Reacher who? Actor Alan Ritchson looks nothing like his fan-favorite character in the first look at his upcoming action movie, Motor City.
Elevation Pictures has unveiled the first imageof Ritchson from Motor City, showing the Reacher actor decked out in a white muscle shirt and sporting a long head of hair and an unkempt beard. The image also confirms that Ritchson's character has at least four tattoos. The first look image was shared on X by the film and television company to announce that Motor City would have its North American premiere at the upcoming 50th Toronto International Film Festival, in the Centrepiece programme, this September.

Thanks to his leading role in Prime Video’s hit action series, Reacher, Alan Ritchson has now become a bona fide action superstar. Possessing the sort of size to rival that of even the “Austrian Oak” himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the charisma to boot, Ritchson putting his name on another action project outside the adventures of Jack Reacher is reason enough to be excited. And, thanks to a near-unrecognizable first look at the actor in Motor City, we could very well have an action thriller classic on our hands.
Alan Ritchson takes the lead in the ‘70s-inspired revenge thriller Motor City, which will reportedly only have five lines of dialogue. Instead, the thriller will let the action do the talking. In the first look image, which you can check out below, Ritchson combines his familiarly huge frame with long hair and a glorious beard as he finds himself behind bars...

After years of anticipation, Alan Ritchson is finally getting bloody, brutal, and almost entirely silent in Motor City, his ambitious 1970s-era action film set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ambitious might be an understatement — the movie reportedly contains just five lines of dialogue across its entire runtime, leaving the action to do all the talking, and TIFF has just released an image of a long-haired and nearly unrecognizable Ritchson looking imposing and brutal.
Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, Motor City stars Ritchson as John Miller — “a Detroit man released from prison, who unleashes a rampage of brutal vengeance on those who framed him,” according to TIFF’s official description. The Detroit-set thriller promises immersive visual storytelling and “stunningly choreographed and stylized action sequences” in a grimy, crime-ridden 1970s landscape.

If you recall '80s and '90s music videos as vividly as I do, you must remember they were big on promoting movies (and their main characters) if the songs were specifically made or used in them. Who could forget Will Smith's banger for "Men in Black" or Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" that helped turn "The Bodyguard" with Kevin Costner into an unlikely hit? Hell, before the internet came around, I often learned about new films by watching MTV and VH1 for hours after school. But those days are long gone; music TV channels aren't really a thing anymore, sadly -- YouTube replaced them once and for all.
Music videos that featured scattered scenes from films throughout basically have disappeared entirely. What stuck around to some extent, however, is beloved and big-time Hollywood actors appearing in silly, heartfelt, and sometimes beautifully heartbreaking music videos...

De Oliveira will play Alejandra, Lee’s ex-girlfriend and mother to an 11-month-old son.
Other than De Oliveira, Cowboy also adds Simon Rex (Red Rocket), Carlos Pratts (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, McFarland, USA) and Cameron Sault in supporting roles, the latter of whom is making his acting debut.

Reacher star Alan Ritchson looks more intimidating than ever in a new image from his upcoming action thriller movie. Though some audiences will recognize him from projects like Smallville, Blue Mountain State, or The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), it's the hit Prime Video action series adapting the books by Lee Child that made Ritchson a star.
Reacher has been a massive hit for the streamer, with Ritchson taking on the lead role of Jack Reacher, a former MP who travels from town to town solving crimes and helping those in need. The show most recently returned for a well-received season 3, and Reacher season 4 is now confirmed to be on the way.
Following the Reacher premiere in 2022, Ritchson has become a more common sight in the world of movies, too. He recently appeared in Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024), for example, playing the formidable Anders Lassen.

Alan Ritchson might be best known for breaking bones and busting heads as Jack Reacher, but his next role may be his boldest yet. In a newly released image from Motor City, the rising action star looks battered, bruised, and bloody — right at home in the gritty underworld of 1970s Detroit. But it’s not just the physicality that has people talking: this movie barely has any dialogue. Yes, really. Director Potsy Ponciroli (Old Henry) took to Instagram to announce that Motor City — a “gorgeous action film set in ’70s Detroit… with only 4 lines of dialogue” — has officially been selected for the Venice Film Festival.
The photo shows Ritchson, bloodied and intense, a far cry from his clean-cut Reacher persona. “Today it’s official,” Ponciroli wrote. “We got into the Venice film fest! So many people gave so much time and creativity to this project, and I can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Rachel Brosnahan, the actress who is widely renowned for her breakthrough role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has earned a one-way ticket into one of the up-and-coming Dcu, through James Gunn’s upcoming Superman. And since then, talks about her pretty much refuse to die down.
The forthcoming flick will see her embodying the character of the fan-beloved Lois Lane: A world-famous investigative journalist at Daily Planet, who works alongside (and ends up being the love interest of) Clark Kent, aka the Kryptonian superhero Kal-El (played by David Corenswet in the new movie).
Judging from the reviews that the trailer and the early screenings have received so far, Brosnahan has ostensibly left no stone unturned in giving one of the finest performances of her lifetime as Lane. But while that one’s to look forward to, you might want to see more of her after watching her in Superman.

Cobie Smulders' first sitcom since How I Met Your Mother has received a major setback. Since her debut in the early 2000s, with guest turns on shows like Smallville and Tru Calling, Smulders has taken on a variety of roles. Sydney Sweeney is portraying real-life fighter Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. To effectively play the part, Sweeney needed to bulk up, and she ultimately put on 30 pounds for the transformative movie role, which has been described as a "female Rocky."
Sweeney and the film's director, David Michôd, discussed her casting as Christy Martin in a new profile for W Magazine. Michôd stressed how Sweeney "trained her butt off to play the part," impressed by the physical work she had put into the film. Gaining 30 pounds and taking part in training sessions was not easy, but Sweeney also said she she "loved" every bit of it, no matter how challenging some days might have gotten.
“I loved it,” Sweeney explained. "I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours,...

Sydney Sweeney says she told co-star Katy O’Brian “If you break my nose, that’s fine” while rehearsing fight scenes for the Christy Martin biopic, a comment first shared on IndieWire’s social feeds and echoed by O’Brian on Reddit. The actor has trained three-and-a-half months, lifting and kickboxing daily, and added about 30 pounds of muscle to match the six-time world champion’s build.
The film, financed by Black Bear and Anonymous Content, is directed by David Michôd from a script he wrote with Mirrah Foulkes; cameras rolled in North Carolina and wrapped last November. Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Ethan Embry and O’Brian join Sweeney onscreen, while producers include Kerry Kohansky-Roberts and Sweeney herself. Post-production insiders tell CinemaBlend the team is eyeing a 2026 festival launch while weighing U.S. distributors.
O’Brian confirmed Sweeney took real shots during takes, leaving both performers bruised but satisfying consultants who insisted the bouts look “fight-night” authentic.

“Even the best fall down sometimes”, sang Howie Day in Collide, and rarely has that lyric landed harder than on Taylor Sheridan’s resume. Yes, the mastermind of Yellowstone and Sicario once put his name behind Finestkind, a 2023 crime thriller so poorly received, it’s been digitally buried like last year’s memes.
This cinematic shipwreck paired up-and-coming Jenna Ortega with Hollywood veteran Tommy Lee Jones, promising firepower but delivering a fizzle. Critics didn’t sing much praise, and Jenna Ortega fans labeled it one of the worst performances to date. The irony? Sheridan, who now steers prestige Westerns, would likely prefer you pretend this film never existed.
With a 28% Rotten Tomatoes rating and dialogue so stiff it could splinter wood, Finestkind isn’t just a flop; it’s an embarrassment that everyone involved hopes you missed.

As a prolific creator, Taylor Sheridan has been behind numerous TV shows (alongside some movie screenplays) and regularly directs a number of episodes of his series. Yet he still finds the time and bandwidth to produce a few projects that aren't his creations. One of those is Brian Helgeland's crime thriller, "Finestkind," which unceremoniously came and went on Paramount+ at the end of 2023. It's especially odd the movie didn't get much fanfare back then because it features a damn good cast, including Ben Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, Toby Wallace, and Jenna Ortega, among others. Not to mention that its director was behind such classics as 1999's "Payback" with Mel Gibson and 2001's "A Knight's Tale" with the late Heath Ledger.
If you look at it a little more closely, however, you'll see it's not that surprising that it was dumped and immediately forgotten on Paramount+, which usually champions everything...

Will Smith made headlines this week when he revealed that he passed on the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s Inception, but one of his movies has returned to streaming glory only a few years after it was released. Smith stars alongside Ben Foster and Ronnie Gene Blevins in Emancipation, the R-rated period action thriller following a runaway slave trekking through the swamps of Louisiana on a journey to escape the plantation owners who nearly killed him. Emancipation began streaming on Apple TV+ on December 2, 2022, and it’s currently one of the most popular movies in the world on the streamer, charting in more than 25 countries globally. The film earned “rotten” scores of 45% from critics and 58% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Acting is imitation. Writing is confession. Taylor Sheridan, in a minute of screen time, can do both.
Some men are born with a pen in their hand and a saddle under their seat. Taylor Sheridan? He wrestled both. Before he became the lone ranger of prestige Western TV, he was just another ‘handsome guy’ auditioning for a three-line part in CSI. But even a broken clock tells the right time twice a day.
While he’s since become a barnstorming showrunner behind Yellowstone, 1883, and Mayor of Kingstown, there’s one film that proved he wasn’t just a rancher of scripts; he could act, too. That film was Hell or High Water. With a cameo shorter than a Texas rainstorm but twice as impactful, Sheridan gave a performance that didn’t shout, didn’t plead, and didn’t sparkle; it just was. Gritty. Earnest. And heartbreakingly real.

Action icon Jason Statham saw huge success last year with the wild action thriller The Beekeeper, with a sequel now officially on the way. With his return as the world’s best assassin-turned-beekeeper-turned-assassin again, there are plenty of previous franchises led by The Stath that could come back for more, with one of the actor and martial artist’s former directors eager to work with the action superstar again.
Speaking with MovieWeb’s own George Edelman, director Simon West, who helmed the Statham vehicles The Expendables 2, Wild Card, and The Mechanic, says he’d love to reunite with The Stath and is “sure” they will do something again in the future. So, could The Mechanic 3 finally be on the cards?
“Yeah, yeah. I mean, I've done three movies with Jason, and we always enjoy working with each other. And I think, you know, we're both proud of the films we did together.

Pride goeth before the pool party. That’s the phrase that kept echoing in our head as we rewatched Hell or High Water, a film many fans consider a dusty elegy to American despair and, ironically, the best thing Taylor Sheridan has ever touched.
Indeed, before he became the narrative puppeteer behind the sprawling Yellowstone saga, Sheridan made a cameo in Hell or High Water, a brief, poetic whisper amid a cacophony of grit and loss. That fleeting moment, where he plays a cowboy lamenting the vanishing frontier, encapsulates his intimate understanding of the American West’s slow death.
Yet, in Yellowstone, his recurring character, Travis Wheatley, feels less like a subtle echo and more like a bulldozer of the storyline. This discrepancy reveals why many fans found Sheridan’s on-screen presence insufferable, a case of a storyteller who mastered restraint in his writing but failed to master it in front of the camera.

There’s something undeniably terrifying about vampire cinema when it’s done right. The undead make for notoriously effective screen adversaries when packaged correctly. 30 Days of Night undoubtedly excels in its depiction of vampires, the creatures within are menacing, blood-thirsty, and unhinged. Not to mention, the brilliant makeup effects ensure the vamps look properly imposing at all times.
In addition to the way the film nails the visual depiction of vampires, it also plays around with lore, making the undead more primitive and far more imposing than what we see in many popular screen renderings. Few will find these vamps sexy, that’s for sure.
If you’re game to experience the flick’s unforgettable take on the undead, you can currently do so free of charge via Xumo Play.

“The Accountant 2” is a fun, charming action thriller. It may not be the sequel that fans of its 2016 parent film were expecting, but that is why it works. It doubles down on the electric chemistry between its stars, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, to deliver a sequel that has many of the same ingredients as the original “Accountant” but even more heart. As contradictory as it may seem to call a sequel original, “The Accountant 2” is, thanks to its combination of familial drama, intrigue and unsparing, pulse-pounding action, a unique concoction.
There are some films, however, that scratch the same itches as it. Case in point: Here are seven movies like “The Accountant 2” that you should watch next if you loved the film.

Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to the fighting world. Last year, just prior to starting the training for portraying boxer Christy Martin, the Euphoria star shared her antsy anticipation for getting back into combat sports when she said, “I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.” In the time since, photos had been released online teasing Sweeney’s transformation into Martin’s fighting shape.
According to Deadline, Sweeney recently shared her journey with W Magazine about putting on 30 pounds to play the athlete in the film. Sweeney professed, “I loved it. I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training.

Sydney Sweeney explains how she physically transformed for the upcoming Christy Martin biopic. The untitled biopic movie tells the story of Christy Martin, who became the most successful female boxer of the 1990s. The movie is directed by David Michôd and co-written by him and Mirrah Foulkes. In addition to Sweeney, its cast includes Katy O'Brian, Merritt Weaver, Ben Foster, Tony Cavalero, and Ethan Embry. The film does not yet have a release date or trailer, but there have been behind-the-scenes photos of her transformation.
Speaking with W Magazine, Sweeney spoke about her physical transformation to play Christy Moore. She described her intense training regimen, where she ate more, went through weight training, and "kickboxed midday for about two hours." In the process, her "body was completely different," including her jean sizes increasing. While the experience was "crazy," she also felt it was "amazing" because of the strength she gained.

Sydney Sweeney has experienced a sharp rise through the ranks of Hollywood, driven by her acclaimed performances in shows like Euphoria and The White Lotus, but her next role is one that people may not even recognize her in. Before the internet caught fire over bathwater headlines, Sydney Sweeney was already turning heads for a very different reason, her jaw-dropping transformation for the Christy Martin biopic.
It most definitely marked a clear shift from the image she built after her breakout as Cassie. Every red carpet look only cemented her s-x symbol status. But with Christy, she was finally given the opportunity to prove she’s got real range.
And Sweeney is thus now finally opening up about what she did to play the legendary boxer known as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Turns out, she didn’t just throw a few punches and call it a day, she fully committed. That meant gaining 30 pounds to match Martin’s weight class and make the role as authentic as possible. Here is how she did it!

Sydney Sweeney says the toughest part of her next film wasn’t stepping between the ropes—it was adding roughly 30 pounds of muscle for the chance to play trail-blazing prize-fighter Christy Martin in an untitled biopic directed by David Michôd.
In a W Magazine cover story she describes three daily training blocks—weights at dawn, two hours of kick-boxing at midday, and another hour of weights at night—that left her “so strong, like crazy strong,” even if her jeans jumped from size 23 to 27.
The physical overhaul is only part of the assignment. Michôd, who co-wrote the script with Mirrah Foulkes, calls Martin’s life “a wild mix of under-dog sports saga and personal ordeal” and says Sweeney “turned up every day with her tail wagging, ready to go”.

Sydney Sweeney continues to prove she's a legitimate genre bender, starring in dramas, romantic comedies and horror flicks. Her next project will see the actor punching her way into another genre, portraying iconic boxer Christy Martin in an "amazing" upcoming sports biopic.
Speaking with W Magazine, Sweeney discussed the untitled Martin biopic and how she bulked up to resemble the boxing legend. Sweeney underwent a wide-ranging transformation, gaining over 30 pounds and doing months of intense training to portray Martin. Though she looked unrecognizable, as evidenced by set photos from the movie, Sweeney "loved" the challenge.
"I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour," she said. "My body was completely different. W also noted that the actor gained more than 30 pounds for the role.
“My body was completely different,” Sweeney said. “I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god.”

Tyler Perry’s Straw (2025) is a raw and emotionally charged Netflix thriller that dives headfirst into the devastating spiral of poverty, systemic neglect, and racial injustice in America. At its center is Taraji P. Henson’s soul-baring performance as Janiyah, a single Black mother desperately trying to survive one of the worst days of her life. As her world collapses piece by piece—losing her job, her car, her daughter, and even her sense of self—Janiyah finds herself entangled in an accidental bank standoff. With a powerful supporting cast including Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, and Ashley Versher, and Perry’s signature blend of melodrama and social critique, Straw is a heartbreaking but timely story of how quickly the system can fail those it is meant to protect.

Taylor Sheridan’s best movie ain’t just a gripping drama. It’s a masterclass in power, pride, and what happens when egos collide. At a time when the Elon Musk–Donald Trump fallout is lighting up headlines, Sheridan’s storytelling feels more relevant than ever. His film dives into the chaos unleashed when billionaires go head-to-head, revealing how unchecked ambition and personal grudges can spiral into something far more dangerous.
While Musk and Trump spar in the real world, Taylor Sheridan’s cinematic lens reminds us: when the ultra-rich wage war, it’s often the rest of us left picking up the pieces.

When I finally watched Hell or High Water, I sat there wondering: why wasn’t Yellowstone like this (at all) from the get-go? Taylor Sheridan gave us a stripped-down, soul-crushingly real Western in that film, minus the melodramatic standoffs and operatic monologues about land and legacy, which I lived for. We got raw tension, moral gray zones, and dusty desperation. It’s what I thought Yellowstone promised.
Don’t get me wrong, though, I love a good ranch fight, but Ts’s film made me feel something. Meanwhile, the show often feels like it’s cosplaying the West. One’s a punch in the gut. The other’s just performance. And I’ll tell you exactly why I feel so.

We didn’t expect Hell or High Water to punch us in the gut again. Not after all these years. But there we are, watching it now streaming on Fubo, and it hit harder than we remembered…like hearing a familiar song at a funeral. Taylor Sheridan didn’t craft a Western; he sculpted a slow-burn tragedy in denim and dust.
Sure, everyone talks about Yellowstone, Lioness, and Landman like they’re his magnum opus, but they’re just the TV children of a cinematic parent that said more with a worn-out pickup and foreclosure notice than ten seasons ever could. Hell or High Water is a tale about desperation, dignity, and a dying America that still owed people answers. And it’s back not to entertain but to remind you what we’ve buried.

Before Yellowstone became a television juggernaut, Taylor Sheridan was already redefining the modern Western on the big screen. Years before the Montana ranch saga began, Sheridan penned the neo-Western movie, directed by David Mackenzie.
It featured a legendary actor, Jeff Bridges, in top form, Sheridan’s sharp writing, and the fading promise of the American Dream. And nearly a decade later, the movie has found a new life, rising once again on streaming. The movie is Hell or High Water, a must-watch for fans of Sheridan’s storytelling.
