The Chicken Sisters Season 2 Review: Serving Up Secrets and Sisterhood
Image
Returning to the fictional Southern town of Merinac for the second season of The Chicken Sisters feels like putting on a favorite old record. There’s a warmth to its grooves, a familiarity that’s instantly comforting. The show’s creative team understands this, leaning into the lived-in atmosphere eight months after the rival chicken joints, Mimi’s and Frannie’s, have merged.

The once-feuding Moore and Hillier families exist in a state of fragile peace. Amanda (Schuyler Fisk) and her mother-in-law Nancy (Lea Thompson) now care for Amanda’s sharp-tongued mother, Gus (Wendie Malick), while sister Mae (Genevieve Angelson) is back for good and planning a wedding.

The series smartly uses our existing knowledge of these characters to build its new foundation. It doesn’t waste time with reintroductions. Instead, it places a narrative fuse right in the center of town: the impending broadcast of Ultimate Kitchen Clash, the...

‘Shrinking’ Boss Reveals What It’s Like Writing Lines for Harrison Ford
Image
When Bill Lawrence and his Shrinking co-creators were writing the show’s second season, they knew that casting the part of Louis — the drunk driver who killed the wife of Jason Segel’s Jimmy — was going to be extremely difficult. Segel suggested tapping Brett Goldstein, but Lawrence was resistant. “I kept thinking, ‘He’s known as [Ted Lasso’s] Roy Kent, and he’s too gruff,’ ” says the showrunner. He eventually agreed to let Goldstein take on the role on one condition: that he shave his signature facial hair to make the character, a pivotal element of the season-two plotline, more vulnerable. “I called Brett up

and said, ‘If you think you can do this, you should, but if you screw it up, you’re going to ruin the show and it’s going to get canceled,’ ” Lawrence recalls with a laugh. “In the end I thought he just killed it, and I was so proud of him,...

The Stargate Actress You Forgot Had A Cameo In Young Sheldon
Image
If you're a fan of "Young Sheldon," you probably remember Dr. Carol Lee, a physics expert and former member of Ibm's Watson Research Center, played by Ming-Na Wen. The character only shows up in one episode — season 5's "A Free Scratcher and Feminine Wiles" — but she makes a pretty significant impact on the titular young Sheldon Cooper, played by Iain Armitage. What you might not know is that Wen was also a major part of "Stargate Universe," where she played Camile Wray.

I'll back up for one second, though — what's Carol Lee's deal on "Young Sheldon?" Well, in "A Free Scratcher and Feminine Wiles," Dr. Lee joins the Experimental Cosmology Center at East Texas Tech, where she meets Sheldon, Dr. Grant Linkletter (Ed Begley Jr.), and Dr. John Burgess Whitney Sturgis (Wallace Shawn) after being appointed by the university's president Linda Hagermeyer (Wendie Malick). Dr. Lee's purpose is, more or less,...

'Night Court' Star Gives a Devastating Update Following Season 4 Cancellation
Image
Things were looking grim for the Melissa Rauch-led Night Court reboot at NBC following its cancellation after three seasons. Despite hopes from the team that the sitcom could find a new home for courtroom hijinks by shopping the series, initial reports from TV Line revealed that nobody was biting on bringing back Judge Abby Stone and her staff for another run. Now, Rauch has delivered the show its sentence. In a recent post on Instagram, she finally addressed the show's end and revealed that, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the Manhattan municipal court will be remaining closed.

"I have held off on posting anything about Night Court not continuing until I knew we did everything in our power to find another home for it," Rauch said to open her post. As a longtime fan of the original Reinhold Weege series starring Harry Anderson, the reboot was a...

'I Didn't Want This': Melissa Rauch Confirms Night Court's Unfortunate Fate in Emotional Post
Image
It's official: the new Night Court is finished. After three seasons, NBC canceled the show, but fans were hoping that it could potentially be picked up elsewhere for a Season 4. Those efforts have since been exhausted with no other place to go, as series star Melissa Rauch shared in an emotional post on social media.

"I have held off on posting anything about Night Court not continuing until I knew we did everything in our power to find another home for it," Rauch began on Instagram, including a slideshow of different images taken from behind the scenes on the set. "Perhaps it was being raised on The Goonies 'Never Say Die' motto or straight up denial that I didn’t want this incredibly special experience to come to an end. Melissa Rauch Says ‘Night Court’ Is Officially Dead After ‘We Did Everything to Find Another Home for It’: ‘I Didn’t Want This’ to Be the End
Image
“Night Court” star Melissa Rauch has spoken out about the cancellation of the NBC sitcom after three seasons, writing on Instagram, “We did everything in our power to find another home for it.”

“Perhaps it was being raised on The Goonies ‘Never Say Die’ motto or straight up denial that I didn’t want this incredibly special experience to come to an end. That said, after turning over all the stones there were to be turned over, we’ve learned that it is officially the hour to say ‘farewell.’ Or at least ‘Until next time,'” Rauch wrote in a lengthy caption accompanied by a montage of photos from the “Night Court” set.

Rauch was the star and executive producer of the series, a follow-up to the beloved 1980s sitcom that ran for nine seasons on NBC. Upon news of the series’ cancellation in May, sources told Variety that Warner Bros. Television...

‘Night Court’ Star Melissa Rauch Bids Farewell to Reboot After Doing ‘Everything in Our Power to Find Another Home’
Image
Melissa Rauch officially bid farewell to “Night Court” on Wednesday, breaking the news that the reboot series was unable to find another home after its cancellation at NBC.

“I have held off on posting anything about ‘Night Court’ not continuing until I knew we did everything in our power to find another home for it,” Rauch said in a Wednesday Instagram post, adding that the Goonies “Never Say Die” motto or “straight up denial” led her to hope the “incredibly special experience” wouldn’t be coming to an end.

“That said, after turning over all the stones there were to be turned over, we’ve learned that it is officially the hour to say ‘farewell.’ Or at least ‘Until next time,'” Rauch continued.

The news comes just over a month after NBC opted not to renew “Night Court” for the upcoming 2025-26 broadcast season, canceling the sitcom after three...

The Pitt And Shrinking Are Properly Exploring A Devastating Ailment (And It's About Time)
Image
Though conversations around mental health and the portrayal of various ailments that affect the brain have really improved in pop culture in recent years, one topic has mostly still been the subject of either crass jokes or melodrama: any kind of dementia. Whether it's something sort of silly like Sophia (Estelle Getty) on "The Golden Girls" being forgetful and becoming extra blunt after a stroke, or heart-breakingly tragic like one lover forgetting another in the film "The Notebook," mentions of dementia tend to be inaccurate at best and genuinely harmful at worst. While a few films over the years have explored various forms of dementia with nuance, it's been especially rare on TV, until now.

It makes sense that the hit HBO Max series "The Pitt" would take its portrayal of characters with dementia seriously, as it has been praised for its incredible medical accuracy, but the Apple TV+ comedy...

Clancy Brown, Joel McHale, and more actors who self-submitted at this year’s Emmys
Image
Networks and studios submit hundreds of actors for Emmy consideration each year, but those not officially entered can still self-submit for a chance at receiving a nomination. This year, that happened in droves.

Recognizable names like Clancy Brown (supporting actor for The Penguin) and Joel McHale (guest star on The Bear) were not on the studios' lists that were made public prior to the ballots being released on June 12. It's possible they were added later by the networks, or that the performers self-submitted. Note that Television Academy members get one free submission each year; otherwise, entry fees are based on several factors. Here is the fine print from the Emmys rulebook:

Individual achievement entries have a processing charge of $125 per submission. In addition to the $125 processing charge, each entrant is charged a $100 entry fee per individual listed on the entry, e.g., for an individual achievement entry with two entrants,...

One Of Harrison Ford's Shrinking Co-Stars Had A Horrible Indiana Jones Audition
Image
Bill Lawrence's "Shrinking" features an incredible band of actors, including their dream casting of Harrison Ford as the show's aging but sharp therapist, Dr. Paul Rhoades. In another time, however, Ford might have shared the screen with one of his co-stars much sooner in one of his most iconic films, if only the co-star in question hadn't been suffering from a rough morning due to the night before.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wendie Malick, who plays Paul's love interest on the show, Dr. Julie Baram, revealed that she once auditioned for a part in a then-upcoming adventure film being handled by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas called "Raiders of the Lost Ark." As Malick recalls, "I get this call: Steven Spielberg, who I don't think I knew who he was at that time, and this guy, George Lucas. They want you to come in to meet them.

Real Reason Why ‘Night Court’ on NBC Was Canceled After Season 3
Image
Well, it looks like the gavel has come down on Night Court, and this time, there’s no appeal. Yep, NBC’s revival of the beloved ‘80s courtroom comedy brought back all the quirky charm, fast-paced humor, and of course, John Larroquette as the ever-sarcastic Dan Fielding. Definitely, it had everything, from nostalgia, eccentric defendants, awkward flirtations, to bailiffs who knew how to throw side-eyes.

For three seasons, Night Court gave us throwback laughs with a modern twist. Sadly, just when we started to feel like the courtroom was back in session for good, NBC shut the door right to our faces. Yup, the revival has officially been canceled after season 3, leaving us with courtroom chaos wondering what went wrong. Of course, it had its loyal audience and a strong start, but unfortunately, the show struggled to hold its case in NBC’s primetime lineup. So, guys, the court is adjourned and for good.

The Effort To Save Night Court Gets A Disappointing Update After NBC Canceled The Revival
Image
The chances of Night Courtseason 4 getting saved get a disappointing update. Debuting on NBC in January 2023, with Dan Rubin as showrunner, the reboot of the popular 1980s sitcom is headlined by The Big Bang Theory alum Melissa Rauch as Abby Stone. The daughter of the late Harry Stone, Abby soon links up with original Night Court character Dan Fielding (John Larroquette). Although the comedy got off to a strong start, ratings dropped sharply soon after its high-profile premiere. The reboot was cancelled in May after three seasons.

It had been mentioned that Warner Bros. Television, one of the production companies behind the reboot, would shop the series to other potential platforms after it was axed by NBC. But in an update from TVLine, it's mentioned that the chances of Night Court season 4 happening are “not great”:

Early efforts to shop the sitcom revival, which was cancelled after three seasons on NBC,...

“They cut that character”: ‘Modern Family’ Star Reveals Show Almost Explained Why It Copied ‘The Office’
Image
Modern Family was among the more unexpected entries in the world of sitcoms, thanks to its unparalleled storyline and the way it was shot, but what’s even more surprising is how magnificent a mark it left on the viewers and its fans’ hearts. As a mockumentary sitcom, it ruled the screens for eleven stunning years, for eleven entertaining seasons.

Yet, as much as it was a one-of-a-kind series in many respects, the groundbreaking show still copied one other smash-hit television series from NBC, The Office, in one aspect. And, while this wasn’t a characteristic explained or addressed by the creators before, actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson recently stepped up to shed light on the same.

These Two 'Shrinking' Stars Almost Worked Together in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
Image
Harrison Ford and Wendie Malick are sharing the screen these days on Apple TV+'s Shrinking, but they could have been co-stars much earlier. Malick auditioned to play hard-drinking adventurer Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but a schedule change left her unprepared. She discussed the incident on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's podcast, Dinner's On Me, this week.

Director Steven Spielberg apparently saw the then-unknown actor in an Excedrin commercial, and had her come in to audition to play the female lead opposite Ford's Indiana Jones: "I get this call: Steven Spielberg, who I don't think I knew who he was at that time, and this guy, George Lucas. They want you to come in to meet them. It was Valentine's Day...we just talked, and they put me on film. We laughed and had a lovely time for, I don't know, like, 45 minutes or something."

Jason Segel Confirms More 'How I Met Your Mother' Reunions in 'Shrinking' Season 3

Season 2 of Shrinking delivered some big laughs, a lot of tears, and a surprising How I Met Your Mother reunion. Jason Segel (who played Marshall Erikson in Himym) stars in Apple TV+'s hit series as Jimmy Laird, a therapist who can't get his own life together after the unexpected death of his wife. Season 2 included a very surprising cameo from his former Himym co-star, Cobie Smulders, as Sofi, whom Jimmy buys a car from for his daughter. The crazy courtroom won't be back for the 2025-26 TV season. NBC has cancelled Night Court and any plans for a fourth season. The show's third season, which aired 18 episodes, ended on a cliffhanger on Tuesday.

A workplace comedy series, the Night Court TV show stars Melissa Rauch, Lacretta, Wendie Malick, Nyambi Nyambi, and John Larroquette. The new story follows Abracadabra “Abby” Stone (Rauch), a judge following in the footsteps of her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson). She takes on the challenge of overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court, just as he did. 'Night Court's Future Has Been Judged by NBC
Image
The NBC jury has reached a verdict, your honor, and it is bad news for Night Court fans. The reboot of the classic Reinhold Weege sitcom was firmly on the bubble for the network after drawing a more modest audience than its first two seasons under Dan Rubin. In the end, Melissa Rauch will not be returning to the bench as Judge Abby Stone for Season 4, as the series has been cancelled per Deadline. The news comes just days after Season 3 served out the final two episodes of its 18-episode sentence with a bombshell reveal that changed everything for Judge Stone.

Night Court kicked off on a white-hot note when it debuted in 2023. According to Nielsen ratings at the time, the reboot had been NBC's biggest comedy premiere since 2017, only being surpassed by the reboot of Will & Grace. Since then, the series settled into a groove, bringing zany courtroom...

‘Lopez vs. Lopez’ and ’Night Court’ Canceled After Three Seasons Apiece at NBC
Image
NBC has canceled Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court after three seasons apiece. The cancellations come on the final business day before NBC’s upfront — when networks pitch advertisers on their coming slates — on Monday.

Night Court aired its third season finale, which will now serve as a series ender, on Tuesday — although sources say Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show with Universal TV, may try to find a new home for the series.

This Night Court stars Melissa Rauch (who also executive produces) as Abby Stone, a judge in Manhattan’s often chaotic night court and the daughter of Harry Stone, the lead character in the original 1984-92 series (who was played by the late Harry Anderson). John Larroquette reprised his role from the original series as attorney Dan Fielding; the season three cast also includes Lacretta, Nyambi Nyambi and Wendie Malick. Marsha Warfield made several appearances as Roz,...

‘Night Court,’ ‘Lopez vs. Lopez’ Canceled After 3 Seasons at NBC
Image
It’s the end of the road for the “Night Court” reboot and “Lopez vs. Lopez” at NBC.

NBC opted not to renew the Melissa Rauch-led sitcom or the George and Mayan Lopez comedy series for a fourth season, TheWrap has learned. The news comes just days after “Night Court” aired its Season 3 finale, which left off on a cliffhanger surrounding the romantic life of judge Abby Stone (Rauch). “Lopez vs. Lopez” wrapped its run in February.

The cuts come ahead of NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday, with the network having to make tough decisions to make room for NBA programming starting this fall.

While “Night Court” won’t return to NBC, Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show, is hoping to find a new home for series, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

Following in the footsteps of the original “Night Court” sitcom, which ran from 1984 to 1992, the reboot series follows Abby,...

Night Court Cancelled After Three Seasons at NBC
Image
Night Court is no longer in session: NBC has cancelled the courtroom comedy revival after three seasons, TVLine has confirmed, though it is possible that Warner Bros. Television could shop the sitcom around to another network or streamer.

The continuation of the 1984-92 courtroom comedy starred Melissa Rauch (The Big Bang Theory) as Judge Abby Stone, who presided over the same New York City night court as her late father Harry Stone (played on the original series by Harry Anderson, who died in 2018). John Larroquette reprised his role as attorney Dan Fielding, who served as the night court’s public defender.

‘Night Court’ Canceled After Three Seasons at NBC
Image
NBC has canceled the multi-cam comedy “Night Court,” Variety has confirmed. The followup to the beloved 1980s series aired for three seasons at the broadcast network.

Melissa Rauch led the cast, which also included original series cast member John Laroquette as well as Wendie Malick, Lacretta, and Nyambi Nyambi.

The official logline for the show states, “Eternally optimistic Abby Stone (Rauch) follows in the footsteps of her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone, as she takes on the challenge of overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.”

The original “Night Court” ran for nine seasons at NBC. The followup series hailed from showrunner and executive producer Dan Rubin. Rauch and Laroquette were also executive producers, along with Winston Rauch, Mat Hawawitz, Lon Zimmet, Lindsey Shockley and Mona Garcea. The Rauchs executive produced via After January Productions. Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television were co-studios on the series.

‘Night Court’ Canceled By NBC After 3 Seasons
Image
Exclusive: NBC’s Night Court is no longer in session as the multi-camera comedy starring Melissa Rauch is not being renewed for a fourth season.

The news is not surprising since NBC has been looking to make cuts as it is preparing for basketball coverage next season under the $2.5B a year deal with the NBA. Night Court, a reboot the original 1984 sitcom, was considered vulnerable — after a strong early run early on, the comedy has been posting significant year-to-year drop-off this season as the nostalgia factor may have worn off.

Still, Deadline understands there was a late push for Night Court to return for a shorter fourth and final season, which was unsuccessful. There is a possibility for it to be shopped elsewhere by studio Warner Bros. Television.

Night Court was one of three multi-camera comedy series on NBC this season. Freshman hit Happy’s Place has been renewed for next season.

'The Big Bang Theory's Bernadette and Howard Are Back Together in First 'Night Court' Season 3 Finale Images
Image
At long last, Bernadette and Howard have reunited after The Big Bang Theory. Entertainment Weekly has exclusively shared the first images from the upcoming Season 3 finale of Night Court that finally brings Simon Helberginto the Manhattan Municipal Court to stand before Judge Abby Stone, played by his former on-screen partner Melissa Rauch. ‘I’ve gotten a high from the gavel’: Melissa Rauch on bringing ‘Night Court’ back to life and crafting Judge Abby Stone
Image
Melissa Rauch is serious about comedy. Or maybe it's just that in her role as Judge Abby Stone on NBC's reboot of Night Court, she gets a power rush from waving her gavel around.

"What I've really gotten a high on in playing [Abby] is the judgy powers of having the decision in the palm of my hand," she tells Gold Derby. "There is such a control that comes with that, just by making a decision and going like this—" she mimes banging, "and going for the gavel!"

Night Court is, so far, one of TV's real reboot success stories. With two Emmy nominations and a third season that just wrapped, it's both a riff on and a new way of looking at the original, which aired on NBC from 1984 to 1992. Rauch's Stone is the daughter of original main character Judge Harry Stone, but that's not the only call-back; John Larroquette,...

5 Characters from Shrinking That Deserve More Screen Time in Season 3
Image
Apple TV+’s Shrinking, in the course of its two seasons, has left the audience charmed by its unique blend of laughter, grief, and authenticity through the medium of unconventional therapy. Co-created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, the series has received genuine praise and appreciation for the work of its stellar ensemble cast, honest storytelling, and the way it deals with sensitive topics of mental health.

Major characters like Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel), Doctor Paul Rhodes (Harrison Ford), and Gaby(Jessica Williams) have been pivotal to the story, quickly becoming viewer favorites. However, there are several supporting characters in the show who have played a great role in taking the story forward and still haven’t gotten justified screen time. As the show moves into a much-anticipated season 3, we wish that these 5 characters could step out from the sidelines and into the spotlight, adding layers of complexity...

How to Produce a Hit TV Show and Save the Environment at the Same Time
Image
When actress Wendie Malick joined the cast of Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” she was attentive, as always, to the sustainability standards on set. “If you’re not part of the original cast, it’s harder to come on and start telling people what to do,” Malick, who plays Harrison Ford’s neurologist and love interest, told TheWrap. “Happily, there wasn’t much left for them to do.”

Now shooting the third season of the therapy-themed comedy, Malick has been concerned about sustainability in entertainment production for decades. Since 200o, she has been on the executive board of directors for the Environmental Media Association (Ema), a nonprofit whose Green Seal certification stamps Hollywood projects for their eco-conscious methods, spanning from energy efficiency to the use of recyclables.

The Industry Exodus Isn’t Just Bad for L.A. — It’s Hurting the Environment, Too
Image
As Hollywood productions have relocated to Atlanta, London, Canada and other parts of the world due to favorable tax incentives, the environment also pays a price. Because although actors, directors and producers are traveling to these areas to film, they are not moving — instead frequently flying back to their homes in Los Angeles on weekends and days off and, as a result, increasing their carbon footprints.

Take Wendie Malick, who lives in Topanga Canyon and is currently shooting both Night Court and the third season of Shrinking on the Warner Bros. lot, while also filming a new Hallmark series in Vancouver for the next three months. “I’m going to be coming back probably every few weeks is my guess, both to honor my commitment to the other shows and also because my heart hurts when I’m gone for too long,” the actress and environmental activist says. “For those...
