With the comedy world hungry for fresh laughs and no-holds-barred humor, New feature film Wingman is set to deliver exactly what audiences crave: gut-busting jokes and an unapologetic approach to storytelling. Justin – What was the initial spark that led to the creation of Wingman?

Well, I originally came up with the storyline about 15 years ago, back when Harland and I were filming in Toronto. We were working on a wacky spoof comedy called Child Wild that Harland wrote and starred in. During that time, I came up with the concept for Wingman, inspired by the throwback...

The 2000s were decades filled with some truly funny comedy movies, but plenty of hilarious releases have been mostly forgotten by modern audiences. Although this was the decade where Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, and Ben Stiller achieved major success at the box office and Judd Apatows unique brand of comedy took over, there were some movies that came and went without leaving a lasting impact. However, this did not make them any less effective, and many of these forgotten comedies deserve to be revisited.

The best comedies of the 2000s were often crude and raunchy with plenty of over-the-top energy, although some of the most underrated and forgotten movies from this era were far subtler and valued sentimental more. Other comedies from shortly after the dawn of the millennium lacked the originality needed to make a lasting impact and were consumed and quickly forgotten by viewers. Whatever the reason, these...

Spencer Grammer, Harland Williams, Will Friedle, Harry Lennix, Juliana Harkavy and John Dimaggio are among the performers comprising the ensemble voice cast of the animated sci-fi comedy movie Isla Monstro.

Hailing from multimedia company Abyssmal Entertainment, the feature has completed production and launches promotion at San Diego Comic-Con with a booth and a panel taking place Saturday. The project is directed and animated by Steven Shea (Surviving Supercon), who co-wrote the script with James Schrader, and it is currently seeking distribution.

Isla Monstro centers on ne’er-do-well Duke (voiced by Schrader), who falls off a cruise ship and awakens on an abandoned, top secret government island that is rampant with mutants and monsters left over from a failed “super soldier” mission from the 1980s. Duke concocts a scheme to convert the island into a high-class resort getaway with the creatures serving as staff, which does not please the U.S. government.

Fly Me to the Moon is a historical romantic comedy-drama film directed by Greg Berlanti from a screenplay by Rose Gilroy. The 2024 film follows a romantic entanglement between a marketing executive and a NASA official, as he prepares for the Apollo 11 moon landing while she is given the task of filming a fake moon landing in case the real mission fails. Fly Me to the Moon stars Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum in the lead roles with Woody Harrelson, Anna Garcia, Ray Romano, Jim Rash, Nick Dillenburg, Jessie Mueller, Noah Robbins, and Bill Barrett starring in supporting roles. The network will air four new episodes of the comedy game show Byron Allen Presents Funny You Should Ask from 8-10 p.m. Saturday, December 9. Hosted by The Mole‘s Jon Kelley, the veteran syndicated series from Allen Media Group features a panel of comedians who interact with contestants for cash and laughs.

The CBS episodes will feature Byron Allen, Adam Carolla, Whitney Cummings, Vivica A. Fox, Billy Gardell, Jamie Kennedy, Natasha Leggero, Jon Lovitz, Jeff Ross and Sheryl Underwood.

The upcoming stoner comedy sequel Half Baked 2 will feature Rachel True reprising her original role. True played Mary Jane Potman in the 1998 film Half Baked, which starred Dave Chappelle, Jim Breuer, Harland Williams, and Guillermo Díaz, as a group of friends who love smoking weed. She is the love interest for Chappelle's character Thurgood, which presents a problem considering the fact that - despite her suggestive name - she is vehemently anti-drug.

Per Deadline, Half Baked 2 has just wrapped production in Baton Rouge. The film, which will be released non-theatrically in 2023, has announced that True (who is perhaps known for her role in the 1996 teen film The Craft) officially reprised the role of Mary Jane. So far, she is the only returning cast member who has been confirmed to appear in a major role, though Williams is also set to make a special appearance.

Also joining the cast is Maze Runner‘s Dexter Darden, as well as Moses Storm, Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), Ash Santos (True Story), Joel Courtney, and David Koechner and his best friends Miles (Storm) and Cori (Young) as they search for the money to bury their other best friend Bruce (Courtney), who died from smoking the most powerful joint in the world. A sequel to Dave Chappelle’s stoner comedy Half Baked has been on the cards since late last year and those plans won’t be going up in smoke, from the look of things. This week, the project was chosen as one of the recipients of the $40 million in tax credit allocated by the California Film Commission, which should help it move forward as planned.

According to MovieWeb, production on the sequel will need to begin in the next 180 days to make it eligible for the state tax credit. The same report also revealed some extra tidbits about the follow-up, confirming that it will take place in Los Angeles and follow the son of Chappelle’s Thurgood Jenkins from the first film.

U.S. production, finance and management firm The Cartel has appointed Apa’s former head of motion picture literary Ryan Saul as manager/producer and has promoted Bradford Bricken to partner.

The Cartel’s co-ceo Stan Spry said Saul had a “penchant for discovering young talent,” and added “his ability to nurture that talent is something we pride ourselves in.”

Saul began his career as an executive assistant at the Walt Disney Company and went on to become head of motion picture literary at Apa. Most recently, he was a motion picture literary agent at Paradigm Talent Agency.

According to a statement, “He has garnered the reputation of being able to develop clients from unknown writers or young short film directors to become some of the leading creatives in Hollywood, working on some of the biggest studio films in production.”

The first Warcraft trailer isn't the only big news out of BlizzCon today. We just received a press release announcing the launching of Activision Blizzard Studios, a studio "devoted to creating original content based on the company's extensive library of iconic and globally-recognized intellectual properties." And as you might have guessed, that means a Call of Duty cinematic universe is in the works.

First up, though, is a TV show called Skylanders Academy based on the popular Skylanders game. Justin Long, Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad), Ashley Tisdale, and Norm Macdonald will provide voices for the animated series.

There aren't any details about the plans of the Call of Duty cinematic universe (other than referring to it as "robust"), but it sounds like Activision Blizzard Studios is taking a page from Ubisoft's playbook here, making sure they retain creative control over their mega-popular games and bringing them to the big screen...

Screen Media Films President Suzanne Blech announced the acquisition of worldwide rights to Michael Rosenbaum’s raunchy comedy Back In The Day and will release the film in theaters on February 7, 2014 with an ultra VOD window on January 7, 2014. This marks Rosenbaum’s feature film directorial debut that he also wrote and stars in along with Morena Baccarin, Nick Swardson, Harland Williams, Sarah Colonna, and Isaiah Mustafa.

“We have followed Michael Rosenbaum’s career with great interest over the years and we are thrilled to be working with him on his directorial debut,” said Blech about the acquisition. “This film is the perfect mix of funny, crazy, and endearing all rolled into one.”

Screen Media has taken worldwide rights from Apa to Michael Rosenbaum’s raunchy comedy Back In The Day.

The distributor has set an ultra VOD launch for January 7 2014 followed by theatrical roll-out on February 7 2014.

Rosenbaum wrote the film and stars alongside Morena Baccarin, Nick Swardson, Harland Williams, Sarah Colonna and Isaiah Mustafa.

Back In The Day centres on a riotous high school reunion. Kim Waltrip of Kim and Jim Productions produced with Rose And Bomb Production.

Actors David Koechner and Harland Williams have used Instagram's new video tool to create a buddy-cop movie consisting of eight, 15-second segments. The film, titled Steady and Shakes, can be seen by scrolling through the clips on Koechner's Instagram page, which were posted on Monday. With the incoming of Instagram Video which allows for a whole 15 seconds of vid time — see ya, Vine, and your measly 6 — it was sort of inevitable that Hollywood would start getting hands-on about this thing, and lo and behold, "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" star David Koechner has decided to make himself a little movie out of it ... a quarter minute at a time and stretched over the course of several installments, mind you.

Dubbing his work the very first "Instamovie" to come off of the pic network's newest offering, Koecher teamed up with fellow oddball comedian Harland Williams for his own brand of tappage into the buddy cop comedy genre, "Steady and Shakes."

The duo are totally mismatched, natch, and they cause all kindsa ruckus with the department, but in the end their wild antics save the day ... or do they? Here's the play-by-play.

Success in stand-up comedy is very rare these days. Getting a live audience to chuckle is probably one of the most difficult tasks man has ever faced. Comedian/actor Harland Williams (Halfbaked) is well aware of this fact and that’s why he has chosen a venue where no one is present, the Mojave Desert. In Harland Williams: A Force of Nature, Williams’ only live audience is a cameraman and probably some miscellaneous crew.

Williams’ career is a peculiar one. He’s “acted” in films, most notably in Halfbaked. His goofy comedic style is hit or miss and in A Force of Nature, it is definitely a miss. His jokes are juvenile, talking about bodily functions and whatever else comes across his talentless mind. At less than an hour long, Williams manages to repel audiences even when no one is around. The crew were probably cringing throughout Williams’ entire set.

Hey , boils and ghouls… Jeff here with another Toronto After Dark 2012 update for you all! Sunday was Day 4 of Toronto After Dark 2012, and as usual, it was longest day of the festival, with four different features and four short films. Usually by Sunday night, folks are hitting what I call the Tadff Wall… You’re tired from several days of back-to-back films, late nights at the pub, and – for those of us who review films and cover the festival – trying to find time to do your writing. This year was no different, and while it wasn’t a bad day of films, I have to say that it was fairly middle-ground; especially for a day with almost 12 hours of back-to-back screenings.

While the Toronto International Film Festival holds a well-deserved spot as one of the premier movie events in the city, fans of pulpier fare and cult classics never found a place for themselves the the event. In 2006, however, these fans were given an oasis in the desert in the form of The Toronto After Dark Film Festival. The Toronto After Dark film festival has unveiled its first wave of film announcements for 2012, and included in these ten films are some of the most critically acclaimed and eagerly anticipated horror, sci-fi, action, and cult films from this year’s international film festival circuit.

Hey kiddos, Melissa here… and I have a short film that you have to see! Ghild, from Rose and Bomb Productions in association with Yarvo Productions, is a fairy tale for the giant child in all of us.

Ghild stars Michael Rosenbaum as Brauly Gullivan, an 8-year-old boy who has grown abnormally larger than those in his community. As Brauly struggles to fit in, his parents find raising a giant child, or Ghild, to be rather difficult.

The numbers 4-20 have tons of significance in both world history and American culture. It's Hitler's birthday and the date of the Columbine massacre, for starters.

But since those two are such buzzkills, we'll focus on what else the date means: high time for stoners everywhere.

Looking back at our favorite stoner films, we notice many actors portray potheads one-dimensionally: eyes glazed, dopey voice, etc. We love the following movie stoners because they're not only funny, but also multidimensional.

Okay, but mostly because they're funny.

9. Brad Pitt, 'True Romance' (1993)

Floyd is the ultimate slacker stoner. Pitt plays the character as being so high he barely forms words outside of mumbling, "Hey! Get some beer and some cleaning products." His scenes provide great comedic relief in an otherwise rough and violent movie.

We relate because we've had nightmarishly lazy roommates like Floyd. The scenes are twice as funny now in hindsight,...

I’m not sure how much of a “debut” this will prove to be for Andy Serkis — the guy’s got some heavy-lifting at the moment with second unit work on The Hobbit, if you don’t remember — but we all know that the multi-faceted talent can do whatever the hell we wants. And ScreenDaily informs us that he will indeed take the plunge with his “passion project,” which has Sam Tromans and his Sts producing. Along with Jonathan Cavendish, Serkis will produce through his own company, Imaginarium.

Currently untitled, the drama is “a period love story” that, somehow, could be described as “The English Patient up a mountain.” (Should we even take Tromans‘ note of “a fantastic script with a great female role” as anything other than sage council? I think not.) Who knows what that all might entail; just consider me interested as a regular admirer of his great work.
