James Marsden Calls Cyclops Return in “Avengers: Doomsday” a Homecoming
James Marsden
James Marsden says suiting up again as Cyclops for “Avengers: Doomsday” feels like “a nice little homecoming,” adding that returning to the visor “has been a blast.” In a recent conversation tied to his TV work, he reflected on two decades of fans asking if he would come back and hinted playfully at his character’s fate.

The actor joked he’s “getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume,” then quipped, “I’m dead. Well, maybe not.” Marsden last appeared as Scott Summers in a brief 2014 cameo and is part of a broader reappearance of legacy mutants alongside Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn, whose participation was spotlighted during a studio livestream.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is set for December 18, 2026, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing and Robert Downey Jr. playing Victor von Doom. Studio materials list an extensive ensemble crossing Avengers,...

James Marsden says returning as Cyclops for Avengers: Doomsday is “a nice little homecoming”
Avengers: Doomsday (2026)
Avengers: Doomsday has a lot to live up to. While Deadpool & Wolverine gave a good wink & nod to the past Marvel films released under other studios, Doomsday will attempt to blow the multiverse wide open with a teaming up of the official MCU characters and the original Fox X-Men cast. One such cast member who fans are excited to see return is James Marsden as Cyclops. Marsden portrayed the X-Men leader in X-Men, X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. Many feel that the actor didn’t get his due by getting overshadowed by the focus on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Scott Summers would have an anti-climactic end when Marsden was not available for much of X-Men: The Last Stand.

Marsden recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his new series, Paradise, when he inevitably fielded questions about Avengers: Doomsday. The actor explained, “I’m getting a little long...

James Marsden Speaks About His Return As Cyclops In 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Image
Of all the returning X-Men lined up for Avengers: Doomsday, few got fans more excited than James Marsden coming back to portray Scott Summers/Cyclops in what is bound to be one of next year's most massive movie releases. He's always been a fan favorite in the role, but he's also been frequently shortchanged by the X-Men films he's appeared in. To say he never really got to have his moments in the franchise would be an understatement, but Doomsday might afford him that overdue opportunity, something Marsden is very excited about as he gets behind the visor again.

During a chat with Vanity Fair, Marsden spoke about the current stage of his career, which has seen him earning some stellar reviews for Paradise — plus a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, his second after his hilarious turn on Jury Duty. Another part of this current stage is his return as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday,...

James Marsden's Paradise Season 2 Return Could Be Bigger Than Expected
Image
Paradiseseason 1 star James Marsden coyly responds to his involvement in the second installment. The political thriller debuted in January 2025 and was an instant hit for Hulu. The show was well-received by critics and audiences, garnering an 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an 84% Popcorn meter.

Paradise stars Sterling K. Brown as Agent Xavier Collins, who is tasked with protecting President Cal Bradford (Marsden). Much of the first installment focused on uncovering the mystery of who assassinated the President. Paradise season 2 is currently in production and will release in early 2026.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Marsden does not confirm his involvement in season 2, but strongly suggests he will play a role. When questioned if he will be in season 2, he responds, "I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say. Even though my vague...

James Marsden Talks Avengers: Doomsday, Spidey Saves A Kid In New Set Video, Fantastic Four Box Office Latest

Avengers: Doomsday will feature heaps of familiar faces from the X-Men franchise. There are some notable omissions, but James Marsden's return as Cyclops has generated plenty of excitement among fans.

He often ended up with the short end of the stick in the 20th Century Fox movies, becoming a third wheel in Logan's romance with Jean. The hope now is that we'll get a far more compelling take on Scott Summers, along with the hero's classic comic book costume.

Vanity Fair recently spoke with Marsden and asked if it's been strange to revisit Cyclops after such a long time. The last time he donned the mutant's visor was in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past.

"I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume," he said with a laugh. "I was excited because you're a part of something gigantic, and I've spent 20 years listening to people say,...

‘Paradise’ Executive Producer Knew ‘We Were Onto Something’ Before the Writers Room Even Convened
Image
“Paradise” executive producer John Hoberg had two main goals for Season 1 of the Hulu series. First, that his nephews would watch it, and secondly that his aunt would too, and text him afterward. “Paradise” achieved both — and didn’t stop there.

“I promised I wouldn’t do the thing that I’ve done every time since Twitter’s been around, which is to go there and just search #Paradise,” Hoberg told IndieWire. “I did, and it was constant. I could just refresh, and it was just people talking — and in addition to that, they were saying ‘You’ve got to watch this show.'”

Hoberg joined “Paradise” in the earliest stages, when creator Dan Fogelman had assembled a “mini room” that included writer Scott Weinger and executive producer Jess Rosenthal. There they laid the foundations of “Paradise”; a post-apocalyptic show done Fogelman-style, and the narrative marching orders of “big, engaging,...

Chris Hemsworth Clarifies Intent Behind Recent Thor Video: "It Definitely Got Misconstrued"
Image
Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as Thor for Avengers: Doomsday, and the actor recently shared a video titled "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor," which ignited speculation that he might be preparing to hang up the hammer for good.

The video featured clips, behind-the-scenes footage, and interview segments from Hemsworth's tenure as the McU's God of Thunder, and included shots from the four solo Thor movies as well as Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

"Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Hemsworth captioned his social media post. "For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Chris Hemsworth clears up Thor video that had fans thinking he was retiring as the character
Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, and Chris Hemsworth in Thor (2011)
Earlier this year, Thor star Chris Hemsworth posted a video on social media titled Thank You! The Legacy of Thor, sparking speculation among fans that he was bidding farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After nearly fifteen years in the role, it wouldn’t be surprising if he were ready to hang up Mjolnir, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

While speaking with THR, Hemsworth clarified that the video was not intended to be a preemptive goodbye.

“It was certainly not the intent. To be honest, my social media team assembled some footage and were like, ‘Oh, this could be cool. We’ll put some stuff up and thank the fans.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, cool. It’s been great,’” he explained. “So we penned it together, and off I went to do something else. But then I had a few people ask me about it,...

Avengers: Doomsday Rumor Points To Surprising Team-Up With Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova - Spoilers
Image
We are now exactly 500 days away from the release of Avengers: Doomsday, and Daniel Richtman has shared an intriguing update to a rumor he previously posted back in May.

As you may recall, the scooper reported that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) would actually be part of Sam Wilson's (Anthony Mackie) team in Doomsday. This led to speculation that the Thunderbolts New Avengers may disband, or possibly even get taken off the board early by Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) or some other powerful enemy.

Now, Richtman has clarified that Belova won't be an official member of Captain America's Avengers, and will simply "accompany them when they travel to another universe."

We expected a bit of Multiverse-hopping in this movie, but it is interesting that Yelena is the one to join Wilson's faction of Earth's Mightiest Heroes for their alternate reality mission.

We have heard that Pugh and...

Netflix Is Rebooting William Shatner's 'T.J. Hooker' as an Action Comedy
Image
It's often said that comedy equals tragedy plus time. When it comes to developing new versions of long-since-canceled television series, however, it's just as often true that comedy equals drama plus time, and a recently announced revival of an '80s cop series is just the latest proof.

T.J. Hooker, the William Shatner-led police drama that ran from 1982 to 1986 and gave its lead actor something to do between Star Treksequels, has caught the eye of execs at Netflix, where plans are afoot to leverage the show's basic concept into a new action comedy film. Although the original series took itself fairly seriously, it isn't hard to understand why Netflix sees the potential for laughs — not least because the premise, which revolved around the grumpy, by-the-books Hooker frequently clashing with less old-fashioned co-workers, has been used so many times that it was almost past the point of parody by the time T.

"It’s going great. We’re in the end zone and it all ramps up to this last block, similarly to the first season. It is a much different season this year, where we...

’X-Men ‘97’ Star Has Advice for Her Live-Action Counterpart in the McU's Upcoming X-Men Movie [Exclusive]
Image
Lenore Zann, the voice of Rogue in X-Men: The Animated Series andX-Men ‘97, has finally explained her issue with Fox’s live-action portrayal of the character. She even has some crucial advice for whoever next takes over the mantle of Rogue in the MCU’s looming live-action X-Men movie, which will be directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*). Anna Paquin previously played the character in live-action, first debuting in the X-Men movies of the early 2000s.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel at FanX's Tampa Bay Comic Convention for Zann, and a fan in attendance asked if she had any direction to give Rogue’s next live-action actor. She didn’t hesitate to suggest, “Watch X-Men: The Animated Series, then X-Men '97. That would be my number one thing to say.” She then went into detail about her gripes with how Fox handled Rogue in the Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart-led X-Men movies,...

The Television Academy confirms she is the first performer since 2014 to land that exact drama-comedy pairing in a single year.

Rumor: James Marsden's Cyclops Will Wear Jim Lee-Inspired Suit In Avengers: Doomsday

Despite being titled Avengers: Doomsday, the movie could have just as easily gone by "Avengers vs. X-Men." While that crossover event is likely being saved for the post-Secret Wars MCU, the heroes of Earth 616 and Earth 10005 are expected to clash in the 2026 movie.

That's reportedly set to happen when Doctor Doom manipulates the two superhero teams to go to war with each other, and the result will be a clash fans never imagined would be possible to see on screen.

We're expecting some surprises, but Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Channing Tatum (Gambit) are currently the confirmed X-Men for Avengers: Doomsday.

According to Displaying Model Behaviour, several members of the mutant team will get their own Marvel Legends action figures (you can find a full list here).

The YouTuber has also revealed that the Cyclops...

Potential Wolverine Replacement Speaks Out On Those X-Men Fan-Casting Rumors
Image
The X-Men are finally finding their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that means that inevitably the most iconic mutants will be recast. Fans have already visualized who they want as their next Wolverine.

Kingsman star Taron Egerton is their top pick for the role. He spoke toThe Hollywood Reporterabout it while promoting his movie, She Rides Shotgun.

“The Wolverine thing is almost like a joke at this point," Egerton said. "Every time I have a project come out, there’s a moment where people talk about it, and I’m the one person who is not qualified to talk about it. It’s quite strange, but it’s flattering. It’s always lovely to think that anybody would want you to play a beloved role, but I also think no one is ever going to accept anyone in that role other than Hugh Jackman. He’s completely synonymous with it.

Possible Spider-man: Brand New Day Action Figure Leak Confirms That [Spoiler] Is In The Movie
Image
As Spider-Man: Brand New Day gears up to begin shooting, all eyes are on the movie's set in Glasgow, Scotland, to hopefully get a first look at Tom Holland in the wall-crawler's new suit.

Much has been said about what we can expect from the movie, but in recent months, we've been led to believe that Peter Parker will take on The Punisher and The Hulk. At least a few villains from Spidey's corner of the MCU are also expected to appear, but it seems the spotlight will mostly be on Frank Castle and the Green Goliath.

Popular YouTuber and leaker Displaying Model Behaviour has shared an alleged list of Hasbro's Marvel Legends action figures set for release in 2026, and it confirms that The Hulk will indeed appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Unfortunately, there's no mention of any other characters outside of the Avenger, Spidey, and The Punisher.

How Julianne Nicholson’s Comedic Role in ‘Hacks’ Changed Everything: ‘I’m Actually Really Funny Too!’
Image
Julianne Nicholson may live quietly in the English countryside, but this Emmy season, she’s making noise in Hollywood. With two Emmy nominations — for her haunting turn in Hulu’s post-apocalyptic political thriller “Paradise” and her scene-stealing comedic performance in HBO Max’s “Hacks” — Nicholson has evolved from industry favorite to awards season darling.

“I know it’s greedy,” she says during the episode on the Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, “but it took me 30 years to get here, so I thought, let’s just start stacking them up.”

It’s dry, self-effacing humor that’s classic Nicholson. Behind the humility lies a career moment: another piece of recognition for her work that’s long been critically admired, often under the radar, but now gaining broader appreciation. Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast caught up with Nicholson to discuss her dual Emmy noms and more. Listen below!

The Fantastic Four Star Pedro Pascal Will Have An "Integral" Role In Avengers: Doomsday - But Is He The Lead?
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Pedro Pascal has repeatedly denied that Reed Richards will lead Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel's First Family is expected to be integral to the story, but talk of Mister Fantastic being in charge stemmed from filmmaker Matt Shakman's comments being taken out of context.

Variety has now chimed in, confirming that "Pascal is not the centerpiece, but does have an integral role." This comes after reports about Chris Hemsworth's Thor being one of the movie's leads; however, similar to Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, it appears the villainous Doctor Doom will be at the heart of this story.

The trade notes, "'Avengers: Doomsday' will feature at least one mega-payday in Robert Downey Jr., who is returning to the Marvel fold as villain Doctor Doom. Sources say Downey Jr. has earned between $500 million and $600 million over the course of...

After 'Deadpool & Wolverine's $1.3B Success, Ryan Reynold's MCU Future Gets an Unexpected Update
Image
After the return of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine earned an eye-popping box office haul of over $1.3 billion, complete with rave reviews, it was almost assured that the multiversal adventure was not the last of the dynamic duo. For all the jokes of Jackman playing Logan until he's 90, though, another team-up might not be coming for a while. Variety shared a massive report on where things stand among Marvel brass that said there was "no urgency" for a Deadpool 4 right now. Sources within the company cited a pullback on superhero content throughout the industry, prompting a slowdown of plans for the Merc with a Mouth's MCU future.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise considering the momentum going for Wade Wilson after his first film in six years. During a roundtable discussion with Kevin Feige attended by Collider's Steve Weintraub, the Marvel boss...

Avengers: Doomsday Star Anthony Mackie Shares Shooting Update And Makes Interesting Endgame Comparison
Image
Avengers: Doomsday is currently shooting in the UK, the new base for Marvel Studios movies. Atlanta was previously the studio's go-to filming location, but The Fantastic Four: First Steps shot across the pond, as will Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

We've yet to see any set photos from Avengers: Doomsday beyond the occasional aerial shot of some mysterious sets. That proves the Russo Brothers weren't kidding when they said earlier this year that there were precautions in place to keep the movie's biggest surprises under wraps.

Screen Rant recently caught up with Captain America actor Anthony Mackie, and asked him how work on the next Avengers movie is progressing.

"We are in the midst of it. I mean, it's such a big, moving set piece, and it's such a big story," he shared. "The best part of shooting a Marvel movie is that it's always an ever-evolving canvas. There are those staple pieces,...

I’m a little bit nervous about Avengers: Doomsday after hearing this new update
Image
Ever since Marvel Studios publicly announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, fans have been divided. Many, however, were excited and completely invested in the new direction Marvel seemed to be moving toward after abandoning the Kang Dynasty that they were just starting to build.

Downey's involvement meant Marvel could expand its ever-growing universe even more by introducing different dimensions and timelines on a broader, grander stage (much like what we saw with the introduction of the Tva and Deadpool & Wolverine). As if the title of the movie didn't give it away, Avengers: Doomsday was already looking promising, signaling our heroes would be facing Doctor Doom.

But it wasn't until this March that audiences would learn just how huge the cast would be. From the likes of the Fantastic Four (with Pedro Pascal listed at the very end of the line before Downey) and the Thunderbolts,...

Jake Schreier Teases ‘X-Men’ Reboot: “It’s Just Inherently Interesting & Complex Material”
Image
Jake Schreier is set to direct the X-Men reboot and, in a new interview, teased the film in the works.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed that Schreier would helm the film, and although the filmmaker can’t give too many details on the movie, he did discuss the comic book superheroes.

“Without going into too much—really almost any detail,” he told The Playlist. “What I can say is, it’s just inherently interesting and complex material.”

Schreier noted that “the core idea of what X-Men is involves complexity,” adding, “It’s an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict. These characters are wrestling with their identity and place in the world—that’s inherently interesting and complex material.”

The director said that it was “fair to say,” that the new take on the X-Men characters would be different from the versions before, saying, “To be able...

New X-Men director teases MCU reboot will be “recognizably different” to what came before
Kevin Feige at an event for Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Now that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that Jake Schreier is set to helm the X-Men reboot for the MCU, the Thunderbolts* director is finally free to talk about the project… sort of. There are still those Marvel snipers to consider.

While speaking with The Playlist, Schreier was asked if the new film would be “recognizably different” from the X-Men movies produced by 20th Century Fox. “Yeah, I think that’s fair to say,” he said. “There’s that red sniper dot out there somewhere, you know… But to be able to explore all of the ideas that are inherent to that rich source material, but also at the scale inherent to the source material, that’s like a very rare and fortunate opportunity. That’s very exciting.“

The director added, “What I can say is, it’s just inherently interesting and complex material… The core idea of what ‘X-Men’ is involves complexity.

New ‘X-Men’ Director: ‘It’s Fair to Say’ Marvel’s Reboot Will Be ‘Recognizably Different’ From the Previous Franchise and ‘Explore the Scale Inherent’ to the Comics

In a press conference ahead of the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed what had long been speculated: “Thunderbolts*” director Jake Schreier is helming the MCU’s “X-Men” reboot. Now, in a new interview with The Playlist, Schreier told comic book movie fans not to expect a new “X-Men” movie that resembles the previous franchise led by Hugh Jackman.

“Yeah, I think that’s fair to say,” Schreier said when asked if Marvel’s take on the X-Men will be “recognizably different from what came before,” adding as a joke, “There’s that red sniper dot out there somewhere, you know.”

Rumor: Marvel Studios Is Considering Keeping Robert Downey Jr. As Doctor Doom After Avengers: Secret Wars
Image
Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. bid farewell to the MCU and Tony Stark in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. However, he'll return to the franchise as the villainous Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The casting has divided opinions and raised concerns that Victor Von Doom will be an Iron Man Variant. We'll have to wait and see on that, and rumours are already swirling about which reality the new Multiverse Saga's big bad hails from.

Today, scooper Daniel Richtman brings word that Marvel Studios is currently discussing having Downey continue playing Doom after Avengers: Secret Wars is released at the end of 2027.

We'd imagine the success of The Fantastic Four: First Steps has something to do with that, as it makes perfect sense for Marvel's First Family to share the screen with Doom after his quest to "save" the Multiverse fails. Whether Downey wishes to stick around remains to be seen,...

Robert Downey Jr. Offers 'Avengers: Doomsday' Clues in New Instagram Post
Image
Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. will make a surprising (and divisive) return to the MCU next year in Avengers: Doomsday. And while theories and speculation continue to run rife regarding why Doom has Tony Stark’s face, the actor has now taken to social media to suggest that the events of Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will see him play not just Doom, but Iron Man as well.

Sharing a short clip on Instagram, Downey Jr. revealed that he has been reading both "Secret Wars," which sees a mysterious and powerful entity known as The Beyonder bringing together the Marvel Universe's greatest villains and heroes and setting them against one another. But it’s his other reading material that has fans’ heads spinning, with the actor showing off "Iron Man: Legacy of Doom," which finds Iron Man and Doctor Doom teaming up (sort of) before the latter betrays the...
