"The Big Bang Theory" wrapped up its 12-season run in the spring of 2019 — and according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter shortly after it aired, showrunner and creator Chuck Lorre was extremely anxious about getting the finale right ... largely because he felt he hadn't done that with a previous project, the popular TV series "Dharma & Greg."
In an expansive chat with Mikey O'Connell, the interviewer began a question — "With 'The Big Bang Theory, how important was it for you to ..." only for Lorre to immediately respond. "To land the plane safely? It meant a lot — to be there from our very clumsy beginnings, to when we actually figured out how to do it and sustain it, to end with what I think is a wonderful [episode]," he replied. The Abbott Elementary crossover with It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia was chaotic in the best way possible, but there are other outlandish crossover combinations that could be magic. Abbott Elementary’s creator Quinta Brunson and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia showrunner Rob McElhenney worked together to make the impossible come true: the FX sitcom “Gang” meeting the Abbott teachers. There were a million reasons why it shouldn’t have worked, but the crossover was a hit.
Aside from hidden It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia references in the Abbott Elementary episode, the crossover had the unlikely pair change each other for the better. While McElhenney’s Mac helped Ava (Janelle James) blackmail the golf course, Charlie Day's Charlie Kelly learned how to read at Abbott Elementary. At the same time, the crossover protected the unique identities of both titles. Despite how unconventional a crossover may be, it could be a...

The Eaton Fire has left devastation in its wake, tearing through homes and lives, including those of celebrities. Mandy Moore, star of This Is Us, revealed that while her Altadena home was miraculously still standing as of January 9th, her family’s garage, music studio, and back house weren’t as fortunate.

Amid the turmoil, Moore also shared a GoFundMe link for her in-laws, Griff and Kit Goldsmith, who lost everything in the fire. However, her well-meaning gesture didn’t come without backlash, as critics questioned her decision to seek public support. But Moore had a response for the doubters. If anything, this situation really sheds light on a grim truth, disasters spare no one.

Francis Ford Coppola is responsible for half a century of onscreen leading men. The greatest Hollywood actors of the later 20th century, from Al Pacino to Robert De Niro to Robert Duvall? They also got their big break in one of the first two "Godfather" films. That's not to say these actors wouldn't have been stars without Coppola's movies (none of them are exactly one-hit wonders), but the New Hollywood truly put several artists in the right place at the right time to produce classic films.
In 1983, Coppola did it again with "The Outsiders," adapting S.E. Hinton's 1967 coming-of-age novel about several low-class teenage "Greasers" in 1960s Oklahoma. The main ensemble was played by several then up-and-comers, now-stars: Ralph Macchio as the sensitive Johnny Cade, Matt Dillon as wannabe tough guy Dallas "Dally" Winston, and Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze as brothers Sodapop and Darrel "Darry" Curtis. Criminal Minds’ A.J. Cook stirred up some drama when she cast her own sons in the show. Yep, nepotism allegations made their way into the mix, and Cook wasn’t about to just brush it off. The actress faced some serious heat for bringing her kids on set, but hey, this is Hollywood, where keeping it in the family isn’t exactly rare.

In 2020, fans experienced the heartbreaking news that one of their top series, Criminal Minds, had been canceled after fifteen seasons. When the show received a reboot two years later, not all of the cast returned.
Criminal Minds: Evolution brought back some of our favorite profilers, only one of whom had been with the show since the beginning and a few who replaced original team members who had left before the show ended.
One of the most significant losses in the show’s history was that of boy-wonder Dr. Reid Spencer, played by Matthew Gray Gubler.
(Cliff Lipson/CBS)
During the fifteen-year original run of Criminal Minds, Reid played the nerdy academic with an eidetic memory and a brilliance for profiling criminals.
Fans adored the awkward genius that was Dr. Spencer Reid, whether it was his close relationship with J.J. (A.J. Cook) and her sons, his bromance with former Bau...

Paget Brewster spilled some behind-the-scenes drama about Criminal Minds. She revealed that there were two actresses the show shouldn’t have fired. Now, this wasn’t just some casual gossip; it was a nod to the backstage shake-ups that left fans puzzled over talent exits. Brewster (or Emily Prentiss as we know her), highlighted decisions that felt unnecessary and questionable.

Criminal Minds took the crime genre to a whole new level when it was released in 2005 and also presented a stunning ensemble of actors. But just like any other long-running show, even this series went through a lot of changes in the main cast. While Mandy Patinkin left the project for personal reasons, actor Thomas Gibson was fired in 2016 after his on-set altercation with a writer.

These exits also overshadowed the departure of actor Shemar Moore who played Derek Morgan on the show. While his exit was due to a lot of reasons, after Criminal Minds he got on board S.W.A.T. which was nearly canceled twice.
After Mandy Patinkin and Thomas Gibson’s Exit Shemar Moore Left Criminal Minds for S.W.A.T.
Criminal Minds with its thrilling plots and storylines can easily be one of the most interesting crime dramas out there.

Criminal Minds is a beloved show for many reasons. Be it the grotesque themes, police investigations, funny banter, or Spencer Reid’s character as a whole, fans absolutely adore the series. So much so, that it has become one of the most watched and beloved crime shows of all time.

While the love that fans have for the series has certainly helped its ratings, at times, their love has also blinded them to a certain degree. This is more true for the case of plot holes. Considering the series is 17 seasons long and running, it is not surprising that some plot holes will appear.
However, there are a few that could completely erase certain characters from the series.

Criminal Minds featured several talented A-listers from the industry. But out of the lot, Thomas Gibson would be the most well-known. While his role as Aaron Hotchner quickly gained limelight, so did his behind-the-scenes antics. While these antics played a major role in his termination from the show in 2016, he was also embroiled in a scandal of his own during the time.

Alan Rachins, who spent 13 seasons on television portraying the boorish law partner Douglas Brackman Jr. on L.A. Law and the hippie father of Jenna Elfman’s character on Dharma & Greg, died Saturday. He was 82.

Criminal Minds: Evolution showrunner Erica Messer explains the season 2 comment about Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and his sabbatical. New episodes have followed David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) and other members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit amid increasing criminal activity, but Gublers character remains noticeably absent. Is Reid and Simmons’ special assignment—explaining Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney‘s absences since scheduling hasn’t worked for either to return—over on Criminal Minds: Evolution? After all, when Reid was brought up this season, Prentiss (Paget Brewster) said he was on a sabbatical. But don’t read too much into that, showrunner Erica Messer says. “I think we discussed what Prentiss would say to Jill [Felicity Huffman] and it just felt like special assignment felt too ‘in the know,'” Messer tells TV Insider. “That’s only if you need to know. You’re not going to tell that to somebody who’s not in the unit or not with the Bau or FBI or anything. So sabbatical felt like the safest thing to say, even if it’s not the exact truth. But she could say with honesty, Morgan’s [Shemar Moore] gone and Hotch [Thomas Gibson] is gone,...

While Criminal Minds has been back for two seasons in the rebooted Criminal Minds: Evolution, one character who finished out the regular series has been mysteriously missing. Several characters left the series early, but Matthew Gray Gubler was part of the cast til the end. With that said, he wasn’t on the team when the show returned.
The characters have hinted at him, but no one has said where he is or why he isn’t there. The showrunner for the rebooted series, Erica Messer, has at least explained where he is in real life.

"Complicated & Lousy": Paget Brewster Reflects On Original Criminal Minds Exit & Her Eventual Return
Paget Brewster reflects on leaving and returning to Criminal Minds, reminiscing on the four years she spent away from the show as a regular character. Brewster's return as Emily Prentiss has added depth to the show's evolving storylines, made all the more important because of her lengthy absence. Prentiss is a key character thanks to her leadership skills, enhancing the show's impact from the original to Criminal Minds: Evolution.
Paget Brewster, who plays Emily Prentiss on Criminal Minds, has opened up about her exit from the original show, reflecting on how she left and returned a few years later. The summer horror movie subgenre spoils us all with an embarrassment of riches, but this also means that whenever people come up with a list of recommendations, the same players make an appearance again and again. At this point, you shouldn't need an online list to tell you that "Jaws" is the ultimate July 4th viewing experience. And considering that "Midsommar," "Summer of '84," and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" have the season in the title of the movie, these are also no-brainer suggestions for summer horror movies. Summer is also the season for summer camp movies, so "Sleepaway Camp," the entire "Friday the 13th" franchise, parodies like "The Final Girls," homages like "Fear Street: 1978," and the entire roster of Cabin in the Woods horror movies are all easy picks.

Criminal Minds: Evolution's love triangle between Tyler, Garcia, and Alvez is unnecessary and distracts from the main storyline. The show's office romance execution is problematic and doesn't add anything to the overall plot, especially as Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 deals with darker themes. The unresolved love triangle needs resolution before everyone, including Tyler, returns for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3.
With Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 entering its final stretch, I am so ready for the show to end Tyler Green, Penelope Garcia, & Luke Alvez's complicated relationship. As a loyal follower of the Criminal Minds franchise even when it was still on network TV, I know that romances aren't exactly its strong suit. Thomas Gibson's return as Aaron Hotchner could improve Criminal Minds: Evolution, addressing character dynamics and potential romantic relationships. Hotch's return could provide support for Emily Prentiss amid her personal struggles in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 Showrunner Erica Messer has expressed openness to bringing back original series characters, but Gibson's past behavior may complicate his proposed Criminal Minds franchise return.
Aaron Hotchner's return can make Criminal Minds: Evolution better as highlighted by Thomas Gibson's latest comment about the police procedural. Being on CBS for 15 years was an impressive feat for the series, but it also meant that it went through a series of cast reshuffling over the years. Mandy Patinkin's departure as Jason Gideon set the precedent for this, which made it easier to accept that some characters, as beloved as they are, would only be in the project for a limited time. Many popular TV characters exhibit traits of autism, whether diagnosed or coded by writers. Characters like Spencer Reid and Sheldon Cooper display characteristics associated with autism. Representation of autism in TV has evolved, with more nuanced and realistic portrayals like Max Braverman.
Does Spencer Reid have autism or does Criminal Minds only code him that way? It's a similar question that many fans have of their favorite characters from classic TV shows. A wider understanding of autism spectrum disorders has led to more characters in film and TV exhibiting characteristics of autism and even sometimes being diagnosed in the show as on the spectrum. Reality TV has even branched into more neurodivergent programming with Love on the Spectrum. There are now many more popular characters who could be referred to as autistic than have ever been in mainstream TV.

Shemar Moore's departure from Criminal Minds as Derek Morgan was a shock to viewers, as he had become a staple of the show since the first season. The reason for Morgan's exit was simply because Shemar Moore felt it was time to move on and explore other projects after eleven seasons on the show. Despite leaving the regular cast, Moore has made multiple cameo appearances as Derek Morgan in later seasons, and there is still hope for his return in the future.
Shemar Moore's Morgan left Criminal Minds during season 11, and since he had been a staple of the Bau since the first season of the show viewers were understandably confused by his departure. The departure of a beloved character from a TV show can be a sensitive matter, and if not handled correctly, it can throw off the entire series. Characters deserve a fitting end that satisfies the audience and stays true to their arc, regardless of the reason for the actor leaving the show. It's important for TV shows to avoid clichés and tropes, such as killing off queer characters or giving characters unrealistic happy endings, in order to provide satisfying departures for their beloved characters.
On television, actors are consistently leaving and reappearing on different shows and networks, but how a series handles the absence of a beloved character doesn't always go over well. A character's death, disappearance, or farewell of any kind can feel forced and heavy-handed if it isn't part of the initial plot of the series. Personal matters must be sorted out before his potential comeback.

Fans have two clear favorites when discussing their best Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) Chief in Criminal Minds. After a 15-year stint at CBS, the profilers recently returned to the small screen via Paramount+'s Criminal Minds: Evolution. As the public waits for the sequel show's second season, fans are looking back at the show's overall run and choosing their best Unit Chief.
Taking to Twitter, Criminal Minds fans debate their picks for best Bau Chief, and looking at the tweets, Aaron Hotchner and Emily Prentiss tend to top the list. Jason Gideon lands third, which isn't that surprising considering the impact he's had on the team long after Mandy Patinkin left Criminal Minds. It's interesting, however, that fans chose the most recent Bau chiefs as their favorites, despite the way the transition from Hotch to Prentiss panned out. Check out a selection of tweets below:

Derek Morgan's return in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 has just become more likely. After its successful debut year, Paramount+ is bringing back the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) for its sophomore outing. All cast members who have returned are expected to partake in the next iteration of the police procedural. Meanwhile, despite the lack of any official update, there is still hope that both Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney can finally make their much-awaited comebacks as Dr. Spencer Reid and Ssa Matt Simmons, respectively. A brand-new update, however, suggests that another original cast member from the CBS series may end up appearing.
Played by Shemar Moore, Morgan was part of the original cast when Criminal Minds debuted in 2005. Throughout the next decade, he played an integral role in the Bau's operations. Aside from his expertise in profiling, Morgan was also notable for his strong relationship with his co-workers.

The Criminal Minds episode where Hotch's former wife Haley is killed by UnSub George Foyet, aka the Reaper, is one of the show's most memorable to date. Criminal Minds debuted in 2005 and set itself apart from other law-enforcement dramas of the time by putting a focus on a team of FBI agents profiling serial killers. This psychological angle saw the show attract a fanbase, and it rarely shied away from the darkness inherent in the subject matter. The darker side of Criminal Minds is exemplified by its range of fictional serial killers and criminals, but no other UnSub is quite as famous as The Reaper on Criminal Minds — thanks in no small part to the Criminal Minds episode where Hotch's ex-wife died.

After 12 seasons, actor Thomas Gibson was fired from Criminal Minds, with FBI Special Agent Aaron Hotchner written out of the series. The Criminal Minds’ FBI cast revolved fairly often, with most actors choosing to leave the long-lasting show behind to pursue outside interests, but this wasn’t the case for Thomas Gibson. Aaron Hotchner wasn’t officially written out until season 12, episode 6. The character went into the Witness Protection Program after a serial killer stalks his son and eventually chooses to be a full-time father to Jack rather than return to the Bau.
In 2016, Thomas Gibson was suspended from Criminal Minds due to an on-set physical altercation with one of the show’s writer-producers. After his suspension, Gibson made a public statement of regret for the incident, explaining the quarrel was based on creative differences surrounding a Criminal Minds episode he was directing.
