    • Philip H. Lathrop was born on October 22, 1912 in Merced, California, USA. He was a cinematographer and actor, known for The Pink Panther (1963), Earthquake (1974) and The Americanization of Emily (1964). He was married to Molly Lathrop and Betty Jo Lathrop. He died on April 12, 1995 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

  • Member of the American Society of Cinematographers (A.S.C.).
  • Lathrop was DP Russell Metty's camera operator on one of the most famous boom shots in the history of cinema: the spectacular opening of Orson Welles' "Touch of Evil."
  • Noted for his skills with wide screen technology.
  • Began as a film loader in Universal's camera department in 1934. Worked for Russell Metty as a camera operator for nine years, graduating to full director of photography in 1957.
  • He photographed seven films directed by Blake Edwards, as well as doing uncredited work on an eighth ("Breakfast At Tiffany's") and photographing episodes of two TV shows originated by Edwards. He also photographed "Soldier In The Rain", a film Edwards co-wrote and was involved in producing, although he elected not to direct it.
