The Creep: Christopher Smith’s reboot of 2004 film Creep comes to Shudder in 2026
Christopher Smith at an event for Severance (2006)
Back in 2004, Christopher Smith made his feature writing and directing debut with the horror film Creep, which starred Franka Potente as a young woman who discovers a hideously deformed cannibal living in the London Underground. A few weeks ago, we learned that Smith is set to direct a reboot of his film – and since another horror franchise has taken over the name Creep, this reboot is called The Creep. Now, Deadline reports that the Shudder streaming service has acquired the North American distribution rights to the film, which will be released sometime in 2026.

Production on The Creep is scheduled to take place in the UK this fall. Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy), Andy Nyman (Wicked) and rapper Aitch have signed on to star in the film, which will (as expected) be set in London’s shadowy underground. The story follows a struggling artist (Jobson) forced to return to her criminal drug-running past.

Hidden Real-Life Connection to Matt Damon’s The Bourne Identity That Will Blow Your Mind!
Image
Is there a real life connection with Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne?(Photo Credit –Netflix)

Diehard movie buffs already know that the Matt Damon-starrer action thriller movie ‘The Bourne Identity’ was based on Robert Ludlum’s 1980 novel bearing the same name. In the movie and the novel, the central character is Jason Bourne, who is equipped with outstanding survival skills despite not remembering anything from his past.

What if we told you that there existed a real person whose name was eerily similar to Jason Bourne, and he also suffered from a rare memory-related condition? Read on to know the super interesting details.

The Real-Life Bourne Story – Ansel Bourne

One day in the year 1887, a preacher mysteriously disappeared from Rhode Island and reappeared in Pennsylvania. He assumed the name A.J. Brown and set up a small confectionery shop there. Two months later, when he woke up utterly confused in the morning,...

If You Thought Matt Damon Fighting With a Pen in Bourne Was Badass, Wait Till You See Queen Latifah Destroy Goons With Her Scarf
Image
In the 2000s, Matt Damon’s The Bourne Identity, for better or worse, revolutionized the action landscape with its emphasis on shaky cam. Although many action flicks attempted to replicate this formula, most became unbridled messes because of overly rapid editing, followed by confusing use of shaky cams.

However, the Bourne IP can’t be blamed for the string of underwhelming action flicks that haphazardly tried to bank on the Damon-led franchise’s proven formula. The original trilogy remains a treat to the eye. But since the 2010s, many action projects have introduced their unique charm to the genre, including Queen Latifah’s The Equalizer, which has been popping off recently.

“Cowboys and Trains Kind of Go Together”: ‘Dark Winds’ Showrunner Explains That Season 3 Finale Shootout
Image
Dark Winds rode the rails in its third-season finale, as Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) chased down a murderer making his way out of town on a train. In a new Hollywood Reporter interview with Dark Winds showrunner John Wirth and director Chris Eyre, they revealed the reasoning behind the Wild West-style showdown. Not only did it tie in with the show's Western themes, but one of the show's executive producers happened to own a locomotive.

The series finale is titled "Béésh Łį́į́ (Iron Horse)," a reference to the nickname for the steam engines that "tamed" the West. Says Wirth, who previously worked on AMC's Western series Hell on Wheels, "You know, cowboys and trains kind of go together, and in a neo-Western like this one, it felt like there would be a train." And where did they get the train? George R. R. Martin,...

‘Havoc’ Review: In Gareth Evans’ Dark, Destructive Netflix Outing, Only Tom Hardy’s Reputation Remains Unscathed
Image
At first, “Havoc” sounds like just another one of those generic, one-word titles Hollywood slaps on action movies to convey a terse, efficient shoot-’em-up. Why give such projects a long-winded name like “A Clear and Present Danger” or “Every Which Way but Loose” when you can find something punchy like “Taken,” “Crank” or “Drive”? Look it up in the dictionary, however, and “havoc” doesn’t simply mean “devastation” (of which there is plenty in “The Raid” director Gareth Evans’ excessively violent Netflix outing), but also some mix of confusion, mayhem and all-around disorder (which spoils whatever fun a couple over-the-top set-pieces deliver).

Looking worse for wear than Bruce Willis’ tank top at the end of “Die Hard,” Tom Hardy fully commits to the walking stereotype that is Walker, the least bad cop working Christmas Eve in a city that a) doesn’t exist, b) seems to be modeled on...

10 Perfect Spy Movies That Are Flawless From Beginning to End
Image
Espionage is perfect for movies, where filmmakers get to go between heart-pounding action sequences, tense negotiations and the drama of how living with leading lives of deception can make the people thrown into these situations lose their sense of reality. Spy films have been a staple of Hollywood movie-making for decades, dominating at the box office and with critics since the beginning of film history.

Some of the best spy movies of all time are the ones that are able to perfectly display the high risk and even higher stakes of being an undercover operative, whether that is focused on the more dramatic elements of talking their way out of a dangerous situation or being forced to fight their way to the answers they need. The most flawless movies in this genre are the ones that make audiences feel like they are along for the ride.

Did 'Castlevania: Nocturne' Just Introduce Its Next Big Bad in the Season 2 Finale?
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2.Castlevania: Nocturne's second season launches straight into the building confrontation, continuing the story of Erzsebet Báthory's (Franka Potente) growing power, Alucard's (Richard Dormer) arrival, and Richter (Edward Bluemel), Annette (Thuso Mbedu), and Maria's (Pixie Davies) efforts to stop her. Yet, a few elements not from Season 1 play a role in the story, and the most mysterious addition is the silent and frightening Mephistopheles. In truth, the shadowy figure does little in the plot, but he contributes a level of creepiness to every scene he is in. Always appearing near death, Mephistopheles has many names. While Olrox (Zahn McClarnon), who sees him the most, refers to him as Old Man Coyote, Mizrak (Aaron Neil) calls him a devil, but whatever he is called, he seems dangerous.

What Do the Three Versions of Sekhmet From ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Mean?

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2.The second season of Castlevania: Nocturne, the sequel to Netflix's original Castlevania series, concludes with its heroes successfully defeating Countess Erzsebet Báthory (Franka Potente), a self-proclaimed Vampire Messiah intent upon plunging the world into eternal darkness. To call the conflict a hard-won victory is an understatement, especially since Nocturne's protagonists couldn't have triumphed without special intervention. Thanks to Annette (Thuso Mbedu), the soul of Sekhmet (Nicola F. But why is Sekhmet such an integral part of Erzsebet's bloodthirsty plans?...

Picking up where Season 1 left off, Maria is in a bad place after her father, the Abbot (Richard Dormer), tried to sacrifice her to the vampires only for her mother, Tera (Nastassja Kinski), to take her place, getting turned into a vampire herself. Warning: This interview contains heavy spoilers for all of Season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne.Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 dropped on Netflix this weekend, bringing the latest chapter of the animated vampire-slaying saga to fans worldwide. The new season picks up immediately after Season 1 ended, with famed vampire hunter Richter Belmont (Edward Bluemel) and his magical allies Annette (Thuso Mbedu) and Maria (Pixie Davies) finding themselves quickly in need of a new plan after they, quite frankly, got their butts handed to them by the vampire queen Erzsebet (Franka Potente) in last season's finale.

All 4 Belmonts in 'Castlevania' and 'Castlevania: Nocturne,' Ranked
Image
Castlevania and its spin-off/sequel, Castlevania: Nocturne, are among the finest animated efforts we've had from Netflix. The shows, based on the popular Japanese video game series of the same name courtesy of Konami, are well-known for their distinctive anime-inspired, imperfect, and striking animation and dark narratives that aren't afraid to address complex issues in service of a traditional monster-hunting story. Both series center on the Belmont Clan of vampire hunters. The original Castlevania takes place in the mid-14th century and follows Trevor Belmont's (Richard Armitage) efforts to protect Walachia, modern-day Romania, from Dracula (Graham McTavish) and other vampire threats. Nocturne is set three hundred years later in French Revolution France and follows Trevor's descendant, Richter Belmont (Edward Bluemel), as he battles Erzsebet Bathory (Franka Potente), the so-called "vampire messiah."...

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 Makes The Show's Biggest Mystery Even More Confusing
Image
"Castlevania: Nocturne" season 2 sets up a lot of interesting threads for a potential season 3 and wraps up most of the big arcs from season 1. At the same time, the show hasn't fully answered one of its biggest mysteries, which has to do with the new kind of night creatures created by Abbott Emmanuel (Richard Dormer).

In the original "Castlevania" series, night creatures are created by devil forgemasters, human sorcerers who use a specific breed of dark magic to channel souls from hell into dead bodies, transforming them into monstrous creatures. These forgemasters each channel their spells through a specific, unique tool, and the monsters they create are loyal to them. In most cases, the souls channeled into the night creatures don't seem to be the same ones that the bodies housed in life, but there are some apparent exceptions to that rule. In general, though, night creatures are shown to be pretty mindless.

Juste Belmont plays a big role in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 after being introduced in the first season. With Castlevania: Nocturne set hundreds of years after Castlevania, the sequel series would have the chance to explore not only its lead Belmont character but also some of his ancestors. In the first episode of Castlevania: Nocturne, we are briefly introduced to Julia Belmont, who is killed by Olrox in front of her son, Richter. While Richter’s revenge took a backseat amid bigger problems, his lineage continued to be an important part of the story in season 2.

With Erzsebet Báthory and Drolta Tzuentes closer than ever to achieving their goals, the Castlevania: Nocturne characters had to join forces to avoid Sehkmet’s return. How Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 Sets Up A Symphony Of The Night Adaptation Next
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Castlevania: Nocturne" season 2.

If you count both shows as one, Netflix's "Castlevania" franchise has been running for six seasons and eight years, with "Castlevania: Nocturne" season 2 marking the latest entry in the stylish video game adaptation from Powerhouse Animation. And yet, in all that time, the shows have left the most beloved and critically acclaimed "Castlevania" game untouched. "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" completely reinvented the property when it dropped on the original PlayStation and Sega Saturn back in 1997. Now, with the way things wrap up at the end of "Nocturne" season 2, fans could finally be getting a proper adaptation of that legendary game ... assuming the show gets renewed by Netflix.

Writing on X in October 2024, series director Samuel Deats confirmed that the show was "going on hiatus until release and we find out if we're getting renewed," adding, "if you want to see...

‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Returns With More Bite, Blood & Brutality in Superior Season 2 [Review]
Image
Castlevania: Nocturne works out its freshman growing pains with a more focused and emotionally powerful second season that’s rich in monsters, mayhem, and dark magic.

“Despair will rot you from the inside out.”

Castlevania was an incredibly consistent animated action series for Netflix that helped kickstart the streaming service’s impressive track record with video game adaptations. Castlevania reached great heights that made it far more than just a vampire series or video game adaptation and the end of its run after four seasons was met with disappointment. However, the announcement of a spin-off that’s immersed in the lore of Rondo of Blood had many excited for the Castlevania universe’s expansion. Unfortunately, Castlevania: Nocturne’s first season was decent, but forgettable. It was perfectly fine, which is not exactly the benchmark that one strives for with a spin-off to a series that was so subversive and passionate.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Season 2 TV Review: More gothic melodrama starring Alexandra Daddario
Image
Plot: Season two of Mayfair Witches continues the journey of Rowan Mayfair after she has unwittingly given birth to the demon Lasher. She is determined to understand what he has become – human or monster? – and to use him to fulfill her purpose as a healer, but when tragedy strikes, she must put aside her own desires and fight to protect her family.

Review: In 2024, AMC delivered a fantastic second season of their updated take on Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire. Concluding with where the first novel in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles ended and setting the stage for the third season to adapt the novel The Vampire Lestat, AMC’s other adaptation from the prolific author’s vast library continues to build a larger shared universe with the second season of Mayfair Witches. Also set in New Orleans, Mayfair Witches debuted in 2023 with a glimpse into the sorcery and...

The actor can certainly pull off anything thrown his way, even if it means he will have to play a character that is more action than words. We don’t see Matt Damon talking much in the Bourne films and while lead actors usually need to be pretty expressive with their words, keeping talking to a minimum actually...

10 High-Octane Spy Movies That Can Compete With James Bond
Image
Slick suits, high-octane stunts, and fiery explosions are all must-haves for any good spy movie hoping to compete with the James Bond franchise. In fact, if these elements aren’t in an espionage film, it's probably not worth watching in the first place. Specific aspects of plot, dialogue, and character portrayal further fuel the intensity of these super-charged cinematic feats. However, the staples of the spy genre must be in place for such things to land.

For decades, the James Bond Franchise has capitalized on a formula that proves successful over and over. Bond is the center of this enterprise, but many contenders have rolled up to the party with their own license to thrill. Boasting everything from gritty realism to ridiculous gadgets (even more outrageous than James Bond's toys), films like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Atomic Blonde have stolen the spotlight from 007.

The Bourne Identity (2002) The James...

The True Story Behind the Bourne Book Trilogy's Main Villain
Image
Few franchises have proved as influential on the action genre as the original Bourne trilogy did in the early 2000s. Based on the beloved novels by Robert Ludlum, the films proved a drastic shift for spy thrillers, which most at the time associated with the campy aesthetic of 007. Doug Limans work on The Bourne Identity and especially Paul Greengrasss work on the second and third installments felt dark and gritty, which was particularly refreshing in a pre-Batman Begins world. Within a decade, action films were defined by quick cutting, shaky camerawork, and hand-to-hand combat, for both better and worse.

Considering how thoroughly the films popularity has eclipsed that of Robert Ludlum, its probably surprising to learn how different the books actually are. The Bourne Identity makes some changes in compressing the cast of characters but mostly stays true to the books spirit, while Supremacy and Ultimatum can be called adaptations in name only.
