Work continues on HBO's Harry Potter TV series in London, England, and Dominic McLaughlin has just been spotted as the Boy Wizard alongside a giant-sized Hagrid. 

However, despite what you might think at first glance, that isn't Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost. Similar to the Harry Potter movies, it seems this series is utilising a suitably large stand-in who will don a realistic prosthetic head with the Hagrid actor's likeness. 

As with the late Robbie Coltrane's portrayal, Frost's performance will then be merged with that. The result will be a Hagrid played by a well-known star who, at the same time, does right by the version of the half-giant and gamekeeper and groundskeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by being suitably massive. 

It looks like McLaughlin and "Frost" are shooting scenes in the Muggle world, where they take the tube before arriving at Diagon Alley.

Production on HBO's Harry Potter TV series started earlier this week, and following our first look at both the Boy Wizard and Hagrid, we have a better idea of what to expect from this small screen adaptation of controversial author J.K. Rowling's iconic series of novels.

We've known for a while that HBO intends to adapt a book per season, but with the show's young leads set to grow up fast and so much more ground to cover than the movies, the cable network has a unique plan to counter them being aged out.

According to Redanian Intelligence (via SFFGazette.com), seasons 1 and 2 are expected to be six episodes each, with future seasons potentially expanding to 8 episodes to help cover those extra pages. The books ranged from 223 to 766 pages.

Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Zoe Wanamaker have each been banned from driving for six months following separate speeding incidents, reports the BBC.

Watson was caught driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford during July 2024. For the traffic offense, the Hermione Granger actress was fined £1,044 by High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 16th.

Before the incident, Watson had already racked up nine points on her license. In the UK, a driver can be banned for six months after tallying 12 or more penalty points within three years. They must also apply for a new license before returning to the road.

Wanamaker, who played broomstick flying instructor Madame Hooch, also had nine points on her license before being caught driving 46 mph in a 40 mph zone during August 2024. She received an identical fine from the High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

HBO’s “Harry Potter” television adaptation is slowly coming together, but we’re still a ways out from actually getting it on our screens. That said, we are learning more and more as the months go on.

The Harry Potter surprises continue. Just one day after Warner Bros. officially announced the upcoming HBO Original series is in production, fans got a chance to see the first look at a fan-favorite character: Rubeus Hagrid.

Rubeus Hagrid is one of the most vital characters in Harry Potter. The Groundkeeper at Hogwarts, and later professor of Care of Magical Creatures, Hagrid is also one of the most stable adult presences in Harry's life. In the new adaptation of Harry Potter, the character will be played by Nick Frost, and Warner Bros. has just unveiled the first look at his character, per Deadline.

The first look at the upcoming series came on Jul. 14, when Warner Bros. surprised everyone with the filming production update. They also offered a first look at the new Harry Potter, Dominic McLaughlin, in his wizard uniform as a Gryffindor.

This week, HBO and HBO Max announced that production on the series has kicked off, with a 2027 debut date expected.

In the press release, they shared the first photo of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter in his Hogwarts robes. Now, we’re seeing Hagrid for the first time as well!

Nick Frost is Rubeus Hagrid in the latest first-look image from HBO’s highly-anticipated Harry Potter series.

Frost can be seen as the cuddly gamekeeper in his robes, made famous by the late Robbie Coltrane’s depiction of Hagrid in the iconic noughties movies.

The image comes a day after audiences were treated to a first picture of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter for the show that will now officially be released in 2027. Cameras rolled yesterday at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

The half-giant Hagrid features in every Harry Potter book and is one of the first characters to appear in The Philosopher’s Stone. He is known for his love of magical creatures, his loyalty to Dumbledore, and his role as a mentor and friend to the protagonist.

Fresh off HBO’s announcement that its upcoming “Harry Potter” series has officially started production — and the debut of newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter — the network has revealed the first image of Nick Frost as the lovable half-giant. The “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” actor follows in the footsteps of Robbie Coltrane, who played Hogwarts’ gamekeeper and groundskeeper in all eight of the “Harry Potter” films.

Filming on Season 1 of the series began on Monday at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K. and is expected to last until the spring of 2026.
