It’s time to play Canadian Comic Blind Item, a game I didn’t realize existed until I heard a clip from the 30 Minutes on High podcast featuring comedian Che Durena. It’s yet another Norm Macdonald story from the vault, featuring a second unknown comedian who’s bound to get called out sooner rather than later.

According to Durena, one Canadian comic was not celebrating the success of Macdonald as he began to blow up on Saturday Night Live and elsewhere. The mystery comedian “was super bitter and would talk shit about Norm everywhere,” said Durena.

“We say (bleep)’s name all the time,” laughed 30 Minutes on High co-host Peter White. “It’s fine, don’t even worry about it.”

The reason the aggrieved comedian was talking so much smack? Apparently, Macdonald owed him gas money.

Hailing from multimedia company Abyssmal Entertainment, the feature has completed production and launches promotion at San Diego Comic-Con with a booth and a panel taking place Saturday. The project is directed and animated by Steven Shea (Surviving Supercon), who co-wrote the script with James Schrader, and it is currently seeking distribution.

Isla Monstro centers on ne’er-do-well Duke (voiced by Schrader), who falls off a cruise ship and awakens on an abandoned, top secret government island that is rampant with mutants and monsters left over from a failed “super soldier” mission from the 1980s. Per Deadline, Half Baked 2 has just wrapped production in Baton Rouge. The film, which will be released non-theatrically in 2023, has announced that True (who is perhaps known for her role in the 1996 teen film The Craft) officially reprised the role of Mary Jane. So far, she is the only returning cast member who has been confirmed to appear in a major role, though Williams is also set to make a special appearance.

A sequel to Dave Chappelle’s stoner comedy Half Baked has been on the cards since late last year and those plans won’t be going up in smoke, from the look of things. This week, the project was chosen as one of the recipients of the $40 million in tax credit allocated by the California Film Commission, which should help it move forward as planned.

According to MovieWeb, production on the sequel will need to begin in the next 180 days to make it eligible for the state tax credit. The same report also revealed some extra tidbits about the follow-up, confirming that it will take place in Los Angeles and follow the son of Chappelle’s Thurgood Jenkins from the first film.

Half Baked 2 is getting closer to becoming a reality. The sequel was among a dozen projects selected earlier this week to receive part of a $40 million in tax credit allocated by the California Film Commission. U.S. production, finance and management firm The Cartel has appointed Apa’s former head of motion picture literary Ryan Saul as manager/producer and has promoted Bradford Bricken to partner.

The Cartel’s co-ceo Stan Spry said Saul had a “penchant for discovering young talent,” and added “his ability to nurture that talent is something we pride ourselves in.”

Saul began his career as an executive assistant at the Walt Disney Company and went on to become head of motion picture literary at Apa. Most recently, he was a motion picture literary agent at Paradigm Talent Agency.

According to a statement, “He has garnered the reputation of being able to develop clients from unknown writers or young short film directors to become some of the leading creatives in Hollywood, working on some of the biggest studio films in production.”

A sequel to the 1998 stoner comedy movie Half Baked is apparently in the works, as comedian Justin Hires has announced he is writing the screenplay for the project. An actor, musician, and comedian, Hires is perhaps best known for his starring role on MacGyver, though his interest in writing has also led him to penning Half Baked 2. "Excited to announce I'll be writing the sequel to Half Baked," Hires says on his Instagram account, confirming reported rumors of his involvement. He adds: "Yes I know the original is a classic and yes this sequel will be [fire] because I'm writing it. Oh yeah, I write screenplays too."

On his Instagram post, Justin Hires links to a story from Comedy Hype reporting on Hires' involvement with Half Baked 2. This seems to confirm there's some truth to the rumored storyline details from that article, giving us an idea of how the planned sequel will play out.

The first Warcraft trailer isn't the only big news out of BlizzCon today. We just received a press release announcing the launching of Activision Blizzard Studios, a studio "devoted to creating original content based on the company's extensive library of iconic and globally-recognized intellectual properties." And as you might have guessed, that means a Call of Duty cinematic universe is in the works.

First up, though, is a TV show called Skylanders Academy based on the popular Skylanders game. Justin Long, Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad), Ashley Tisdale, and Norm Macdonald will provide voices for the animated series.

There aren't any details about the plans of the Call of Duty cinematic universe (other than referring to it as "robust"), but it sounds like Activision Blizzard Studios is taking a page from Ubisoft's playbook here, making sure they retain creative control over their mega-popular games and bringing them to the big screen...

Activision has announced they are opening a studio to make film and TV production based on their hit properties.

It seems Activision is in the market of spending money right now! Recently they announced they are buying King and entering the mobile market. Today they announced they are growing even bigger and entering yet another market, TV and Film.

This is a warning: Do not invite your friends over for the following 13 fright flicks, as they are the worst Halloween movies of all-time. That said, they are not without their merits.

Tom Hanks' raucous 1984 comedy classic Bachelor Party is being rebooted as a TV anthology series for ABC.

The half hour sitcom has already earned a big put pilot commitment from the network and 20th Century Fox TV. Fox also has a TV show remake of Tom Hanks' 1988 comedy Big in development, as the studio was behind both films. Bachelor Party is being produced by the Small Dog Picture Co., run by feature film director Jason Winer, and Walcott Co., run by director Max Winkler and New Girl star Jake Johnson.

The Bachelor Party anthology series was co-created by New Girl writer-producers J.J. Philbin and Josh Malmuth, and will examine the sanctity of marriage through the lens of three couples: One about to get married, one divorced, and a third just starting to fall in love. They will experience their relationships day by day as they continue to grow and change.

Wacky sci-fi comedy starring Harland Williams as a computer geek who gets the chance to fly to Mars when a real astronaut gets injured. He's determined to impress hot first officer Jessica Lundy and veteran commander William Sadler, but with less brains and experience than the mission chimpanzee, his efforts goes down like a you-know-what in a spacesuit. Houston, you definitely have a problem.

No, I’m not thinking Doubtfire vs. Madea. Technically that would involve a man fighting a woman, as Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire is Robin Williams playing a male character who dresses as an old lady while Mabel “Madea” Simmons is just Tyler Perry playing an old lady. It doesn’t sound like a fair battle. Obviously Madea would kick the fake nanny’s ass. But the synopsis I have in mind is similar for this Mrs. Doubtfire sequel that Fox 2000 has just announced with original director Chris Columbus and Williams both on board.
