Jason Statham at an event for The Beekeeper (2024)
The Beekeeper 2: Director Timo Tjahjanto offers a promising update
Jason Statham at an event for The Beekeeper (2024)
Jason Statham movies tend to be a variation of the same thing over and over (and “variation” might be quite generous). But he has found his fanbase in a way that so few modern action stars have. For those who have faced Statham burnout, did we really need another movie about kicking ass in the name of vengeance? As it turned out, The Beekeeper was actually pretty damn good – so where’s that sequel?

Timo Tjahjanto – who will be taking over directing duties from David Ayer – said that he’s officially underway figuring out where to shoot The Beekeeper sequel. He also discussed what draws him to the story. “I was, literally two days ago, I was in London scouting for locations [for Beekeeper 2], and now I’m here in LA, but I love…I can’t wait, to be honest, because, you know, Beekeeper is obviously one of those movies where...

Ice Cube's 2025 Sci-Fi Flick Is One Of The Worst Movies Of All Time On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
The Ice Cube-starring "War of the Worlds" remake is one of Prime Video's most-watched movies, but not everyone is a fan of the latest adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic sci-fi story. As of this writing, the Rich Lee-directed flick is officially ranked at number 88 in Rotten Tomatoes' 100 worst movies of all time list, which is a remarkable achievement for a flick that only came out at the end of July.

"War of the Worlds" is an updated version of Wells' story, with the movie utilizing contemporary technology to inform its storytelling (but not in an exciting way). The plot follows Will Radford (Cube), a Department of Home Security surveillance expert who is used to dealing with everyday threats such as virtual attacks. One day, however, he is forced to contend with an alien invasion that risks destroying the planet and soon realizes that his government might be keeping secrets.

This is partially due to a number of franchises in which he is part of a star-studded ensemble, such as The Expendables and Fast and Furious. Kevin Hart & John Cena To Star In And Produce ‘The Leading Man’ As Netflix Lands Action Comedy Pitch From Jon & Erich Hoeber
Image
Exclusive: Writers Jon and Erich Hoeber have sold Netflix on the pitch for The Leading Man, an action comedy based on the comic book series from Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore, to star and be produced by Kevin Hart and John Cena.

The project brings the Hoebers back to Netflix following the sale of their original script Fast & Loose, an actioner to star Will Smith, which is currently in pre-production and looking for a new director.

In early development, pic’s logline is as follows: When a self-absorbed movie star (Cena) discovers that his co-star/man in the chair (Hart) is an actual agent, he’s forced to swallow his pride and accept that action stars aren’t really action heroes…while trying to save the world.

Hart will produce alongside Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley for Hartbeat, under the company’s multi-film deal with Netflix, along with...

Jason Statham's 'Transporter' Sequel Is Dominating Global Streaming Charts
Image
The biggest franchisee under Jason Statham’s belt is certainly the Fast & Furious, but long before he ever stepped into the shoes of Deckard Shaw, he starred in a string of action movies that were beloved, and one of them has returned to streaming charts. Statham stars alongside Matthew Modine (Stranger Things) and Jason Flemyng in Transporter 2, the sequel to his 2002 action movie that follows Frank Martin (Statham), who surfaces in Miami, Florida, only to be implicated in the kidnapping of the son of a powerful US official.Transporter 2 is currently streaming on Hulu in the United States and on various platforms like Rakuten TV and TF1 globally, where it’s charting in the top 10 in countries such as France and Iceland.

Transporter 2 earned “Rotten” scores of 52% from critics and 58% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but the film had no trouble finding financial success. It grossed $89 million...

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie's 'Operation Fortune' Is Dominating Streaming Charts
Image
Jason Statham’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is getting a surprising second wind on streaming after its disappointing box office run in 2023. The movie is currently trending at #9 on Hulu in the United States.

The spy thriller is directed by Guy Ritchie, who gave Statham his first break in the '90s with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and since then, the two have worked together on a total of five movies. Operation Fortune features Statham as Orson Fortune, a slick MI6 operative tasked with retrieving a stolen weapon before it is auctioned off to the highest bidder. The film pairs Statham with Aubrey Plaza, Hugh Grant, and Josh Hartnett. Despite a stellar cast, the moviefailed to break even and only collected $48.9 million worldwide with a production budget of $50 million. Gerard Butler and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's Divisive Fantasy Team-Up Is Back on Netflix
Image
Few action stars have built up as impressive a resume as Gerard Butler has over the years, but after starring in 20 years worth of action movies, it’s only natural that there’s going to be some misses. 2016 brought on the release of Gods of Egypt, the fantasy thriller in which Butler stars alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther). The controversial film had been absent from streaming for a few months now, but Netflix has since made it available to watch for all subscribers. Gods of Egypt was poorly received upon its release, earning “Rotten” scores of 15% from critics and 37% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also flopped at the box office, grossing only $150 million at the box office against a $140 million budget.

Gods of Egypt was met with harsh criticism upon its release for poor casting choices, particularly the whitewashing extremely present in...

The best movies you can watch on Prime Video this week
Image
From globe-trotting action to an epic musical, here’s what to stream.

Prime Video has been on a serious roll lately, especially when it comes to action comedies, and I am so here for it. It’s one of my favorite genres, and Prime Video has been dropping a steady stream of big, funny, explosion-filled movies (including the latest one starring Eddie Murphy!). It honestly feels like they’re using these as warm-ups before the next “James Bond” movie — which Amazon now fully controls — and if that’s the case, keep practicing so as not to mess with one of the best franchises of all time. Between these newer titles, some underrated sequels, and a few all-time crowd-pleasers, I went back through everything and pulled the seven best movies streaming on Prime Video right now. Whether you’re into treasure hunts, buddy comedies, or full-blown musical magic, here’s where I’d start.

25 Years Later, Jason Statham’s Second and Arguably Greatest Movie Ever Returns to Streaming Charts
Image
Snatch is a popular VOD hit globally, earning high audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Jason Statham recently celebrated his 58th birthday and has multiple action projects coming up. Guy Ritchie directed Snatch and has collaborated with Statham on multiple action films.

Jason Statham has become known as one of the most legendary action performers of all time, but everyone has to start somewhere. After first starring in Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Statham’s second feature acting role came in Snatch, the 2000 caper crime comedy following a group of boxing promoters, bookmakers, and gangsters who work together to track down a stolen diamond. Snatch is currently streaming for free on Pluto TV in America, but globally, it’s resurfaced in the top 10 on VOD charts in countries such as Latvia and France. The film also stars Brad Pitt (F1: The Movie) and Stephen Graham (Peaky Blinders), and it earned...

Ben Affleck's Armageddon Is Quietly Dominating the Streaming Charts
Image
A new challenger has entered the Top 10 on MGM+. Ben Affleck's 1998 sci-fi disaster film Armageddon has arrived on the streaming charts.

According to FlixPatrol, as of Aug. 7, Armageddon is ranked No. 10 on MGM+'s Top 10 Overall chart in the United States. Much like the asteroid in the movie, Armageddon has burst onto the streaming chart and will now try to climb up the ranks as a worthy group of hit shows and movies try to stop its climb. First in Armageddon's path is Jason Statham's 2024 sleeper hit The Beekeeper at No. 9, followed by the fan-favorite '80s buddy cop movie Lethal Weapon at No. 8 and Jack Quaid's action-comedy Novocaine at No. 7. Luckily for Armageddon, Lethal Weapon and Novocaine are down from where they were yesterday, which suggests that they may be on their way off the streaming chart.

The Jason Statham Movie That Leaked Online Weeks Before Release Just Got Overtaken by ’The Fantastic Four: First Steps’
Image
It wasn't too long ago that Lionsgate went all in on the Expendables film franchise. An all-female spin-off was in the works, and Jason Statham was primed to take over from Sylvester Stalloneas the lead. But last year's Expend4blesbrought all those plans to a halt. The movie tanked at the box office, grossing just $16 million domestically and $50 million worldwide, against a reported budget of $100 million. For context, Statham's last solo release, A Working Man, grossed around $16 million in its domestic debut alone earlier this year. The last time that the Expendables franchise saw success, particularly in overseas markets, was over a decade ago, when The Expendables 3 defied the odds to gross $170 million internationally. Now, the film has been overtaken by the recently released superhero title The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four recently passed the $200 million mark domestically, and is currently sitting at around $380 million worldwide.

Bulk | Trailer released for Ben Wheatley’s midnight movie
Image
Ben Wheatley’s latest film gets a creepy, thoroughly fascinating preview. Here’s the Bulk trailer.

You can always count of Ben Wheatley to serve us something weird and wonderful, but his latest film instructs us to “unexpect the expected”.

A trailer has been released for Wheatley’s new film Bulk and it looks absolutely bonkers, in the best possible way.

Take a look at the Bulk trailer:

In the “randomly chosen shots” we get glimpses of characters played by Sam Riley, Noah Taylor and Alexandra Maria Lara. There’s also something called “The Distortion Zone” and “The Brain Collider”. We haven’t got a clue what these are, but we’re excited to find out.

After pitting a big shark against Jason Statham in Meg 2: The Trench, Bulk marks Wheatley’s return to the style of his earlier work. There’s a little of A Field In England...

Watch Jason Statham's 'The Meg' for Free in August 2025
Image
Despite not finding favor among critics upon its release, this 2018 sci-fi movie, often considered horror, and starring Jason Statham, did pretty well at the box office. Titled The Meg, it hit theaters in the U.S. on August 10, 2018. Eventually, it made its way to various streaming homes over the years, including HBO Max in America and Netflix globally, where it has garnered even more attention.

Most recently, another streaming home has been added to the bunch, and unlike the others, it allows viewers to enjoy films and TV shows for absolutely free. Starting on August 1, The Meg was made available on Tubi, where it will play for an uncertain yet limited amount of time, joining a boatload of other popular titles that were added to the streamer just this month. Some of these titles are the four films in the Lethal Weapon franchise, Hotel Transylvania and its sequel, the Bring It On franchise,...

Jason Statham and Alan Ritchson's 'Fast X' Team-Up Is an American Streaming Hit
Image
Alan Ritchson is hard at work filming Reacher Season 4 right now, but ahead of its arrival, the star’s biggest box office hit is tearing up streaming charts. Ritchson stars alongside Jason Statham and Vin Diesel in Fast X, the 2023 Fast & Furious movie following Dom Toretto and his family, who are the targets of a brutal vengeance campaign by drug kingpin Hernan Reyes (Jason Momoa). Fast X is streaming on Starz in the United States and on Netflix globally, but it’s quietly crept into the Starz top 10 in America, sitting at #8. The film earned scores of 56% from critics and 84% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $704 million against a $340 million budget, which makes it one of the most expensive movies ever made.

Fast X recruited plenty of stars to bring the 10th Fast & Furious movie to life beyond Ritchson, Statham, and Momoa, though.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Secret Agatha Christie Adaptation Is a Sleeper Hit
Image
When people talk about movies that are "forgotten," they're probably referring to titles like Sabotage. Starring a massively talented cast, the film was directed by David Ayer and released theatrically in 2014. In fact, Ayer was coming off of the fantastic End of Watch, and he'd go on to direct the World War II drama Furyand the controversial DC Extended Universe blockbuster Suicide Squad. Sabotage was headlined by Arnold Schwarzenegger, one year before he made his comeback to the Terminator franchise with Terminator Genisys. And yet, the film earned terrible reviews and bombed at the box office. However, over a decade after its disappointing theatrical run, Sabotageis witnessing success on the domestic home video charts.

According to FlixPatrol, it was the fifth-most-watched film on Prime Video on August 5. Sabotage trailed the holdover hit Heads of State, which took the number four spot, behind Wicked, Uncharted, and the critically panned new War of the Worlds adaptation.

Bulk: Ben Wheatley Returns With Experimental Sci-Fi – Trailer Exclusive
Image
Ben Wheatley doesn’t sit still. That’s true in a genre sense – this is a filmmaker who’ll hop from harrowing horror, to wry comedy, to glossy period pieces (Rebecca) and thrillers (Free Fire), to gigantic global shark blockbusters (Meg 2: The Trench) from film to film. It’s also true in the sense that Wheatley rarely disappears for long. And since he served up 2023’s Jason Statham-starring megalodon sequel, Wheatley has been hard at work on not one but two new features (as well as last year's TV series Generation Z). For a while, we’ve known about the upcoming Bob Odenkirk-starring Normal. But he’s also been working away on a film titled Bulk – an experimental sci-fi film which looks anything but… well, normal. Watch the trailer exclusively here.

Jason Statham's Mutiny Delayed, Aims for Summer 2026 Release
Image
Jason Statham's upcoming action thriller Mutiny has been delayed. Directed by Jean-Francois Richet, the movie stars Statham as Cole Reed, an employee who is set up to take the fall for his boss's murder. With a script from Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis, the Beekeeper star is joined by Annabelle Wallis, Roland Moller, Jason Wong, Ben Catwright, and many others.

Earlier this year, Lionsgate announced that Mutiny would arrive on Jan. 9, 2025, in the week following Universal's M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te.

However, now, according to Deadline, Gerard Butler's Greenland 2: Migration has replaced Mutiny for the Jan. 9 slot, while Statham's new action thriller is eyeing a summer release. Presently, the movie doesn't have a date attached to it. It's also unclear what the reason is behind the delay.

What This Means For Mutiny

Mutiny began production in September 2024 and wrapped in November, and has been in post-production since the beginning of this year.

The end of the world is coming… again. Lionsgate has officially set Greenland 2: Migrationfor release on January 9, 2026, giving Gerard Butler fans their next dose of post-apocalyptic survival. Jason Statham’s Next Action Movie ‘Mutiny’ Faces Major Setback
Image
Jason Statham’s action-packed 2026 slate just hit a major snag. Lionsgate has officially pushed back Mutiny, the star’s next big-screen vehicle, from its original January 9, 2026 release date to an unspecified slot in summer 2026. The move comes as a direct consequence of the reshuffling prompted by Greenland 2: Migration—starring Gerard Butler—which will now take over that January date.

The delay is a notable bump in the road for Statham, especially after his recent collaboration with David Ayer, A Working Man, brought in just under $100 million worldwide. While the film was far from a flop and enjoyed an impressive 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, its box office fell short of expectations following the duo’s previous hit, The Beekeeper, which earned $162 million globally.

While release date shifts are common in Hollywood, the timing of Mutiny’s move underscores a more strategic approach. With Greenland 2 primed for January,...

The 2024 action movie has been bouncing between the last few spots on the streamer's Top 10 list for the past week, as Statham fans discover (or rediscover) the well-received David Ayer-directed hit. This isn't the first time that The Beekeeper has performed well on an Amazon-owned streaming service, as the action movie was also frequently in the Top 10 on Prime Video last month.

Unlike Amazon MGM Studios' recent action movie Heads of State, which went straight to Prime Video, The Beekeeper was given a theatrical release, which paid off big time for the studio, as it became a sleeper hit,...

Jason Statham Fans Flock to Streaming To Watch His Action Thriller Flop for Free
Image
It may have flopped in theaters, but Jason Statham's stylish 2023 spy thriller Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is enjoying a surprising comeback—this time, for free. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the action-comedy hybrid was all but swallowed by a stacked release calendar in early 2023, when it had the misfortune of opening against John Wick: Chapter 4, Creed III, and Scream VI. Despite a $50 million budget and a globe-trotting premise, the film managed just $48.9 million worldwide, missing the mark and quickly fading from the box office conversation. But now? It's quietly become a streaming hit—and fans are rediscovering what they missed the first time around.

After rolling out across various streaming platforms like Hulu, Peacock, and Starz, Operation Fortune has now made its free streaming debut on Tubi. The result? A groundswell of late-blooming appreciation from Statham and Ritchie fans alike. The film stars Statham as elite spy Orson Fortune,...

The Key to ‘The Naked Gun’ Dumb Jokes Is Smart Filmmaking
Image
Long before making the 2025 “The Naked Gun” reboot, writer/director Akiva Schaffer was a student of the original spoof films, “Airplane!” (1980), “Top Secret”(1984), and “The Naked Gun” (1988). There were rules to those Zaz films, one of which was casting classically trained dramatic actors — but acting wasn’t the only thing they played straight.

“This whole thing that they invented with ‘Airplane’ — I might be wrong, maybe someone did it before them — but what Zaz was doing that was so special was all dramatic actors and the dramatic story, and then treating everything – wardrobe, lighting, sets — as the dramatic version,” said Schaffer. “That’s tpart I was definitely taking with me into this one.”

When Schaffer was on this week’s episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast, he explained how leaning into the gravitas (and persona) of Liam Neeson, seemingly unaware of the absurdity of what he was saying or doing,...

Image
Per FlixPatrol, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which was released in 2023, is, as of Aug. 1, the No. 3 most-streamed movie on Hulu in the U.S. Only The Amateur and Locked, which hold the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively, are ahead of Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre was directed by Ritchie, who co-wrote the script for the film with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. The film follows Statham’s character, a special agent/spy named Orson Fortune, as he works to obtain a stolen high-tech item known as “the Handle” before Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant) can take it to auction.

Both Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie made their feature film debuts with 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The movie marked the first theatrical release for both writer-director Ritchie and star Statham, who would later rise to massive success as an action star.

Jason Statham continues his streaming chart dominance, as his $529 million smash-hit action movie from seven years ago takes a bite of out of the HBO Max top 10.

Young Action Stars: Hollywood needs to develop young talent to take up the mantle
Image
Who would you say are the best current action stars? Tom Cruise? Jason Statham? Keanu Reeves? Donnie Yen? Dwayne Johnson? Well, guess what—all of those actors are over fifty. In fact, Cruise, Reeves, and Yen are all over sixty. A few of the most legendary action stars, all of whom are still cranking out movies—like Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Liam Neeson—are well over seventy. And Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones himself, is in his eighties.

So what, you might say—people get old. Deal with it. And that’s absolutely true. But there’s a huge vacuum in Hollywood that no one really addresses: where are the younger action heroes? Who is going to pick up the mantle once the legends are gone?

Of the names listed above, I’d expect Statham, Reeves, and Cruise to keep making action movies well into their seventies and beyond.

There are some elements that certainly help the popularity of The Great Wall on streaming platforms, but the biggest one is probably related to expectation. When you sit down to watch a movie at home, your commitment to it is different from when you actually leave your house to check it out at a movie theater. So when you realize that the "historical" movie...

Did Netflix Just Reveal 2 Must-Watch Jason Statham Movies Coming to Streaming Next Month?
Image
Jason Statham’s most recent action epic found success at the box office and streaming on Amazon MGM+, but Netflix may have inadvertently spoiled two huge titles from the star coming soon. The streamer has opened tabs for both The Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Furious 7, and while they’re not available to stream now, it does present the option to remind subscribers when they are. This means both films will likely be available to stream on Netflix soon, possibly even at the beginning of next month. Both were mostly well-received by critics and audiences, and each found financial success. Statham is also expected to return to the Fast & Furious franchise in the 11th and final installment after Fast X teased his reprisal as Deckard Shaw.

Released in 2015, Furious 7 earned an 82% from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and the film also grossed $1.5 billion at the global box office.
