When the iconic sitcom Will & Grace first premiered on NBC in 1998, featuring an openly gay man as a lead character was considered truly risky. It was a groundbreaking proposition in network television. This daring move came just a year after Ellen DeGeneres’s eponymous sitcom, Ellen, had been cancelled. That followed a significant ratings nosedive, largely perceived as a backlash to her character’s historic on-screen coming out episode. At the time, the landscape of LGBTQ+ representation on mainstream TV was still nascent. It often met with trepidation from advertisers and some audiences.
To NBC’s immense credit, they chose to take a chance on Will & Grace. Their gamble paid off handsomely. The show was rewarded with an incredibly successful eight-season original run. It became a cultural phenomenon and a staple of “Must See TV.” Furthermore, its enduring popularity led to a...

The long-running animated sitcom, Bob’s Burgers, hailing from Loren Bouchard and supervising director Bernard Derriman, is about to serve up its landmark 300th episode. The beloved Fox comedy isn’t just marking time for this milestone, but going back to its very roots.
According to Variety, during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, Bouchard revealed that the milestone episode will flash back to the chaotic early days of the Belcher family restaurant. “In the present day, Bob is really sweating whether or not to raise prices,” Bouchard explained, “and it sends us into a series of flashbacks to just what was going on when Bob and Linda started the restaurant.” Therefore, between Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) vomiting from stress in the kitchen and Linda (John Roberts) on the verge of giving birth, this episode is poised to be a quintessential mix of heart and hilarity.

Last year, Deadline reported that Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis was prepping to fill the late legend Angela Lansbury’s shoes in a new version of “Murder, She Wrote,” the beloved ’80s and ’90s series that saw mystery novelist Jessica Fletcher (Lansbury) tracking down murderers in the sleepy Maine hamlet of Cabot Cove, as well as in her globe-trotting travels (courtesy of the Universal Studios backlot).
At the “Freakier Friday” premiere, Curtis confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the project is still on the way, in a dramatic fashion: “Oh, it’s…,” employs pregnant pause and dramatic facial expressions, “happening.”
“We’re a minute away. But, yeah, very excited, very excited. But I’m, you know, tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting,” she added. “I have a couple other things to hustle and then, then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”
This isn’t the first attempt at remaking the long-running series.

Chicago – When a filmmaker makes a significant feature debut – in this case writer/director Christian Swegal for “Sovereign” – the movie world takes notice. This ripped-from-the-headlines emotional story features Nick Offerman in a searing lead performance, supported by Jacob Tremblay, Dennis Quaid and Martha Plimpton.
Based on real events, the story centers on Jerry (Offerman), an advocate and speaker regarding “Sovereign Citizens,” a society of anti-government and off the grid anarchists, who deflect on any law due to the perception that all law is not applicable to an individual’s rights of existence … so Jerry pays no mortgage on his house, or taxes, or driver’s license fees, etc. His home-schooled son is Joe (Tremblay), who travels the country with his father, helping to conduct seminars for other sovereign citizens.

Nick Offerman is not here for Maga and Donald Trump supporters claiming his Parks & Recreation character would’ve been one of them.
The actor played Libertarian Ron Swanson on the NBC mockumentary throughout its seven-season run.
In a new interview, the Last of Us alum revealed that although Maga supporters think Ron would’ve voted for Trump, Offerman gave examples as to why the fictional character would’ve “despised” him.
“[Trump] supporters somehow say, ‘Well, he had a shotgun, so he must be one of us.’ Like, dumb people insist that Ron Swanson would’ve voted for Trump,” Offerman said in an interview with IndieWire. “And I don’t deign to answer myself. I take it to Mike Schur, the main creator of Ron, and he said, ‘Swanson would’ve despised Trump, because Ron loved capitalism. And Trump made the stupidest move you could make as a capitalist, which is to go into public service.

Scroll long enough on the internet, and the odds are good you may see Arby’s ads starring Cedric the Entertainer from the Original Kings of Comedy and Black-ish star Anthony Anderson. They’re part of a long tradition of comedians shilling for fast-food chains. Some were championing hot wings or pizza before they hit it big, like Steve Carell. Others, like Kristen Wiig, entered the game after becoming a superstar. Then there’s Jason Alexander, who did it both before and after — proving there’s no wrong way to make a quick buck off a cheap burger.
Here are 10 other examples of comedians doing fast-food commercials, so we can see how they measure up against the new Arby’s campaign with Cedric and Anderson…
1 Jason Alexander for McDonald’s
A few years before he played George Costanza on Seinfeld, Alexander was his theater-kid self in a McDonald’s ad for the McD.

Hugh Jackman is pretty inseparable from Wolverine at this point. Troye Sivan in the opening flashback of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and a certain cameo in "Deadpool & Wolverine" aside, Jackman is the only actor to play Logan on the big screen. He's been doing it for 25 years (almost) straight at this point, too. ("Till you're 90.")
But back in the late 1990s, when the first "X-Men" movie was still coming together, Jackman was a musical and theatre star not hugely famous outside his native Australia. Suffice to say, he wasn't the instant number one pick for Logan, so "X-Men" held auditions to find the right actor.
For starters, the role of Wolverine was famously Dougray Scott's, but he had to drop out to film "Mission: Impossible II." Jackman's career as Wolverine began with him being the understudy. Scott wasn't the only unused Logan,...

Falling in love with a bee isn't usually on anyone's bucket list, but in the world of animation, anything can happen. Animated comedy films have a special place in the hearts of movie lovers because, as unserious as they may seem, the writers know how to reel you in. In 2007, Dreamworks Animation and Columbus 81 Productions produced one of the funniest animations of the year, which turned into a classic. Bee Movie introduced theater audiences to Barry B. Benson, a honey bee with the ability to talk to humans and sue them for exploitation. Jerry Seinfeld voiced the character, and while critics had a mixed response, the film has gained a cult following throughout the years. Now, it's available to stream on Netflix and taking over the charts as the comedian brought up the possibility of a live-action sequel.

When I say sitcom, I’m pretty sure shows like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother all come to your mind. The genre has been a key part of the television culture for a long time. From black-and-white classics to modern streaming giants, the genre has evolved significantly over the years, while remaining true to one thing: making us laugh. This evolution has also sparked a slight competition among fans, who debate which sitcom is better than the other.
Whether it’s through laugh tracks or sharp, natural humor, sitcoms have given us characters and stories we return to time and time again. But for every iconic sitcom that dominates pop culture, there are just as many hidden gems that don’t get their due. These series, which are mostly just as good, have laugh-out-loud moments and premises that, at times, might be even better...

I'm not breaking new ground when I say that Adam Scott is excellent on "Severance." This isn't a hot take; it's decidedly room-temperature. Technically, Scott plays two characters on Dan Erickson's twisted take on a "workplace comedy," even though they are the same person: Mark Scout, a miserable man who lost his wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman) in a tragic car accident, and to deal with his overwhelming grief, who takes a job at Lumon Industries that offers a procedure called "severance" that splits his consciousness into two distinct parts. When he leaves work, he's stuck being plain old Mark Scout, but at work, on the "severed" floor, he's Mark S., a willing acolyte of Lumon who has no idea that he ever had a wife, let alone lost one.

In the "Seinfeld" episode "The Implant", George (Jason Alexander) accompanies his girlfriend Betsy (Megan Mullally) to her aunt's funeral, wanting to be supportive. The characters on "Seinfeld," however, are always trapped by their pettiness and neuroses, so it won't be long before George commits some kind of horrendous faux pas. Case in point, while at the funeral, George gets into an argument with Betsy's brother Timmy (Kieran Mulroney) over the etiquette of double-dipping. Is it acceptable -- or sanitary -- to take a bite of a chip at a party, and then dip the remaining piece back into a communal bowl of ranch dressing? Timmy is disgusted that George would dip a chip after taking a bite. "That's like putting your whole mouth in the dip." He seemed concerned that some remnants of George's saliva worked their way into the dip bowl.

There’s a famous story about director Martin Scorsese wanting to cast a “Cybill Shepherd type” for the role of Betsy the volunteer worker for his landmark 1976 film “Taxi Driver.” Shepherd’s agent, Sue Mengers, heard about the casting call and put forth none other than Shepherd herself.
“The Righteous Gemstones” casting department similarly went right to the top when looking for an actor to kick off the final season’s first episode. “Prelude” is a flashback-driven origin story of one Elijah Gemstone, a violent charlatan and drifter in the Civil War who possesses a gift for the grift, and the role is played by none other than Hollywood superstar Bradley Cooper.
“We needed somebody who the audience would immediately connect to, and that they would want to watch while not missing and hoping and wondering, ‘What’s going on here and where’s [Danny McBride’s] Jesse?’” casting director Sherry Thomas said.

It's hard to imagine Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld's hit sitcom "Seinfeld" missing any one of its four lead characters. Jerry (Seinfeld) was the shallow and neurotic one. Each of the four actors was nominated for multiple Emmys for their acting work on "Seinfeld," with Seinfeld receiving five noms, Alexander receiving seven, Louis-Dreyfus also receiving seven (and winning one), and Richards netting five and winning three. The fourth and final season of HBO's spiritual satire The Righteous Gemstones may be its wildest yet. This week's episode, the fifth of the season, wears its cinematic influences on its sleeve, with two plotlines drawing inspiration from two lesser-known films by two of the 20th century's most visionary directors. In a new interview with IndieWire, the show's creators discuss how elements from Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon and George Romero's Monkey Shines made their way into "You Shall Remember."

Says McBride, film history "is always a point of reference for us, and sometimes that means taking something like Barry Lyndon and injecting it into the stupid s*** we do to try to create something special." Meanwhile,...
