Bob Yerkes, the acrobatic stunt performer who slid down a clock tower cable for Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and hung around the Statue of Liberty under repair for Fred Ward in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, has died. He was 92.
Yerkes died Tuesday of natural causes in Northridge, Darlene Ava Williams, a stunt performer and one of his many mentees, announced.
The amiable Yerkes, who started out in the circus and was a skilled trapeze aerialist and tightrope walker, also plummeted from a helicopter through a roof in Breakout (1975), starring Charles Bronson.
“I was getting ready for the stunt and the guy said, ‘Break a Leg!,” and I broke them both,” he recalled in a 2017 interview. He said he also broke legs while working on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Her Alibi (1989), but, in a career that spanned eight decades, that was the extent of his serious injuries.

Ryan Murphy's "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story" debuted on Netflix on September 19, 2024. The series recounts the details of the Menéndez brothers' murder of their parents, José and Kitty, in 1989. Those alive and watching the news at the time recall what a blazingly salacious affair their trial was. Beginning in 1993, CourtTV broadcasted extended portions of the time the brothers spent in court (they were tried separately), and the details began to sound like a daytime soap opera. The brothers said that José Menéndez was sexually abusing Erik, and that he threatened to kill them both if they told the cops. Kitty never stood up to him, so the brothers felt no other recourse but to kill them with a shotgun in preemptive self-defense. After the murders, but prior to the arrest, the brother had rather suspiciously begun living richly on their sizable inheritance.

Thanks to his hit sitcom Diff’rent Strokes, Gary Coleman was the biggest child star in the world. Unfortunately, that was a title Coleman held for many more years than he’d intended.
Coleman was 10 when he was cast as Arnold Jackson, one of two orphans taken in by the wealthy Mr. Drummond. Arnold’s older brother Willis, played by Todd Bridges, grew into a young man over the course of the show’s run from 1978 to 1986. But while Willis was dating Janet Jackson, getting into trouble and planning a move out of the Drummonds’ deluxe condo, Arnold seemed perpetually stuck in the fourth grade.
That was largely due to Coleman’s physical appearance. He suffered from a kidney condition and the medication used to treat his ailment stalled his growth, leaving him 4-foot-8 even as he approached 18 years old. He still looked like a cute, chubby-faced kid but he didn’t feel like one.

Jeff Harris and Bernie Kukoff's sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" debuted in 1978 and ran 189 episodes over a whopping eight seasons. The series starred Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges as Arnold and Willis Jackson, two impoverished kids from Harlem whose mother had recently died. They were adopted by the wealthy Mr. Drummond (Conrad Bain), a Park Avenue millionaire. The series revolved around the relationship Arnold and Willis developed with their adopted father, new sister Kimberly (Dana Plato), and one of three kindly housekeepers. In the 1984 season, Mr. Drummond married a woman named Maggie, and she was played by Dixie Carter for two years before being replaced by Mary Ann Mobley.

Hollywood awoke today to the sad news that Eight Is Enough star Adam Rich was gone too soon at age 54.
Mourners posted about the hairstyle that launched a thousand imitators and how he was a TV presence in their childhood. But those who knew him best also focused on his kindness and caring in his adult years, even as he struggled to overcome various issues in his life.
Particularly notable was the outpouring from fellow child stars of his vintage, who perhaps knew all too well about what massive early attention can do to the rest of your life.
A few of the early reactions:

ABC is celebrating Norman Lear’s 100th birthday with a television special on Sept. 22.
Variety was on hand for exclusive interviews with Lear and his starry guests as they made their way into the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel earlier this month for the filming of the show, “Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music and Laughter.”
Lear, who turned 100 on July 27, has famously credited laughing as the key to living a long life. He also told me that staying in the present is equally as important. “We don’t pay enough attention to the words ‘over’ and ‘next,'” he said. “When something is over, it’s over and we’re all onto the next. If there was a hammock in the middle, that would be the best description I could offer for living in the moment.”
Below, Lear’s friends and the stars of his most famous sitcoms recall meeting the icon for the first time.

What better way to settle a disagreement from a reality show competition than to go on another show? At least that’s the way Celebrity Beef host Joel McHale sees it as he welcomes former Celebrity Big Brother castmates Todd Bridges and Cynthia Bailey to his E! series’ kitchen in the August 16 episode. The Diff’rent Strokes star and Real Housewives alum, who got into it during Season 3 earlier this year, are tasked on Celebrity Beef with making a chicken dish. McHale will decide the winner based on taste and presentation. The victor takes home 10,000 for their chosen charity and a trophy they may or may not want to display. Ahead of the episode, Bridges sat down with TV Insider for some dinner conversation. Did Celebrity Beef bring back all those memories of Celebrity Big Brother? Cynthia Bailey and Todd Bridges are bringing their Celebrity Big Brother drama to Celebrity Beef. The two competed on the CBS show's third season earlier this year but were far from friendly while living in the sequestered house. In fact, they even traded verbal blows and obscenities during one particularly heated argument. Thankfully, all that's in the past—or it was. As Cynthia exclusively told E! News ahead of the Aug. 16 episode of Celebrity Beef, she and Todd became "really good friends" outside of the Big Brother house, but she's still eager to break down what exactly happened between them. Added the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, "It's just really...

Can that nostalgic feeling be enough to garner an Emmy nomination? If the 2022 list of nominees is any guide, the answer is yes.
In the live variety special category, the proof is in the pudding. Per usual, the Grammys, the Tonys and the Oscars — slap and all — are nominated. However, the final two slots are filled by ABC’s “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: The Facts of Life and Diff ’rent Strokes” and NBC’s “Pepsi Super Bowl Lvi Halftime Show.”
The Norman Lear and Jimmy Kimmel live special has been nominated each time it has aired previously — first for the recreation of “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” in 2019 and in 2020, with “Good Times” in the mix. With “The Facts of Life” and “Diff ’rent Strokes” this year, not only were old stories retold, more A-list stars — and talent from the original shows— joined in.

While the episodes chosen from All in the Family, The Jeffersons and Good Times for the first installments of ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience, which aired in 2019, were picked to reflect the timeliness of ’70s politics and social issues, it was a different topical phenomenon altogether that dictated the theme of the 2021 television special from executive producers Norman Lear and Jimmy Kimmel. “We had all just come off a two-year pandemic. Like a lot of creators, director James Cullen Bressack turned pandemic lemons into lemonade, as in the case of his upcoming movie “Sally Floss: Digital Detective,” which comes out sometime in Summer 2022.
Per the logline, “In response to the financial crisis set forth by Covid-19, a shy teenager starts an internet-based detective agency to save her family home. She solves mysteries through digital footprints, virtual interviews, a brilliant mind, and an inherited intuition she never knew she had.”
Appropriately, “Sally Floss” was directed during the height of the pandemic lockdown, and makes good use of the quarantine lifestyle and its related, restrictive Zoom-eye-view of the world, both in production and in-story. You can see how this plays out in the trailer, exclusive to TheWrap, above right now.
And honestly, with a title as charming as “Sally Floss: Digital Detective,” how can you say no?

What you talkin’ about, Celebrity Big Brother? Ahead of the reality show’s February 23 finale, it was Todd Bridges and Lamar Odom sent home in a double eviction. The two were initially put on the block by Head of Household (Hoh) Todrick Hall. Todd didn’t go down without a fight though. He beat Todrick and Miesha Tate head-to-head in the Celebrity Luge “Power of Veto” competition. Of course, the sitcom star took himself off the block. A split vote led to Todrick deciding it was game over for Lamar rather than Cynthia Bailey. Host Julie Chen Moonves then told the remaining houseguests that there would be a second person sent packing. Tate won the “Bb Flix Film Festival” Hoh and secured her place in the finale. The Mma fighter then put Cynthia and Todd on the block. Tate solidified her picks by also winning the “Frozen in Time” competition for “Power of Veto.

Monday night on “Celebrity Big Brother” was the first (and only) double eviction episode of Season 3. That meant two people left the house and had one-on-one conversations with Julie Chen Moonves throughout the evening. The proceedings started with the Final 5 competing for the Power of Veto. Head of Household Todrick Hall had just put Lamar Odom and Todd Bridges on the chopping block, so the pressure was on both of them (and potential replacement nominee Cynthia Bailey) to win the competition and save themselves. Then, after the first eviction, there was an Hoh comp, a second Veto challenge, and another live eviction. So emerged as the Final 3 by the end of the night?
