Valerie Mahaffey has sadly passed away at the age of 71 after a battle with cancer. She will be remembered for her work in Young Sheldon and Jack and Jill, and also for starring alongside Tim Allen in Jungle 2 Jungle. We send our condolences to Mahaffey’s friends and family during this difficult time.

It’s unclear how long she had been battling cancer. Mahaffey was born on June 16, 1953, in Sumatra, Indonesia. Hailing from an American family, her father was a petroleum worker, which led to their family moving around during her childhood. She spent many of her early years in Indonesia, Nigeria, and the U.K. It wasn’t until she was 16 that her family relocated to Austin, Texas, and she ultimately graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts before beginning her Broadway and Hollywood careers.

Next month, a cult-classic movie by horror master George A. Romero (Night of the LivingDead) is getting the 4K Uhd treatment: Monkey Shines. The 1988 movie is often overshadowed by Romero's more famous movies, but this one earned a small cult status after an initial lukewarm reception. The special 2-disc edition will be released on June 3.

Monkey Shines tells the story of Allan (Jason Beghe), a man who suffers a terrible accident that makes him quadriplegic. After that, he is given a service monkey appointed to help him with daily tasks. The problem is that the adorable Ella suddenly starts to develop a fiercely aggressive behavior, putting the lives of several people at risk.

Exclusive: Rob Morrow and Janine Turner, who played Dr. Joel Fleischman and Maggie O’Connell, respectively, in Northern Exposure are reuniting for a podcast about the classic CBS drama series.

The pair are launching Northern Disclosure, a rewatch podcast about the series, which ran for six seasons in the 1990s.

The series, which comes from Evergreen Podcasts, will give fans a behind-the scenes view of the show. It will launch in audio and video form on May 20 with weekly episodes.

Northern Exposure, which originally aired on CBS from 1990 to 1995, follows recently graduated Dr. Joel Fleischman as he’s uprooted from New York City to Cicely to repay his student loans. Dropping into the tiny Alaskan town, Fleischman encounters a cast of eccentric and endearing locals, including his headstrong landlady and eventual love interest, Maggie O’Connell, who has a curious pattern of ill-fated boyfriends.

Directed by Renny Harlin, the original Cliffhanger, which was released in 1993, revolves around Stallones character Gabe Walker, a search-and-rescue mountain climber who is hired to help rescue a band of criminals from the Rocky Mountains after they accidentally lose their loot. The original movie was well-received, earning $255 million worldwide. Despite this reception, Cliffhanger 2 did not materialize until years later; the official development announcement came in 2023.

Cliffhanger 2 has yet to receive a release date, but according to ScreenDaily, the forthcoming movie is set to begin filming in the fall. This was revealed in a larger report about various projects receiving special funding via Austria's filming incentive program. Production will take place at various locations in Austria and Bavaria. Rocket Science announced the exciting news on Monday, confirming Ric Roman Waugh was on board to direct the high-adrenaline action thriller based on a script by Mark Bianculli.

Neal H. Moritz’s Original Film — who are behind the “Fast and the Furious” franchise — will produce with Rocket Science and Stallone and Braden Aftergood’s Balboa Productions.

A new episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at one of the more overlooked entries in the filmography of the late, great George A. 1993’s Cliffhanger came along at an essential time for Sylvester Stallone. In 1990, Rocky V notably underperformed at the box office, while his foray into comedy with Oscar and Stop, Or My Mom Will Shoot was disastrous. Clearly, he needed the right comeback movie. Luckily, Sly was on the right track, with him signing a deal to make a high-concept action flick for Carolco Pictures, the reigning kings of 80s and 90s action movies called Cliffhanger. In it, he would play a mountain climber named Gabe Walker, who blames himself after a rescue gone wrong. While mounting another rescue attempt, Walker runs afoul of a group of deadly robbers who’ve stolen millions in unmarked currency via an air-to-air transfer.

Hallmark Channel announced the premiere dates of six all-new movies releasing as part of the network’s “Fall Harvest” programming event, running from Sept. 11 through Oct. 16. The program lineup includes fall romances and holiday specials, alongside a Mystery Movies round of films.

The lineup of new films start on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. with “Roadhouse Romance,” starring Lauren Alaina and Tyler Hynes. The movie follows country music fan Callie, who is determined to continue her late grandfather’s legacy, and TV director Luke, who encourages her to look forward instead of back. The following week features “Raise A Glass To Love,” on Sept. 18 at 6 p.m., starring Laura Osnes and Juan Pablo Di Pace as Jenna and Argentinian winemaker Marcelo, who fall in love at Jenna’s family vineyard. “Taking The Reins,” which follows a writer who goes back home for an article about horses and discovers what ended her...

Hallmark’s autumn will be full of original titles as the network unveiled the film lineups for its Fall Harvest and Movie & Mysteries events.

In addition to the previously announced Roadhouse Romance, Hallmark’s Fall Harvest event will feature the weekly premieres of Taking The Reins, South Beach Love and more. The annual Fall Harvest programming event will run from Saturday, September 11 through Saturday, October 16.

From Sunday, September 12 through Sunday, October 17, Hallmark will debut thrilling mysteries each week, including One Summer starring Sam Page, Amanda Schull and Grey’s Anatomy alum Sarah Drew. Also part of the line up are Redemption In Cherry Springs, The Vows We Keep and One Summer.

The stars of Northern Exposure — Rob Morrow, Janine Turner, Barry Corbin, Cynthia Geary and John Corbett — reunited to kick off this week’s Vulture Festival. During the panel Monday, the cast members reminisced about their time starring in the CBS series, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, though there was no mention of a revival series that was originally announced in 2018.

“Your chance of having a hit television is probably as good as your chance of going to space and circling Earth,” Corbin said about Northern Exposure’s success. “The casting fit, the location fit, the music fit. Everything fit.”

Corbin, who starred as astronaut and retired Marine fighter pilot Maurice J. Minnifield, agreed with his fellow cast mates that all the elements behind Northern Exposure made for a high-performing series that stood out from other shows at the time.

The coronavirus couldn't have come at a worse time for currently airing broadcast television hoping to end their full seasons.

After presenting together at the Primetime Emmy Awards in September, Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg are getting an awards show promotion: They will host the 76th Golden Globe Awards next month.

Rocky Balboa is back! Sylvester Stallone has returned to his iconic role as the Philadelphia brawler in Steven Caple Jr.‘s “Creed II,” the follow-up to Ryan Coogler‘s original “Creed.” Stallone’s “Rocky” franchise has six films under its umbrella, plus he has created four films under the “First Blood”/”Rambo” label.

During his career as Rocky, Stallone has earned three Academy Award nominations — two for the original “Rocky” — and a third for his reprisal in the original “Creed.” He received the same three noms for the Golden Globe Award, and this last time, Stallone won the Globe for his Rocky reprisal in “Creed.”

The ’90s dramedy followed Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), a New York City physician who is sent to the small town of Cicely, Alaska. The cast also includes Barry Corbin, Janine Turner, John Cullum, Cynthia Geary, and John Corbett. The show originally ran on CBS for six seasons between 1990 and 1995.

You feel that chill in the air? Yep, CBS is developing a revival of the quirky Emmy-winning dramedy Northern Exposure, according to a report from our sister site Variety.

Rob Morrow, who starred in the original 1990-95 series as Dr. Joel Fleischman, will reprise his role in the revival, with original creators Josh Brand and John Falsey on board as executive producers. (Brand will pen the revival.) John Corbett, who played local radio DJ Chris Stevens in the original series, will also serve as an producer, but is not confirmed to reprise his on-screen role as of yet.

A revival of “Northern Exposure” is currently in development at CBS, Variety has learned.

Original series star Rob Morrow will reprise his role as Dr. Joel Fleischman, who returns to Cicely, Alaska, for the funeral of an old friend. Once there, he finds a new set of quirky characters and reunites with old ones.

Morrow will also executive produce in addition to starring. Fellow original series star John Corbett is attached as a producer, though he is not set to appear in the revival at this time.

Josh Brand will write and executive produce, with Morrow, John Falsey, and Ben Silverman executive producing. Universal Television will produce. Brand and Falsey co-created the original series. The duo also co-created the medical drama “St. Elsewhere” as well as shows like “A Year in the Life,” “Going to Extremes,” and “I’ll Fly Away.”

Monkey Shines finds George A. Romero in the somewhat unusual position of adapting someone else’s work. Brought onto the project after the dissolution of his partnership with producer Richard P. Rubinstein, Romero claims this was the only time he ever adapted someone else’s work besides Stephen King (though I’m unsure how The Crazies and Two Evil Eyes figure into his estimation). Perhaps it’s this circumstance that results in Monkey Shines being considered one of Romero’s lesser works. As the writer and director known for inventing the modern zombie and injecting strong sociopolitical messages into independent horror cinema, tackling what looks to be a scientific thriller à la Michael Crichton for his first major studio-backed film seems beneath his talents. Yet, I can’t imagine anyone else directing this film and achieving similarly successful results.
