A Classic 26-Year-Old Comedy (That Gen Z Finds 'Deeply Problematic') Is Heading to Netflix
Image
In 1999, teenagers came out in droves to see American Pie. Now, almost 30 years later, the comedy classic and its equally funny sequel, American Pie 2, are heading to Netflix.

Beginning Aug. 1, American Pie and American Pie 2 will be available to stream on Netflix. The coming-of-age sex comedy follows a group of teenagers — Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs), Chris "Oz" Ostreicher (Chris Klein), Kevin Myers (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) — who make a pact to lose their virginity before they graduate high school. Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Owen, Tara Reid, Natasha Lyonne, Mena Suvari, and Shannon Elizabeth co-star as their classmates, while comedy icons Eugene Levy and Jennifer Coolidge play Biggs and Scott's characters' respective parents.

At the time of its release, American Pie received mostly positive reviews, with many critics calling it a well-done modern update to the teen sex comedy genre. However, as...

This Quintessential $235 Million High School Comedy Is a Sleeper Hit on Streaming in America
Image
You know it. You've probably quoted it. And now it’s back in the top 10. American Pie – the raunchy, heartfelt comedy that turned apple desserts into punchlines and band camp into cultural shorthand – is having a serious resurgence. As of this July 4th weekend, the 1999 teen comedy classic is sitting pretty at #9 on Peacock, proving that awkward high school horniness never really goes out of style. Now, as we eat hot dogs and light fireworks, fans are rediscovering (or discovering for the first time) what made American Pie such a surprise hit in the first place.

The film introduced the world to Jim (Jason Biggs) and his chaotic group of best friends – Oz (Chris Klein), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and, of course, the eternally unfiltered Steve Stifler (Seann William Scott). Their mission? Lose their virginity before prom night. What followed was a sex comedy filled with absurdity,...

American Pie 2 comes to 4K and American Reunion gets a new Blu-ray release
Image
Good news for American Pie fans. Two sequels from the theatrically released entries will be getting new physical media releases. The bad news is that these particular releases are from a British distributor, and the normal Blu-rays are Region B. However, American Pie 2 will get an Ultra-hd 4K remastering on a region-free Blu-ray so North American consumers can enjoy it as well. According to Blu-ray.com, 88 Films is releasing the first sequel and the last sequel to the 1999 teen virginity comedy. Both Blu-rays are due to hit retailers in June.

The description for American Pie 2 reads,

“The characters you love are back! One year after the prom-night misadventures immortalized in American Pie, the entire gang has reunited for the summer. Now, an innocent-looking beach house will be transformed into the ultimate party-central. Five guys will discover the powerful bonds of friendship… and Super Glue. Five girls will explore the mysteries of love…...

Natasha Lyonne Almost Forgot ‘Poker Face’s John Cho Was In ‘American Pie’: “I Haven’t Seen Those”
Image
Natasha Lyonne is back on the road for Season 2 of Poker Face, and she brought a few old friends along for the ride.

While discussing the star-studded guest roster of the Peacock show’s sophomore season, the first three episodes available to stream May 8, the actress admitted to Deadline that she wasn’t entirely sure if she’d previously worked with ‘The Sleazy Georgian’ actor John Cho.

“I think that he’s maybe in some of the American Pies,” she said. “I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen those. I did see the first one at the premiere. I do love Chris and Paul Weitz. I do talk a lot of shit about that movie, it’s mostly just because I don’t understand high school or proms or suburbia.”

Despite having only seen the first American Pie (1999), Lyonne played the sarcastic Jessica in the teen film and its...

Daniel Craig's Worst Movie On Rotten Tomatoes Is An Arthurian Legend With A Twist
Image
When you're trying to make your name in Hollywood, everyone has to start somewhere. It's a fact of life for just about every major actor or actress: You have to start small with your roles, like Amy Adams appearing in the beauty-pageant satire "Drop Dead Gorgeous" or Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can" years before she became an A-lister. Perhaps one of the most famous examples people love to trot out is that Michael Shannon plays a Wrestlemania-loving young man very briefly near the end of the 1993 comedy classic "Groundhog Day," 15 years before his Oscar-nominated turn in the Sam Mendes film "Revolutionary Road." But not every actor's humble beginning is the kind of thing they may want to brag about.

Consider the most recent man to star as 007, Daniel Craig. Craig was a well-known British actor before he was called upon to play James Bond, but most people...

Halloween: Resurrection (2002) – Awfully Good Horror Movies
Jamie Lee Curtis, Tyra Banks, Busta Rhymes, Bianca Kajlich, and Sean Patrick Thomas in Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
A new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series has just been released, and since this is the week of Halloween, we decided to take a look back at one of the least popular entries in the Halloween franchise, 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection (watch it Here), a movie that took the mostly-clean slate it was handed by the previous film, Halloween H20 (which disregarded the events of all but the first two Halloween movies), fumbled it, and let it shatter on the ground. You can hear all about it by checking out the video embedded above.

Directed by Rick Rosenthal from a screenplay by Larry Brand and Sean Hood, Halloween: Resurrection has the following synopsis: The original house of horrors, the dilapidated home of infamous serial killer Michael Myers, has now become the set of a webcam reality show. But when the veteran slasher discovers that a group of...

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror trailer: Doug Jones is Count Orlok in a remix of the silent classic
The Witch (2015)
Back in 2015, it was announced that The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers (who was, at that time, had only made The Witch) was planning to remake F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here). It took Eggers several years to get to Nosferatu, though, and we’ll finally have the chance to see his take on the concept when his movie reaches theatres on Wednesday, December 25th. About eight and half months after Eggers’ Nosferatu was first announced, we heard that filming had begun on a separate Nosferatu remake. Or, as the director referred to it, a remix. That was David Lee Fisher’s Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror… and that movie has now made its way out into the world! Fisher’s movie is available for purchase on Prime Video, going for the price of $4.99. It will also be released through Apple TV tomorrow,...

Jon Heder's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
The best Jon Heder movies and TV shows highlight why the Napoleon Dynamite and Blades of Glory actor has become known for his quirky, inimitable style. Born in Colorado in 1977, Jon Heder has become known over the years thanks to his unique style of performance that makes him instantly recognizable in almost any role. While he's best known for 2004's Napoleon Dynamite, this is far from his only appearance, and the actor has been a highlight of the cast lists of multiple movies and TV shows since his career began in 2000.

Heder's career has several intriguing facets. For example, he only starred in a handful of short movies prior to appearing in Napoleon Dynamite in 2004, giving his career something of an explosive start rather than it being a slow-burn rise to prominence. He's also been nominated for dozens of Teen Choice Awards specifically, making him an on-screen presence that particularly...

10 Controversial Movies That Feel Tame By Today's Standards
Image
Its incredible how much societal attitudes around whats shocking change over time, meaning that once controversial films appear relatively mild in hindsight. This can be the case across genres, as trailblazing comedies, dramas, and horror movies lay the foundations for subsequent movies to push cinematic boundaries into previously uncharted territory. This was why horror movies that once left viewers running from theaters now appear pretty mild compared to today's most shocking media representations.

Some of the most controversial movies of all time can feel pretty mild by todays standards, as filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock and William Friedkin pushed audiences well past their comfort zones with truly subversive films. Other movies tested the limits of tolerance, and once shocking representations of LGBTQ+ characters no longer feel controversial at all. These changes in what constitutes a controversial film highlight just how much society has progressed over the past few decades and signaled positive social and political development.

Jason Biggs Marks ‘American Pie’ 25th Anniversary With Netflix Baking Show: “No Pies Harmed”
Image
After 25 years, Jason Biggs took advantage of one of his most memorable roles for some tongue-in-cheek marketing.

The American Pie star, who hosts Netflix‘s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, joked “there were no pies harmed” while filming the backing competition series, which is “safe for family viewing” and now available on the streamer.

“I’ve really wanted to host something in the food world,” Biggs told USA Today. “Of course, there’s the wink at the camera and the audience with me as a baking show host. And whenever I can’t think of something to say, I always have a pie joke in my back pocket that brings the house down.”

The show’s premiere comes after last month’s milestone anniversary of his breakout role in American Pie (1999), which has long been known for its eponymous scene, in which Biggs’ bumbling teen character Jim fornicates with an apple pie.

Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, and More: Why Did So Many of American Pie Cast Vanish From Hollywood After Fame From the $900 Million Franchise
Image
Actors Seann William Scott, Tara Reid, and more had their breakout roles in the teen comedy American Pie. Following the lives of a group of seniors in high school who hoped to lose their virginity before college, the raunchy teen comedy became a global phenomenon and spawned a $900 million franchise.

However, the actors who starred in the films have had varying degrees of success. While actors like Seann William Scott have continued to work frequently as actors, others such as Natasha Lyonne have gone to work behind the camera as well. On its 25th anniversary, here is where the stars of American Pie are after gaining fame with the s*x comedy franchise.

25 Years Ago, American Pie Launched An Unlikely $1 Billion Franchise
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"'American Pie' is the latest in a long tradition of immature, self-indulgent comedies that celebrate the recklessness of adolescents." That's what Looking Closer's Jeffrey Overstreet had to say in his original review of "American Pie" in 1999. On the flipside, Film Threat's Chris Gore declared the movie to be "one of the greatest teen films of all time." Let us never forget that two things can be true at once.

Written by an unknown named Adam Herz, it originally began circulating with the clever title "Untitled Teenage Sex Comedy Which Can Be Made for Under $10 Million That Studio Readers Will Most Likely Hate But I Think You Will Love." The gimmick worked and it got the attention of studios, becoming the...

Alyson Hannigan Fondly Remembers Her Role In American Pie(Photo Credit –Instagram)

Following the 25th anniversary of the first 1999 American Pie movie, Alyson Hannigan made a stunning revelation about her role as the lovable band nerd Michelle Flaherty and how she nearly missed out on the sequels.

During an interview with Vulture, Hannigan added, “The best story from the whole thing was that you know, it was a low-budget movie with all these tiers of negotiations. There was an A-tier and a B-tier. I think I was on the bottom C-tier with Seann [William Scott].”

She continued, “I was like, ‘Okay, fine.’ It was seven days and it was more of a passion project. Then, in the contract, there was a sequel clause. I said, ‘Look, I’m getting paid scale plus 10. I’m not going to sign for a sequel. That doesn’t make sense.’ I sound like I was being really difficult,...

Alyson Hannigan Explains Why She Initially Refused To Sign On For ‘American Pie 2’
Image
One time, Alyson Hannigan almost missed the bus back to band camp.

Ahead of the 1999 teen movie’s 25th anniversary, the American Pie actress reminisced about her role as lovable band nerd Michelle Flaherty in the raunchy franchise and how she almost wasn’t in the sequels.

“The best story from the whole thing was that, you know, it was a low-budget movie with all these tiers of negotiations,” Hannigan told Vulture. “There was an A-tier and a B-tier. I think I was on the bottom C-tier with Seann [William Scott].”

She explained that the tiers were “in regards to pay,” adding: “So it’s just scale plus 10 [percent to an agent]. There’s no negotiating on the C-tier because the character is not that important.

“I was like, ‘Okay, fine.’ It was seven days and it was more of a passion project. Then, in the contract, there was a sequel clause,” Hannigan continued.

Seven Managers Exit Agency The Green Room To Launch Untamed Artists LA, Group Cites “Irreconcilable Differences” As Reason For Split
Image
Exclusive: The majority of the managers working at LA rep firm The Green Room have abruptly exited to launch management and production outfit Untamed Artists LA.

The move was made in the last few weeks and follows what the group described to us as “irreconcilable differences” with Green Room founder Alex Czuleger, who as of last week was understood to be the only manager left at the firm.

Czuleger, who set up The Green Room in 2014, declined to comment on the reason for the departures but noted that the Green Room would continue to operate as a management company and that replacements for the departing staff would be joining shortly. There is discrepancy between the two parties as to whether all agents left of their own accord.

The departing reps comprise Jemme Harper, Brenda Fisher, Chris Cope, Sasha Vassell, Nicole MacNaughton, Andrew Leon, and Eric Ziech. At least three are...

The Correct Order To Watch The American Pie Movies
Image
The 1999 coming-of-age comedy "American Pie" was a massive hit when it was released in 1999. Starring a who's-who of upcoming teen talent, "American Pie" delved deeply into the more embarrassing sexual details of being an adolescent boy in the modern day. There were scenes involving bodily fluids, oral sex, and multiple references to creative masturbation. While the bulk of the film -- written by Mike Herz and directed by Paul Weisz -- prided itself on aggressive raunchiness, it wisely ended on a sweet note, allowing the characters to realize that despite having had sex, they still have a lot to look forward to on their journey of growing up.

For a while in the early 2000s, Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, Seann William Scott, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Natasha Lyonne were household names largely because of the "American Pie" movies. To date, the series has made $990 million.

American Pie 5 Story Idea Teased by Reunion Writer
Image
The screenwriter of American Reunion teases a possible storyline for American Pie 5. The potential storyline would explore whether or not the romantic relationship between Jim's dad and Stifler's mom worked out. No American Pie 5 is currently in the works, though a sixth spinoff is in development.

A possible storyline for American Pie 5 has been teased by a screenwriter of American Reunion. The American Pie movies, which began in 1999, form a teen sex comedy franchise that follows the lives of best friends Jim (Jason Biggs), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), and Oz (Chris Klein), as well as their crude, hard-partying acquaintance Stifler (Seann William Scott) and their various love interests. Although five direct-to-dvd spinoffs were also made, the main branch of the franchise includes just four movies: the original, 2001's American Pie 2, 2003's American Wedding, and 2012's American Reunion.

Seann William Scott Reveals Shocking Paycheque For Playing Stifler In ‘American Pie’
Image
Seann William Scott is the latest actor speaking out about their small paycheck in light of the actor’s strike.

The “American Pie” star — who played the iconic role of Stifler — says he went from starring in the 1999 hit to working as the churro guy at the LA zoo after he was only paid $8,000 for the entire movie.

Scott made the shocking claim while appearing on the “Rick Eisen Show”. The two played a game of truth or dare when he was asked if it was true that “American Pie” was his first feature-length film and whether he was only paid the four-figure number.

“I think so, yeah, because I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000 or maybe $6,000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’,” he said. “I don’t know what happened to the other $2,000 because I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy,...

American Pie 3: Why So Many Characters Didn't Return For American Wedding
Image
Chris Klein's character Oz was not in American Wedding because he wasn't invited to return to the franchise - a decision made "above his pay grade." Other characters like Heather (Mena Suvari), Vicky (Tara Reid), and Jessica (Natasha Lyonne) were also missing from American Wedding due to creative decisions and story constraints. The absence of key characters, including Oz, in American Wedding weakened the group dynamic and led to jokes that fell flat, making it the weakest film in the franchise.

The third movie in the American Pie franchise, American Wedding, reunited the main group for Jim and Michelle’s wedding, except for a couple of characters that played big roles in the first movies – so, why wasn't Oz in American Wedding along with many other cast members? The main movies in the franchise follow the relationship of Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) and Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan), from their...

‘American Pie’ Star Reveals Tiny Paycheck For Starring Role In $200M Hit Comedy
Image
In this new era of actors’ financial transparency, actor Seann William Scott has revealed the paltry amount he was paid to appear in 1999 hit comedy American Pie.

Scott told TV chat show host Rick Elsen that he earned $8,000 for his work on the movie, which went on to make $235million at the box office.

The actor revealed in the interview that it “was a lot of money for me at the time” and revealed he’d splashed out.

“I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5000 or maybe $6000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’,” he said. “I don’t know what happened to the other $2000 because I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy, so maybe it was even less than $8000.”

Scott, who hails from Minnesota, played the role of wild lacrosse player Steve Stifler, aka Stifmeister. Scott continued working with the hit sex teen comedy franchise,...

Image
Exclusive: Tubi has picked up Underdeveloped, a mockumentary from Brian A. Metcalf, starring Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tom Arnold and Mark Pellegrino. It will premiere globally September 8 on Fox Entertainment’s free streaming service Tubi. Created and executive produced by Metcalf under his Black Jellybeans banner, the comedy series focuses on a group of failed and inexperienced producers working together at a production company.

Samm Levine, Shelley Regner, Kelly Arjen, Charlene Amoia, Nolan River, Jaret Reddick, David Henrie and David Kochner also star.

American Pie 5 Talks Are Happening & They Have a 'Great Idea,' Seann William Scott Reveals
Image
Actor Seann William Scott has revealed that there is now “a great idea” floating around for a further American Pie sequel. Speaking with Comicbook.com, Scott declared that they have a plan for American Pie 5, and that the idea behind it is so good it will even work within these “tough” comedic times.

"I don't know, I just love the character so much. We have to have a great idea, and especially these days, it has to be awesome. You know, comedy is tough, and they have always been tough, but you know, comedies have really changed. But I think, honestly, we have been talking about an idea. I had one and I still have one that we've literally just recently started talking about."

Scott, who has played Steven "Steve" Stifler throughout the main American Pie series, would love to come back for more. Especially if it means seeing a...

Bring Me the Horizon Go Pop-Punk on New Song “LosT”: Stream
Image
Bring Me the Horizon have shard the new song “LosT,” the latest track in their ongoing Post Human series.

The band’s sound has certainly evolved from its deathcore beginnings, with “LosT” being a feisty blast of anthemic pop-punk — perhaps a nod to Bmth’s upcoming tourmates in Fall Out Boy. The bands are set to hit the road together for a summer North American tour in June, and you can get tickets via StubHub, where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

The single is accompanied by a cinematic music video starring a gored-up and bandaged Bmth frontman Oli Sykes, and featuring an appearance by actor Thomas Ian Nicholas (“Kevin” from American Pie). Jensen Noen directed the clip, which runs with the theme of Oli’s chorus refrain: “Stupid medicine not doing anything!”

Bring Me the Horizon have taken an alternative approach to new music since 2019’s Amo.

Why One American Pie Star Told Friends The Original Movie Would Be Awful
Image
American Pie actor Shannon Elizabeth, who played Nadia, explains why she told her friends that the 1999 comedy movie would be terrible. Directed and co-produced by Paul Weitz, American Pie follows four high school boys, played by Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Eddie Kay Thomas, who enter into an agreement to all lose their virginity before their graduation. The movie went on to earn over 235 million at the box office, kickstarting a franchise that now features 9 movies in total, including various spinoffs.

In a recent interview on Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum, Elizabeth reveals that she initially thought American Pie would be awful because of changes in post-production she was forced to make regarding her accent.

Elizabeth was asked to change her accent numerous times during the Adr (automated dialogue replacement) stage of post-production, causing her to lose faith in the film and her role. Check out...

Why Natasha Lyonne Almost Said No To American Pie
Image
The 1999 teen comedy American Pie is one of the most iconic films about sex and dating, but Natasha Lyonne came close to not becoming part of the cast. Known as the first major movie for young actors such as Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, and Mena Suvari, the story follows clueless high school students who want to lose their virginity. Lyonne's bold and knowledgeable character Jessica stands out against the others. The movie grossed over 200 million (via Box Office Mojo) and the scene of Bigg's character Jim having an intimate moment with an apple pie in his kitchen is still surprising years later.

Lyonne played her American Pie role the same year that she portrayed Vivian Abromowitz in the 1998 comedy Slums of Beverly Hills. She continued to play confident and sure of themselves characters, from Megan Bloomfield in But I'm A Cheerleader to Nadia Vulvokov in the Netflix time loop series...

Jennifer Coolidge Would Return As Stifler's Mom In American Pie Sequels
Image
Jennifer Coolidge has revealed that she is willing to return in future American Pie movies in her own inimitable way. One of her early roles was an appearance in the original 1999 sex comedy American Pie, directed by Chris and Paul Weitz. She played the mother of Seann William Scott's rambunctious cad Steve Stifler, a woman whose appearance inspired the popularization of the term "Milf" and who eventually slept with her son's friend Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas). She would return to the role three times in each of the film's official sequels: 2001's American Pie 2, 2003's American Wedding, and 2012's American Reunion.

Last night, NBC aired The 80th Golden Globes, where Coolidge won a trophy for her supporting role on the HBO series The White Lotus.

During her acceptance speech, Coolidge thanked the people who kept her career alive with "cute little jobs" over the years, including Legally Blonde...

Thomas Ian Nicholas in A Kid in King Arthur's Court (1995)
Avengers: Endgame who? A Kid in King Arthur’s Court is the best movie about time-traveling on Disney+.

“A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, currently streaming on Disney+, is a hidden gem that whimsically merges sci-fi with fantasy. With a logline of ‘Joust do it,’ the film eagerly embraces its over-the-top absurdity. Borrowing liberally from Mark Twain’s 1889 novel A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, the 1995 film follows Calvin Fuller (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and his adventures in sixth-century Camelot.”

First Trailer for James Franco's Hollywood-Set Film Zeroville with Seth Rogen, Megan Fox, Danny McBride, and More
"Love. Cinema. And punk rock!"

The first trailer has been dropped for James Franco’s next film project called Zeroville. Franco directed the film, wrote it, and stars in it. The movie is an adaptation of the author Steve Erickson’s 2007 novel of the same name, and it looks like it’s going to make for a weird, wild, and crazy flick.

The film is set in 1969 Hollywood, and it follows an actor named Vikar who loves movies and is taking any kind of job he can in the industry to be a part of it. Franco is joined by a solid supporting cast that includes Seth Rogen, Megan Fox, James Franco, Joey King, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Dave Franco, Jacki Weaver, Craig Robinson, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Cynthia Murell, and Horatio Sanz as Francis Ford Coppola.

Here’s the synopsis:

Vikar (Franco) is a lost soul journeying through Hollywood 1969, a land of myths,...

Megan Fox & Seth Rogen in First Trailer for James Franco's 'Zeroville'
"Love. Cinema. And punk rock!" He's back with another wacky film! The first trailer for James Franco's next new film is out now. Zeroville is Franco's latest feature that he stars in and directs, adapted from author Steve Erickson's 2007 novel. This odd indie film takes us back to 1969, the same year as Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, to tell a different story about another actor in town. James Franco stars as Vikar, an actor who loves movies who shows up in Hollywood during a transitional time in the industry, taking jobs doing anything. The full cast includes Megan Fox, James Franco, Joey King, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Dave Franco, Jacki Weaver, Craig Robinson, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Cynthia Murell, and Horatio Sanz as Francis Ford Coppola. The more movies Franco makes, the weirder he gets. And I just can't help but see this as a Franco remake of Once Upon a Time,...
