Image
With Adam Sandler recently reprising a beloved comedy role in Happy Gilmore 2, the actor’s next Netflix film shows off more of his range.

Ahead of the Nov. 14 theatrical premiere of their film Jay Kelly, which then moves to the streamer on Dec. 5, George Clooney praised his co-star as more than “just some goofy comedian” in the Noah Baumbach comedy-drama.

“This film, more than any film Adam has done, shows what a beautiful, heartfelt, soulful actor he is—I kept telling the cast, ‘Don’t call him Sand Man. Don’t talk to him like he’s just some goofy comedian. He’s actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor,'” he told Vanity Fair.

“Because of what his paycheck is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other, beautiful, Uncut Gems kinds of movies, it reminds people of that,” added Clooney. “He’s not just a good comedian.

George Clooney & Adam Sandler Lead First Trailer for Netflix's 'Jay Kelly'
Image
Netflix's Jay Kelly, the next entry in Noah Baumbach's filmography, just got a trailer that unveils an unusual coming-of-age story that stars George Clooney and Adam Sandler. The unexpected pairing seems like the perfect match for a film that follows an actor and his manager confronting their past and present while traveling abroad in Europe.

Netflix has released the first teaser for Jay Kelly, which stars Clooney, Sandler, Laura Dern, and a bevy of familiar faces from Hollywood. It's a rather vague trailer for the film, but it does pull the veil over the comedic and satirical tone that Clooney leans into in the beautifully shot footage. Baumbach, who co-wrote Jay Kelly alongside Emily Mortimer, tends to make films about artists and their personal struggles. He isn't reinventing the wheel here, but perhaps the duo of Clooney and Sandler can provide an exciting new canvas for Baumbach to work with.

George Clooney Hits Back At Critics Who Question His Versatility As An Actor: “I Don’t Give A Sh–“
Image
George Clooney is hitting back at critics who question his range as an actor.

Speaking to Vanity Fair for a preview piece on Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, the two-time Oscar winner didn’t mince words when addressing criticism that his characters are tantamount to playing versions of himself onscreen.

“Do people say that I only play myself? I don’t give a sh–,” the Good Night, and Good Luck actor said. “There aren’t that many guys in my age group that are allowed to do both broad comedies like O Brother [Where Art Though?] and then do Michael Clayton or Syriana [for which he won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award]. So if that means I’m playing myself all the time, I don’t give a sh–.”

Echoing a quote from the upcoming Jay Kelly — where Clooney portrays a 60-something movie star reflecting on his personal and professional life — he added, “Have you ever tried playing yourself? It’s hard to do.

Over the course of three movies, Matt Damon brought Jason Bourne — a character first crafted by author Robert Ludlum — to life in a series of films that some know as The Bourne Trilogy. After unfurling the character’s mysterious spy background and sending him on numerous missions, the time eventually came to pass the baton, with Jeremy Renner picking up the torch and continuing the high-octane franchise in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. Now, more than a full decade since the divisive film first crashed into cinemas, it’s receiving a boost of new life thanks to its streaming arrival on Paramount+. According to FlixPatrol, the Tony Gilroy-directed and co-penned production is clocking in on the Top 10 chart in numerous countries, including Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, alongside other popular titles such as Gladiator II and Top Gun: Maverick.

Matthew McConaughey, Nic Pizzolatto Reunite For 'Mike Hammer' Movie
Image
Mike Hammeris about to look a lot like Rust Cohle — or maybe it's the other way around. The point is: Matthew McConaughey is reuniting with his True Detective creator, Nic Pizzolatto, to bring one of the most iconic, and aggressive, detectives to the big screen, with everyone's favorite Texan taking on the titular role. That's right, the prolifically-penned, pulp-y private eye, Mike Hammer, will be the focus of Pizzolatto's next scripted project.

The news, which was first reported by Deadline, comes on the heels of McConaughey's return to the screen in The Rivals of Amziah King after a six-year absence (if you don't count all the cartoon voice work he's done in the intervening years). And while the film's production house, Skydance, has yet to secure a director, with talents like McConaughey and Pizzolatto on board, it will probably only be a matter of days — rather than months — before a name is announced.

Since then, the Prison Break reboot’s cast list has also expanded to include Mayans M.C. alums Clayton Cardenas and Jr Bourne, as well as Georgie Flores (Kappa Kappa Die) and Myles Bullock (Runaways).

Per Variety, Justified star Margo Martindale has now been tapped to join the pilot as Jessica Strand, “the Warden of one of the deadliest prisons in America.” Other cast additions include another Mayan M.C. star Ray McKinnon as private detective Joe Dahl. At the same time, Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy...

Jay Kelly will premiere in select theaters on Nov. 14 before streaming on Netflix on Dec. 5.

The service also unveiled a first-look still of Clooney as the title character, which you can view below.

In announcing Jay Kelly, Netflix referred to the project as a “heartbreaking comedy,” though little about the project is known apart from that. Per the logline, everybody knows Jay Kelly…but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself.

Baumbach wrote the script for the pic — marking his fourth outing with Netflix — with Emily Mortimer, one of many others featuring in the ensemble. Noah Baumbach’s ‘Jay Kelly’ Gets First Image and Awards-Friendly Release Date
Image
Noah Baumbach is getting back in the awards race, and he’s bringing a star-studded cast including George Clooney and Adam Sandler.

Netflix has announced that Baumbach’s upcoming feature “Jay Kelly” will open in theaters on November 14 before hitting the streaming service on December 5. The announcement was accompanied by a photo of Clooney, who plays the title character, walking past a poster of himself.

“Jay Kelly” appears to be a return to the familiar territory of middle aged neuroses for Baumbach, following the apocalyptic ambition of his previous feature, “White Noise.” While little is known about the film’s plot, it is believed to center around the relationship between Clooney’s eponymous character and a longtime friend played by Sandler. A cryptic official synopsis reads “Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself.”

In addition to Clooney and Sandler, “Jay Kelly” stars Billy Crudup, Laura Dern,...

Class of 1999 (1990) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
Sometimes when I make a video on one of my favorite movies, I find something a little extra upon further viewing. Obviously, there is some research that goes into it as I like to look up what else the writer, director, or actors did or even what possible sequels there are. Class of 1984 is one of my favorite horror adjacent titles out there from the script by Tom Holland and great performances from Roddy McDowell, Perry King, and all of the main gang members. It shows the very real fears of what teachers in bad areas could potentially deal with, only with the knob turned all the way to 11 and it’s immensely rewatchable. While I had heard that there were sequels to the movie, I wrote them off as cash-ins, especially since they were quite a bit after, and the movie was fine as a standalone. Then I...

Adam Sandler's Performance in Netflix's 'Jay Kelly' Is Already Getting Oscar Buzz
Image
Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler could be all set for Oscar glory with his new movie. Sadly, no, it’s not Happy Gilmore 2. The beloved actor and comedian will reunite with Netflix once again for an upcoming coming-of-age comedy-drama, with a source who's seen the movie revealing that, not only will the streamer campaign hard for Sandler to be considered by the Academy, but that could even win a coveted golden statue.

Titled Jay Kelly, the movie is being helmed by Academy Award nominee and Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach, and could be described as a coming-of-middle-age comedy as it follows friends, played by Sandler and George Clooney, who rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic reunion.

Now, buzz from an early screening (via World of Reel) has emerged, with “industry sources, journalists, and test reports” stating that Sandler steals the show in Jay Kelly, with the Billy Madison star delivering a career-best performance.

How Disney gave Val Kilmer one of his most iconic roles!
Image
The late Val Kilmer had a couple of Disney connections fans may have forgotten about!

It’s always sad when a major star passes away at a seemingly too young age. Val Kilmer may have fallen from his 1990s limelight, but it was still jarring to his many fans to hear the actor had passed away at the age of 65 on April 1 after a long battle with throat cancer and pneumonia.

The actor debuted in the 1984 cult comedy Top Secret! That led to turns in Real Genius before his star-making role as Iceman in the 1986 smash Top Gun. After that, Kilmer was a much-in-demand actor starring in numerous hits, including a turn as the Caped Crusader in Batman Forever as well as Heat, The Saint, The Ghost, and the Darkness, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and more.

Kilmer was, by his own admission, a temperamental man who could cause some messes on set.

'That's Not My Job': George Clooney Explains Why He's Done Making Romantic Movies
Image
George Clooney is arguably one of the most popular leading men in Hollywood. However, the actor says he no longer has much interest in the romance genre.

"Look, I'm 63 years old. I'm not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men," Clooney told 60 Minutes. That's not my job. I'm not doing romantic films anymore," he added. The actor is currently preparing for his Broadway debut in the upcoming production of Good Night, and Good Luck. The stage play is adapted from the 2005 film of the same name which starred David Strathairn as the newsman.

Clooney, who appeared in the movie as Fred Friendly, co-wrote the play with Grant Heslov. When asked if he wished he had made the move to Broadway sooner, the actor was candid with his response. John Travolta is an iconic actor, but his career has taken various twists and turns. The actor rose to stardom in the 1970s when he played a role in the television series Welcome Back, Kotter. His TV fame helped land him his iconic role in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, playing smooth-dancing Tony Manero. Soon, Travolta portrayed an equally notable role in the musical Grease as the leading male love interest, Danny Zuko. Travolta has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction.

Despite his status as an Academy Award nominee, Travolta has had plenty of misses in his career. The actor has had multiple movies score a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, including Look Who's Talking Now, Speed Kills, The Poison Rose, Staying Alive, and Life on the Line. ‘Awards Magnet’: Our ridiculously early 2026 Oscar predictions
Image
The 97th Academy Awards just ended, but it's never too early to start thinking about next year's Oscars. Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng make their ridiculously early 2026 Oscar predictions.

The 2025 slate is more akin to the 2023 one than last year's with some big names and past Oscar players in the mix. James Cameron will unfurl Avatar: Fire and Ash in December. Leonardo DiCaprio leads Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. The filmmaker has 11 Oscar nominations and zero wins. Will this be the one to break the duck? Chloé Zhao is back with an adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel Hamnet starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. Both actors have another film in play: Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! for the former and Oliver Hermanus' The History of Sound for the latter. The Bride! is one of two Frankenstein films coming out this year, the...

Ed Harris Discusses Why his Film 'The Ploughman' has Been Stuck in Limbo for Years
Image
Ed Harris has had a long and storied career as an actor, earning high praise for his roles in Westworld, Snowpiercer, The Abyss, and The Truman Show. But he's also an accomplished director, having helmed and starred in the incredible Pollock (2000) about famed painter, Jackson Pollack, and Appaloosa (2008). Harris has been trying to get his next film off the ground, and recently spoke with Collider about its multi-year delay.

While promoting My Dead Friend Zoe, Harris explained the difficulties of getting his next movie, The Ploughman, made. He spoke about how tough it is to find money for an indie film, explaining:

"I haven't been able to get the financing together. It's an indie film that probably costs more than it should, and I’ve been trying to slash the budget down, but I don't want to make it on a shoestring because it deserves certain production values, so I don't know.

Joseph Wambaugh, the writer who mined his years as a Los Angeles Police Department patrolman for a series of bestselling crime books including The Onion Field, The New Centurions, The Blue Knight and The Glitter Dome, and whose literary works were adapted for feature films and television series, died today of esophageal cancer at his home in Rancho Mirage, California. He was 88.

His death was reported to The New York Times by a Wambaugh family friend.

In 1971, eleven years after joining the LAPD, Wambaugh saw his first novel, The New Centurions, published by Little, Brown and Co. The story of rookie LAPD cops in the early 1960s became his first bestseller and, the following year, the first movie based on his work. The film adaptation starred George C. Scott and Stacy Keach.
