Cynthia Erivo praises Sisqó’s ‘Thong Song’ as an unexpected, high-energy vocal gem
Image
Cynthia Erivo highlights Sisqó’s surprising ‘Thong Song’ for its impressive vocal technique and unique energy.

Cynthia Erivo has surprised many by choosing the iconic ‘Thong Song’ by Sisqó as one of her favourites due to its remarkable vocal performance. The acclaimed singer and actress – winner of Emmy, Grammy, and Tony awards – has praised the track as an example of unexpected vocal talent in a song with simple lyrics and an unusual theme.

In a recent interview, Erivo explained that while Sisqó’s song may seem light-hearted or even irreverent, the vocal technique on display is extraordinary. She especially praised the energy and vocal control in the final section of the track, where Sisqó demonstrates a level of vocal mastery that many might overlook. According to Erivo, the passion and joy the singer conveys make it a brilliant vocal performance.

Alongside ‘Thong Song’, Cynthia Erivo also mentioned other vocal performances she deeply admires,...

Y2K Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play
Image
Warning: Contains minor Spoilers for Y2K!

A24's Y2K has finally been released, and here is every song that is featured in the film and when they play. Director Kyle Mooney is behind A24's newest sci-fi comedy, with the film following a group of friends who have to survive a robot apocalypse after the Y2K computer bug turns out to be real. On top of being a post-apocalyptic comedy, Y2K also acts as a great throwback to the year 1999. The film is full of all kinds of pop culture references, with Y2K's soundtrack of late-90s music being one of the best parts of the film.

The music is core to the story of A24's Y2K, with most of the songs in the film's soundtrack having an in-universe story justification for appearing. The film features a lot of notable songs from some...

‘The Masked Singer’ First Look Features Explosive, Moody Cover of Bastille’s ‘Pompeii’ By Celebrity in ‘Ship’ Costume (Exclusive)
Image
“The Masked Singer” is back later this month, and Variety has the first look at one of the opening performances — as well as a reveal of two more costumes. First up, here’s “Ship,” who performs a slowed down, moody version of Bastille’s “Pompeii” in the season premiere episode airing Wednesday, Sept 25th on Fox.

And then, there are two more costume reveals: “Leaf Sheep” and “Woodpecker,” who join “Ship” and the previously revealed “Chess Piece.”

Chess Piece, “The Masked Singer”

New this season, clues will be “strategically embedded in costumes, in song choices and on-stage moments.” And the fifteen celebrity contestants will be endorsed by a “celebrity Masked Ambassador,” made up of previous participants including Dick Van Dyke (Season 9’s Gnome), Jewel (Season 6 winner as the Queen of Hearts), Ne-yo (Season 10 winner as the Cow) and DeMarcus Ware (Season 11’s Koala).

As previously announced, “The Masked Singer” returns...

‘The Masked Singer’ Finale Reveals Identities of Goldfish and Gumball: Here’s Who Won Season 11
Image
Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 11, Episode 13 of “The Masked Singer,” “Finale: One Mask Takes It All,” which aired May 22 on Fox.

“The Masked Singer” winner Vanessa Hudgens admits she didn’t necessarily play the hiding game: At least among her friends and fans, they figured out it was her under the Goldfish costume rather quickly.

“Rita [Ora] guessed it was me straight from the jump,” Hudgens said. “But she’s also my friend. And we saw each other a few days before the first episode!”

Hudgens beat out Scott Porter, who had performed this season as Gumball, to win the “Masked Singer” trophy. Coincidentally, both Hudgens and Porter previously starred together in 2009’s “Bandslam.”

Despite their history, Hudgens said the production kept her completely in the dark as to who her competitors were. “I was so invested every step of the way,” she said. “I was trying really hard to...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 11, Episode 12 of “The Masked Singer,” “Semi-Finals: Then There Were Three,” which aired May 15 on Fox.

“The Masked Singer” revealed the latest celebrity to be revealed on Wednesday night’s quarter finals, and it was Thelma Houston as Clock.

Clock wound up in third place for the season, after the three semi-finalists performed one more time in a battle royale, all performing their versions of “A Moment Like This,” by Kelly Clarkson. With Clock out, Gumball and Goldfish move on to next week’s finals.

‘The Masked Singer’ Reveals Identity of the Poodle Moth: Here’s the Celebrity Under the Costume
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 11, Episode 10 of “The Masked Singer,” “Quarter Finals: Final Four,” which aired May 8 on Fox.

“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz knew “The Masked Singer” would be a challenge. But that’s why Metz, who was revealed as latest celebrity to be unmasked on Wednesday night’s quarter finals, figured she had to do it.

“When I watched the show, and I would see either my friends or peers on the show, I’m like, how do they do it?” said Metz, who was revealed as the Poodle Moth. “And it was harder than I thought. I knew it was gonna be like trying, because it’s enough to just stand on the stage and sing. But like to put on a massive costume, to not really know where you’re going and to be led by people in...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 11, Episode 9 of “The Masked Singer,” “Group B Finals: Soundtrack of My Life Night,” which aired May 1 on Fox.

For years, the panelists on “The Masked Singer” have thrown out names like Corey Feldman, Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken while trying to figure out what celebrities were disguised on stage. This week, those names finally became true.

“The Masked Singer” revealed the latest celebrities to be revealed on Wednesday night’s Group B finale, and it was Feldman as the Seal and Studdard/Aiken together as the Beets.

“For about 25 years, there was this kind of dark age where nobody really wanted to admit that my music was a real thing or that it existed or that I was doing it on a full capacity,” Feldman told Variety. “It was kind of overlooked and ignored for a long time.

The Masked Singer Panelists Should Have Saved Lizard From Elimination, According To Fans
Image
Fans are upset that The Masked Singer panelists didn't save Lizard/Sisqó. Despite the outcry, it's unlikely Lizard would have won even with the save, due to a lack of support. The Ding Dong Keep It On Bell has been used four times in the past to save contestants, with mixed results.

After Lizard was unmasked as Sisqó during The Masked Singer season 11, the celebrity panelists are coming under fire for not saving the singer before his elimination. Lizard made his Masked Singer season 11 debut on Billy Joel Night by performing "Uptown Girl." He went head-to-head against Spaghetti & Meatballs in the Smackdown and survived. On TV Theme Night, Lizard covered the Scooby Doo theme song. It wasn't enough to save him, and he returned to the Smackdown but survived against Sir Lion. Shower Anthem Night was the end of the line for Lizard, and he was eliminated.

"I'm mad y'all didn't save Sisqo.

The Masked Singer: Lizard Identity & Clues
Image
The Masked Singer season 11's Lizard was revealed to be singer Sisqó. Sisqó wowed the panelists and the audience with his high-energy performances. Group C's Clock and Poodle Moth moved on to the semi-finals. Poodle Moth was saved by the panelists with the Ding Dong Keep It On Bell.

The Masked Singer season 11 introduced Lizard as one of its 16 mystery celebrity contestants, and he was revealed to be singer Sisqó. The Masked Singer season 11 featured the return of host Nick Cannon and original panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, and Ken Jeong. However, for the first time in the show's history, there's a new celebrity on the panel: Rita Ora. For season 11, Rita replaced original panelist Nicole Scherzinger while she was starring in London's West End production of Sunset Boulevard.

The Masked Singer season 11 Group C contestants included Lizard, Clock, Poodle Moth, and Spaghetti & Meatballs, who first sang during Billy Joel Night.

‘The Masked Singer’: Lizard Says ‘It’s Flattering to Lose’ on This Show
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Masked Singer Season 11 Episode 5 “Group C Finals: Shower Anthems Night.”] Rita Ora was right about who was in the Lizard costume on The Masked Singer in Season 11. Lizard, Clock, and Poodle Moth competed in the Group C Finals, and Lizard was the first one to be eliminated. Ora, with Robin Thicke agreeing with her, had been saying it was singer and songwriter Sisqó under the mask, and she was right! Below, Sisqó opens up about his time on the show. On the show, you talked about your family loving The Masked Singer and being guessed before. Had you been asked to do the show before? Talk about the decision to do it now. Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 11, Episode 5 of “The Masked Singer,” “Group C Finals: Shower Anthems Night,” which aired April 3 on Fox.

After two weeks of being on “The Masked Singer” chopping block, Sisqó is finally gone-guh-gone-gone-gone.

That’s right, “Thong Song” superstar Sisqó on Wednesday became the latest celebrity to be unmasked on “The Masked Singer,” revealed to be the Lizard.

For Sisqó as the Lizard, several of the panelists had figured it out. Robin Thicke and Rita Ora knew it was Sisqó. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg picked Ray J. Ken Jeong said it was Michael Bivins.

Lizard was voted out after being one of the two lowest vote-getters in the two previous episodes.

‘The Masked Singer’ Who Is Lizard? All The Hints & Clues
Image
This week’s episode of The Masked Singer saw Group C hit the stage with four new contestants. When the episode ended, two newcomers had to face off in the Smackdown. Luckily for Lizard, he won out in the Smackdown round. Spaghetti & Meatballs unmasked as restaurateur and MasterChef judge Joe Bastianich. But who is Lizard?

Here is what Lizard sang on The Masked Singer, his clue package, and who we think is under the mask.

Lizard Performs On The Masked Singer

Lizard came out on The Masked Singer this week and performed a Billy Joel song on the night honoring the legendary singer/songwriter. For Lizard, the song was “Uptown Girl.” Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg said he was clearly a “showman” while Rita Ora said he was “tiny.” Lizard was in the bottom two and in the Smackdown round, he and Spaghetti & Meatballs sang “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song).”

Y2K Review: Kyle Mooney’s Disaster Comedy Is a First-Half Blast, Second-Half Letdown
Y2K (2024)
“What if the Y2K bug was real” feels like such an obvious concept that it’s surprising that it took so long to come up with it. At its best, the teen horror comedy Y2K will make you feel glad that Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter were the first to the punch. Displaying the shaggy looseness of sketch comedy, the film regards its setting with an irony-free attention to detail as it keys itself to the vibes of people who came of age before the new millennium started and would give anything to live it over again, with or without killer robots.

It’s New Year’s Eve 1999, and shy teenage nerd Eli (Jaeden Martell) is more worried about making an impression on his cool-girl crush, Laura (Rachel Zegler), than he is about the approaching millennium and what it might bring. After hitting up the video store with his gregarious best bud,...

The Twisted Metal TV Series Is A Total Blast – And There May Be A Secret Reason For Its Success
Image
This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being reviewed here wouldn't exist.

Video games have the ability to transport players to interactive worlds beyond their wildest imagination, defeat bosses to become the hero they wish they could be in real life, and step inside an identity that they wouldn't otherwise understand. Or, in the case of a game like "Twisted Metal," drive an armored ice cream truck and blow up enemies with a remote-controlled rocket launcher. The vehicular combat video game was the lifeblood of the Dorito-dusted finger lickers of America in the late '90s and early 00s, and while there is a story players can follow ... most people opt to obliterate their pals with nuclear weapons. Yet, somehow, Peacock adapted the game into one of the most entertaining new series of the year.

Review: Peacock's Twisted Metal Makes Too Many Pit Stops
Image
On paper, Twisted Metal, the long-running PlayStation franchise that started in 1995, would lend itself well to a televised adaptation. Each entry more or less adheres to a basic premise: Calypso, a seemingly omnipotent villain, runs a vehicle-based battle royale in which disparate characters vie for the title of sole survivor. Their reward? Calypso will grant them one wish, no matter how big.

With films like the Death Race franchise, The Running Man, and more, the combat-to-the-death genre offers plenty of material for mining. And thanks to 2001’s Twisted Metal: Black’s grim and excessive backstories, there’s enough in the series’ lore to explain what would compel each tournament participant to compete.

Peacock’s Twisted Metal opts for the scenic route, offering visual callbacks and name references, but foregoes the strictly tournament-based construct for character development. Here, the protagonist is John Doe -- whose video game counterpart is short on...

Twisted Metal Hits Sdcc '23 with A Sneak Peek, Tasty Treats, and a Surprise Performance
Image
Twisted Metal made a splash at Sdcc '23 with an advance screening, ice cream truck, and surprise performance by SisQó. The absence of stars due to the SAG-AFTRA strike was overcome with a Sweet Tooth-inspired ice cream truck, setting a fun tone. Anthony Mackie leads the cast as John Doe in a dystopian world of violent vehicular combat, delivering a mysterious parcel and forging alliances.

Twisted Metal hits Sdcc '23, offering an advance screening of the series' first episode, a sweet treat, and a surprise special performance.

Peacock's Twisted Metal came to San Diego Comic-Con without the aid of its stars on hand to promote the series. The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike means that the event could have been in a dire position, but thanks to a Sweet Tooth-inspired ice cream truck, courtesy of Portland, Oregon-based company Salt + Straw, the wacky tone for the event was set.

Image
Twisted Metal has dropped a new clip and image gallery that offer a closer look at the upcoming series. Based on the video game franchise of the same name, Twisted Metal stars Anthony Mackie as John Doe, a milkman with amnesia who is tasked with an important delivery in a post-apocalyptic world. Along the way he encounters various colorful characters including the killer clown Sweet Tooth (played onscreen by Samoa Joe but voiced by Will Arnett).

Today during the Summer Game Fest live stream, Peacock unveiled a brand-new clip from the Twisted Metal series.

The trailer features a violent confrontation between Sweet Tooth and John Doe in an abandoned casino that features them trading barbs and over-the-top puns before bonding over their mutual love of Sisqó's "Thong Song." Leslie Odom Jr.
Abbott Elementary Season 2 Episode 19 Review: Festival
Leslie Odom Jr.
Fans have been waiting on the Charter School battle, and Abbott Elementary did not disappoint. The team confronted the oncoming vote for the school's future together, and it was a riot.

Draymond, a former student of Barbara's and their primary antagonist, was played by the astonishingly talented Leslie Odom, Jr. His character was sleazy and phony, but he carried it oh so well.

On Abbott Elementary Season 2 Episode 19, the staff banded together, and it further solidified Abbott's place in the community and on television.

The writers had a field day because everyone was in their hilarious element. They even featured newer teachers who stole their respective scenes. This episode is undoubtedly worth the watch.

It had that feel-good vibe of knowing that a community could come together for more than just a good time. The show is building not only a community but a world, and it's engaging and...

"Thong Song" Singer Sisqó Gives Fiery Performance on American Song Contest
Sisqó in Snow Dogs (2002)
Sisqó took to the American Song Contest stage—with nary a thong in sight. The Grammy-nominated "Thong Song" singer represented his home state of Maryland on the April 18 episode of the nationwide singing competition show. Before Sisqó and 10 other new performers could take to the stage, three artists from last week earned automatic semifinal berths. Following in the footsteps of Washington's Allen Stone, who won the automatic jury vote, Massachusetts' Jared Lee, Georgia's Stela Cole and New Hampshire's MARi booked their tickets in the next round. The results meant Edm legend The Crystal Method failed to earn a trip the semifinals, which begin April...

Despite Competing Against Unsigned Talent, Michael Bolton Is an Underdog in This Week’s ‘American Song Contest’
Image
How are we supposed to live without Michael Bolton? “American Song Contest” doesn’t have to answer that question just yet, as Connecticut-based Bolton and his song “Beautiful World” could still place next week through a combination of votes through fans and jurors.

But the early lead on night one of NBC’s U.S. take on the Eurovision Song Contest went to Rhode Island’s Hueston, wearing his heart on his sleeve with the tear-jerker “Held on Too Long.” Hueston most impressed the 56-member juror panel — which includes iHeartMedia chief programming officer/president Tom Poleman, Klos host and former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield and artist/songwriter/producer Ester Dean. He was the first from this group to qualify to move on from this round.

Hosted by Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg, “American Song Contest” premiered Monday night with competitors from the first heat taking the stage, representing 11 states. The...

Welcome to our weekly column Can’t Miss Episode of the Week! Every Saturday we’ll be spotlighting a different episode of television from that week that we thought was exceptional and a must-see. Check back to see if your favorite show got the nod — or to learn about a new one! DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is known for its zany season finales. The past couple of finales alone included an epic battle with history’s worst villains as Sisqó himself performed “Thong Song,” and relied on a magical theme park to help send a demon back to Hell. And let’s not forget Beebo. Well, the Season 6 send-off, which aired on September 5, is no less crazy. In true Legends style, the time-traveling team makes a last ditch effort to stop an alien invasion, all while trying to give Sara (Caity Lotz) and Ava (Jes Macallan) their dream wedding...

Legendary's Dashaun Wesley on Voguing and Why Sisqó "Will Forever Be" His Favorite Artist
Image

Legendary host and Mc Dashaun Wesley first discovered his love of dance at just 4 years old, competing in yearly dance-offs to celebrate his Brooklyn, NY neighborhood. Then came his introduction to the world of voguing - a highly stylized form of modern dance that often imitates poses struck by models on a catwalk, and evolved from the ballroom scene.

As a kid, Wesley struggled to find mentorship and a place to fit in as a young, Black, gay dancer. At 14 years old, things cleared up for him while walking down Christopher Street in New York City's West Village. "I saw this one guy playing vogue music from a huge boom box," he told Popsugar. "He had a crowd following him, so I started following them. A young intrigued Dashaun wanted to learn about that world. From that day on, I kept coming back so I could...

DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 14 Review: Swan Thong
Olivia Swann, Shayan Sobhian, Nick Zano, Amy Louise Pemberton, Matt Ryan, Adam Tsekhman, Caity Lotz, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, and Lisseth Chavez in DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2016)
It wouldn't be a DC's Legends of Tomorrow finale with a bit of time jumping, chaos, and ... a Shake Weight?

It was up to the Legends to restore free will in the world on DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 14 after Lachesis used Gideon to gain power and exert her control.

The hour was full of sadness and goodbyes that were disguised as light-hearted humor, keeping up with the theme of the show while also tying off some loose ends.

Why must they tease us with Zari 1.0 if she was only going to stay around for a couple of episodes?

Yes, they intended for Nate to get some closure as he has been struggling to remember the old timeline with Zari 1.0 for all of DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5, but it felt like anything but closure for the two lovebirds.

Zari 1.0: I just wish...I wish I was leaving you with some,...

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (2014)
No, the Backstreet Boys Never Feuded With *Nsync, but They Do Have 1 Regret
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (2014)
The Backstreet Boys stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night and revealed some interesting tidbits about their career in the process. During their appearance, the host decided to get to the bottom of some longtime myths about the band. Namely, that Ryan Gosling was almost a member of the Backstreet Boys and that the band was in a feud with *Nsync in the '90s. While they assured fans that there was never any rivalry, they do have one regret: letting *Nsync perform the halftime show at the 2001 Super Bowl.

Nick Carter revealed that they actually had the choice to perform the halftime show or the national anthem, and they ended up choosing the latter. "It's kind of one of those bucket list things," he added. "You kind of regret it a little bit. [We] maybe wish we could still do a Super Bowl halftime." Well, we're...

Sisqó in Snow Dogs (2002)
Backstreet Boys Put Fallon’s Ragtime Gals Back on the Street Corner With ‘Thong Song’ Remix (Video)
Sisqó in Snow Dogs (2002)
Where is Sisqó when you need him? Well, it turns out that maybe you don’t need him — and also we’re not going to make the obvious and mean-spirited joke about what the “Thong Song” singer may be doing for a living these days.

On Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon assembled a new version of his barbershop quarter, The Ragtime Gals, to perform a very different remix of Sisqó’s ode to skimpy swimwear. This time, the group was a sextet.

Save Fallon, the regular Gals weren’t needed for this one — because nine grown men wearing these goofy outfits while harmonizing a cappella to the silly 1999 hit would just be ridiculous. Enter: The Backstreet Boys. They really wanna see that thong. That thong thong thong thong thong.

Song You Need To Know: Derek King, ‘Tetris’
Derek King’s “Tetris” is a baffling song, even by streaming’s everything-goes standards. It’s built around the melody of Sisqó’s 2000 hit “Thong Song,” but comes with a Bay area bounce. Instead of comparing butts to dump trucks, King’s lyrics are more interested in using the famous puzzle game as a horny metaphor. “So baby, come sit that booty/Make it fit like it’s Tetris,” he raps, before transitioning into a processed vocal run.

It’s a lot, almost too much, but that’s part of the charm.

‘SuperFly’: Director X on the Challenges of Releasing a Black Studio Film Post-‘Black Panther’
When Sony Pictures asked Director X to remake 1972 blaxploitation classic “Super Fly,” he had never seen the original. He had also never helmed a studio feature — just a 2015 indie, a Lifetime movie (“Center Stage: On Pointe”), and some of the most memorable music videos of the past 20 years, from Sisqó’s “Thong Song” to Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” viewed more than 1.4 billion times on YouTube.

However, while Director X created visuals for Jay-z, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, and Lil Wayne, “Lethal Weapon” and “Matrix” franchises producer Joel Silver struggled to get his “Super Fly” revamp made. “Joel had the rights, he had a studio that wanted to make it,” Director X told IndieWire. “The studio told him, ‘We don’t want to call it ‘Super Fly,’ and we don’t want it to be about anything that the original movie was about.'”

From that bizarre pronouncement,...

Best New Artist Grammy: Alessia Cara joins these 58 past winners of Grammy Awards prize for music newcomers
Alessia Cara at an event for The E! People's Choice Awards (2019)
Alessia Cara pulled off an upset at the 2018 Grammy Awards when she won Best New Artist over Sza. She became the 26th solo female singer to claim this awards since it was introduced at the second Grammys ceremony in 1959. While the first winner was “Mack the Knife” singer Bobby Darin won) , only 12 more male artists have taken this prize home since then. Groups or or collaborative acts have won this top honor 18 times. (Take a tour of all 59 winners in the photo gallery above.)

The Grammy Award for Best New Artist has been given out every year since 1959, with the exception of 1967. The most dubious winner has to be the duo Milli Vanilli, which won the award in 1989 only to have it rescinded a year later when it was revealed that they were lip syncing.

They were just one of the winning acts that have been cursed by this award.

Sisqo Still Obsessed With Underwear, Remakes 1999 Hit ‘Thong Song’
There are three things people know about Sisqo: he’s the lead singer of R&B group Dru Hill, he once sported a silver spray-painted platinum Caesar, and he has an unhealthy obsession with thongs. Eighteen years after the original release of the nauseatingly addictive “Thong Song” – an early Noughties club classic and inappropriate high school disco […]...

Kung Fu legends: The Venom Mob
Craig Lines Dec 14, 2016

The legendary Venom Mob never became kung fu cinema stars as individuals. But as a group? Let us tell their story...

A film critic, an accountant, an orphan and three opera students take on the martial arts world. It sounds like a plot from a crazy kung fu film in itself but, incredibly, forms the basis for the real life story of the legendary Venom Mob...

In 1970s Hong Kong, the film industry was driven by star power. Most of the big names were at some point contracted to Shaw Brothers and actors like Alexander Fu Sheng, Jimmy Wang Yu, Gordon Liu or Ti Lung could always guarantee a crowd. As daring as certain elements of classic Hong Kong cinema still feel, the studios were rarely willing to take risks when it came to the stars, believing that audiences just wouldn't show up if they didn't recognise the name on the marquee.

Sisqo – Cheap Ass Execs Slayed My 'Dragon'
If you forgot Dru Hill and Sisqo put out comeback albums, there's a good reason -- 'cause the R&B stars say their record label botched the whole deal and cost them millions in the process. Sure enough ... Dru Hill's “InDRUpendence...

Sisqó’s 5 Biggest Memories From the ‘Thong Song’ Era
Sisqó in Snow Dogs (2002)
The year 2000 brought some undeniably memorable moments: Y2K, hanging chads, the quickly shuttered Millennium Dome. And, of course, “Thong Song.” Yes, Sisqó’s smash-hit of a single from his multi-platinum debut solo album, Unleash the Dragon, which wonderfully celebrated the art of butt floss and has remained a staple of turn-of-the-century playlists. But what was life like for the man himself circa “Thong Song” madness? To find out, Dan Hyman spoke to Sisqó for this as-told-to piece. The Dru Hill singer, who this week releases his first new album in over a decade, Last Dragon, uncovers his favorite memories from the insanity that was his life in the late '90s and early 2000s.1. I performed for MTV down in Cancún. I think it was the first time I performed “Thong Song” live. I can’t remember who the host was at the time. It may have been Carson Daly.

How SisQo Predicted 'Thong Song' Being a Hit 15 Years Ago
Sisqó in Snow Dogs (2002)
Though it seems hard to believe, Nov. 30 is the 15th anniversary of the release of SisQo's debut album Unleash the Dragon, a.k.a. the record that brought us the crazy catchy track "Thong Song."

The album was an instant smash and sold six million copies in the U.S.

But when Et talked to SisQo back in 1999, he was confident that "Thong Song" was going to be huge. "My next single off of my new album [is] the 'Thong Song,' which is going to be like an international supersmash," he told Et before the single was even released. "It's going to be really big."

The 36-year-old has kept a relatively low profile since the early 2000's, releasing Return of the Dragon in 2001 and then lying low until he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother 7 in 2010 and Celebrity Wife Swap in 2013. But, the "dragon" is now coming back in a big way and will be releasing his third...

Sisqo Tells All: Thong Maven Details His Wife-Swapping, Fudge-Slinging Exploits

“I haven’t spoken to Rolling Stone in 14 years,” Sisqo says jovially, by way of introduction. After releasing two albums with his group Dru Hill – 1996’s eponymous debut and 1998’s Enter the Dru – the singer became a household name for 2000’s “Thong Song,” the second single off his debut album, Unleash the Dragon. It would eventually hit Number Three on the Billboard Top 100, and it remains an indelible turn-of-the-century aural capsule, a perpetual soundtrack to our collective spring break.

Those who have long moved past the singer’s ubiquitous hit...
