The actress visited The Hollywood Reporter‘s suite at San Diego Comic-Con to promote her upcoming spy-thriller series Butterfly, alongside castmembers including Daniel Dae Kim, who stars in and executive produces the Prime Video series.

The film, which was released 25 years ago next month, stars Perabo as an aspiring songwriter who moves to New York to pursue her dreams and winds up taking a job at a trendy bar, Coyote Ugly. The cast also includes Adam Garcia, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Tyra Banks, Bridget Moynahan and Melanie Lynskey.

THR‘s Tiffany Taylor interviewed Perabo at Comic-Con, noting that there has been talk of a sequel over the years and asked what the status is.

New Oscar Charts: Screenplays, Music, and Visuals
Image
by Nathaniel R

Speeding the April Foolish Oscar chart production up now, with 10 of Oscar's 24 categories posted, in order to finish by, uh... June's end.

Prediction Index

(in progress since some categories are still under construction) Original & Adapted Screenplay  Visuals (all but two posted) Sound International Film

Ten categories left to publish (we never predict the shorts or documentary categories this early), so we'll try hard to get them all up this week and say more about the, too. They are: Actress, Actor, Animated Feature, Casting, Cinematography, Costume Design, Director, Picture, Supporting Actress, and Supporting Actor.

Wicked and Sinners currently lead the predicted tallies though that may change with the remaining categories yet to be posted. What's interesting is that they could fill up 80% of the original song category since Wicked (an official musical) has two Original Songs, one for each of its leading ladies, while Sinners (an unofficial musical...

Image
A letter from entertainment industry group Creative Community for Peace calling for the rejection of extremist anti-Israel rhetoric and the spread of misinformation has been signed by more than 400 in the Hollywood community.

Mayim Bialik, Haim Saban, Billy Ray, Uzo Aduba, Julianna Margulies, Diane Warren and Dean Cain are among the signatories to the letter, which was released Thursday and written after the killing of two Israeli Embassy staffers last week on the steps of the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.

“Hamas, Iran, and their allies and ideological sympathizers in the West have flooded the world with their hateful lies and antisemitic incitement since October 7 — lies designed to demonize Israel, the Jewish people, and their supporters,” reads the letter.

The letter also calls out the release of other statements signed by entertainment figures condemning Israel’s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip, saying that “some well-meaning celebrities...

Eurovision Song Contest: Former Entrants Call on Organizers to Ban Israel and Broadcaster Kan
Image
More than 70 former Eurovision contestants have reportedly signed an open letter urging organizers to ban Israel and its national broadcaster, Kan, from this year’s competition.

In a letter addressed to the European Broadcasting Union, participants such as British musician Mae Muller, Ireland’s 1994 winner Charlie McGettigan, as well as Portuguese singer Fernando Tordo called for Israel’s exclusion over the country’s “genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza and the decades-long regime of apartheid and military occupation against the entire Palestinian people.”

The letter refers to the ongoing war in the region that has so far claimed the lives of over 50,000 Gazans, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Decades-spanning tensions escalated when the Hamas militant group launched an armed incursion on an Israeli music festival on Oct. 7, 2023, killing nearly 1,200 people.

Israel’s continued air strikes on Gaza were the source of rife controversy at last year’s Eurovision Song Contest,...

We’re Shipping Ben Affleck and Britney Spears After ‘The Accountant 2’ Star’s Touching Confession and Their Raunchy Makeout Story
Image
Hollywood is full of shocking confessions, whether it’s a star admitting they’ve binge-watched their own movies or revealing their deepest paparazzi frustrations. Celebrities have a way of turning the most casual comments into headline gold, especially when they talk about their not-so-glamorous experiences. Take Ben Affleck, for instance; this guy’s got zero love for the paparazzi and makes no effort to hide it.

In a recent interview, Affleck opened up about how much he loathes the constant camera flashes and how they mess with his life. And, in a move that had everyone raising their eyebrows, he casually mentioned Britney Spears while venting about the whole paparazzi circus. Talk about unexpected! It’s funny how a random name drop can suddenly make the whole paparazzi issue even more intriguing.

Ben Affleck’s paparazzi rant includes Britney Spears mention Ben Affleck in Theon Von Clips (Credits- Theon Von...

Oscar Voters Can No Longer Vote in a Category Unless They’ve Seen All Nominees
Image
With the 97th Oscars now seven weeks in the rearview mirror, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is turning its attention to 98th Oscars, which will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026. On Monday, the organization’s board of governors announced other key dates pertaining to the coming season — for the announcements of shortlists, nominations and more — and also released rules and campaign promotional regulations that will govern the way contenders compete, including a number of new policies that, on the surface, seem fairly benign, but in practice could have a major impact.

In a major departure from 97 years of tradition, the board has implemented what one might call “the Diane Warren rule.” That widely admired songwriter has received 16 best original song Oscar nominations from her peers in the music branch, but has never won, in part because the final ballot that is sent to the full membership has...

Academy announces members must watch all nominated movies in each category to be eligible to vote in final Oscars round
Image
After years of informed speculation and online chatter about some Academy members not watching the nominated films before voting, the organization has announced a significant rule change for the upcoming Oscars season.

As revealed on Monday as part of several key tweaks and procedural changes, Academy members must now watch all nominated films in each category to be eligible to vote in the final round for the Oscars.

According to Variety, the Academy intends to monitor viewing activity for its members through the Academy Screening Room streaming platform. Members will also be required to submit a form acknowledging movies they viewed outside of the platform, whether at a film festival or industry event. The process was already used for specific categories, like Best International Feature and Best Animated Feature, but will now be adopted by the entire membership. Academy members will then only be able to access ballots online if...

Inside Vanity Fair’s Oscar Party With Winners, Billionaires, Rock Royalty and a Teary Jenna Ortega
Image
Oscar night is all about timing.

The challenge is getting it right. You want to be at the best party when it’s peaking (or before), planted in place while the vibes are strong and the crowd remains peppered with people holding 8.5-pound golden statues, and bolting before you’re among the final few on the dance floor in order to catch a wave to the next best thing on Hollywood’s biggest night.

Journalists, like this one, are only allowed inside a handful of Oscar night events, a fact that fortunately helps to keep a hot schedule. There’s the requisite stop at the Academy’s post-show Governors Ball, the Elton John AIDS Foundation viewing party or Vanity Fair. The more exclusive invites — Madonna and Guy Oseary’s The Party or Beyoncé and Jay Z’s Gold Party, for instance — are press free zones. The late-night bashes offer A-listers,...

It is what it is. I’m happy to be here… I’m the Terminator of the Oscars — I’ll be back. I’m coming back. You can’t get rid of me.

Diane Warren was denied an Oscar for the 16th time Sunday, after losing in the Best Original Song category to Emilia Pérez‘s “El Mal.” Warren, who was nominated for The Six Triple Eight‘s “The Journey,” wasn’t deterred by the loss, she told Variety. “I’m consistent as fuck,” Warren said. “You know, it is what it is. Diane Warren Reflects on Losing Best Original Song Oscar for the 16th Time: ‘I’m Consistent as F—’
Image
Diane Warren didn’t let her Oscar losing streak get in the way of having some fun Sunday night.

Despite not going home with a gold statuette for best original song for “Journey” from Netflix’s “The Six Triple Eight,” the prolific songwriter attended the Vanity Fair party in Beverly Hills. The loss marked her 16th time being snubbed for the Academy Award. (“El Mal” from “Emilia Pérez” won on Sunday.)

“I’m consistent as fuck,” Warren cracked when I caught with her on the Vanity Fair red carpet in Beverly Hills. “You know, it is what it is. I’m happy to be here.”

Warren’s ensemble at the Oscars included “Make It Fucking Happen” emblazoned on the inside of her jacket collar.

She said, “I’m the Terminator of the Oscars — I’ll be back. That’s in my Arnold Schwarzenegger voice. I’m coming back. You can’t get rid of me.

I Can’t Digest That These 5 Movies Won Big at the 2025 Oscars
Image
My relationship with the Oscars almost feels like one of those bad habits I cannot break. More than a handful of times, I have concluded for my own sake and sanity that I was done taking the Academy seriously. Yet, somehow, every year as the ceremony creeps closer, I tend to convince myself, and those around me, that this time will be different.

Despite my relatively cynical take on these things, one not entirely limited to the Oscars, I let myself get sucked back in, time and again. The absence of nominations for Challengers and All We Imagine as Light should have been the first red flag of this year, but I still held out some hope.

The most surprising part of the 97th Academy Awards, however, was that there weren’t that many surprises at all – or at least not the kind I was hoping for. Almost all of...

Diane Warren Loses Oscars for the 16th Time While Her Gut-Wrenching Reaction at Past Oscar Still Haunts Us
Image
Recognition is extremely important for artists who work hard year after year to produce music that resonates with listeners and makes them feel all the feels. And when you’re denied that recognition time and time again, demotivation is just around the corner. Who would know this better than Diane Warren, the songwriter who is yet to add an Oscar to her trophy collection despite being nominated a whopping sixteen times.

If you think about it, the odds should’ve been in her favor. After all, you’ve got to win once out of the 16 times you’ve been nominated, right? Unfortunately for Diane Warren, the Academy hasn’t been on her side since 1988.

Oscars Snubs and Surprises: Mikey Madison Scores, ‘I’m Still Here’ Shocks and Diane Warren Has 16th Straight Loss
Image
The 97th Academy Awards was a joyous affair, full of big orchestral numbers, celebrity singalongs and a triumphant hosting debut from Conan O’Brien. While “Anora” led the night with five wins, there were several snubs and surprises. Check out our list of the biggest unexpected moments below.

Surprise: Mikey Madison wins over award season darling Demi Moore

Demi Moore’s brave performance in “The Substance” seemed like it was a shoo-in for the best actress statue, given her redemption arc throughout award season and wins at the Globes, SAGs and Critics Choice Awards. Yet Madison’s performance helped “Anora” — which was awarded best picture immediately after her win — lead the night.

Snub: Original Song performances nixed

Some of the most memorable Oscar moments of all time have been the best original song performances, from Diana Ross and Lionel Richie’s 1982 rendition of “Endless Love” to last year’s “I’m Just Ken” spectacular.

Diane Warren: It’s ‘a Drag’ That Best Original Song Nominees Weren’t Performed Live at the Oscars
Image
Few people have a more reliable presence at the Oscars than Diane Warren. The prolific songwriter has received 16 nominations for Best Original Song, including one this year for “The Journey” from the film “The Six Triple Eight.” But while Warren is no stranger to attending the ceremony, this year she had to get used to watching the show without seeing her song performed.

Speaking to IndieWire on the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre before the 97th Academy Awards, Warren lamented the fact that the Oscars didn’t include performances of the nominees for Best Original Song.

“They’re not performing the song tonight, which is a drag,” Warren said. “That’s always a real highlight, especially when you have a nominated song. I’ve been so lucky. I think back to Lady Gaga singing my song ‘Til It Happens to You,’ that performance was just electric. People were sobbing,...

Defying gravity, dissing nominees: Oscars included ‘Wicked,’ Queen Latifah, and Mozart, but not Best Original Song contenders
Image
You can't separate music from the movies, especially in an Oscar year like this one with two musicals nominated for Best Picture (Wicked and Emilia Pérez). As usual, the Motion Picture Academy incorporated music into Sunday's Oscars telecast, though not always in the usual way.

Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, both Oscar nominees for their roles, performed the opening number. Grande started things off, appropriately enough, with "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. Erivo followed that with a rendition of "Home." Fans might have revolted had they not dueted during their time on stage together, so they closed the medley with "Defying Gravity"; Grande even stepped aside to let Erivo belt those final notes in the spotlight. They received a standing ovation.

Other artists included on Sunday night were K-pop star Lisa from Blackpink, Grammy winner Doja Cat, and Grammy nominee Raye, who contributed to a...

Camille On Music “As A Force For Good And Progress” As El Mal From ‘Emilia Pérez’ Takes Best Original Song
Image
“We are so grateful,” said Camille, letting out a great “whoo hoo” as she and Clément Ducol accepted the Oscar for Best Original Song for El Mal in Emilia Pérez. “We wrote El Mal as a song to denounce corruption and we hope it speaks to the role that music and art can play and continue to play as a force of the good and progress in the world.”

The pair wrote the music and, in a rare occurrence, shared the lyric credit with Jacques Audiard, director of the much-nominated Netflix musical crime drama

Ducol and Camille are also up for Best Original Score for Emilia Pérez. Saldana, who performs with Karla Sofía Gascón, just won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

The film received 13 nominations, the most of any in the field. But it’s been dogged by controversy over resurfaced racist tweets by trans star Gascón. She plays...

Oscars: Bob Dylan Was Invited to Present and Perform (Exclusive)
Image
The Oscar for best original song was handed out at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday night by none other than Mick Jagger, who announced the winner: ”El Mal” from Emilia Pérez.

“The producers wanted Bob Dylan to do it, but Bob didn’t want to,” joked Jagger. “‘The best songs this year are obviously in A Complete Unknown. You should find somebody younger.’ Ok, I’m younger than Bob! So here I am.”

It turns out Dylan was really invited to present and perform at the Oscars, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Earlier in the evening, Oscars host Conan O’Brien also suggested that Dylan, the subject of the Oscar-nominated A Complete Unknown, had passed on attending the ceremony.

“Dylan wanted to be here tonight, but not that badly,” O’Brien joked in his monologue.

Diane Warren Denied Best Original Song Oscar Again
Image
Diane Warren’s streak of Oscar losses continues, as the songwriter — on her 16th Best Original Song nomination — once again lost in the category for The Six Triple Eight’s “The Journey.”

Despite the 16 nominations — and eight consecutive Best Original Song nominations, dating back to 2017’s “Stand Up for Something” from Marshall — the 97th Academy Awards presented Warren with perhaps her best opportunity to win the category in years: “The Journey” was performed by an Oscar-winning artist, H.E.R., was in a widely seen movie, and was in a field where...

‘Emilia Pérez’ wins Oscar for Best Original Song, blocking Diane Warren for the 16th time
Image
The Oscar winner for Best Original Song, as predicted by Gold Derby's odds, was "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez. It was written by Camille and Clément Ducol, who also composed the film's score, and the film's director, Jacques Audiard. It's the first Oscar win for all three songwriters. Unfortunately, that meant a 16th loss for Diane Warren, who was nominated for penning "The Journey" from The Six Triple Eight and to date still hasn't won a competitive Oscar.

This year's Oscar race started at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards last fall, and it was a good night for Emilia Pérez, which won Best Music Themed Film, Biopic, or Musical; Best Song — Onscreen Performance (for Zoe Saldaña singing "El Mal"); and Best Score — Feature Film. However, "El Mal" didn't win Best Song - Feature Film. That was Warren for "The Journey," while "Never Too Late" was named the best song from a documentary.

Oscars 2025 Winners List: Anora Wins Big, Trailed by The Brutalist and More
Image
It’s finally time for the 97th Academy Awards, as the 2024-2025 awards season comes to a close and we hand out some Oscars. And this year, Sean Baker’s sex worker dramedy Anora ended up triumphing, winning five awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Lead Actress for Mikey Madison.

This meant that Demi Moore, long considered the favorite to win for her work in The Substance, ended up losing out. In other categories, Adrian Brody won Lead Actor for his work in Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, while Kieran Culkin picked up his expected trophy for A Real Pain and Zoe Saldaña overcame the Emilia Pérez controversy to win for Supporting Actress.

Anora also won awards for Original Screenplay and Editing, while Conclave picked up a win for Adapted Screenplay and Dune: Part Two was recognized for Sound and Visual Effects. The Brutalist also won for Cinematography and Score,...

H.E.R. Is ‘Bummed’ Oscars Won’t Include Performances of Best Original Song Nominees: ‘It’s Kind of Weird’
Image
H.E.R. is weighing in on Oscar producers’ decision not to include performances of this year’s best original song nominees during Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony.

The singer-songwriter would have performed Diane Warren’s “Journey” from the “The Six Triple Eight” soundtrack if the traditional performances took place.

“It’s kind of weird, but I’m just happy to be there,” H.E.R., who won the original song Oscar in 2021 for “Fight for You” from “Judas and the Black Messiah,” told me Saturday night at the Chanel and Charles Finch pre-Oscars dinner at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hill Hotel, “Performing or not, the song’s gonna live on, whether we perform it on the Oscar stage or not, I was a little bummed because I look forward to those performances, not just being in it, you know, but it’s totally fine. It’s still gonna be a great show,...

The 18th annual Women in Film Oscars party celebrated the achievements of the 65 women nominated at the 97th annual awards.

This year, Wif CEO Kirsten Schaffer told the audience, which included Cynthia Erivo, Monica Barbaro, Diane Warren, “Dune 2” producer Tanya Lapointe and more, “Our industry has taken a beating in the past four years, and that combined with what’s happening to women, to transgender people, to immigrants, to queer people and people of color across this country, means that we need this community more than ever. We need to double down on our efforts for inclusion as a community and not let up.”

Mark Eydelshteyn and Mikey Madison in Anora (2024)
Key Moments to Watch at the 97th Academy Awards
Mark Eydelshteyn and Mikey Madison in Anora (2024)
The 97th Academy Awards will air on March 2, with the ceremony set to begin at 4:00 Pm Pt/7:00 Pm Et on ABC and Hulu. The night holds the potential for records to be set, surprises in major categories, and international recognition for films that have gained momentum throughout the season.

Best Picture Contenders

Anora could become the third film in history to win both the Palme d’Or at Cannes and the Academy Award for Best Picture, a feat previously achieved by Parasite and Marty. Emilia Perez, which has earned 13 nominations, enters the night among a select group of films that have reached that number.

Of the previous 12 films with 13 nominations, only three failed to win Best Picture. If Conclave wins, it will be one of the few films to take the top prize without its director receiving a nomination, a distinction shared by Wings, Grand Hotel, Driving Miss Daisy,...

Judgment day is nigh!

Awards season is so long that America was able to become a crypto-fascist autocracy faster than Hollywood was able to decide which “Emilia Pérez” song Diane Warren should lose to, but good news: At least one of those things will all be over by the end of the weekend.

The votes have been cast, the campaigns have been campainful, and the predictions have been made and, then re-made, and then scrambled by the SAG Awards at the last second. At this point all that’s left is to hand...

Oscars Producers Promise Show Won’t Need to Kill Time This Year
Image
Last year, consummate host Jimmy Kimmel found himself in a rather unprecedented predicament for an Oscar telecast: time to kill. So, he read a scathing review of his performance by a once and future president to blow through some extra minutes. That won’t be happening this year.

“We were actually under time,” says returning Oscars executive producer and showrunner Raj Kapoor. “I remember thinking, ‘We’re having many backup plans in the event this happens again. As television producers of live events, I don’t think we’ve ever been faced with that — so it was a great lesson to learn: Have even more material, just in case.”

Speaking with THR last week, Kapoor and fellow executive producer Katy Mullan said that 2024 emcee Conan O’Brien didn’t even need to be asked to bring the extra material. Despite being a force in late night since the early ‘90s, it...
