With Adam Sandler recently reprising a beloved comedy role in Happy Gilmore 2, the actor’s next Netflix film shows off more of his range.

Ahead of the Nov. 14 theatrical premiere of their film Jay Kelly, which then moves to the streamer on Dec. 5, George Clooney praised his co-star as more than “just some goofy comedian” in the Noah Baumbach comedy-drama.

“This film, more than any film Adam has done, shows what a beautiful, heartfelt, soulful actor he is—I kept telling the cast, ‘Don’t call him Sand Man. Don’t talk to him like he’s just some goofy comedian. He’s actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor,'” he told Vanity Fair.

“Because of what his paycheck is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other, beautiful, Uncut Gems kinds of movies, it reminds people of that,” added Clooney. “He’s not just a good comedian.

Sad news to report today. Harris Yulin, the talented character actor whose commanding presence and distinctive voice made him a memorable figure in dozens of films, television series, and stage productions, is dead. He was 87.

With a career spanning six decades, Yulin got his start on the stage but soon made the leap to the big screen. One of his first significant roles found him playing Wyatt Earp in Doc, a revisionist Western which told the story of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Stacey Keach played Doc Holliday, and Faye Dunaway (who Yulin dated for a time) played Kate Elder.

Yulin went on to appear in Night Moves, Ghostbusters II, Clear and Present Danger, The Baby-Sitters Club, Cutthroat Island, Multiplicity, Bean, The Hurricane, Rush Hour 2, Training Day, My Soul to Take, The Place Beyond the Pines, and more. He also played Mel Bernstein in Scarface, the corrupt...

Harris Yulin, the ever-present Emmy-nominated actor who appeared in such films as Scarface, Clear and Present Danger and Training Day and on television in Frasier, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Ozark, has died. He was 87.

Yulin died Tuesday of cardiac arrest in New York City, his family and manager, Sue Leibman, announced.

Although he never found a starring role that made him a household name, Yulin was a familiar face who worked constantly during a career that spanned more than 50 years. “I’m not that high-profile,” he admitted in a 2010 interview with The Irish Times. “I just do the next thing that comes along.”

On Broadway, the character actor performed in 1980’s Watch on the Rhine, 1992’s The Visit, 1997’s The Diary of Anne Frank, 1999’s The Price and 2001’s Hedda Gabler.

He also helmed off-Broadway productions of Baba Goya in 1989, This Lime Tree Bower in 1999 and The Trip to Bountiful...

He would not make his Broadway debut until 1980 when he starred in a revival of Lillian Hellman’s Watch on the Rhine. Multiple Broadway appearances followed, including The Visit, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Price and, his final, Hedda Gabler in 2001.

A little over a year ago, it was reported that Noah Baumbach has been tapped to helm his fourth project with Netflix after Marriage Story, White Noise and The Meyerowitz Stories. Plot details are still kept under wraps and it was only this past January that Netflix revealed the title of the film will be Jay Kelly. Baumbach directs the film from a screenplay written by him and the movie’s co-star, Emily Mortimer. Baumbach reunites with his Meyerowitz Stories star Adam Sandler and pairs him up with George Clooney. Netflix continues to dole out the details of the film little by little and today, we are treated to a single image of the film. Take a gander below.

Back in 2024, we reported that writer-director Noah Baumbach was working with Netflix for the fourth time with his new film Jay Kelly. There hasn’t been much to report on the project since then, but Netflix has now officially announced when we can expect Jay to hit our screens.

The movie, clearly an Oscar hopeful, will head into US and UK cinemas on 14th November for a short run before Jay Kelly debuts on Netflix on 5th December.

On Tuesday, the streaming service released fresh information about Noah Baumbach’s new movie, Jay Kelly, including its release date and a first photo of star George Clooney as the title character.

Jay Kelly will premiere in select theaters on Nov. 14 before streaming on Netflix on Dec. 5.

Long-rumored to be a coming-of-age movie about adults, the official logline for Jay Kelly is slightly more vague: “Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn't know himself.”

In the first photo from the movie, Clooney’s Jay Kelly stands in front of a photograph of Jay Kelly, suggesting that the world-famous celebrity is playing a world-famous celebrity.

Noah Baumbach is getting back in the awards race, and he’s bringing a star-studded cast including George Clooney and Adam Sandler.

Netflix has announced that Baumbach’s upcoming feature “Jay Kelly” will open in theaters on November 14 before hitting the streaming service on December 5. The announcement was accompanied by a photo of Clooney, who plays the title character, walking past a poster of himself.

“Jay Kelly” appears to be a return to the familiar territory of middle aged neuroses for Baumbach, following the apocalyptic ambition of his previous feature, “White Noise.” While little is known about the film’s plot, it is believed to center around the relationship between Clooney’s eponymous character and a longtime friend played by Sandler. A cryptic official synopsis reads “Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself.”

Director Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly will hit theaters Nov. 14 before it begins streaming three weeks later on Dec. 5. Baumbach helmed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Emily Mortimer, and a first-look image of Clooney in the project can be seen above.

Mortimer co-stars in the film that boasts an ensemble cast of Billy Crudup, Laura Dern, Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Patrick Wilson, Nicôle Lecky, Thaddea Graham, Jim Broadbent, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher, Lenny Henry, Josh Hamilton and Greta Gerwig.

Ed Harris has had a long and storied career as an actor, earning high praise for his roles in Westworld, Snowpiercer, The Abyss, and The Truman Show. But he's also an accomplished director, having helmed and starred in the incredible Pollock (2000) about famed painter, Jackson Pollack, and Appaloosa (2008). Harris has been trying to get his next film off the ground, and recently spoke with Collider about its multi-year delay.

While promoting My Dead Friend Zoe, Harris explained the difficulties of getting his next movie, The Ploughman, made. He spoke about how tough it is to find money for an indie film, explaining:

"I haven't been able to get the financing together. It's an indie film that probably costs more than it should, and I’ve been trying to slash the budget down, but I don't want to make it on a shoestring because it deserves certain production values, so I don't know.

Joseph Wambaugh, the writer who mined his years as a Los Angeles Police Department patrolman for a series of bestselling crime books including The Onion Field, The New Centurions, The Blue Knight and The Glitter Dome, and whose literary works were adapted for feature films and television series, died today of esophageal cancer at his home in Rancho Mirage, California. He was 88.

His death was reported to The New York Times by a Wambaugh family friend.

In 1971, eleven years after joining the LAPD, Wambaugh saw his first novel, The New Centurions, published by Little, Brown and Co.
