Noah Wyle Hints at Potential ER Cameos in The Pitt Season 2
Image
Noah Wyle, the star of the acclaimed HBO Max series The Pitt, says "never say never" when it comes to cameos from his former castmates from ER. Wyle, who played Dr. John Carter on the NBC medical drama for almost ten years, has returned to the hospital floors as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch.

In an interview with Variety, Noah Wyle said that The Pitt’s success has garnered the attention of some “really high-profile actors” who want to make an appearance on the show. While he’s open to the idea, calling it “tempting”, Wyle said the guests could distract some viewers from the show itself. Read the rest of the quote below.

One of the great things about Cathy Sandrich, our casting director, is she brings in these people that you may know that work, but you don’t necessarily bring their intended baggage to the role that they...

Noah Wyle gives unfortunate update on possible ER reunion in The Pitt season 2
Image
Noah Wyle just threw some cold water on the hopes of fans that The Pitt could stage an ER reunion anytime soon!

It’s been over thirty years since Wyle broke out as part of the original cast of ER. His run on the Emmy-winning, long-running NBC medical drama saw John Carter transition from a bumbling intern to a respected leader among the staff. He was a fixture for 12 seasons with a few appearances in the 15th.

Wyle has seen more success in TV, but nothing like The Pitt, which is produced by ER co-creator John Wells. The HBO drama has become one of the hottest shows in 2025, winning over viewers and near-universal critical acclaim. The frenetic look at a hospital overwhelmed by emergencies keeps viewers enthralled with its breakneck pace and fantastic cast.

The show looks ready to dominate the Emmys and perhaps earn Wyle a long-overdue statue. Work...

The 15 Best Episodes Of ER, Ranked
Image
It's not an exaggeration to say that "ER" is one of the most revered television shows of all time. Considered the gold standard of TV medical dramas, "ER" most certainly paved the way for contemporary medical series such as "Grey's Anatomy," the only such show that boasts more episodes. The recipient of 23 Emmy awards over 15 seasons, "ER" has been equally lauded for its writing, acting, medical accuracy, and high-quality production.

Accolades aside, "ER" leaves an imprint on anyone who watches it, though its popularity has waned in recent years. Thankfully, with the massive success of "The Pitt," produced by "ER" star Noah Wyle alongside Scott Gemmill and John Wells, "ER" has gained a new wave of fans experiencing the show for the first time.

While many "ER" fans prefer the first several seasons, "ER" was always good, even a dozen seasons in, and it was very often great. What follows...

John Wells Reveals ‘ER’ Storylines He Got the Most Blowback About
Image
John Wells is a name that many know well, given his work on TV shows including ER, Animal Kingdom, Shameless, and now The Pitt, just to name a few. And while the storylines covered on shows have changed over the years, there are some for which, when he put them on air, there were conversations behind the scenes. “I had huge discussions during the ER days about racial storylines. ‘Could this Black character actually kiss this white character?’ This in 1998! I was like, ‘Guys, what are we even talking about?'” he revealed to The Hollywood Reporter. He continued, “A big storyline we did in the third season of ER was Gloria Reuben‘s character being HIV positive. There were real conversations where they said, ‘So, she’s going to survive? Should she survive?’ It’s HIV. It’s terrifying. But ...

Sam Rockwell Reveals Why He Lost Out On Iconic ER Role
Image
The Bad Guys 2star Sam Rockwell explains how he lost out of Noah Wyles' part in ER.

Speaking toEntertainment Weekly, Rockwell recalled his attempt to fit the part of an emergency room doctor while auditioning for 1994's ER. "I came with a lab coat and a hypodermic [needle]. But not the needle part, just the plastic part," Rockwell said. "It's almost like I brought a gun to an audition. They were looking at me with this hypodermic thing... There was no needle! Just to be clear. I'm not that crazy." Rockwell added that he "though I nailed it."

Created by Michael Crichton, ER premiered on NBC back in 1994 and immediately established itself as the then-latest hit medical drama on TV. The series began with a star-studded ensemble cast including Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Sherry Stringfield, Julianna Margulies, Eriq La Salle, and The Pitt star Noah Wyle. CBS: ‘FBI’ Offshoot ‘CIA’ Pushed To Midseason With Warren Leight As New Showrunner; ‘Watson’ Moves To Fall
Image
Exclusive: Mothership FBI will be the only representative of the crime drama franchise on CBS’ fall schedule. Offshoot CIA starring Tom Ellis, which received a straight-to-series order in April, is being delayed until midseason and is undergoing a showrunner change. Watson, which had been set to return for a second season in midseason, will now be on for fall.

FBI: Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins, who originally was tapped to lead the series and co-write the pilot script with FBI, Law & Order & Chicago franchise boss Dick Wolf, has exited. He is being replaced by Wolf universe veteran Warren Leight, known for his two stints as showrunner of Law & Order: Svu.

There had been early signs that CIA may not be ready for fall. The original plan was for three characters, including the one played by Ellis, to be introduced in a planted spinoff episode of mothership FBI which...

'Blue Bloods' Spin-Off 'Boston Blue' Cast 'ER' Favorite Gloria Reuben
Image
There are a few things a spin-off can do to make the series as popular as the original show. One of those things is adding stellar talent to its cast, which includes fan-favorite actors from some of the most popular shows in television history. Blue Bloods' spin-off, Boston Blue, is going this route by adding an ER favorite to its cast. Gloria Reuben is the latest to join Boston Blue's growing cast, which is expected to premiere on CBS this fall starring Donnie Wahlberg, Ernie Hudson, Sonequa Martin-Green, Maggie Lawson, and more. The final episode of the original series aired on Dec. 13, 2024, and news of the spin-off was revealed on Feb. 18, 2025.

George Clooney Gushes Over ER Co-Star Noah Wyle on 'The Pitt'
Image
2025's excellent medical drama, The Pitt, has proved to be an impactful show that revitalized the genre's popularity beyond expectations. It was realistic and raw in how it mirrors the experience of real-life healthcare workers. It was also an emotional ride with compelling characters who kept us hooked for weeks on their 15-hour shift at the ER of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. All the performances were staggering, but it was Noah Wyle's which stood out the most. His performance as Dr. Michael Robinavitch, a.k.a. Robby is one of the year's best, and his co-star in the classic show ER, Hollywood (and now Broadway) legend George Clooney, agrees with this.

As reported by TV Insider, the O Brother, Where Art Thou? and From Dusk Till Dawn star appeared on the show Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his current Broadway hit, Good Night, and Good Luck.

Eriq La Salle on developing ‘On Call’s’ ‘imperfect’ hybrid style and returning to acting
Image
Since his time on ER, Eriq La Salle has focused on directing for most of the past two decades, becoming a staple in the Dick Wolf universe. He's worked on Law & Order: Svu, Law & Order, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Chicago P.D. (including serving as an executive producer for five years), Chicago Med, and FBI. So it was no surprise when he got the call for the prolific producer's new drama On Call.

"They just called up and said, 'Hey, we've got this cool pilot, we'd love you to do it,'" La Salle tells Gold Derby. "I took a look at it and read it in, I don't know, like, 29 minutes, and said 'yes' in 30 minutes. It was just pretty much a no-brainer."

Signing on in 30 minutes is apt since On Call is Wolf's first half-hour series. The Prime Video police drama follows veteran officer Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario...

‘ER’ alum Eriq La Salle looks back on the Benton-Carter rehab moment 25 years later: ‘If you have to go to hell, I’m coming to hell with you’
Image
One of ER fans' favorite sequences is also Eriq La Salle's.

May 18 marks the 25th anniversary of the Season 6 finale of the NBC hit, "May Day," the ending of which is a top-tier moment in the Benton (La Salle)-Carter (Noah Wyle) bromance. "It was definitely one of my favorite episodes," La Salle tells Gold Derby.

Towards the end of the hour, Dr. Benton, Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards), Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes), Dr. Chen (Ming-Na Wen), and Dr. Anspaugh (John Aylward) stage an intervention for Dr. Carter, who had developed a pain medication addiction after surviving the brutal attack earlier in the season by schizophrenic patient Paul Sobriki (David Krumholtz) that killed Lucy (Kellie Martin).

Not a man of many words anyway, Benton does not say anything during the intervention, from which a defiant Carter storms out and quits. Benton follows his mentee and former med student outside,...

On Call: Prime Video Cancels Police Drama But Season Two Being Shopped Elsewhere
On Call will not be returning for a second season on Prime Video. According to Deadline, the streaming service has canceled that police drama after one season of eight episodes.

The series from Wolf Entertainment will be shopped to other outlets, though, so viewers could see it return to the small screen at some point. Peacock is one possible home for the series.

Eriq La Salle, Lori Loughlin, Rich Ting, Troian Bellisario, and Brandon Larracuente star in the series, which follows the police officers of the Long Beach Police Department. The series focuses on a veteran female training officer (Belisario) and her rookie male ride-along (Larracuente).

The following was said about the decision to cancel the series:

Prime Video's Crime Series With 92% Rt Audience Score Cancelled, But Season 2 May Get Picked Up By New Platform
Image
Prime Video has managed to build out several massive hits for itself. Reacher is one of the most successful series in all streaming. Superhero subversions like The Boysand Invincible are closely watched, while the dystopian video game Fallout became a quick favorite among audiences, gaining awards buzz and accumulating billions of minutes streamed for its first installment.

There is an argument to be made that the streamer, which gains a massive subscriber boost due to its direct connection with Amazon's delivery service, struggles outside certain avenues. The streamer is home to big action thrillers that would fit well on the big screen. Along with Reacher, Prime Video has The Terminal List, Alex Cross, and the Jack Ryan franchise. But with The Summer I Turned Pretty ending later this year, it resurfaces the idea that the platform has struggled to make much of its smaller originals and more scaled-down stories. The latest news reaffirms the argument.

The Fate of Another Dick Wolf Show Has Been Decided by Prime Video
Image
Dick Wolf's first streaming procedural, On Call, is not returning for Season 2 on Prime Video. Deadline reports that the show, starring Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente, has been canceled at the global streamer after Prime Video passed on another season. However, there is some good news for fans of the half-hour police drama. Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television are engaged in talks for a second season on another platform. The cancellation is a surprising development, but not entirely unforeseen given the significant time-lapse between Season 1's debut date and news of renewal or cancellation.

It is being reported that Prime Video was considering a two-season renewal, but the deal came with strings attached. They wanted the two production companies to reduce the series' premium, but that was a non-starter for them, and the two-season deal fell apart. TV economics are changing, and sometimes what worked before no longer does.

Prime Video Pulls the Plug on Dick Wolf's New Cop Drama With 92% Audience Score
Image
Fans of On Call on Prime Video have gotten some bad news. It has been revealed that the show will not be returning with new episodes on the streaming platform, but not all hope is lost for fans of the series just yet.

Per Deadline, On Call will not be moving forward with a second season on Prime Video. It was also largely enjoyed by viewers, earning a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, despite its mixed critics' rating of 53%.

‘On Call’ Done On Prime Video After Renewal Talks Fall Through; Drama Being Shopped To Other Buyers
Image
Exclusive: Amazon is not proceeding with a second season of half-hour action police drama On Call, from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, sources tell Deadline. The series, starring Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente, has been shopped to other platforms, and two of them have engaged in discussions about a potential second season, I hear.

This is a somewhat surprising development as On Call, created by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, has done well, reaching the #1 slot on Prime Video in the U.S. following the January 9 drop of all eight episodes and earning 92% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. (The series received mixed reactions from critics.)

Indeed, Amazon a few weeks ago approached the producers of the show about a two-season renewal, sources said. It was looking good until the offer was accompanied by a request to reduce the premium on the series, I hear. Under the widely used current cost-plus streaming compensation model,...

‘FBI’ Will Return on a New Night on CBS After Spin-Off Cancellations
Image
The 2025-2026 TV season brings major changes for the FBI franchise. Following the cancellation of two shows, the list was whittled down, leaving the flagship series as the only one to return for a new season. Even more changes are coming this fall with CBS' announcement that FBI will now move to Mondays from Tuesdays. The new Tom Ellis-led FBI spin-off, CIA, will join the flagship series. While FBI Tuesdays are no more, Dick Wolf Mondays have become a thing with the introduction of a new offbeat comedy, Dmv. The comedy will air at 8:30 pm and the two FBI shows will kick off at 9 pm Et to 11 p.m. Et. Tuesdays have been taken over by the number 1 franchise in the world, NCIS.

Dmv, based on award-winning author Katherine Heiny's short story, "is a single-camera workplace comedy set at the place everyone dreads going most: the Dmv.

‘The Equalizer’ Starring Queen Latifah Canceled By CBS After 5 Seasons
Image
Robyn McCall has done her final quest for justice. CBS has opted not to renew crime drama The Equalizer, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah, for a sixth season. This was the last CBS scripted series or pilot awaiting to learn their fate ahead of the network’s 2025-26 schedule announcement on May 7.

There are no plans for The Equalizer, produced by Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, to be shopped, I hear. Sunday’s Season 5 finale now will serve as a series finale.

As Deadline previously reported, The Equalizer had been in consideration for what was expected to be a 13-episode sixth and final season. Odds were always 50-50 at best, but there had been promising signs. Since finances play a key role in any renewal conversations these days, I hear producers of The Equalizer had agreed to reduce the budget of the show to the levels CBS had asked for,...

A Desperate NBC Spent $13 Million Per Episode, Way More Than Even Game of Thrones, For George Clooney’s Medical Drama ‘ER’
Image
Back on September 19, 1994, NBC rolled the dice with ER, the medical drama that set the ’90s TV scene on fire. Critics couldn’t get enough of it, and viewers were hooked on the chaotic world of emergency rooms.

Fast forward to 2025, and with the streaming bubble long burst, nostalgia for good old-fashioned linear TV is making a comeback. Fans are craving the days of epic seasons, fewer breaks, and more drama in every episode. And guess what? The classic medical dramas are thus benefiting, basking in the spotlight!

It turns out, what was once “old TV” is now exactly what the people want. But when NBC launched ER, they didn’t just throw together another show, they spent a staggering $13 million per episode, outspending even Game of Thrones at the time. And the result was a show that not only made George Clooney a household name but also helped redefine what TV could be.

Why Noah Wyle Left NBC's ER

In the very first episode of "ER" — the landmark medical drama created by "Jurassic Park" novelist Michael Crichton — we meet John Carter, an ambitious but obviously overwhelmed third-year medical student played by Noah Wyle. Alongside other original cast members Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Eriq La Salle, and Sherry Stringfield, just to name a few, Wyle's John helped shape the word of "ER," a gritty, realistic medical show set in Chicago's fictional County General Hospital. Wyle and Carter did leave "ER" full-time in the show's 11th season — though he made cameo appearances as the show drew to a close in its season 15 — but when John Carter finished out his run on the "ER," he became the show's longest-running character.

So why did Wyle leave the show that made him famous? In April 2005, CBS News reported that Wyle would leave the show as a regular but agreed to return for four...

The Best ‘E.R.’ Episodes to Watch After ‘The Pitt’
Image
In the post peak-tv landscape of 2025, as the streaming bubble has burst 50 times over, what once was old is new again. The public yearns for the days of linear television’s dominance, when their favorite shows aired seasons longer than six episodes and took hiatuses shorter than three years. And from these cries, a staple television genre has come back in a blaze of glory: the medical procedural.

Netflix has “Pulse,” a (very bad) soapy romance in a hospital that feels like a conscious throwback to mid-2000s peak “Grey’s Anatomy.” ABC has “Doctor Odyssey,” a cheeky cocktail of Ryan Murphy excess starring Joshua Jackson as a DILFy cruise ship physician. NBC has “St. Denis Medical,” an amusing mockumentary sitcom set at a hospital, and “Brilliant Minds,” which is basically “House” if House was explicitly gay. CBS has “Watson,” which is also basically just “House” except based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes sidekick.

Noah Wyle Was Nearing a ‘Nervous Breakdown.’ Then Came ‘The Pitt’: It’s ‘Infuriating We Can’t Come to a Consensus’ on Masks and Vaccines
Image
Noah Wyle is sitting in a corner booth at the Smoke House, a classic Hollywood haunt across from the Warner Bros. lot that he began to frequent when he was making “ER,” the groundbreaking medical drama that launched his career 30 years ago. After he orders a vodka martini up with an olive and some garlic cheese bread (“Even though it probably will be on the list of things I discuss with my oncologist”), Wyle launches into an anecdote about the time he arrived at the Smoke House with George Clooney, Anthony Edwards and Eriq La Salle, all in costume, with Edwards’ young son, Bailey, in tow.

“Bailey started to choke on a french fry, and the four of us fucking panicked,” he says with a raspy cackle. “A busboy walked over and stuck his finger in Bailey’s mouth and fished it out, and the rest of the restaurant got...

This New Police Drama Has Been Dominating Prime Video's Top 10 for Nearly 2 Months (& You Should Really Watch It)
Image
Nearly two months after its Prime Video premiere, On Call remains in the streamer's daily Top 10 ranking. The police drama series hails from executive producer Dick Wolf, a master of the procedural drama genre.

According to FlixPatrol, On Call has been hovering around the No. 5 and No. 6 spots in Prime Video's Top 10 this week. This marks a bit of a drop for the police drama, which spent the first week in the No. 1 spot on the streamer's TV Top 10. This achievement led to YouTuber Mr. Beast's reality competition series Beast Games finally being bumped out of the top spot. FlixPatrol is also reporting that On Call has been in Prime Video's Top 10 for 55 days this year, meaning that the show has only spent a couple of days off of the list.

While On Call received mixed reviews from critics, with review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes noting a 54 percent approval rating,...

Troian Bellisario's New Police Drama Is Sitting High On Prime Video's Top Charts
Image
Troian Bellisario has made her mark in a number of projects across several genres. Her TV career before "On Call" includes notable guest turns in shows like "NCIS" and "Suits," as well as the title she's best known for: Freeform's teen drama series "Pretty Little Liars," where she starred as central character Spencer Hasting throughout the show's duration -- and eventually also got to portray the villainous Alex Drake, Spencer's twin sister.

Meanwhile, Bellisario's movie résumé ranges from artsy drama and comedy to science fiction and outright horror. In 2015, she notably starred in the remake of Pascal Laugier's "Martyrs" (2008), one of the best (and most gruesome scary) horror movies ever filmed. While the U.S. version didn't quite reach the blood-spattered heights of the French original, Bellisario's own visibility has only continued to increase since that film ... and with her newest success story on Amazon Prime Video, her...

95-Year-Old ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ Actor Bill Walker Talks Fighting Racism in Hollywood in Unearthed Interview
Image
The SAG-AFTRA Foundation kicked off Black History Month by launching the fourth season of its Legacy Collection, a series of more than 200 never-before-seen career retrospective interviews.

This season focuses on trailblazing Black film and TV actors — beginning with the late Bill Walker, whose career spanned nearly 50 years and more than 100 films and TV shows, including “The Killers,” “The Long Hot Summer” and “Our Man Flint.” Remember Reverend Sykes, who urges Scout a.k.a. Jean Louise to “stand up, your father’s passin’” as Gregory Peck’s Atticus Finch leaves the courtroom near the end of “To Kill a Mockingbird”? That’s Walker in action.

The veteran actor, who also served on the board of directors of the Screen Actors Guild from 1952 to 1971 (only the third Black person to do so), was interviewed about his life and career just seven weeks before he died in January 1992. Then 95 years old, Walker...

'On Call' Is the "Polar Opposite" of Troian Bellisario's Last Hit Show
Image
For Troian Bellisario, starring in Prime Video's gritty new procedural, On Call, couldn’t be more different than her Pretty Little Liars experience. In that show, Bellisario played Spencer Hastings, a people-pleasing yet highly competitive young woman who delivered some of the greatest lines on the popular Freeform show, which ran for seven seasons from 2010-2017. It’s another world entirely for the Dick Wolf-produced On Call, but the actress still credits her time on Pretty Little Liars for honing her chops.

“It’s very different,” Bellisario told MovieWeb about her On Call vs. Pll experience. “What was really wonderful stepping from that show [into On Call], is that you literally couldn't have, like, shaken a bag and gotten a more polar opposite world." Bellisario continued:

"It’s a primarily male-dominated world [in On Call]. I mean, my hair was never down except for one time. I remember I showed up on set with my...

'On Call': Dick Wolf Police Procedural Tops Prime Video Streaming Chart
Image
Law & Order creator Dick Wolf's new police procedural, On Call, recently debuted on Prime Video and is already dominating the streamer's Top 10 list. The show is currently sitting at number one, was co-created by Tim Walsh (Chicago P.D.) and Elliot Wolf (Law & Order: Criminal Justice System), and is the first straight-to-streaming project for the legendary producer.

On Call follows seasoned Officer Traci Harmon and rookie Officer Alex Diaz as they field calls in Long Beach, California. The production of the show is gritty and realistic, relying on handheld cameras along with body cam footage. It often feels like it's a documentary series rather than a dramatic police procedural.

Rounding out the cast is Lori Loughlin (Full House) as Lieutenant Bishop, Rich Ting (Squid Game) as Sergeant Tyson Koyama, and the always great Eriq La Salle (ER) as Sergeant Lasman. La Salle has been a producer at Wolf Entertainment for several years,...
