Scarlett Johansson’s First Movie: What Made an 8-Year-Old Chase the Hollywood Dream
Image
Scarlett Johansson made her film debut at the age of nine in Rob Reiner’s 1994 comedy North, playing the daughter of characters portrayed by John Ritter and Faith Ford.

The role was brief, but it placed her on a professional film set for the first time, surrounded by an ensemble cast and directed by one of Hollywood’s most recognizable names at the time. For a young actor, this could have easily been overwhelming. Johansson, however, approached it with professionalism.

While North moved quickly from one family to the next, Johansson’s performance didn’t lean into the chaos. She sat still, poised, delivering her lines with a sense of calm that felt unforced.

She wasn’t performing like a child trying to be cute. She wasn’t playing to the camera. She listened, responded, and let the scene happen around her without needing to overpower it. And at nine,...

Nicole Paggi Returns To ‘General Hospital,’ Temporarily Fills In For Kirsten Storms As Maxie Jones
Image
Nicole Paggi (“Hope & Faith”) was back in Port Charles as Maxie Jones on the Thursday, July 3 episode of “General Hospital.”

Reportedly, Paggi is stepping in for the character’s regular portrayer, Kirsten Storms, for at least three episodes due to the actress having a scheduling conflict, according to TV Insider, citing a show spokesperson who confirms the casting change is only temporary.

The outlet also notes that, due to the show’s taping schedule, which involves filming multiple episodes a day and sometimes out of order, the next episodes featuring Paggi as Maxie are set to air on Wednesday, July 30 and Wednesday, August 13. Storms will be back in the role sometime during the week of August 18-22, 2025.

The last time viewers saw Paggi on the show was in January 2024, when she filled in for Storms for two episodes, the first of which aired December 27, 2023 and the second airing January 5, 2024. Incidentally,...

An Underrated Stephen King TV Movie Spawned A Direct-To-Video Franchise
Image
If you are the parent of a curious child whose reading level is well above their age, and, most importantly, seems to be seriously into horror, you're going to want to introduce them to the literature of Stephen King earlier than might feel responsible. If they can handle mainstream screamfests like "Poltergeist," "Alien," and "The Omen" (1976), they are ready to begin their lifelong journey through King's oeuvre. And he is so accessible as a storyteller in terms of vocabulary that much of what might seem beyond a burgeoning reader's ken is surprisingly graspable. The content can be a bit much, but King's edgiest works are unlikely to appeal to kids in the first place. They're not going to get a whole lot out of "Gerald's Game." They will want to read "Pet Sematary."

Where should they start? That's easy. "Night Shift." Published in 1978, King's collection of 20 short stories range from...

Where the Cast of Murphy Brown Is Today
Image
Murphy Brown was a hit in the '90s for its strong portrayal of a female reporter tackling real issues. The 2018 revival of Murphy Brown only lasted one season, likely due to its heavy focus on politics. Candice Bergen and the rest of the cast have continued with guest appearances and new projects since the show ended.

Murphy Brown was one of the biggest comedies of the 1990s. Candice Bergen's titular investigative reporter for the Fyi news magazine captured viewers' attention on CBS for ten seasons and nearly 250 episodes. That's a run that fewer and fewer shows see these days.

Murphy Brown stood out for its strong portrayal of a no-nonsense female reporter tackling significant issues of the day. The show was a hallmark of its time, so it's no surprise it was given the reboot treatment in 2018. However, this revival only lasted one season before CBS pulled the plug.

2 Original Night Court Characters Will Return In Season 2 Of Reboot
Image
Season 2 of Night Court welcomes back original characters the Wheelers, who appeared in six episodes of the original Night Court. Brent Spiner and Annie O'Donnell will reprise their roles as the unlucky couple Bob and June Wheeler.

Night Court season 2 will continue an established trend, welcoming back memorable original characters. NBC's revival of the popular 1980s sitcom ended season 1 with Warfield reprising her role as Rosalind "Roz" Russell from the original Night Court. Warfield's return continued into the Night Court season 2, with Roz and Dan (John Larroquette) bonding after years apart over their mutual bewilderment of Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch).

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2024 press tour where Screen Rant was in attendance, showrunner Dan Rubin revealed that Brent Spiner and Annie O’Donnell will reprise their roles as the couple Bob and June Wheeler for Night Court season 2. In the original, Bob and June appeared in six episodes overall.

So, What Happened To Christine Sullivan In Night Court?
Image
Night Court reboot fails to address Christine Sullivan's fate, leaving fans wondering. The reboot focuses on a new judge, the daughter of Harry Stone, and introduces a new character as Abby's mother. It's unlikely that Harry and Christine reconciled before the reboot, leaving the door open for closure in a future episode.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for the Night Court reboot.

With the return of Night Court in the form of an NBC reboot, the question of what happened to Christine Sullivan after the original series ended looms large. Played by the late Markie Post, Public Defender Christine Sullivan was introduced as a temporary addition to the court during Night Court season 2. Christine proved popular as a character and Post joined the cast as a series regular in Night Court season 3, remaining with the show until it came to a close after nine seasons.

‘General Hospital’ Tabs Nicole Paggi To Temporarily Replace Kirsten Storms
Image
Nicole Paggi has agreed to temporarily become Maxie Jones on General Hospital. She takes over the role from Kirsten Storms, who will be out for a few days.

Soap Opera Digest first broke the news of the casting switch.

Paggi — who played Kelly Ripa’s niece/Faith Ford’s daughter Sydney in the ABC comedy Hope & Faith — debuted today on the ABC daytime soap.

Days of Our Lives vet Storms joined General Hospital in 2005 after playing Isabella “Belle” Black on the NBC drama from 1999 to 2004.

This is the second such switch of this character. Storms’ Maxie was temporarily recast in 2011, with Jen Lilley taking over the part until Storms returned in 2012. Abby's Mother Reveal In Night Court Resolves The Harry/Christine Romance

The Night Court reboot introduces Abby Stone's mother, Gina, resolving the romantic storyline between Harry and Christine from the original show. The original Night Court series had plans for Harry and Christine to get married, but they were interrupted by the show's renewal and cancellation. Gina Brown, played by Faith Ford, is Abby's mother in the reboot, and her past as a criminal allowed her to connect with Harry and eventually marry him.

Comedy Guest Actress Emmy predictions now open! Which performers are you picking?
Image
The Gold Derby predictions center event for the 2023 Emmy Awards has now added the Comedy Guest Actress category. From last year’s six nominees, both Jane Lynch (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Harriet Walter (“Ted Lasso”) are eligible to return. Night Court Season 1 Episode 10 Review: Marathon-Thon-Thon-Thon-Thon
Olivia
There are times when the episodic nature of sitcoms contradicts the expected continuity in their narrative.

Case in point, Night Court Season 1 Episode 10 continues the thread of Neil's crush on Abby established on Night Court Season 1 Episode 8 but reverses the gains Abby and Olivia made on Night Court Season 1 Episode 7.

Meanwhile, Dan's sentimentality over the bench pushes Gurgs's scheming buttons, introducing a new potentially recurring character, Bert, the gator-owning head of maintenance.

Fun fact: the production number for "Train Court" (Night Court Season 1 Episode 7) indicates that episode was filmed after this one, which may explain the de-evolution of Abby and Olivia's relationship.

The show's airing order hasn't followed the production order beyond the premiere where Night Court Season 1 Episode 1 and Night Court Season 1 Episode 2 were broadcast, but this is the first instance where the narrative has clearly been jumbled.

If they'd aired in the order they filmed, Abby's thirsty need...

Harry Stone's Fate In Night Court Reboot Is Even Sadder Than We Thought
Image
The Night Court reboot revealed that Harry Stone's life was a far cry from the somewhat happy ending that the original series finale suggested. Beyond revealing that Harry Stone was dead, the new series also affirmed that Judge Stone never reconciled with his longtime love interest, Public Defender Christine Sullivan. This revelation greatly disappointed those who had hoped that the Night Court reboot's lead, Judge Abby Stone, would be revealed as the daughter of both Harry and Christine.

Those hopes were dashed by the Night Court reboot episode “Blood Moon Binga,” which introduced Abby's mother, Gina Brown Stone. Played by Faith Ford, Gina was revealed to have fallen in love with Harry Stone after he showed her compassion she wasn't sure she deserved after she was arrested on charges of running an illegal poker game. The two got married after Gina served her sentence, and while no specific timeline...

Night Court Star Hopes Abby's Mother Can Return In The Future
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for Night Court season 1, episode 8, "Blood Moon Binga."After guest starring on Night Court as Abby Stone's mother, Faith Ford expresses hope that she'll be able to reprise the role in the future. Night Court premiered in January and is a revival of the original sitcom of the same name, which ran from 1984 to 1992. The original series took place in a New York City night court, presided over by a young and eccentric judge, Harry T. Stone (Harry Anderson). The reboot sees his daughter, Abby (Melissa Rauch), take up her late father's former role and also recently introduced Harry's widow, Gina.

In an interview with TV Insider, Ford opens up about her guest appearance on Night Court and her hopes of returning in the future. Ford did not appear in the original Night Court series, as Harry was never married on the show. However,...

S.T.R.O.N.G. (2016)
Night Court Season 1 Episode 8 Review: Blood Moon Binga
S.T.R.O.N.G. (2016)
I'll admit that Night Court Season 1 Episode 8 is probably my favorite offering so far this season.

There's something about doubling down on the absurdity of the court's usual clientele by adding some perennial extra craziness that rings true to the original series.

Meanwhile, learning about how (and with whom) Harry fell in love and moved upstate scratches that itch of missing him.

Remembering how the original series had several guest stars who recurred with delightful regularity, I can't help but consider the quirkier defendants we've seen for potential returns.

I suspect we won't see the vampire couple again, but Pam is in my "Strong Maybe" pile. It helps that she stuck around for multiple scenes.

Of course, being the Blood Moon, they may all be one-offs, although it would be interesting if Satan's daughter, Marsha, were to check in occasionally.

Night Court (2023)
Melissa Rauch on Casting Faith Ford as Abby’s Mom on ‘Night Court’ (Video)
Night Court (2023)
Nothing like a blood moon to make things at New York City’s night court crazier than usual. It all goes down in the Tuesday, February 28 episode of NBC‘s Night Court, the revival of the classic 1984-92 sitcom. Between the nutty cases, Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch) gets an unexpected visitor — her joyful mother, Gina (Murphy Brown’s Faith Ford). However, the heartfelt reunion may be short-lived when it’s revealed that Gina is harboring a big secret that just happens to involve cantankerous public defender Dan Fielding (John Larroquette). While at the 2023 Television Critics Association winter press tour, Rauch shared more about how she comedy landed Ford as Abby’s mother — a casting she says was a no-brainer, noting, “Just talking about Abby’s capturing the essence of Harry [Stone, played by the late Harry Anderson] and who else could she potentially capture the essence of.” Larroquette also gushed about being a fan of Ford,...

Jennifer Coolidge Is a Medium With a Fear of the Supernatural in ‘We Have a Ghost’ Trailer
Image
Jennifer Coolidge has lived many lives on screen, one of her latest being in Netflix’s upcoming film We Have a Ghost. Judging by her fear-stricken reaction to seeing an actual ghost, the psychic medium she plays, Judy Romano, is the kind of supernatural communicator who hopes they never actually have to come in contact with the supernatural.

It doesn’t help that the ghost at hand, a wronged family man named Ernest (David Harbour), is in cahoots with a teenager named Kevin (Jahi Di’Allo Winston), whose family moved into a haunted house.

Then, you might want to check out the new trailer for We Have a Ghost. The comedy is a Netflix original starring the streaming service’s Stranger Things star, David Harbour, and Anthony Mackie. Harbour’s spectre is the friendliest ghost outside of Casper and hijinks ensue when he and Mackie’s family start co-existing as local celebrities.

The official Netflix synopsis reads,

“Ernest the ghost, discovered by the homeowner who named him that because the apparation looks like Ernest Borgnine. The homeowner Frank, begins filming his ghost and posting it for the world to see on social media. Ernest becomes a viral sensation.

David Harbour Is A Viral Ghost In New Netflix Movie Trailer
Image
David Harbour haunts Anthony Mackie and Jennifer Coolidge in the new trailer for the Netflix horror-comedy We Have a Ghost. Netflix used to be known as the company that rented DVDs via little red envelopes sent in the mail, until the release of the nostalgic ‘80s-set horror series Stranger Things established the company’s reputation as creators of their own massively popular streaming content. And along with the explosion of Netflix came the arrival of Harbour, whose performance as Stranger Things’ Chief Jim Hopper made the long-time character actor into a genuine star.

While audiences eagerly await the final season of Stranger Things on Netflix, they can enjoy a different kind of Harbour performance in the upcoming We Have a Ghost, a horror-comedy from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon.

Giving off strong Beetlejuice vibes, the new We Have a Ghost trailer also teases The White Lotus’ Coolidge in a...

Night Court (2023)
‘Night Court’ Review: NBC Sequel Series Deftly Updates the Zany Sitcom for 2023
Night Court (2023)
Thirty years after “Night Court” came to a decidedly dissatisfying conclusion following nine seasons, NBC is returning to the scene of the crime and punishment. A sequel rather than a reboot, the new series features Judge Abby Stone — daughter of the zany but popular Judge Harry Stone (the late Harry Anderson), who anchored the original sitcom — wielding the gavel. She’s as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as he was, though not as deft a magician; during one trick, she gets a Constitution stuck in her bra.

A refresher: When we last left our kooky courtroom family, everyone essentially had decided to go their separate ways — defense attorney Christine Sullivan (the late Markie Post) to a newly elected post in Congress, womanizing assistant district attorney Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) to chase after Christine, court clerk Mac Robinson (the late Charles Robinson) to film school, and Harry, well, still in night court. Fans...

Wendie Malick, Melissa Villaseñor, Johnny Weir to Guest Star on ‘Night Court’ Season One
Wendie Malick
Wendie Malick, Melissa Villaseñor, comedian Pete Holmes and skaters Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski are among the lengthy list of guest stars who will appear on Season 1 of “Night Court.”

“Night Court” is back in session for a reboot of the comedy series that first aired in 1984 for nine seasons. In this new take on the series, John Larroquette reprises his role as narcissistic prosecutor Dan Fielding, with Melissa Rauch (“The Big Bang Theory”) playing optimistic judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson).

“We’re obviously huge fans of the original, and it’s an incredible privilege to get to work in this world and tell stories with these characters,” the series’ executive producer, Dan Rubin, said. “But it’s also a challenge to keep this show its own thing and have it stand on its own two feet.”

‘Night Court’ Adds Melissa Villaseñor, Wendie Malick, and Pete Holmes as Guest Stars
Harry Anderson, Selma Diamond, Ellen Foley, John Larroquette, Charles Robinson, and Richard Moll in Night Court (1984)
Look who’s reporting for Night Court. Producers of the NBC comedy — a revival of the ‘80s series of the same name — announced a slate of guest stars for the show at NBCUniversal’s presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour ahead of the show’s premiere on Tuesday, January 17. Those guest stars are Melissa Villaseñor (Saturday Night Live), Wendie Malick (Hot in Cleveland), Pete Holmes (How We Roll), Faith Ford (Hope & Faith), Kurt Fuller (Supernatural), Stephnie Weir (MADtv), Lyric Lewis (A.P. Bio), and figure skaters, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski, according to Variety. So far, only John Larroquette is returning from the original series — he’s coming back to play Dan Fielding again — though producers told reporters at the TCA press tour that they’re open to bringing back Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield to play Nostradamus “Bull” Shannon and Rosalind “Roz” Russell. Larroquette joins...

‘Night Court’ Revival Sets Guest Stars Including Pete Holmes, Melissa Villaseñor, Wendie Malick
Image
NBC’s upcoming “Night Court” revival has set a new slate of guest stars including Melissa Villaseñor, Faith Ford, Pete Holmes, Kurt Fuller, Stephanie Weir, Lyric Lewis, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.

The news came during NBCUniversal’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s winter 2023 press tour, where star and executive producer Melissa Rauch called “Night Court” a “newboot” of the original, which ran on NBC from 1984 to 1992 and starred Harry Anderson as judge Harry T. Stone.

Along with announcing the new guest stars, with character details yet to be announced, producers said during the “Night Court” panel that they would be open to bringing back Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield. Moll and Warfield are the only living cast members from the original series besides John Laroquette, who reprises his role in the revival.

The new “Night Court” follows the late Harry Stone’s daughter, the unapologetically optimistic judge Abby Stone.

‘Night Court’: Melissa Villaseñor, Pete Holmes & Johnny Weir Among Season 1 Guest Stars
Image
Court is officially back in session.

The cast of NBC’s Night Court will count with many guest stars in Season 1 including SNL‘s Melissa Villaseñor, Pete Holmes, Johnny Weir, Tara Lipinski, Lyric Lewis, Kurt Fuller, and Stephnie Weir. They joined previously announced Faith Ford who will portray Abby Stone’s (Melissa Rauch) mom.

A revival of the original series created by Reinhold Weege, the multi-camera Night Court centers on unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Harry Stone (originally played by Harry Anderson), who follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding, with John Larroquette reprising his role.

Executive producer Dan Rubin was much more tight-lipped as to whether or not the show would like to...

Most Anticipated Streaming Films Of 2023
Image
Streamers had been in the news a lot over 2022. Less for what they were providing their subscribers but more for what they weren’t providing. Finished movies were shelved forever, projects canceled outright, and shows that seemed a shoo-in to be renewed were canceled. Luckily for 2023, it looks like we’re still about to get a lot of great content sent directly to our homes. What streaming films should we be anticipating?

Teen Wolf: The Movie – Paramount+ January 26th

It’s finally come full circle. First, there was the 80s Teen Wolf movie. Then MTV took that idea and based a young adult TV series on it. Now, that MTV series is getting a reunion movie to premiere on Paramount+. As it was, it shall be. A new evil has emerged, and Scott must reunite with his old friends, as well as some new ones, to fight this new menace.

10 youngest Emmy nominees for Best Comedy Supporting Actress: List includes overall youngest acting competitor
Image
Following appearances on “Cagney & Lacey,” “Thirtysomething,” and “Webster,” 22-year-old Faith Ford landed her first regular TV series role on the CBS sitcom “Murphy Brown.” As one of seven original cast members, she played Corky Sherwood, a young news reporter whose cheerful personality often clashed with that of the titular Brown (Candice Bergen), her older, much more cynical colleague. Over the course of 10 seasons, the role brought Ford five Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy nominations.

Ford’s first bid was one of 11 that the show earned in 1989 for its inaugural season. At 24, she was the ninth youngest actress to ever compete in her category, and she now ranks just one spot lower. Including Ford, all 10 of the women on the list were added to it prior to 1994, with three having been under 20 and one having received her bid before turning 10.

Emmys flashback 30 years ago to 1992: Unusual ceremony pits series regulars against guest stars
Image
It was an unusual ceremony, in which an Emmy rule change pitted series regulars against one-episode guest stars. In addition, two of the most awarded comedies of all time battled it out, a favorite drama lost the top spot and one of the most celebrated talk shows of all time finally received a top honor. This was also the last year that the Big Four networks received all the nominations for Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series. We’re throwing it back three decades to August 30, 1992, when Tim Allen, Kirstie Alley and Dennis Miller hosted the 44th Primetime Emmy Awards on Fox. Read on for our Emmys flashback 30 years ago to 1992.

Between 1989 and 1992, “Cheers” and “Murphy Brown” volleyed the Best Comedy award back and forth. This was “Murphy’s” year, winning in this category for the second and final time. The other sitcoms up were “Brooklyn Bridge,” “Home Improvement” and “Seinfeld.
