During the “Bill Lawrence and Friends” event at the Paramount Theatre, Lawrence let it slip that the “Murphy Brown” star would appear on the series, which is now shooting its Season 3, opposite series regular Harrison Ford and previously announced guest star Michael J. There are some projects that simply can't be separated from the tragedy surrounding them. Whether it's a legal battle, a feud, or even a death, the project is forever tied to its controversy.

However, it was another story for Rust, the problematic film from actor and writer Alec Baldwin. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Rust, directed and co-written by Joel Souza, took in $25,000 in its debut weekend in limited release. The film had a budget of around $8 million.

The $25,000 total comes from just 115 theaters after the movie was finally released four years after its star, Baldwin, accidentally discharged a weapon on set that killed the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and wounded Souza. Baldwin thought the weapon contained only blanks, but the chamber contained a live round of ammunition.

The Lawsuit was Ultimately Settled

A lawsuit followed the events, with Hutchins’ family settling and all charges being dropped against Baldwin. Baldwin paid a settlement to the cinematographer’s family, and Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, was made an executive producer on the film.

Cold Case's legacy is reflected on by one of the show's stars, looking back on the long-running procedural that was briefly considered for a revival. Running from 2003 to 2010 for a total of seven seasons and 156 episodes, Cold Case centered on Detective Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris), a detective with the Philadelphia Police Department who specializes in investigations that are no longer actively pursued. With a cast that also included Justin Chambers, Thom Barry, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Danny Pino, Sarah Brown, and Tracie Thomas, a reboot of Cold Casewas floated but did not move forward.

The film will be available through a limited theatrical release beginning May 2 and for digital purchase on platforms including Apple TV and Prime Video starting May 1.

Souza, who co-wrote the script and directed the film, has spoken about the decision to complete the project following the incident. “I’d been repelled by the thought of going back,” he said in an interview with The Guardian. “But now it started to appeal. And I couldn’t live with the idea of someone else doing it.”

The October 2021 shooting occurred when Alec Baldwin discharged a prop revolver that was believed to be safe. A live round was in the chamber, resulting in Hutchins’ death and Souza’s injury. Production was suspended, and the film’s future was uncertain until Hutchins’ family encouraged its completion.

It’s nearly impossible to critique a film like Joel Souza’s western “Rust” because, in many respects, the film itself feels irrelevant. No matter how “Rust” turned out the inescapable truth is that on October 21, 2021 a tragedy occurred on set, ending the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The film’s star, Alec Baldwin, was rehearsing a shot, brandishing a gun in front of the camera. It fired. It should not have. Regardless of who is to blame — which is a very important question, but not one I’m qualified to answer — Hutchins died from her wounds. The film was put on hold, then finally resumed production, and now… here we are.

Is it a good movie? That depends on your definition of “good,” I suppose. It’s hard to celebrate any production where such an unthinkable, avoidable event took place. And it’s nearly impossible to stop thinking about...

It's difficult to know how to feel about the potential release of Joel Souza's "Rust." This is the independently produced Western that became a major news story in 2021 when a .45 Colt revolver brandished by star Alec Baldwin -- who continues to claim he did not pull the trigger, hence the bizarre wording here -- fired a live round directly through the chest of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and into Souza's shoulder. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the accident. The official synopsis reads: “Set in 1880s Kansas, the film follows orphan Lucas McCalister (Patrick Scott McDermott), who “accidentally kills a rancher and is sentenced to hang,” according to its plot description. “In a twist of fate, his estranged grandfather, the notorious outlaw Harland Rust (Baldwin), breaks him out of jail and takes him on the run toward Mexico. The trailer for Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” dropped on Wednesday, three and a half years after the on-set shooting incident that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza injured.

Since this is a Western, the clip features multiple shooting scenes despite the real-life tragedy. People was first to premiere the trailer.

As seen at the end of the video, Hutchins’ widower Matthew Hutchins gets an executive producer credit, which was a stipulation in her family dropping their initial wrongful death lawsuit. Baldwin is also a producer on the movie and gets a story by credit alongside writer/director Souza.

Shrinking actor Ted McGinley addresses the storyline where Liz (Christa Miller) kisses Mac (Josh Hopkins). McGinley's character, Derek, and Liz are a foundational couple of the Apple TV+ series and are among the most important Shrinking characters. During an interview with Cbr, McGinley shares that he was disappointed by the storyline, but still managed to find a silver lining in it. He discusses how he could see where the storyline was headed while acting opposite Miller and that it was difficult to play considering the positivity and light humor that Derek generally brings to the show. However, McGinley did find beauty in the storyline that made performing it more meaningful.

Shrinking season 2, episode 6, "In a Lonely Place" ends with a worrisome tease that the marriage between Liz (Christa Miller) and Derek (Ted McGinley) may be in trouble. Alrighty, we're going to start with Sean because he's the one who gave us the biggest fright at the end of episode 5. What a cliffhanger! After his father was unsupportive and not willing ot listen to Sean's pain yet again, he lashes out and goes to start a fight. It turns out he didn't even fight back though. Sean just took the beating. This completely broke my heart.

What was real heartwarming though is that the whole gang gathers around and comes to visit and support Sean in the hospital.

If you were a fan of the Courtney Cox-led comedy back when it was on from 2009 to 2015, then you may have recognized a familiar face on Shrinking season 2 episode 5 this week. Unfortunately, it wasn't the Friends star. But it was still a fun guest appearance.

Liz actress Christa Miller starred as Ellie in Cougar Town, and so did actor Josh Hopkins as Grayson. Well in the newest episode of the Apple TV+ series, he makes an appearance as Liz's ex-boyfriend from 25 years ago, Mac.
