Amazon MGM Studios has found its partner for its ambitious international theatrical exhibition plans in Sony Pictures. The two studios have struck a multiyear distribution deal that will see Sony release films “After the Hunt,” “Mercy,” “Crime 101” and “Project Hail Mary” overseas.

The deal comes as Amazon’s international distribution deal with Warner Bros. Pictures ends. After the aforementioned slate of films has been released, Amazon MGM will release its titles overseas directly, but the deal gives the studio time to set its international plans.

Indeed, Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt” will start the partnership off with an Oct. 10 limited release before going wide on Oct. 17. The psychological drama was given a prime awards season date and stars Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny. Longtime Guadagnino collaborators Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are also returning as composers.

Amazon MGM Studios will open the film Feb. 13, the beginning of the long Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day weekend.

Directed by Bart Layton, Crime 101 is based on author Don Winslow’s novella of the same name. The story follows detective Lou Lubesnick as he attempts to solve a string of multimillion-dollar jewel heists by tracking the perpetrator who follows a strict set of rules known as “Crime 101.” As the fates of the various characters converge, the line between hunter and hunted blurs. Before Amazon MGM Studios presented his new movie Crime 101 at CinemaCon earlier this week, the actor revealed to E! News on the red carpet that he was “intimidated” to work with Halle Berry on the crime thriller.

“I’ve admired Halle’s work for many, many years. I was obviously very intimidated to sit opposite her within a scene and try and, you know, not just be in awe of what she was doing,” Hemsworth shared.

However, the Thor: Love and Thunder star noted that Berry was quick to ease his worries once they started filming the Bart Layton-directed feature.

“Certain people just bring out not just the best in you, but also sort of a comfort level where it feels like it’s a place to explore and it’s a place to examine different ideas and try different things.

During their interview at CinemaCon, Berry shared an on-set incident without going into the ugly details of the matter. She shared that she had experienced something bad and praised Hemsworth for standing up for her. Fans will probably get no further update on what happened on the set, as both Berry and Hemsworth preferred to keep it private.

While plot details for the movie are currently being kept under wraps, the original short story “follows high-level jewel thefts taking place up and down the Pacific Coast that police have linked to Colombian cartels. Detective Lou Lubesnick has other ideas and he zeroes in on one perp, a thief looking for a final score.”

Rounding out the packed cast are Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Tate Donovan, Devon Bostick, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Nick Nolte.

“In the driver’s seat of this exciting ride is none other than our fearless director, Bart Layton,” Berry told the crowd about the movie that features Ruffalo as a detective attempting to track down those responsible for a string of jewelry heists.

The filmmaker pointed out that the L.A.-based 101 Freeway plays a key role in the plot and shared that he hoped “to capture L.A. in a way you might not have seen on film before.”

Disney is about to give another villain the spotlight. After the success of Maleficent, the studio is hoping to finally crack its long-gestating Hercules live-action remake by shifting the movie's focus from the title demigod to the villainous Hades.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman (via The DisInsider), Hercules is no longer the star of his forthcoming live-action Disney movie. Instead, the upcoming remake will be told from the perspective of Hades, who was voiced by James Woods in the 1997 animated movie. Similar to the 2014 live-action movie Maleficent, which retold the events of Disney's Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of Angelina Jolie's title fairy, Hercules will retell the story of the 1997 animated film, but from Hades' point of view. This creative shakeup has also resulted in the movie currently being titled Hades.

After persistent rumors, we finally got confirmation that Disney was officially moving forward with a live-action remake of Hercules last year, with Aladdin director Guy Ritchie set to helm the project and Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo on board as producers.
