Taylor Sheridan on His ‘One Rule’ That Fueled His God Complex Criticism: “You don’t get to tell me ‘No’”
Image
Taylor Sheridan doesn’t just create hit shows – he controls them with an iron will. His method is simple: total control, no compromises. If something needs to happen, it happens. If it costs more, he’ll figure out how to pay for it. What you don’t get to do is tell him “No.” This isn’t a metaphor – it’s how he actually works. He added the same in an interview with Frontier Partisans:

My one rule with line producers and production people is: You don’t get to tell me ‘no,’ you get to tell me how much ‘yes’ costs, and then I decide where to pull that money from. It’s easy to tell me, ‘Taylor, you cannot have a helicopter for two days.’ That’s not the deal. I’m going to get a helicopter for two days. I’m going to swap this location to over here,...

‘Tulsa King’ Star, 44, Still Thinks His Underrated Fantasy Movie Deserved a Full Trilogy [Exclusive]
Image
Over 20 years after its release, fans of Eragon are still waiting for the fantasy novel to get a proper adaptation. Progress on Disney+'s series has been slowly creeping along since its announcement back in 2022, and 20th Century Fox's 2006 film famously fell flat with brutal reviews and an underwhelming $250 million box office haul. One person who still laments how the big-screen take on Christopher Paolini's 2002 novel panned out is Garrett Hedlund, who embodied the antihero archer Murtaugh. The original plan was for a trilogy, capturing the sweeping epic of The Inheritance Cycle from the moment Eragon and his dragon Saphira first take flight to their final confrontation with the evil King Galbatorix. If it were up to the Tron: Legacy star, that franchise would've come to fruition given that it remains one of his most positive filmmaking experiences.

Hedlund recently joined his Tulsa King co-star Frank Grillo for...

“Let them get in the middle of it”: Taylor Sheridan on How 1883 Depicts U.S. Government Using Immigrants As Frontline Shields
Image
Taylor Sheridan didn’t need to invent tragedy for 1883, he just pulled from history that most people don’t like to talk about. In one of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast videos that was released about a year ago, he laid it out in plain words:

“What our government was doing was… we needed people for a multitude of reasons… after the Civil War so many of the workforce had been killed… so we should send a bunch of Central Europeans and Eastern Europeans over there and let them get in the middle of it.”

That raw honesty fuels 1883, a story that doesn’t dress up the American West. Sheridan’s central point was that immigrants were strategic buffers, and not just settlers. Lured by promises of “free land,” thousands of Europeans, many of whom didn’t speak English or even know how to swim, were tossed into the chaos of a lawless frontier.

Taylor Sheridan: I Personally Requested Paramount to Hire One Young Sheldon Actress for the Yellowstone Universe
Image
Taylor Sheridan requested Paramount for the casting of Isabel May in the Yellowstone spinoff 1883, even before he had started writing the show. Created by Sheridan himself, 1883 is a prequel to the flagship series, Yellowstone. May is known for playing Veronica Duncan in Young Sheldon.

Set in the post-Civil War era, the show traces the Dutton family’s treacherous journey across the American West as they search for a new beginning, eventually leading to the founding of the Yellowstone Ranch in Montana. Isabel May stars as Elsa Dutton, the young daughter of James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) in 1883.

In a recent interview, Sheridan revealed that he had cast the actress before he even conceptualized her character for the show. “I found Isabel May when I read her for Mayor of Kingstown,” he told Deadline.“Paramount made a deal at my request with Isabel before a word had ever been written,...

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are two of country music’s most enduring and popular stars. They both started their careers in the early 1990s. She was given the opening spot on his Spontaneous Combustion tour in 1996. The chemistry between the singers was undeniable.

Tough Year For Tim McGraw & Faith Hill

Faith Hill took a step back from her music career to raise the couple’s three daughters, Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey. She released her last solo album, Fireflies, in 2005. The couple released the joint album, The Rest of Our Life, in 2017.

Every Taylor Sheridan Series, Ranked by Rotten Tomatoes Rating
Image
With Sicario, Taylor Sheridan kicked off a literal storytelling empire. With Yellowstone, he redefined the modern Western. Then he kept going from the chaos of Mayor of Kingstown to the espionage edge of Special Ops: Lioness. Sheridan’s shows just hit different – be it cowboys or covert ops, his signature’s all over it, with good dialogue, moral gray zones, and damn good drama.

Now, with his universe spanning timelines, towns, and tough-as-nails leads, we’re ranking every Taylor Sheridan series by their Rotten Tomatoes scores. Because when your TV catalog runs this deep, someone’s got to lay it out straight.

‘1923’ (2022 – 2025)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95%

On This Day 7 Years Ago, Taylor Sheridan Unlocked the Keys to a $70,000,000 Empire
Image
Seven years ago today, June 20, 2018, Taylor Sheridan dropped the very first episode of Yellowstone, unknowingly kicking off what would become a $70 million storytelling empire. What started as a neo-Western drama about a powerful ranching family quickly turned into a pop culture phenomenon. Sheridan’s gritty writing and witty characters struck a chord, and from that single premiere, a franchise was born.

With multiple spinoffs, star-studded casts, and a massive Paramount deal, Ts not only created a hit, but he also changed the landscape of TV. And it all began with Yellowstone’s explosive pilot.

The MCU Star Who Says He’ll “Do Anything” To Work With Taylor Sheridan Is Perfect for Tulsa King Season 3
Image
One Marvel Cinematic Universe star said it out loud: he’s ready to work with Taylor Sheridan. The actor reportedly confessed he’d “do anything” to join Sheridan’s storytelling world. And frankly speaking, there’s no better fit for Tulsa King Season 3.

"It Was A State Of Misery": Taylor Sheridan Talks Filming 1883 With Sam Elliott & Reuniting For Landman
Image
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan reflects on working with Sam Elliott on 1883 and their reunion filming Landman. 1883 was released in 2021 as the chronologically earliest prequel to the Yellowstone franchise. Starring Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, and Elliott, the miniseries followed pioneers as they made their way west. Elliott's Shea Brennan helped lead the treacherous expedition with the goal of seeing the Pacific Ocean. Elliott will reunite with Sheridan in Landman season 2, where he has been cast as a series regular.

In an interview with GoldDerby, Sheridan describes the brutal filming conditions for Elliott during 1883 and working on Landman. He details working in "108-degree heat dressed in wool" and only having three interior sets during filming. He notes that Elliott embraced it and that it "[felt] like he was doing something special." Sheridan also praises Elliott's distinct way of delivering dialogue and is glad to be working together again on Landman, which is currently filming.

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Gracie McGraw isn’t coming out as queer.

Not exactly, anyway.

The eldest daughter of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill noticed headlines that were saying that she has “come out” for Pride this year.

She’s setting the record straight, because she’s not straight — and has been out as queer for a while now.

Recent reports of Gracie McGraw coming out as queer are inaccurate — because her coming out was not recent.

The 28-year-old scion of Country icons took to Instagram to clarify that, whether or not people knew it, she’s been out for many years.

Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel Cost More Than Most Expensive ‘Game of Thrones’ Season
Image
The second and final season of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel might have ended nearly two months ago, but new information about the series has surfaced. 1883 was the first Yellowstone prequel to hit the air, and it stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill opposite Sam Elliot. The show was followed by 1923, which featured Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in leading roles. A new report from the Wall Street Journal revealed that 1923, which initially aired in 2022 before kicking off its second season earlier this year, cost around $22 million per episode. This is more than the final season of Game of Thrones, which reportedly cost around $15 million per episode. As of May 2023, Paramount was reportedly spending around $500 million a year for the Yellowstone franchise — this has likely gone down now that Yellowstone and 1923 are over.

Sheridan’s work on Yellowstone was such a success that it prompted Paramount to move...

“I subtracted from that in 1883”: Taylor Sheridan’s Genius Made the Best ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Possible That Won’t Be Surpassed
Image
Write? Taylor Sheridan bled 1883 onto the page! Before the Duttons were sipping whiskey in bunkhouses or Helen Mirren was delivering queenly monologues in 1923, Sheridan gave us raw Americana in its purest form. 1883 wasn’t just a prequel…

It was the soul of the Yellowstone universe. It had dust, death, and Tim McGraw breaking down like a cowboy Hamlet. Every episode hit like a branding iron to the chest—hot, brutal, unforgettable. The stakes were real. The characters weren’t just pretty faces in wide-brimmed hats; they bled.

Other spin-offs? They’re just playing house on the frontier. Looks good, sure—but it ain’t got that Sheridan sting. Lightning struck once, and 1883 left nothing but ash.
