It should be stated right away that back in 2018 John Kricfalusi -- a.k.a. John K., the creator of "The Ren & Stimpy Show" -- was accused by two of his former employees of sexual grooming. When they were teenagers in the 1990s, John K. hired them at his animation studio Spümcø, having already engaged in inappropriate sexual chatter with them. The statute of limitations had expired on Kricfalusi's crimes, so he was never arrested, but he has stepped out of the public eye ever since. "The Ren & Stimpy Show," as was reported back in 2020, was once gearing up to be rebooted, only this time without any of Kricfalusi's input, and without him receiving any revenue. The reboot has yet to happen.
Of course, the reason why Nickelodeon wants to reboot "The Ren & Stimpy Show" is because of how overwhelmingly influential it was. John K., inspired by...

Marilyn Howard Ellman, the youngest daughter of The Three Stooges star Curly Howard, died May 6 in Simi Valley of heart failure, her son Bradley Server told The Hollywood Reporter. She was 86.
With her parents divorced and her father often on the road at the height of his career in the early 1940s, Ellman only got to visit him maybe two weekends a month, her son noted. Later, she would spend time with him in the hospital after he had suffered a series of strokes, one of which forced him to leave The Three Stooges in 1946.
“My mom vividly remembers how much he loved animals,” Server said in a 2020 interview. “She would always play with a dog he had. And he absolutely adored this dog that stood by him until the end. You know, despite my grandfather’s big personality onscreen, I learned he was actually a shy, quiet man in private.

When Mel Brooks discussed the influences that shaped his comic filmmaking with the Directors Guild of America, he didn’t name individual comedians like Charlie Chaplin or W.C. Fields. Not only did Brooks’ comedy heroes come in groups, he said, but most of them were related.
“There were three different (sets of) brothers who formed my sense of comedy timing,” he told the DGA, as reported by Far Out. “There were the Marx Brothers, and the Ritz Brothers, and then there were the Three Stooges. Those groups of men formed my sense of how many seconds it took from setup to explosion, from straight line to punch line. They were all perfect at what they did.”
The Ritz Brothers haven’t stood the test of time like the other two acts, but they were a Brooks favorite. “Harry, Jimmy and Al came from my neighborhood,” Brooks wrote in his memoir,...

Like "The Little Rascals" and "Lassie" before them, the Three Stooges were once a regular part of Saturday morning network programming.
The Three Stooges shorts date back to 1930, with the release of "Soup To Nuts," starring Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Shemp Howard. In 1932, Shemp left the act to work on solo material, and he was replaced by his younger brother Jerome Horowitz, aka Curly. The Moe-Larry-Curly lineup became the troupe's best-known, and, beginning in 1934, they began starring in a very long series of short films, starting with "The Woman Haters." The trio proceeded to star in 97 Three Stooges shorts, released through 1947.
When Curly suffered a stroke in 1946, Shemp returned to the troupe, and the Stooges continued apace. From 1947 to 1955, the Moe-Larry-Shemp lineup starred in 77 additional shorts. Shemp, sadly, passed away in 1955, and he was replaced by Joe Besser, who starred in 16 shorts with Moe and Larry. Besser's stint with the Stooges was brief,...

The Three Stooges have always, and forever will be, the kings of slapstick comedy. Originally comprised of Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Shemp Howard, the trio started as a vaudeville comedy act in the 1920s. In 1932, Shemp Howard departed from the group to pursue a solo career. Sequentially, he was replaced by Curly Howard, the younger brother of both Moe and Shemp. Thankfully, this change did not affect The Stooges' success and allowed them to comfortably transition into the film industry.
The Three Stooges short films were shot between 1934 and 1957 in association with Columbia Pictures. Despite the alternating cast members, the original black-and-white pieces are continuously revered by any comedy connoisseurs, mainly for their overly theatrical violence and clever one-liners. A handful of these one-liners turned into repeated quotes used throughout the entirety of the series, creating memorable catchphrases for fans to rejoice over at their appearance.

The Three Stooges boast a legacy as one of the most influential comedy acts ever, but the changes to their lineup breed some confusion. Its hard to overstate the importance of the Three Stooges to American comedy. Over the years, the trio put out hundreds of comedy shorts in which they occupy a variety of jobs, before causing the situation to descend into chaos with their trademark slapstick violence. The groups legacy is decades worth of some of the best comedy movies, short films, TV appearances, and even a controversial remake from the Farrelly brothers.

With the Box Office success of the live-action remakes of iconic Disney animated films like The Little Mermaid, it was only a matter of time before the first Disney princess, Snow White, was given the live-action treatment. 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a massive moment in cinema history, being the first feature-length animated film. The Snow White remake is set to release on March 25, 2025, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
However, Disney's live-action remake is not the first attempt at a live-action adaptation of the Snow White story. Throughout the last few decades, there have been several live-action interpretations. While some of these films followed the basic aspects of the Disney story, many of them interpreted the story differently, either taking inspiration from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale or adding their own interpretations to fit with the time in which it was made.

Have you ever noticed how Tommy from Rugrats sounds just like one of the Powerpuff Girls? Or that Scooby-Doo and Astro from The Jetsons speak very similar dog languages?
Hollywood’s voice-acting community is full of really talented people who can churn out a bunch of different voices, but that doesn’t mean they don’t occasionally have characters that end up sounding exactly alike (it doesn’t help that this group of performers is relatively small).
To that end, here are 10 sets of cartoon characters whose voices are practically interchangeable…

The Jetsons, which debuted as a prime-time show in 1962, is considered a classic today, but it didn’t gain that status until the 1980s when it re-debuted on Saturday mornings with new episodes. And so, when Scooby-Doo came along in 1969, six years after The Jetsons was canceled, voice actor Don Messick thought nothing of re-using Astro...

Prior to the debut of "Futurama" in 1999, preeminent voice actor Billy West was already a towering presence in his field. He had previously played Doug Funnie in the hit Nickelodeon series "Doug," in addition to voicing the Larry Fine-like Stimpson J. Cat on "The Ren & Stimpy Show" opposite show creator John Kricfalusi. When Kricfalusi was fired for missing deadlines, West took over the role, playing both leads for the bulk of the series. West also played Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in the 1996 oddity "Space Jam" and has voiced the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee and the Red M&m in myriad TV commercials.
In the normal course of seeking more work, sometime in the late '90s, West found himself in front of the casting directors for Matt Groening's and David X. Cohen's new sci-fi sitcom. West, of course, would be cast in multiple roles for "Futurama,...

The Stooges' constant cast turnover reveals personal issues and health problems that affected many of the performers. Moe Howard was the leader of the Stooges both on and off screen, and was committed to the group until his passing in 1975. Curly's shaven head and distinctive comedy style made him a fan favorite, but his declining health led to a shortened career and untimely death at the age of 48.
The Three Stooges are one of the most influential comedy groups in history, but their confusing membership calls for some clarification. The trio existed, in one form or another, for nearly 50 years. The need to keep earning money was partly influenced by the treacherous business practices of Columbia Pictures, who kept the performers on a fixed salary, keeping the massive profits from the shorts and never telling the Stooges just how popular they had become throughout their 24-year tenure at the studio.

The Three Stooges produced 190 short comedy films over five decades, with Moe Howard and Larry Fine remaining consistent for nearly 50 years. Some of the Stooges' sketches, like "You Nazty Spy!" and "They Stooge to Conga," used humor to highlight political and social issues of the time. The Stooges' physical comedy shines in sketches like "Punch Drunks" and "A Plumbing We Will Go," where their absurd plotlines lead to hilarious destruction.
The Three Stooges were active in Hollywood for five decades, producing 190 short comedy films that vary in quality. Over time, the Stooges' lineup changed on multiple occasions, though Moe Howard and Larry Fine remained consistent for nearly 50 years. In 1934, the trio of Moe Howard, Curly Howard, and Larry Fine signed a deal with Columbia Pictures, which would become their home to produce both short films and feature movies throughout their careers, reaching popularity in the era that few comedy groups have ever achieved.

Bring up Golden Age Hollywood filmmaker Busby Berkeley, and most people conjure his staging of elaborate, kaleidoscopic dance numbers in such films as “Dames” and “Footlight Parade,” Ginger Rogers singing “We’re in the Money” at the height of the Depression in “Gold Diggers of 1933,” or his sinuous camera weaving through dancer’s legs in such hits as Oscar-nominated “42nd Street” (1933).
A three-time Oscar nominee (for Best Dance Direction), Berkeley’s musicals were credited with saving Warner Bros. from financial collapse before he became a key player in Arthur Freed’s unit at MGM, where he propelled the careers of numerous stars, including Rogers, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Gene Kelly. Behind the scenes, Berkeley’s life was darker and often tragic — beset by scandal and numerous brushes with the law.

The 2021 Netflix drama The Starling focuses on a couple's grief over losing their baby, and the setting plays an important part in the characters moving forward with their lives. While Jack Maynard (Chris O'Dowd) is staying at a hospital, his wife, Lilly (Melissa McCarthy), finds a bird outside of her home, which sets her on a journey of finding a way to cope with their infant passing away as a result of Sids. There are a few main locations, including the supermarket where Lilly works and the beautiful house she lives in.
The actors are known for more comedic fare, although McCarthy has appeared in dramatic movies such as Can You Ever Forgive Me? They co-starred in two previous films: Bridesmaids in 2011 and St. Vincent in 2014. When Peter Bogdanovich was twelve-years-old, he began keeping a record of every film he saw, even including reviews, a practice he kept up for decades, seeing as many as four hundred films a year. This sparked a love of movies and he was intent on becoming a director. Bogdanovich caught his break when he happened to strike up a conversation with Roger Corman at a screening, who quickly offered him a job.

It's hard to understate just how revolutionary John Kricfalusi's "The Ren & Stimpy Show" was to the world of animation. Having worked on stultifying commercial products throughout the 1980s, John K., as he is better known, longed for the old, wilder, more creative days of Termite Terrace (the nickname for Warner Bros. Pictures' animation department from the 1930s through the 1950s). He particularly admired Bob Clampett and aimed to make stranger, more grotesque cartoons. The '80s were a time of product-based cartoon shows like "Transformers," "My Little Pony," and "Alvin and the Chipmunks." Such shows were seemingly only green-lit if they had pre-existing "marquee value" or a product to sell.
The airing of "The Ren & Stimpy Show" kicked the door open for a new generation of creator-based cartoon shows. Original ideas began flooding the marketplace in earnest in the early '90s and cynical, product-forward cartoons series fell by the wayside.

If you can get all worked up about a somewhat aggressive little bird that, to the annoyance of homeowner Melissa McCarthy, has decided to take up residence in a tree on her property, you’re welcome to The Starling, an astonishingly treacly film that’s meant to be inspirational but is something close to agony to sit through. Mawkish and reliant upon platitudes in the absence of genuine feeling and anything resembling filmmaking style, director Theodore Melfi’s first feature since the massively successful Hidden Figures in 2016 is a testament to banality that Netflix decided was worth $20 million to acquire. The Starling made its debut at the Toronto Film Festival and if something like this this is now considered worthy of a major festival slot, the world has changed. Can we blame Covid for this too?

Let’s get this out of the way: The eponymous bird at the center of “The Starling” isn’t real, though the emotions he stirs in the people around him is. If that’s not the set-up for a quirky mid-budget feel-good feature, well, what is? The kind of throwback dramedy that streamers should be making these days — because the studios sure aren’t — the Melissa McCarthy-starring film will likely charm the feathers off its audience when it hits Netflix, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good. It is, however, something few contemporary films dare to be: both satisfying and self-contained.
There’s no wider Starling Expanded Universe out there — bad news for a bossy blackbird that appears in the film’s opening credits — and while the finality of the film’s conclusion doesn’t entirely feel earned, there’s something charming about this fairy tale-esque story...

As the headlines get darker and darker with almost every day, many are finding comfort in looking back on the TV shows and characters they enjoyed as kids. One of the most celebrated of those shows is the focus of this new feature documentary, which begins streaming just a few days after the big announcement of a revival. It’s deserving of the doc treatment because it was a landmark, becoming a real turning point for the medium. Historians often point to “touchstones” in cinema often making note of the first “talkie”, the first color film, and so on. The same can be done with theatrical animation via a timeline: 1928 first sound cartoon short, 1937 first feature-length cartoon, and into the rise of Pixar. And the same can be done for it’s “lowly cousin”, TV animation. This doc’s focus was neatly squeezed in, between the return of prime-time animation...

“Jojo Rabbit” dares to be a slice of Third Reich hipster whimsy about an awkward lad and budding 10-year-old Hitler youth (Roman Griffin Davis), whose faithful imaginary companion is none other than a rather buffoonish iteration of Der Fuhrer himself. As played by the dark satire’s half-Jewish writer/director Taika Waititi in khaki pantaloons and askew mini-mustache, this demented dictator starts out as a goofy father substitute who encourages Jojo to be a good Nazi as he struggles to learn such skills as killing rabbits and throwing a grenade – an act that ends rather badly. But by the end, this alt-world Adolf grows resentful that his reign in the real life has come to an end while Jojo literally gives the hateful being the heave-ho and banishes him from his life forever.

The Motion Picture and Television Fund’s (Mptf) Giving Day — a 24-hour fundraiser — will take place on Sept. 26, followed by an open house with Emmy-winning television host Tom Bergeron as master of ceremonies on Sept. 28.
Giving Day aims to raise at least $100,000 for the more than 50 services the Mptf provides for the entertainment community, including crisis intervention, child care and financial assistance. Donations can be made online for 24 hours on Sept. 26. Additionally, Warner Bros. will be matching their employee gifts for the day.
“This Giving Day will be a kickoff of fundraising activities and interest-building activities and awareness activities over the next 18 months. We really are focused on galvanizing the support of unions, guilds and the studios,” says organization CEO Bob Beitcher.
Those activities will lead into the organization’s 100th anniversary in 2021, when a fundraising campaign commemorating the centennial will be launched. Beitcher intends to formally announce the campaign later this year.

The Best of The Three Stooges

Time-Life
1934 – 1959 / 1.33:1 / Over 45 Hours (!)/ Street Date – June 6, 2018
Starring Moe Howard, Curly Howard, Larry Fine, Joe DeRita
Cinematography by Benjamin Kline, Gert Andersen, Ray Cory
Directed by Jules White
Garden variety slapstick has always been fraught with physical peril but The Three Stooges took the concept to medieval levels, their persona defined by equal parts vaudeville and the Spanish Inquisition.
With clothes seemingly hijacked from clotheslines and manners borrowed from feral raccoons, the scrappy trio were nothing if not street survivors – always on the dole or making do with hardscrabble day jobs. Their raw brand of comedy, all simmering anger and violent outbursts, was the embodiment of depression-era resentment.
Ticket buyers loved them, so much so that Columbia president Harry Cohn used them as a bargaining chip when striking deals with hungry theater owners – if exhibitors wanted The Three Stooges, they were stuck with Blondie Plays Cupid.

A frenetic mix of baggy-pants vaudeville and the Spanish Inquisition, the eye-poking exploits of The Three Stooges have appalled faint-hearted sophisticates and overprotective mothers for close to a century.
The team’s lowdown influence still lingers – not in the brutal roughhousing demonstrated by the lads in their most frantic moments but in their low class assault on upper class sensibilities – from the semen-sculpted hair-do of the Farrelly Brothers’s There’s Something About Mary to Johnny Knoxville’s Jackass to the mortifying contagion of diarrhea suffered by Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids, the Stooge abides.

Hey, "Big Brother" fans. We've got another Celebrity Big Brother USA casting rumor for you guys. We know a lot of you just want to hear something official from CBS already. Unfortunately, we don't expect to hear anything from them until like maybe a week before the show starts. So, these rumor reports are all we have to go on to provide any sort of insight until CBS or the Big brother producers decide to chime in with anything. With that said, this latest rumor comes from the folks over at Radaronline.com. After they reported this latest rumor, a ton of other media outlets jumped on board. They're claiming that former MTV "Jersey Shore" reality star Sammi Giancola is rumored to have joined the cast. Her nickname was "Sweetheart" on Jersey Shore. We don't know exactly why she was given that nickname. It might have been because she was...

That being said, here’s a list of over 100 horror and sci-fi themed enamel pins that we discovered online, and we guarantee there’s absolutely something for every genre fan out there, so if you need some stocking stuffer or holiday gift ideas, look no further!
Do keep in mind that in most cases, what you see below is only a partial listing of each site’s inventory, so I recommend digging around each online store for all kinds of goodies, because there are some truly amazing enamel pin designs out there (I could have easily done a list of 200, but my sanity won out).

Aaron Sorkin has seen it all in Hollywood, but the current climate on sexual assault has him uneasy. Mel Gibson admits that he couldn't keep up with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg on the set of Daddy's Home 2. Ferrell is known to adlib a lot on set and according to Gibson, Ferrell and Wahlberg are really good at adlibbing on the spot together, often leaving him in the dust. Mel Gibson even admitted to being "intimidated" by the natural comedic talents of the duo who have starred in more than one movie together. It's a far cry from some of the Three Stooges references that Gibson would pepper into the Lethal Weapon franchise.
While speaking to New! magazine, Mel Gibson compared Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell to Chinese ping pong players, which might not have been the wisest comparison, but hey, it's his life. Gibson had this to say.
"I was lost. They left me behind. I felt like a spectator at a Beijing Ping Pong match...

You know the old saying: One’s man’s trash is another man’s treasure. That applies to me and my pals so often.
Now, I realize I’m very blessed: I have a great bunch of friends. I share interests and/or a long history with each them. I guess that’s part of the definition of a friend. But we don’t all love the same stuff. And when it comes to Geek Culture, a bunch of my friends just aren’t that into it.
I pity those fools as I flip through the latest PaperGirls.
Freddie P is that type of friend. He’s a long-time pal. We grew up in the same small town, kept in touch through college and lived near another in those wild just-a-few-years-outta-college days. After that, we always stayed in touch. We’ve watched each other’s families grow up. We laughed...

Here’s how one pushed the limits of good taste in 1974. James Caan and Alan Arkin run the gamut of racist, raunchy, sexist & homophobic jokes as bad boy cops breaking the rules, and director Richard Rush delivers some impressive, expensive action stunts on location in San Francisco. Does it get a pass because it’s ‘outrageous?’ The public surely thought so. If the star chemistry works the excess won’t matter. With Valerie Harper, Loretta Swit and Jack Kruschen.

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. There's a brief, very beautiful moment in Part 7 of the new Twin Peaks, during the scene in which hotelier Benjamin Horne (Richard Beymer) and his secretary Beverly Paige (Ashley Judd) are investigating a strange sound emanating from the walls of the Great Northern. Ben points in the direction that he thinks the soft, soothing tone is coming from, and for a second he seems to be pointing right at the camera—past it, really…toward our world, at those of us on the other side of the fiction/fact divide. A blink-and-you'll-miss-it breach, but it lays some subtle groundwork for what follows: The aesthetically and thematically provocative Part 8 fitted the Twin Peaks mythos into our very real history of atomic destruction. And this week's...

It's with great sorrow that I report fan-favorite Batman star Adam West has passed away. He was 88 years old and he died after a short battle with leukemia. His family offered the following statement:
“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero."
A spokesperson for the actor added:
“A true American icon and beloved father and husband, he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and millions of fans around the world."
I grew up watching reruns of the original 1960's Batman series and I've always enjoyed seeing him pop up in other films and TV shows over the years. It's so sad to hear that he's passed on, but he's left behind a legacy of greatness.

Adam West, one of the most enduring pop culture figures of the 1960s, has passed away at age 88 after a battle with leukemia. West was a hunky young actor laboring in bit parts in films such as "The Young Philadelphians", "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" and co-starring with the Three Stooges in their last feature film "The Outlaws is Coming!" when he got the opportunity to audition for the role of Batman in ABC's new TV series. The essence of the show was that it would be played as a broad comedy. West impressed the producers with his ability to pretend his character wasn't in on the joke. West played Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne as stalwart, incorrupt heroes. He approved young Burt Ward to play the role of Robin despite not having any previous acting experience. Variety is reporting that Adam West, star of the 60's television show Batman as well as his voice work on shows such as Family Guy, has died at the age of 88. He passed away after a short battle with leukemia.
I first became aware of Adam West when reruns of Batman hit the airwaves soon after the 1989 film. His deadpan take on Bruce Wayne and Batman were quite different to the tone that the modern movies took. The show was intended to make you smile at the camp and silliness you saw on screen. What made it work for me was the seriousness the actors brought to the roles. Adam West got the most laughs as Batman by playing it straight.
Mr. West faced the woes of typecasting that such an iconic role could bring onto an actor. He found work through voice over roles and through personal appearances which kept the money rolling in.

Five years ago this weekend Tim Burton’s updating of Dark Shadows, the gothic/horror-themed soap opera which ran from 1966 to 1971 on ABC and was a seminal influence on a generation of budding horror fans (including Burton), was released on American movie screens, one weekend after Marvel’s The Avengers was still dictating the imaginations (and the wallets) of moviegoers everywhere. Given Burton’s track record with horror comedies (Beetlejuice being the primary example) and collaborations with Johnny Depp (Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands), a surprisingly low number of ticket-buyers seemed ultimately to care—the movie, which cost $150 million to make, and undoubtedly a hefty chunk of change more than that to market, would earn back only slightly more than half of that in the United States, though its final take globally came in at around $235 million. There were a few takers among critics, notably...

The action comedy about…heavily damaged Vietnam vets?
Lethal Weapon often gets heralded at the preeminent buddy cop film, despite the fact that the genre existed for decades prior to its 1987 release. So what makes Lethal Weapon the mold-breaker? Is it (then) wunderkind Shane Black’s razor-sharp script? The legendary cast? The quotable quips? Or is that so many members of the audience identified with the characters because they too possibly felt a general sense of being too old for life’s shit?
How about the fact that Lethal Weapon is the Apocalypse Now of buddy cop movies? It’s true, Shane Black’s script is just as concerned with the heavily damaged psyches of Vietnam War veterans as was Apocalypse Now’s. Nearly every major character in Lethal Weapon, hero and villain alike, served in Vietnam and came back with a hefty amount of baggage. Before we mention Invisible Scarlet O’Neil, let’s expend a few words on an ethereal being – maybe that should be Ethereal Being – who dwells in some vast realm beyond the clouds: Zion. The Ethereal Being I refer to is called an editor and he is a veritable creature of Gold. Last year, when Americans were in a colossal fuss over who was to be elected to their presidency, the Eb told us, my colleagues and I, that maybe we should take it easy on the political stuff because this – this, what you’re reading – is not a site devoted to politics but, rather, to pop culture. Being made of gold, the Eb must be obeyed and so he was and is, even as I type.

Full-Motion Video games were a mid- to late-1990s fad that were either semi-playable movies (where you shot at bad guys running on screen) or incorporated live-action cutscenes into otherwise animated games. They’re usually all as silly as you’d imagine, either aimed at a younger audience delighted to watch some over-the-top fantasy or an older audience wowed by the possibilities of technology. It seems like the perfect home for character actors and infomercial escapees to camp it up with little career risk and some quick cash, right?
The weird thing is how many A-list actors — or at least people you’d never expect — appeared in these games. What’s even weirder is how crazy most of their roles were. Nobody’s a heartfelt dramatic lead, they...

Celebrating 30 years worth of fanaticism and community in the cult of Ashley ‘Ash’ Williams.
Thanks to our Star Trekian utopia of VOD insta-satisfaction (“Number One, slap The Greasy Strangler on the view screen!”), it’s becoming difficult to remember the ruthless savagery of that bygone VHS hunt. I spent far too many days roaming my hometown and neighboring cities chasing down lesser-known Kurosawas, the Critters sequels, and the seemingly always elusive pre-Mad Max apocalyptic mindfuck, A Boy and His Dog. Too often I had to settle for less, and rewatch Police Academy 4 instead of the highbrow hilarity of Zapped! cuz some other Scott Baio devotee had the local Power Video on stakeout.
