments, but one actor won't make an appearance.

Ali’s account surfaced this week in an Instagram post shared ahead of the film’s 25-year celebrations and was quickly amplified by entertainment press and social-media feeds, reigniting debate about how young actors were treated on 1990s shoots.

In the caption Ali recalled being the only cast member still in high school and wrote that “one actress in particular” targeted her until McGowan told the offender to “stfu in front of everybody.” McGowan answered in the comment thread, “I’d do it again,” a response fans circulated widely on X and TikTok. Ali took to Instagram on Saturday to reminisce about her time starring in the 1999 high school murder dramedy. She also shared a memory of costar McGowan telling off “one actress in particular” who was “bullying” her during filming.

Dexter's original series finale was famously controversial. However, several seasons before the serial killer drama's conclusion, another contentious ending rocked its audience.

The events of the Dexter Season 4 finale aggravated more than a few viewers — for understandable reasons. Dexter's kind-hearted wife, Rita Morgan (Julie Benz), was murdered by the most notorious villain ever to appear in the Showtime series. Plenty of critics and viewers praised the episode, entitled "The Getaway." But many fans were upset about the message sent by Rita's death. And, to make matters worse, the reason why the series killed Rita off reinforced a harmful TV trope. Years later, Rita is barely even mentioned in the new Dexter spin-offs, while the Trinity Killer is getting his own prequel spin-off.

Michael C. Hall is returning as Dexter Morgan once again in the upcoming sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection. Several other franchise stars will appear in the series, but Julia Stiles isn't counting on getting the call to return as Lumen.

In the fifth season of the original Dexter, Stiles played Lumen Pierce, a survivor of a serial killer murdered by Dexter. She becomes an ally to Dexter, convincing him to help her exact revenge against a group of men who'd sexually assaulted her. Though she served as a love interest for Dexter, Lumen wound up leaving at the end of the season, no longer feeling the need to kill after all of her own abusers were dead. Exclusive: The Dexter Trinity Killer prequel series, following the makings of the notorious serial killer played by John Lithgow in the mothership series, remains “in development” at Paramount+ with Showtime and has come a long way since it was originally announced in early 2023 as being in the exploration stages, sources close to production tell Deadline.

Original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and fellow Dexter veteran Scott Reynolds serve as co-creators and executive producers of the Trinity Killer spinoff prequel, we hear. They held a development room for the project earlier this spring. As scripts were being written, there were erroneous media reports that the project was not moving forward which was never the case, sources said.
