Before David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, there was Marc Bolan. As the frontman for T. Rex, Bolan was a foundational force of glam rock, putting on glitter and feather boas with an androgynous swagger that reshaped the look and sound of 1970s Britain.
The documentary AngelHeaded Hipster attempts to capture his legacy through a unique lens: the creation of a modern tribute album produced by the late Hal Willner. This structure immediately splits the film into two distinct parts.
One is a biographical journey using rich archival material to tell Bolan’s story. The other is a contemporary, behind-the-scenes look at artists like Nick Cave and U2 recording their interpretations of his work. The film’s central question becomes how these two narratives, past and present, speak to each other.
A Starman in the Archives
The most potent parts of the film are, without question, the moments spent with Bolan himself.

Two months after the death of Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys legend was laid to rest at Los Angeles’ Westwood Memorial Park.
His daughter Carnie Wilson, singer of the Nineties trio Wilson Phillips, wrote a heartfelt post on Instagram about her father’s burial. “Today we laid my Daddy to rest,” she said. “It was incredibly difficult to see that happen, but at the same time it gave more closure and more of a feeling of restful peace. The last eight weeks have been extremely challenging and like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Following Ozzy Osbourne’s recent passing, Variety reports that Sony’s previously announced biopic about Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne is still moving forward.
A representative for Polygram Entertainment confirmed that the project — initially announced back in 2020 — continues to gestate, and “they’re currently in negotiations with a director, which could be confirmed very soon.”
As previously reported, Sony announced that it would be helming a film about the Prince of Darkness and his relationship with wife and manager Sharon. The studio teamed up with Polygram Entertainment and Osbourne Media to develop the film, which was set to be produced by Sharon, Jack, and Aimee Osbourne alongside Polygram’s Michele Anthony and David Blackman and Sony’s Andrea Giannetti.
Lee Hall, script writer for the 2019 Elton John biopic Rocketman, was tapped to write the screenplay, and per the Polygram rep’s latest statement, Hall and the production team are all still on board.

Taron Egerton's new mystery thriller is here, and it now has a Rotten Tomatoes score. Egerton will be best known to many audiences for his role as Eggsy in the Kingsman franchise, a role he first played back in 2014.
Egerton returned as the spy character in 2017's Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and he is expected to return for one more outing with Kingsman 3 from franchise director Matthew Vaughn. Outside his work in this action spy franchise, however, Egerton has established himself as a bankable star.
The Welsh actor took on the role of Elton John in Rocketman (2019), which was a big critical and commercial success. He also stars in Carry-On (2024), an action thriller that now stands as the second most-watched English-language Netflix movie ever.
2025 has been another strong year for Egerton, with the actor leading the Apple TV+ series Smoke. His latest release is a smaller film in the thriller genre,...

Taron Egerton doesn’t even blink when asked what he likes about Nate, the brutally violent ex-con he plays in Lionsgate’s new gritty crime thriller, “She Rides Shotgun.”
“I actually like that he hates himself,” he says. “He’s got that kind of reluctant hero thing, the kind of tortured hero, but he would never think of himself in those terms. He’s only reflective about his mistakes. I think he’s somebody that kind of walks around feeling like he’s not fit to be in the world, certainly not fit to be a father. That kind of emotional inarticulacy is quite interesting to me. I think it’s really human to walk around with a voice in your head telling you that you’ve fucked up.”
The film, directed by Nick Rowland and adapted from Jordan Harper’s novel, follows Nate being recently released from prison after...

Spinal Tap have re-recorded their classic song “Stonehenge” with the legendary Elton John for the upcoming sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, as well as an accompanying companion album, titled The End Continues. Both the film and the album will arrive on September 12th.
“Stonehenge” was one of the highlights in the original 1984 movie, This Is Spinal Tap, as made famous in the hilarious scene in which the band plays onstage alongside an 18-inch Stonehenge prop instead of an 18-foot one.
The music video (and likely full scene from the sequel) shows Spinal Tap finally playing in front of that 18-foot Stonehenge they originally desired, as they are joined by Elton on piano and vocals.
The album The End Continues will also feature guest spots from Paul McCartney on “Cups and Cakes,” and married couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood on “Big Bottom,” as well as a second appearance...

It turns out that the real problem with Spinal Tap’s “Stonehenge” wasn’t just that tiny onstage prop — the song was also missing some assistance from a living rock monument. A just-released new version of the track, featuring Elton John on vocals, is the first single from the fictional metal gods’ new album,The End Continues. The collection, due Sept. 12, will accompany the long-delayed sequel to 1984’s This Is Spinal Tap, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which hits theaters the same day.

The race to be Denis Villeneuve’s 007 is hotting up, but Taron Egerton has bowed out.
The actor, known for his roles in the Kingsman movies and as Elton John in Rocketman, may have been considered a frontrunner for James Bond after step-siblings Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson formally handed over the rights to Amazon earlier this year. He’s young, fit and British, has proven he can play a great spy — why not?
“I think I’m too messy for that,” Egerton told Collider on Tuesday. “I think I’m not [the right fit]— I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig’s tenure.”
“But I think I wouldn’t be good at it,” he continued, “and I think there’s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably.”

A new era of Who history began earlier this month with the launch of the Song Is Over farewell tour in Italy. The show marked not only the start of the band’s supposed last tour, but also the unveiling of new drummer Scott Devours. He took over from Zak Starkey after a bizarre and protracted battle that played out in public, and placed Devour in a pretty awkward position.

Though he’s remembered by hard rockers as the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne is known to Black Sabbath bassist Terence “Geezer” Butler as the Prince of Laughter. In an emotional essay penned in The Times U.K., the bandmate recalled his decades-long friendship with the heavy metal pioneer, recalling the formation of the seminal group and their final days at rehearsal.
On July 5, the group reunited fully for the first time in two decades, along with guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward, to perform to a crowd of 40,000 in Aston, Birmingham’s Villa Park, the birthplace of the band in 1968. The star-studded, livestreamed affair was led by self-described Black Sabbath obsessive Jason Momoa and featured recorded tributes from famous fans like Dolly Parton and Elton John. All proceeds from Back to the Beginning — totaling nearly $200 million — were donated to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorns Children’s Hospice,...

Billy Joel is opening up about a tough moment with longtime friend and tourmate Elton John.
In the second part of the new two-part HBO Documentary, “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” the “New York State of Mind” singer shared how John’s public comments that he needed rehab strained their friendship.
“Elton had made a comment that he thought I needed real rehab,” Joel said in the film, referencing an interview he did with “Rolling Stone” in 2011. “He chalked it up to, ‘Oh, he’s a drunk.’ And that really hurt me.”
He added, “I said, wait a minute? Don’t you know me better than that? And there was bad blood for a little while. There was a dovetailing of things that happened during that time.”

Billy Joel acknowledged “bad blood” between himself and Elton John in the second installment of his two-part HBO documentary “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” released Friday. Joel explained the pair’s fallout occurred after John publicly insisted he needed to go to rehab.
“Elton had made a comment that he thought I needed real rehab,” Joel said. “He chalked it up to, ‘Oh, he’s a drunk.’ And that really hurt me.”
“I said wait a minute? Don’t you know me better than that? And there was bad blood for a little while. There was a dovetailing of things that happened during that time,” the “Uptown Girl” singer also explained.
The pair were close friends for years and had just finished up a 2010 co-tour when John told Rolling Stone they’d actually had “so many cancelled tours because of illnesses and various other things, alcoholism.”

The Boys Season 5 is full of its signature gore and violence, as seen in the brief teaser showcased at the San Diego Comic Con. As Entertainment Weekly reports, at the end of the Gen V Season 2 panel, its parent series had a brief teaser to show the fans. The teaser included a new supe character projectile vomiting a bloody hairball at Kimiko’s cheek, as well as someone having a violent explosion in a bathroom stall.
While Supernatural stars Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki weren’t included in these scenes, they did appear in a blink-or-you-miss-it scene, as did Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, portraying characters that have not been revealed yet (via Variety). The teaser was brief, but it was full of other teases and clips of the upcoming season.

That long-dreaded awaited Spinal Tap reunion wouldn’t be happening with the generous funding of C. Montgomery Burns.
As director Rob Reiner tells it, he and his This Is Spinal Tap collaborators Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer had long ago abandoned the idea of making a sequel to their seminal 1984 mockumentary. But thanks to a series of fortunate events — including the deep pockets of one of the stars — the quartet is back with Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
Speaking at Collider’s Directors on Directing panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Reiner explained why it took four decades for the “Stonehenge” purveyors to dial it back up to 11 one more time.

Mockumentary sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is out in September, and the full trailer has emerged as a reminder.
Update 25th July 2025: Belated mockumentary sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues now – finally – has a full trailer. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer are back in their wigs (now greyer) as the hapless veteran rock band, now reuniting for one last gig.
Just as importantly, director Rob Reiner is also back in front of the camera as documentarian Marty Dibergi, who catches up with the ageing rockers as they stumble back out of obscurity in an age of social media and branded merchandise.
Few are likely to expect The End Continues to reach the classic heights of the 1984 original, but that’s partly because so few comedies have. Here’s hoping it’s a fitting send-off for the writers of such rock standards as Stone Henge,...

Reiner returns to direct, write and star in the long-awaited sequel to his original music mockumentary. Joining him as actors and writers are Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer — all of whom starred in and co-wrote the original film.
In the new trailer, Reiner returns as Martin “Marty” Di Bergi, a fictional documentarian who “directed” the original documentary about the band Spinal Tap’s 1982 tour for their album “Smell the Glove.” Since the events of the first movie, the members have all gone their separate ways. They’re back! The first official trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has dropped, and we see the lads from the legendary British rock band reunite for one last gig.
In the clip, we see filmmaker Marty Dibergi catch people up with what’s happened to Spinal Tap since his first film, This Is Spinal Tap. We then see the central Tap trio of Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) all looking their age and leading rather sedentary lives, in stark comparison to their past lives as stadium rock gods. The trailer then shows us efforts by the band to reunite for one last hurrah, including their efforts to recruit a drummer suicidal enough to play the gig, their merchandising efforts and whether one (or two) of them dying on stage would help boost publicity for the gig and cement their legacy.

Kelly Osbourne is mourning the death of her dad and rock legend Ozzy. On Thursday, the musician and daughter of the Black Sabbath frontman returned to social media for the first time, using the opening line to “Changes.”
“I feel unhappy,” she wrote. “I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had.”
The new post from Kelly — posted to her story over a black background — is her first public statement since a joint one on behalf of the Osbourne family following news of the metal god’s death.

Like a big bottom, Spinal Tap has dropped at the San Diego Comic Con. With that – as promised – comes the first trailer for their much-anticipated return: Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

All the way back in 1984, the world was introduced to the rock sensation known as Spinal Tap. As fictional documentarian Marty Di Bergi, real-life filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner toured around the country with the fake British rock band comprised of David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls, as well as a revolving door of drummers who kept encountering unfortunate circumstances, forcing them to leave the band. Sure, this is a mockumentary, but as one of the first films of its kind, the comedy managed to trick a lot of people into thinking that Spinal Tap was a real band.
Followed by Marty and his guerrilla film crew, Spinal Tap quickly discovered the challenges of being aging rockers in the modern world, dealt with stuffy record executives, and endured sparsely attended promotional events. They even lost Nigel Tufnel from the band for a short while.

Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for its music mockumentary sequel, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.”
Forty-one years in the making, “The End Continues” is the follow-up to the 1984 classic comedy, “This Is Spinal Tap.” In the original film, director Rob Reiner — playing a fictional version of himself — follows the fictional British metal band across its North American tour. Though the film is scripted, it follows the visual language and conventions of the era’s iconic music documentaries like Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains the Same” and The Band’s “The Last Waltz,” satirizing the dramatic, eccentric and wild behaviors of rock-and-roll musicians.
Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer reprise their roles as Spinal Tap bandmates Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls in “The End Continues.” Reiner also returns, both in front of and behind the camera.

The official synopsis reads: “Forty-one years after the release of the groundbreaking mockumentary ‘This Is Spinal Tap,’ the now estranged bandmates David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls are forced to reunite for one final concert. ‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues’ also marks the resurrection of documentarian Marty Di Bergi (Reiner), who once again tries to capture his favorite metal gods as they contemplate mortality — and the hope that their 12th drummer doesn’t join them in The Great Beyond.
