John Mulaney never really came across as the most truthful of comedians. After all, his closing bit in the breakthrough special New in Town was all about how he falsified medical symptoms in order to get prescription drugs, which plays a lot differently now. He also told a story about how he once told a classmate that he wasn’t at a party that got out of hand, when, in fact, he was, you know, like a liar.

But we all trusted Mulaney when it came to stories about his time at Saturday Night Live. Specifically, in his special Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, Mulaney recounted how his favorite instance of an SNL host introducing a musical guest was when “the great Sir Patrick Stewart” threw it to popular hip-hop group “Salt… N-pepa!”

Bandidos Season 2’s ending was centered around the titular group trying to retrieve a precious jewel called the Tear of Fire from the clutches of Regina. Why? Well, the story goes something like this. Lili, whose original name was Carlota, was Regina’s stepsister, and the former had killed Regina’s biological father and gone on the run. After discovering her whereabouts, Regina compelled Lili to use her friends to get the Tear of Fire as a form of reparation. Fearing for their lives, Lili, Miguel, Octavio, Ines, Lucas, and Citlali spent the entire show searching, failing, and then searching some more for this fabled treasure. When they eventually got to the cave that housed the costly piece of stone, Regina, Ariel, Pepa (the gangster who belonged to the Mayan tribe that was the rightful owner of the Tear of Fire), and the landowner whose wife had cheated on him...

Stories about treasure hunting are awesome. Way before I was introduced to the world of movies, I was reading Treasure Island, Sinbad the Sailor, and the purposefully anticlimactic Sonar Kella. Then there were the Tintin comics and the amazing 2011 film, The Adventures of Tintin, that absolutely enthralled me. Spain’s Academia de Cine has unveiled its list of nominations for the 39th Goya Awards, the country’s equivalent to the Oscar. Leading the field is Marcel Barrena’s biographical drama El 47, with 14 mentions. It’s followed by thriller La Infiltrada (Undercover) at 13.

Also in the mix is Segundo Premio (Saturn Return) with 11 nods. The movie about real-life rock band Los Planetas was Spain’s submission for the International Feature Oscar, though it did not make AMPAS’ shortlist cut which was revealed yesterday.

Meanwhile, Spanish maestro Pedro Almodóvar’s first English-language feature, The Room Next Door, scored 10 nominations including Best Director and a pair of Best Actress nods for Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. It did not surface in the Goyas’ Best Picture race, despite taking the top prize Golden Lion in Venice earlier this year, his first ever top A-list festival prize.

The Goyas will be handed out on February 8 in Granada.

Local hits The 47 and Undercover lead the nominations for Spain’s 2025 Goya Awards, with 14 and 13 nods respectively.

Serving as executive producers of the upcoming competition series are Chip and Joanna Gaines. She is a 46-year-old interior designer. Additionally, she is a television personality and author.

In 2013, Joanna and her husband, Chip started hosting a home renovation show on HGTV, Fixer Upper. The TV couple has three children together: Drake, Ella Rose, and Duke. With 14 million followers on Instagram alone, Joanna is no stranger to the media world.

Pepa Lubojacki’s “If Pigeons Turned to Gold” was named the most promising European project at Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival.

The Czech-Slovak co-production follows four family members, including Lubojacki’s own brother and cousins, unhoused for over a decade and struggling with addiction.

“I don’t use the word ‘homeless,’ because it has really negative connotations. Once you say ‘unhoused resident,’ it implies they are still a part of this society,” says the director.

“At times, I felt guilty I was better off than my brother. I wanted to rip off a part of me and just give it to him. But it’s not another depressing story, because I am fed up with them. There was always love in this film.”

A couple months ago, the Shudder streaming service announced that they would be releasing the survival thriller Quicksand in the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand on June 23rd… but those plans have now changed. Rio De Janeiro, March 21 (Ians) Portuguese manager Pepa has been named head coach of Cruzeiro until the end of Brazil’s 2023 domestic season.

The 42-year-old replaces Paulo Pezzolano, who parted ways with the Belo Horizonte outfit after a 2-1 loss at America Mineiro in the Mineiro championship on Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Pepa’s backroom staff will include assistant coaches Samuel Correia and Hugo Silva, fitness coach Pedro Oliveira and performance analyst Pedro Azevedo, according to a statement on Cruzeiro’s official website.

Pepa, a former Benfica forward who turned to coach in 2010, has been out of work since parting ways with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Tai in January.

Cruzeiro will begin their Brazilian Serie A season with a visit to Corinthians on April 15.

Mirabel is the only Madrigal in Encanto without powers, but she has a secret ability that is more significant to the family. Abuela Madrigal was blessed with a miracle after the death of her husband, and the magic created the town of Encanto. From then on, each member of the Madrigal family was given a powerful gift from the miracle, except for Mirabel, who was seemingly given no power at her candle ceremony.

Given the town reveres the Madrigals and appreciates all the help they provide with their gifts, it might seem improbable that the town may grow to fear the magical family.
