Sean “Diddy” Combs scored a major legal victory this week as he managed to avoid the most serious of the sex trafficking and racketeering allegations in his criminal trial, leaving those in the music business questioning how an industry with a notoriously murky past in handling abusive behavior is going to move forward.

Russell Simmons has sued HBO and the filmmakers who made the Max original documentary “On the Record,” which examines the sexual assault allegations against the hip-hop and business mogul.

The lawsuit, which demands $20 million in damages and has been obtained by TheWrap, claims the doc defamed him and disregarded evidence he and his legal team presented to the entertainment company — proof he said supports his side of the alleged incidents. The film from Amy Ziering and Kirby Dick premiered on HBO’s streaming platform in 2020.

On Tuesday, Simmons’ lawyer, Imran Ansari, filed a four-page summons in New York’s Supreme Court. In the document, Ansari wrote that Ziering and Dick “disregard and/or suppressed” details of the alleged incidents. His team stated that these details were offered to then-WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey and chairman/CEO of HBO and Max Content Casey Bloys, as well as the company’s board members.

Today, with court filings certain to follow, it didn’t take Warner Bros Discovery that long at all to respond to Simmons’ $20 million defamation suit against On the Record – and give no quarter.

“We dispute Mr. Simmons’ allegations, stand by the filmmakers and their process, and will vigorously defend ourselves against these unfounded allegations, a Wbd spokesperson told Deadline this morning, as a new round of layoffs hit the company’s cable TV units.

Maybe the Bali-residing Simmons will even show up in court to press his own case vigorously against that vigorous defense.

Warner Bros. Discovery has been sued by Russell Simmons, who alleges that the filmmakers behind On the Record defamed him by turning a blind eye to evidence disputing accusations that he sexually assaulted women in his orbit.

While attending the show’s premiere on Thursday (February 13), Kate was asked if her famous family, which includes musician partner Danny Fujikawa, parents Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, and brothers Oliver Hudson and Wyatt Russell, who are all actors, would ever take part in a family reality series.

Fashion designer and former reality TV star Kimora Lee Simmons has been trying to tell the world about the dark side of Sean "Diddy" Combs for the past two decades, and now, the world is finally listening. The mother of five told the press about an altercation she had with Diddy in 2004, and it's only now that people are starting to hear her out.

In November 2023, Diddy's former partner of ten years, Cassie Ventura, sued him for $30 million for sexual and physical abuse. The two settled for an undisclosed amount. Nearly a year later, USA Today reported the rapper has over 120 claims coming his way after countless allegations of sex trafficking, racketeering, physical and sexual abuse, and transportation to solicit prostitution. Kimora's story is just the cherry on top of a long list of assertions against the disgraced music mogul.

Diddy’s infamous parties were just as well known as him, and over the years, rumors swirled about them being extravagant, and often scandalous. Daniel Zirilli, a prolific director, producer and writer of action films and more than 200 music videos including the Rolling Stones’ “Voodoo Lounge,” died April 28. He was 58.

His death was announced by his family. No cause was disclosed, but an Instagram message posted by his daughter Talise Zirilli last weekend indicated that he had been missing since April 24.

Born November 13, 1965, Zirilli founded Popart Film Factory at age 24 after graduating from Pepperdine University in Malibu. In the subsequent years, he would direct and writer more than 30 feature films, most in the action and thriller genres. He was a producer on more than 85 films.

Among his most recent, Zirilli directed, produced and co-wrote Invincible, released by Lionsgate in 2022. Shot on location in Thailand, Invincible starred Johnny Strong, Marko Zaror and Michael Pare, who also appeared in Zirilli’s Hollow Point (2019) along with Luke Goss and Jay Mohr.

Aoki Lee Simmons went viral this past weekend when she debuted her relationship with the much-older businessman and restaurateur Vittorio Assaf, but they’ve already split according to insiders.

The 21-year-old model, who is the daughter of Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, was spotted kissing and flaunting Pda with Vittorio, 65, during a beach day in St. Barts.

Sources told People that the two were really dating, adding, “Aoki and Vittorio are spending time together and enjoying each others’ company.”

Russell Simmons has been sued for defamation for allegedly trying to undermine sexual assault accusations made against him.

Drew Dixon, a former Def Jam Recordings executive who alleges she was raped by the music mogul in 1995, claims in a lawsuit filed on Thursday in New York’s state Supreme Court that Simmons engaged in a “concerted and malicious campaign to discredit” her with the aim of undercutting her rape accusations. Among other statements, Simmons said in an interview on a podcast in December, “Could someone want notoriety in the market where people thirst for fame” and “I’ve never been forceful in any of my relationships,” all of which were “consensual.”
