Actress Marla Gibbs shared her favorite episode from her classic sitcom The Jeffersons—and the one she’d do over—in her new uInterview.

The Jeffersons, a spinoff of the smash hit show All in the Family, ran from 1975 to 1985 and followed an African American couple (played by Isabel Sanford and Sherman Hemsley) who move to a luxury high-rise apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and adjust to their newfound affluence after being raised in a working-class neighborhood in Queens. Gibbs played the family’s maid, Florence, starting in 1975, beginning at the age of 44. Gibbs was nominated for an Emmy five times for her role.

ABC has set Chelsea Handler and Marla Gibbs to guest star in Episode 7 of “Not Dead Yet” Season 2.

“Not Dead Yet” stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell, a journalist who takes a job writing obituaries at the SoCal Independent and soon gains the ability to see and speak to ghosts. The episode featuring Handler and Gibbs, which airs in late March, sees Lexi (Lauren Ash) and Duncan (Brad Garrett) spend a weird version of quality time at the newspaper’s softball game.

Handler will play Sharon Darynson, the owner of the rival news station to the SoCal Independent and the long-time nemesis to Duncan Rhoades (Brad Garrett). While everyone else runs in fear of Duncan, Sharon refuses to be intimidated by him.

Gibbs — the mother of Angela E. Gibbs, who stars in “Not Dead Yet” as Cricket — will play Cricket’s mother, Nana Sugar, who becomes one of Nell’s (Gina Rodriguez) obituary subjects.

The 75th Emmy Awards was originally set to take place last September, but was postponed due to the historic WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, reports Variety.

The Television Academy has announced the full list of performers and presenters who will appear at the upcoming 75th Emmy Awards.

The show, which was originally supposed to air in 2023, will now take place on Monday night (January 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

The ceremony is going to air on Fox and will be broadcast live coast-to-coast. It will be available on Hulu the next day.

The executive producers of the show have teased that there will be “show-stopping cast reunions and tributes to hit television series spanning seven-plus decades.”

Host Anthony Anderson also revealed his unconventional plan for keeping things moving on Emmy night. Instead of the traditional play-off music to wrap up long speeches, for the first time in Emmy history, his mother, Doris Bowman aka Mama Doris, will act as the “enforcer” to ensure a swift pace of the telecast.

Starz’s P-Valley won a leading three awards including Best Drama, Best Ensemble and Best Acting (Male) for J. Alphonse Nicholson and Nicco Annan as the African American Film Critics Association revealed winners Wednesday of its fifth annual TV Honors.

The other multiple winner this year is ABC’s Abbott Elementary, which was named Best Comedy, while its creator-star Quinta Brunson won for Best Writing.

Other notable winners include Niecy Nash-Betts, who won the Best Acting (Female) for Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Jessica Williams, who won the Breakout Star Award for Apple TV+’s Shrinking.

The awards recognize achievements in broadcast TV and streaming with an emphasis on entertainment representing the Black diaspora. Since the category of supporting actress in a comedy series was launched at the Primetime Emmy Awards in the mid-1960s, only 13 African American performers had been nominated in total leading up to this year. Just two had won: Jackee Harry for “227” in 1987 and Sheryl Lee Ralph last year for “Abbott Elementary.” But the category, and the Emmys in general, received a radical shake-up this morning when four Black actresses cracked the lineup of nominees: Ralph and Janelle James for “Abbott,” Ayo Edebiri for “The Bear” and Jessica Williams for “Shrinking.” That’s more than half the seven slots allotted to the category. There have never been more than two in that lineup previously.

The African American Film Critics Association will honor Jennifer Hudson, Delroy Lindo, Marla Gibbs, “Ted Lasso” and “S.W.A.T.” at the fifth annual Aafca TV Honors.

Hudson will receive the “We See You” Award, given to performers who demonstrate versatility in their work with consistent excellence in their craft. Delroy Lindo (“UnPrisoned”) will receive the “Legacy Award” presented to an artist or institution that inspires others to follow their path.

The African American Film Critics Association revealed on Friday the artists, actors and TV shows that will be honored at the 5th annual Aafca TV Honors.

Among the special achievement recipients this year are classic TV legend Marla Gibbs, known for sitcoms 227 and The Jeffersons, who will receive Aafca’s Legend Award. Delroy Lindo, known for his roles in Unprisoned, Da 5 Bloods, Crooklyn and Romeo Must Die, will receive the Legacy Award.

In addition, Egot winner Jennifer Hudson will receive Aafca’s We See You Award for her “versatility” and “consistent excellence” throughout her music and acting career, as well as hosting The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Production designers had their hands full the past year, recreating everything from an 18th century palace large enough for indoor badminton games to retro kitchens that looked like they were straight out of the 1970s. To achieve their period-accurate sets, they consulted books, photos and guild archives.

For the third season of “The Great,” production designer Francesca Di Mottola a built a “gigantic games room where anything could happen and served many different purposes,” horse breeding among them. The production designer began scouting locations in the U.K., where the black comedy about Catherine the Great is filmed, but none quite fit what she was looking for, so she built the room on a soundstage.

The room, which first appeared in episode 3 of the Hulu series, had high ceilings and paneled walls with timber all around. It needed to be large enough for parties in addition to badminton games and horse breeding.

Sam Page, who played Richard Hunter on Freeform’s “The Bold Type,” has been cast in a recurring role as an injured Air Force pilot on “Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC told TheWrap on Wednesday.

His character, Sam Sutton, will first be seen in the episode airing Thursday, May 4. The character is badly hurt after a base-jumping accident, but, per ABC, “somehow maintains his sense of humor and charm.”

Page’s previous TV credits include “Mad Men,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Desperate Housewives,” and “House of Cards.”

Yes, it’s good to be the king. But sometimes it’s nearly as good to be part of a legacy project initiated four decades ago by indisputable Hollywood comedy royalty — in this case, legendary writer, director, producer and performer Mel Brooks’ “The History of the World, Part 2.”

In celebration of Feb. 23 season premiere, series star Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams and showrunner Jordan E. Cooper sat down for a Variety TV Screening Series conversation, presented by BET+, to discuss classic sitcoms, getting “The Jeffersons” star Marla Gibbs to curse and tackling society’s ongoing obsession with Botox.

“The Ms. Pat Show” is based on Williams’ personal life, drawing from the comedienne’s past as a teenage mom and ex-felon. Williams concurrently serves as a writer and producer on the series, which she developed alongside Cooper. The Season 3 premiere also marks Cooper’s directing debut and he helmed three of the nine new episodes.

Fifty-two years ago, Gail Fisher (“Mannix”) followed Diahann Carroll (“Julia”) as the second Black woman to win an acting Golden Globe and the first to be so honored for a supporting TV performance. After all this time, her name remains the only one on the latter list, but she could soon be joined by Niecy Nash-Betts, who is looking to set a record of her own as the first Black actress to ever receive a Golden Globe for work on a limited series. The morning after she won the Emmy for her portrayal of veteran teacher Barbara Howard, Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Abbott Elementary colleagues greeted her with a spirited ovation. After 45 years of consistent work in film (To Sleep With Anger, Sister Act 2), television (Designing Women, Moesha, Ray Donovan) and theater (Dreamgirls, Thoroughly Modern Millie), her career had reached a new pinnacle. Variety won 22 National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards at a ceremony in Universal City Sunday night, including a staff win for for entertainment website of the year. The 22 trophies represented the most scored by any publication at the event.

The Hollywood Reporter was named best entertainment publication at the 15th annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards, which were handed out at a gala Sunday night at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City.

The 1971 Golden Globes marked the first instance of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association bestowing awards for supporting TV performances. The inaugural male and female recipients of these two prizes were James Brolin and Gail Fisher (“Mannix”), both of whom had won Emmys for the same roles eight months earlier. Fisher followed Diahann Carroll as the second Black woman to win a Golden Globe in any acting category, and, five decades later, remains the only Black Best TV Supporting Actress champ.
