Saved By The Bell's Tiffani Thiessen Wasn't Cast In Friends For A Valid Reason
Image
Tiffani Thiessen, once credited as Tiffani Amber Theissen, got a big break early in her career playing the role of Kelly Kapowski on the hit kid-friendly sitcom "Saved by the Bell." That series ran from 1989 to 1993, and entrenched itself deeply into the brains of the kids who watched it. Theissen was a household name for anyone under the age of 14. She continued to play Kelly in the spinoff series "Saved by the Bell: The College Years" and the TV movie "Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Vegas."

Throughout her tenure on the show, Theissen continued to work. In 1993, she appeared in the feature film "Son in Law" (her first) and landed guest spots on multiple other hit TV shows like "Burke's Law," "Married... with Children," "Step by Step," and "Blossom." In 1994, she took on another steady role, playing Valerie Malone on "Beverly Hills, 90210." Valerie first appeared in the show's fifth season,...

A Complete History of the ‘Saved By the Bell’ Behind-the-Scenes Dating Drama
Image
Navigating a social circle in high school is hard, even in the idyllic world of Bayside, California. It’s only natural that all those perfect-looking kids at Bayside High would want to get all up on each other, and boy, did they. There was, of course, Zack and Kelly, except when there wasn’t, and Slater and Jessie, except when there wasn’t, and sometimes, there was Kelly and Slater, or Zack and Tori.

Remember Tori? It’s okay. Nobody does.

Well, those kids on Saved By the Bell were also kids in real life, so that’s largely what was going on behind the scenes, too. “All of us dated at one point or another — it was incestuous!” Mark-Paul Gosselaar told People in 2009, meaning that he, specifically, dated all three of the show’s lead actresses “at one point or another.” In fact, he dated Lark Voorhies for three...

Mr. Belding Was Irate After Being Left Out of the ‘Saved By the Bell’ Reunion
Image
Dennis Haskins kicked off a wave of Saved by the Bell nostalgia in the 2000s when he became the first cast member to appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. But despite Haskins’ irrefutable place in Sbtb legend, the hottest members of the cast froze out Haskins and Dustin “Screech” Diamond when they reunited for a People magazine cover story in 2009.

The actor who played Mr. Belding was furious. Haskins contacted the Detroit News — Variety not taking your calls, Dennis? — to vent his frustrations. “I earned the right to be there. If anybody deserved to be on that cover, it was Dennis Haskins,” he ranted, per Vulture. “I want people to know it was not my choice not to be there, because I would have been there. It hurts my feelings, but I’ll live.”

He continued to gripe to Parade. “They didn't even talk about Mr. Belding,” he complained.

White Collar Reboot: Everything We Know So Far
Image
The year is 2025, and the hottest trend in television is ... reboots of old shows from the USA Network? Yes, you read that right. The "Suits" renaissance has had a longer tail than anyone could have predicted when, back in 2023, it became one of the top shows on Netflix years after leaving the airwaves. In the two years since then, streamers have scrambled for the rights to other similar procedural series with massive back catalogs of episodes. This trend hasn't stopped there, though.

The next natural step was proper reboots, with "Suits LA" premiering in February 2025 on NBC. Despite the fervor around its predecessor just a couple years ago, that show has struggled with both critics and viewers. (You likely didn't even realize it's been airing for the last two months.) Perhaps a better fate will befall the upcoming "White Collar" reboot, which is currently in the early stages of development.

Peter Engel, ‘Saved by the Bell’ Producer, Dies at 88
Image
Peter Engel, who executive produced Saved by the Bell and a host of other teen sitcoms for NBC, died Tuesday at his home in Santa Monica, his son Stephen David Engel announced. He was 88.

The show that became Saved by the Bell began life as Good Morning, Miss Bliss on Disney Channel. The series at the time focused on Hayley Mills, who played the title character, and her students at an Indianapolis junior high school. That show lasted only one season, but after a retooling (and change in setting to Southern California), the NBC-produced show was relaunched as Saved by the Bell and became both a staple of NBC’s Saturday lineup from 1989-93 and a touchstone show for Gen X and millennial viewers.

The show helped launch the careers of its young cast — Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessen, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Dustin Diamond and Lark Voorhies — and spawned a...

Peter Engel Dies: ‘Saved By The Bell’ Franchise & ‘Last Comic Standing’ Exec Producer Was 88
Image
Peter Engel, who executive produced Saved by the Bell, its spinoffs and 2020 reboot, Last Comic Standing and many other series, died Tuesday at his Santa Monica home. He was 88. His family confirmed the news to Deadline but did not provide a cause of death.

Engel exec-produced more than 1,000 hours of TV during a 40-year career, mostly for NBC as part of a long-term partnership. His credits also include scores of episodes of City Guys and Malibu CA — both of which he also created — along with Hang Time, USA High, California Dreams, How to Survive a Marriage and others.

He also wrote more than 100 episodes of City Guys, nearly as many of USA High and 50-plus for Malibu CA.

Engel penned a dozen episodes of teen sitcom Saved by the Bell, which NBC aired mostly on Saturday mornings from 1989-93. The popular show helped launch the careers of such stars as Mark-Paul Gosselaar,...

The always charming Matt Bomer became a household name when he starred as famous con artist Neal Caffrey in the popular 2009 police procedural White Collar, which followed the cunning criminal as he agrees to become an informant for a tenacious FBI agent in order to avoid a prison sentence, using his unique skill set and expertise to assist them in solving difficult cases. Audiences everywhere couldn't help but fall in love with the sly con man and his winning chemistry with FBI agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) and partner-in-crime Mozzie (Willie Garson), with the engrossing drama going on to become a massive knockout for USA Network and one of the small screen's most exciting original shows. White Collar revival hits minor snag, but there's still an exciting update
Image
Since first being talked about as something that could actually happen, the White Collar revival has been long-teased and slowly developing. But the revival series of the USA Network hit started to take shape, and it's closer than ever. However, the most recent update throws a bit of a wrench in Neal Caffrey's comeback plans, but there's still a path for the blue sky procedural to return.

Deadline reported that even though the Disney-owned 20th Television is producing the revival project, the Disney-owned streamer Hulu passed on picking up the revival. Honestly, that's a pretty unexpected turn of events. White Collar might not be as popular on Hulu as it is on Netflix, but Disney tends to prefer to keep its content in-house. Putting a library title like this on the market is a surprise.

While Hulu won't be the home of the White Collar revival, which is said to be titled White Collar Renaissance,...

'White Collar' Reboot Gets Promising Update With Matt Bomer & More Stars Expected to Return
Image
There’s been a very promising update about a potential White Collar reboot!

Last year, series creator Jeff Eastin revealed that he was developing a sequel series for the USA Network show, which originally aired between 2009 and 2014.

In September, he teased that the show would be called White Collar Renaissance and promised that the studio was “very happy” with what he had presented so far.

There’s been even more good news about the show, including details about the cast.

Keep reading to find out more…

On Wednesday (February 19), Deadline reported that Jeff is gearing up to pitch the project as it searches for a network.

The outlet claimed that Hulu passed on the project. However, it was noted that Netflix would be a smart fit and is a possibility.

Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen are all likely to return to their roles from the original series. However,...

‘White Collar’ Reboot To Be Shopped To Buyers
Image
Exclusive: The long-in-the-works White Collar reboot is about to hit the marketplace. According to sources, series creator Jeff Eastin, who has been behind the effort to revive the cult USA Network series, will be taking the pitch out in the next week or two.

The project is produced by 20th Television, part of Disney TV Studios. Initially, sibling Hulu was considered the logical home for the follow-up as it also carries the White Collar library. I hear the Disney streamer opted not to proceed with the reboot, which now is being taken to the open market.

Of the other major players, Netflix would be a natural fit as the platform also has — for the moment — the original series in the U.S., the UK and Canada.

The main cast, including stars Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen, are expected to reprise their roles should the series come to fruition...

5 Actors Who Auditioned For (And Didn’t Get) Famous Sitcom Roles
Image
Audition tapes from The Office feature a virtual who’s who of 21st-century American comedy, with Seth Rogan, Adam Scott, Eric Stonestreet, John Cho, Bob Odenkirk, Kathryn Hahn, Judah Friedlander and Patton Oswalt all trying and failing to land a spot on the sitcom.

It’s a fascinating sliding-doors exercise — what if Odenkirk had been Michael Scott? — but The Office isn’t the only show for which famous comedy actors auditioned without success. Here are five more examples of TV stars who were in the wrong place at the wrong time…

10 Teen Shows That Went Downhill After The Characters Went To College
Image
College is a rite of passage for many young people. It's the time when they become most independent and reliant on their own skills and wits, away from an environment they've felt so comfortable in. Most people who go to college have just come out of their senior year of high school, a time when they're part of the oldest groups in their schools, and have their routines down to a tee. They had just spent four years cultivating a life that was the center of their universe. When the move to college happens, everything changes.

Or at least, it's meant to. When a TV show made for teens becomes popular, it inevitably gets renewed for more and more seasons. The problem is that the teens get older and the decision of what to do once they graduate arises. In lieu of separating the entire cast, replacing most of them,...

10 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching White Collar 15 Years After It Premiered
Image
From 2009 to 2014, White Collar broke boundaries within the crime procedural genre on television, allowing it to become one of the most memorable TV shows of the period. Starring Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay as Neal Caffrey and Peter Burke, an unlikely but undeniable crime-fighting duo working in the white-collar crime division of the FBI, White Collar took the famous idea of the gentleman spy and turned it on its head. Neal Caffrey is the gentleman criminal. A man who hates guns and loves fine art and just so happens to be excellent at thieving and forgery.

However, his world is upended when Agent Burke apprehends him, and they strike a deal. The upcoming White Collar revival will capitalize on the chemistry between Bomer and DeKay, which is one of the major elements that propelled the plot and intrigue of White Collar for so many seasons. Though aspects of White Collar haven't aged well,...

10 Saved by the Bell Storylines From The 1990s That Don't Hold Up Today
Image
One of the most generation-defining TV shows of the last 40 years, Saved By the Bell brought a lot of laughter and general hijinks into the lives of its Gen X and Millennial viewers during its original 1989-1992 run and subsequent Saved by the Bell reboot. The unmistakable '90s fashion, very funky music, and sheer amount of hairspray in sight make this classic teen show a huge nostalgic draw for audiences to this day. A groundbreaking series at the time, it put a group of precocious teens in the foreground and spoke directly to its target demographic.

Zack (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), Screech (Dustin Diamond), Lisa (Lark Voorhies), and Mr. Belding (Dennis Haskins) were introduced to audiences in Good Morning, Miss Bliss, which was revamped and then became the Saved by the Bell viewers know and love. With the addition of Kelly (Tiffani Amber Thiessen), Jessie (Elizabeth Berkley), and Slater (Mario Lopez...

White Collar Reboot Wishlist: 8 Things That Need To Happen In The Matt Bomer Shows Revival
Image
The White Collar reboot has been confirmed, and the revival will finally answer the show's thrilling cliffhangers from the series finale back in 2014. The reboot, titled White Collar Renaissance, will feature several returning White Collar actors, including Matt Bomber as Neal Caffrey, Tim DeKay as Peter Burke, and Tiffani Thiessen as Elizabeth Burke. As 10 years have passed since the finale, the reboot is set to feature exciting new storylines that represent shifting political and technological developments.

The White Collar revival has been widely compared to Suits LA, another upcoming procedural whose flagship series found its start on network television before moving to streaming. White Collar shares many similarities to popular shows, but it found its niche by focusing on white-collar, luxurious crimes, such as art theft and forgery. Given White Collar's track record and its excellent take on crime dramas, White Collar Renaissance will surely follow suit with fascinating narratives centered on high crime.

How Old Each Saved By The Bell Actor Was During The Original Show
Image
The hit early '90s high school show Saved by the Bell was a Saturday morning staple for many millennials growing up, and the actors of the series were close in age to their characters. Saved by the Bell followed a ragtag group of six memorable students: the troublemaker Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), all-American girl Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen), jock A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez), fashionista Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies), oddball Samuel "Screech" Powers (Dustin Diamond), and straight-a student Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley). Saved by the Bell ran from August 1989 to May 1993 as a part of NBC's Tnbc lineup.

Saved by the Bell was so popular that it spawned two movies, two spinoffs, and got the revival treatment in 2019, keeping the series' title, though the Peacock show was canceled after its second season. The tricky thing about Saved by the Bell is that no distinct timeline is given, except...

10 Underrated '90s Sitcoms That Still Hold Up
Image
The '90s were a golden era for sitcoms. Shows like Seinfeld and Friends dominated the TV landscape and continue to be streaming hits. The format began a significant move away from the standard family-based sitcom that was so prevalent previously. This shift made room for a variety of half-hour comedies that explored new territory and appealed to new audiences.

Since the sitcom was still such a popular format in the '90s, its not surprising that there are several series that have fallen through the cracks and arent as appreciated today as they deserve to be. In many cases, these are the most interesting sitcoms, the ones that arent afraid of being weird or challenging assumptions about what the genre should be.

This Teen Show Is Not Saved by the Bell, but by a Band California Dreams (19921996)

25 Years Ago, White Collar Season 1 Broke This TV Show Rule

It's hard to believe that USA's White Collar is 25 years old, because the show feels timeless. The charming performances still hold up today, and most of the subject matter is still relevant. Why White Collar Ended After Season 6 (Was It Canceled?)
Image
White Collar ended its six-season run for reasons beyond the show's control. Created by Jeff Eastin, the procedural series on USA Network followed the unusual tandem of con artist and thief, Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) and FBI agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay). During its time on the cable network, it was still actively producing original content, which included Psych and the Netflix mega-hit Suits. Set in New York, White Collar was primarily shot on location, which gave it a more authentic feel to it, especially since the city was such a big part of its storytelling.

Like Suits with Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), White Collar's backbone was the dynamic between Caffrey and Burke. As former adversaries, with Burke being the only agent who could catch the elusive forger and thief, their history plays into their relationship and how it developed while solving high-stakes cases.

There have long been talks of the potential revival series. Star Matt Bomer told Deadline’s Pete Hammond in an interview earlier this year that a revival series is “technically in the works,” adding ‘it’s moving in the right direction and seems it could be a very real thing in the next year or two.” Eastin then confirmed in June that an updated version of the police procedural is finally in development.

“We’re gonna reboot. I’m writing the script,” Eastin said, as quoted by Variety. He appeared at the trade’s TV festival with stars Bomer,...

The upcoming White Collar revival gets an official update from series creator Jeff Eastin. Months after it was officially announced that Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay, and Tiffani Thiessen would be returning as Neal Caffrey, and Peter and Elizabeth Burke, it didn't seem like things were moving along for the project. Eastin has been busy working on the story for Neal and Peter's impending team-up.

On X, Eastin shares a copy of the script's first page, confirming the show's new title being White Collar Renaissance. Check out the social media post below:

White Collar Revival's Additional Cast Members Further Prove It's Better Than Suits LA
Image
The White Collar revival secretly announced its expanded cast members, and it highlights just how better it is than Suits LA. Created by Jeff Eastin, White Collar was part of the USA Network's peak in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Released several years before Suits, it centers on Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay's Neal Caffrey and Peter Burke an unusual pairing of an ex-conman and an FBI agent solving white-collar crimes in New York. White Collar was a fun watch, with intriguing weekly cases highlighting Neal and Peter's dynamic.

White Collar's revival was already years in the making. Eastin first teased the idea in 2020, saying that he had a conversation with Bomer about the matter. Despite that, it's safe to say that Suits' streaming dominance in 2023 helped move it forward. Aaron Korsh's legal series about Harvey Specter and Mike Ross found new life on Netflix,...

Jennie Garth Says She Regrets Participating in ‘90210’: “I Didn’t Know How to Say No Then”
Luke Perry and Jennie Garth
Jennie Garth, star of Beverly Hills, 90210, actually didn’t love returning for The CW’s reboot years later.

The actress, who reprised her role as Kelly Taylor in 90210, which ran from 2008 to 2013, shared that she regretted participating in the remake during a recent panel at ’90s Con in Florida. “I wish I hadn’t done it. No offense to them,” she said, via People.

“The producer was a friend of a friend, and I remember he came over in my living room, sat me down, [billed it as] this chance of a lifetime. He asked me to do it and I didn’t know how to say no then,” Garth added. “But the people were very nice and all the best to them.”

Garth, Shannen Doherty and Tori Spelling were the only original actors to return for 90210, which starred Shenae Grimes-Beech and AnnaLynne McCord and followed wealthy kids at West Beverly Hills High School.

For a decade, Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green played Donna Martin and David Silver respectively on Beverly Hills, 90210. I Need The White Collar Revival To Feature This Moment After The Original's Finale
Image
Neal meeting Neal Burke in White Collar's revival is crucial for adding sweetness post-finale. Meeting Neal Burke can expand on Neal's relationships and force him to confront what he left behind. Cathartic moments with Peter and Elizabeth are essential to addressing the strain caused by Neal's faked death.

I need the revival of White Collar to feature one particular moment after a big reveal in the original series' finale. Though updates on the White Collar revival are scarce, I remain incredibly excited as this revival will allow the show's amazing cast to return. Even with the series now on Netflix, the prospect of seeing these characters play off each other in new situations is both thrilling as a fan and fascinating storywise, especially considering the state in which we left these characters in the finale.

When White Collar ended in season 6, it left things both wrapped up as far...
