Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is still waving his wand with confidence. During the company’s most recent earnings call, Zaslav doubled down on his promise that the Harry Potter TV series will run for ten years on HBO Max—far beyond the expected seven-season plan based on J.K. Rowling’s books. The comments arrive as production on Season 1 ramps up in and around London, with the series set to premiere in 2027. The new Harry Potter adaptation is now fully in motion, with the first official images of the cast and sets drawing surprisingly warm reactions from longtime fans. We've already seen Dominic McLaughlin as The Boy Who Lived, Nick Frost as a towering Hagrid, and delightful sneak peeks at Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley as Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia.

It is a strange time for Harry Potter fans. There is a new TV show on the way and now a new all-star cast recording of the seven novels about the boy wizard and his battle against the dark forces of Lord Voldemort, but there is also a continued cloud hanging over the franchise thanks to the continued discourse around author J.K. Rowling and her views on the transgender community. In a recent announcement, Michelle Gomez was announced as the latest star to take on the role of Hogwarts teacher Minerva McGonagall, and the actress felt it necessary to share a statement with her transgender fans after more online backlash.
Gomez will be the third person to be cast in the role of the icy educator, following the inimitable Maggie Smith, who played the character in the movie franchise, and Janet McTeer, who will take over the role in the HBO TV series.

As filming continues on HBO’s new Harry Potter series, a surprising new video has fans buzzing — and it’s not from the set. The spotlight instead lands on a different adaptation: Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions, Audible and Pottermore’s ambitious new reimagining of the classic novels. The cast features a star-studded roster of over 200 performers, but one name is generating particular excitement: Arabella Stanton, the young actress voicing Hermione Granger in the first three installments of the audio series.
In a new behind-the-scenes video released to promote the Audible project, Stanton appears alongside Frankie Treadaway (Harry Potter) and Max Lester (Ron Weasley) as the trio answer Potter-themed trivia questions. While all three are charming, Stanton’s performance is an undeniable standout — bursting with wit, confidence, and unmistakable Hermione energy. A major annual Harry Potter event has been canceled. J.K. Rowling's first Harry Potter novel was published in 1997, but the cinematic franchise started four years later with 2001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. There went on to be eight movies in the main Harry Potter franchise, along with a Fantastic Beasts spinoff series, a stage play, and more.
Now, a Harry Potter TV series is being developed by HBO. Several of the main cast members have been announced, including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Others include Nick Frost, John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Johnny Flynn, and Bel Powley.
Unfortunately, there has been a negative update in the Harry Potter universe as the "Back to Hogwarts" day at King's Cross Station has been canceled. As per Collider, the organizers have confirmed that the event will not be...

Less than two decades after the original movies ended, Paapa Essiedu is planning to star in the Harry Potter TV reboot. Essiedu was one of the first members of the cast to be publicly announced, and he is set to replace Alan Rickman as Severus Snape. While an experienced actor himself, his casting was divisive and sparked significant backlash.
Essiedu was cast alongside John Lithgow (Professor Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Professor McGonagall), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), and Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), among others. The Harry Potter reboot is promising to be more faithful to the original books after the movies were forced to make significant changes to account for their length.
Despite much of the outrage, which stems from Essiedu's appearance, he remains a prominent and promising star. He is still relatively new within the industry, having established himself in the relatively low-profile shows I May Destroy You,...

HBO'sHarry Potterreboot is currently filming, and fans will be excited to learn that the latest adaptation will feature at least one key difference from the film franchise. The upcoming series will seemingly have a vibrant color palette, a key visual component that was missing in the iconic movies.
During an interview with Forbes, cinematographer Adriano Goldman teased his work on HBO's television adaptation of Harry Potter. The director of photography revealed that, after spending 18 weeks in pre-production, the creative team settled on the visual style for the first season of the fantasy reboot. The grueling process will end up defining the series for the next decade, which Goldman teased will feature his affinity for colors. “I have a special relationship with color. This series needs to be more vibrant from the global point of view of the image,” Goldman revealed.

Guillermo del Toro Praises Free-to-Stream Horror Comedy For “Dark sense of humor and looming menace”
Tubi is quickly becoming one of my favorite streaming services. I hate advertisements, yet even I can tolerate their limited ad breaks. Not to mention, they have a wide variety of genre programming, including everything from the cult classics of years past to celebrated contemporary efforts.
Speaking of critically lauded fare released recently, the streamer’s impressive lineup presently features a contemporary feature that won over the majority of fans and critics. Not to mention, it also caught the eye of one Guillermo del Toro. Keep reading below for his profound, yet concise take on the picture.
I love that del Toro makes a food pun in his assessment. Nice work, sir. In all seriousness, this is one that warrants checking out if you haven’t seen it. If you have seen The Menu, it’s worth paying a repeat visit. The flick is plenty clever and there’s likely...

In the last week or two, we've seen plenty of glimpses of the new Harry Potter series on HBO, with filming now underway in and around London. We've had the first official looks at Dominic McLaughlin as The Boy Who Lived, and Nick Frost as his half-giant guardian angel, Rubeus Hagrid, as well as seeing the pair heading into a London underground station. There were also (unofficial) sneak peeks at Daniel Rigby as Uncle Vernon Dursley, Bel Powley as Aunt Petunia Dursley, and an epic preview of Amos Kitson as a fantastically 90s Dudley Dursley at London Zoo. And now, Kitson has become one of the first — unlikely, it must be said — cast member to speak publicly since the beginning of production. Kitson posted an adorable throwback Instagram post of himself as a tiny Harry Potter, complete with lightning bolt scar, and a delightfully sweet message:

Work continues on HBO's Harry Potter TV series in London, England, and Dominic McLaughlin has just been spotted as the Boy Wizard alongside a giant-sized Hagrid.
However, despite what you might think at first glance, that isn't Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost. Similar to the Harry Potter movies, it seems this series is utilising a suitably large stand-in who will don a realistic prosthetic head with the Hagrid actor's likeness.
As with the late Robbie Coltrane's portrayal, Frost's performance will then be merged with that. The result will be a Hagrid played by a well-known star who, at the same time, does right by the version of the half-giant and gamekeeper and groundskeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by being suitably massive.
It looks like McLaughlin and "Frost" are shooting scenes in the Muggle world, where they take the tube before arriving at Diagon Alley.

The first photos set photos from HBO's Harry Potter reboot found their way online yesterday, but there's one crucial detail that has fans feeling a lot better about the upcoming small screen adaptation.
The Harry Potter books are set between 1991 and 1998, though the movies led by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint appear to have taken place at the same time they were filmed: the first decade of the 2000s. Much has been said about HBO's plans for the property, with the biggest concern being that the Wizarding World would either be Americanised or brought into the present day.
After all, how better to make a new take on Harry Potter resonate with today's kids than by making the Dursleys one of those annoying TikTok families or for Harry's fellow students to be obsessed with Instagram and influencers? It sounds awful, we know.
Fortunately, these set photos have confirmed...

The Harry Potter franchise is getting rebooted as a TV series at HBO, and earlier this week it was officially announced that production has commenced on the series, with filming taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK. The press release noted that the series “will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max where it’s available, including in upcoming launch markets Germany, Italy, and the UK.” Now, some set pics have leaked online to give us our first look at the Dursleys – and to reveal that the characters are wearing ’90s-style clothing, indicating that this series, like the novels, will be set in the 1990s.
The cast includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as his father Lucius Malfoy, Bel Powley...

Production is currently underway on HBO's Harry Potterreboot, and the updates are coming in thick and fast, much like the letters that famously poured out of the chimney at Number Four, Privet Drive — the address at which Harry begrudgingly resided following the death of his parents. He was forced to live in the cupboard under the stairs, while his despicable Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and cousin Dudley stomped around him. Unfortunately for Harry, he will have to face them again in the upcoming TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books.

Production is now underway on HBO's small-screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter. We recently got a first official look at Dominic McLaughlin as the titular Boy Wizard, and these latest set photos taken at London Zoo (via SFFGazette.com) give us another glimpse of the young actor alongside members of the thoroughly unpleasant Dursley family.
In the novels, Harry is begrudgingly taken in by Petunia and Vernon Dursley following the death of his parents. The lad is not treated very well (to say the least), but does ultimately put his differences with their son, Dudley, aside.
In related news, Variety reports that Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden is building a temporary school so that the show’s young cast can keep up with their studies during filming.
"Three Rivers District Council is permitting the studio to “use a series of portable buildings as a school facility for the next decade.

Production on HBO's Harry Potter TV series started earlier this week, and following our first look at both the Boy Wizard and Hagrid, we have a better idea of what to expect from this small screen adaptation of controversial author J.K. Rowling's iconic series of novels.
We've known for a while that HBO intends to adapt a book per season, but with the show's young leads set to grow up fast and so much more ground to cover than the movies, the cable network has a unique plan to counter them being aged out.
According to Redanian Intelligence (via SFFGazette.com), seasons 1 and 2 are expected to be six episodes each, with future seasons potentially expanding to 8 episodes to help cover those extra pages. The books ranged from 223 to 766 pages.

Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Zoe Wanamaker have each been banned from driving for six months following separate speeding incidents, reports the BBC.
Watson was caught driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford during July 2024. For the traffic offense, the Hermione Granger actress was fined £1,044 by High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 16th.
Before the incident, Watson had already racked up nine points on her license. In the UK, a driver can be banned for six months after tallying 12 or more penalty points within three years. They must also apply for a new license before returning to the road.

Harry Potter may have just started production on its first season, but HBO is reportedly already looking ahead. A new report has offered insight into the network's plans for the show's second season, which would adapt The Chamber of Secrets.
According to Redanian Intelligence, HBO plans on filming the first two seasons of Harry Potter back-to-back, with Season 2 slated to begin production in July 2026, two months after Season 1's expected wrap date. Season 2 would then film on a similar production timeframe, wrapping in May 2027. The report also revealed that the episode counts for the first two seasons will be shorter than expected. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod previously indicated back in December 2024 that the first season would comprise eight episodes, when they mentioned having "eight hours to tell the first book." While that may still be the case, those eight hours will be divided into just six episodes,...

While The Bear has brought audiences’ attention to culinary arts, there have been movies that celebrate the essence of being a chef. From Ratatouille, Chef, Burnt, No Reservations, to Big Night, each movie tells us something new about the profession, creative process and restaurant management, and the people who give us good times. But Mark Mylod’s The Chef is a whole different story and now it has a free streaming home.
Per ComicBook, The Menu starring Ana Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes is now streaming on Tubi. The movie follows a young couple who love food, traveling to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where a renowned chef with an elaborate tasting menu reveals disturbing intentions beneath a flawless exterior. From exposing his guests to a chef killing himself, to a deadly cat and mouse chase, this black comedy horror has twists and turns that you’ll never see coming.

Following our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Wizard, HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series has just shared a first look—via SFFGazette.com—at Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The late Robbie Coltrane played the character in the big screen franchise that ran from 2001 to 2011, and this interpretation doesn't seem all that different. Frost is roughly the same age as his predecessor was in that first movie—a little older, in fact—but looks a bit more youthful in the role.
So far, this adaptation of Harry Potter doesn't look all that different from the movies, aside from a change in actors. That might be off-putting for longtime fans, but is unlikely to bother the new, younger audience Warner Bros. Discovery hopes to introduce to this Wizarding World.

Nick Frost is the new Hagrid in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. Fans got their first look at him in the famous half-giant’s robes, which were first worn by the late Robbie Coltrane in the original movies.
The image was shared just one day after HBO showed the first official photo of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter himself. Cameras started rolling yesterday at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

Hagrid is one of the most loved characters from the books and movies. He’s the gamekeeper at Hogwarts, loves magical creatures, and has always been loyal to Dumbledore. He’s also one of the first people Harry meets in the first story. HBO’s version of the character looks close to what fans remember, though Nick Frost brings his own take to the role.
Nick Frost, known from Hot Fuzz, is one of the biggest names added to the new Harry Potter cast.

HBO’s “Harry Potter” television adaptation is slowly coming together, but we’re still a ways out from actually getting it on our screens. That said, we are learning more and more as the months go on.
The series was first announced back in 2023, when HBO first launched the new name for its streaming service, Max (which has since been rebranded back to HBO Max). It has yet to be officially confirmed that each season will span one novel, similar to Disney+’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series, but each book does take place over a single school year, as did the movies.
Here’s everything we know about the series thus far.
When does the series come out?
The HBO series officially began production on July 14, 2025, with HBO confirming that the series is planning to premiere sometime in 2027.

As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, HBO has announced today that production has begun on the upcoming Harry Potter TV series at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK.
It's also been revealed that the series will premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max, adding some weight to recent rumours that the plan is to shoot The Philosopher's Stone/The Sorcerer's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets back-to-back.
With this news comes our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Wizard himself, Harry Potter. The newcomer is wearing the character's trademark glasses and has that all-too familiar lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead. It's fair to say he looks like he's stepped straight off the page.

What Do We Know About the upcoming HBO series reimagining the Harry Potter franchise? More than you may think. The new adaptation of the beloved J.K. Rowling book series is set to be a more expansive adaptation than the feature film series. From plot, casting news, and more, let’s dive in and take a look at what is coming up in the new take on the Harry Potter universe.
Why a series remake of Harry Potter so soon?
