Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, the creators of Modern Family, made a deliberate creative choice that made their sitcom stand out in a genre that was populated by hits like Everybody Loves Raymond. So, what was the difference between them? The children in the hit 1996 sitcom were just props who existed to remind viewers that the main characters were parents. But Modern Family decided to treat the children like characters who are central to the storytelling.
When Modern Family arrived in 2009, the family sitcom genre had almost vanished from the TV landscape. That genre had been replaced with titles that were comedy but had a bend of cynicism. So, creators like Levitan and Lloyd thought of a way that would bring the family sitcom genre back and also help it stand out in a landscape where it had lost its place. Their decision was clearly right because Modern Family was a hit,...

About a year ago, Ray Romano and Brad Garrett teamed up on Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, cruising through questions until they hit a wall at the $250,000 mark. The question stumped them, and it was all about a Christopher Nolan movie.
Nolan’s a big deal—most folks love his work, from The Dark Knight to Dunkirk. But when Ray and Brad faced a question about one of his iconic films, they couldn’t crack it.The question was: To make a super realistic farm without any CGI, Christopher Nolan planted a 500-acre cornfield in western Canada for which movie?
The options were Oppenheimer, Tenet, Inception, or Interstellar. Brad, joking around, threw out “Field of Dreams” before the choices even popped up.
Via 2waytraffic
Ray thought it was either Inception or Interstellar but leaned toward Inception. They didn’t risk it, walking away with $125,000. The right answer? Interstellar.

Almost a year ago, Ray Romano and Brad Garrett teamed up for an episode of Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The two were doing great, making their way up the ladder without much trouble, until they reached the $250,000 question. That’s when things got tricky.
The question they faced was: “To create a realistic-looking farm without using CGI, Christopher Nolan had a 500-acre cornfield planted in western Canada for which of his films?”

The options were Oppenheimer, Tenet, Inception, and Interstellar. Before the answers even popped up, Brad Garrett joked, “Field of Dreams.” Romano thought it was either C or D. Lisa Kudrow's dark comedy series, No Good Deed, has been placed in a state of limbo by Netflix, though there is still hope the story will continue. The 2024 TV show starred Kudrow alongside Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini, and more, and centered around the secrets contained within a home on the market. No Good Deed was only a moderate success on Netflix, so its future is unclear.
According to a report from Deadline, No Good Deed has been put on hold, but it hasn't been canceled entirely. The door is open for writer Liz Feldman to pitch an idea for the show's second season. If the Dead to Me creator invents an acceptable story for the next step in the anthology, then No Good Deed can avoid the chopping block.

Idris Elba credits The Wire for his casting in The Office. According to the actor, the sitcom needed a villain like Stringer Bell, so he channeled his character from the crime drama series.
During an appearance on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Elba said he basically played different versions of the same character in The Wire and The Office. He also revealed that he landed a role in the sitcom because John Krasinski was obsessed with the crime drama. "[Krasinski] was a big Wire fan, and he was like, 'We need that guy, we need that guy,'" he recalled. Elba played Dunder Mifflin boss Charles Miner in The Office Season 5. Though he only appeared in six episodes, the character was one of the show's best low-key villains.

As the saying goes, No Good Deed goes unpunished. Amid a day when the cancellation axe has already cut down the comedic murder-mystery The Residence and the medical procedural Pulse, Netflix is also hitting the pause button on its darkly comedic anthology series, according to Deadline. The show, which featured a bevy of talent led by Lisa Kudrow and Linda Cardellini, has been waiting for an update since its first season dropped back in December, and it was becoming clear that the news would not be good when it arrived. Fortunately, there is a ray of hope as, while there are currently no plans for a sophomore outing, sources have said that a second season is possible in the future with a new cast and an entirely new story.

Netflix has axed two of its spring originals — the medical drama “Pulse” and Shondaland murder mystery “The Residence,” TheWrap has learned. As for “No Good Deed,” the streamer has yet to make a renewal decision about the show starring Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow.
“Pulse” was notable as it was Netflix’s first big medical drama, a genre that has long been successful on television. Both “ER” and “Grey’s Anatomy” fall into that category, and they remain two of the most beloved and widely referenced shows in television history. While Netflix’s medical play may have failed, HBO’s certainly didn’t. “The Pitt,” which came out months before the April premiere of “Pulse,” was a streaming hit for the streamer.

There is some news about three Netflix shows that have all been in limbo after airing their first seasons.
It was just reported that medical drama Pulse and murder mystery The Residence have been canceled while No Good Deed is on an indefinite pause.

Deadline notes that the cast of Pulse was informed about the cancellation “over a month ago” to allow them to search for new jobs. The show was led by Colin Woodell and Willa Fitzgerald.
The Residence, a whodunnit in the White House led by Uzo Aduba, was “just” canceled and poor timing is being blamed for the show’s demise, with the Netflix series Adolescence overshadowing the program when it launched.
No Good Deed, led by Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano, has not yet been canceled, but the actors likely won’t return for an additional season if one happens.

Ashley Benson, Emily Alyn Lind, Madelaine Petsch and Sadie Stanley have been tapped for the lead roles in “Pretty Babies,” an indie female friendship drama written and directed by Tyler-Marie Evans, who makes her feature debut.
Set to enter production later this summer, the film follows two teenage girls who run away to Hollywood, chasing stardom, but their dreams lead them into prostitution, trapping them in the dark underbelly of the sex work industry as they travel from Texas to California.
“’Pretty Babies’ is a love letter to Old Hollywood. We’re pushing into something new with this script, and
that excitement has been palpable from the start, and something felt by every collaborator,” said Evans.
Christine Vachon from Killer Films is producing, alongside Jordan Wagner from Wagner Entertainment. Benson will produce. Amanda Larney of Killer Films is associate producing.
“When I first met Tyler-Marie, I knew immediately there was something special about her.

Lisa Kudrow and HBO aren’t letting the Friends star’s cult comedy go without a proper goodbye, and so it is that The Comeback is getting revived for a third and final season. The series, created by Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow, celebrated the 20th anniversary of its launch earlier this month, making today’s news monumental for fans. The revival speaks to the show’s lasting appeal, Kudrow’s endearing screen presence, and HBO’s desire to bring a familiar face back for more much-needed laughs.
The third and final season of The Comeback heads to production this summer for a 2026 HBO and HBO Max debut. In The Comeback, Lisa Kudrow plays Valerie Cherish, an ex-a-list celebrity attempting to rekindle the flame of her once prominent acting career with nothing but a camera crew and some determination.

While Landman (his new oil-rig drama) continues to dominate on Paramount+, overtaking even long-running fan-fave Criminal Minds, it’s the sudden resurgence of classic sitcoms that’s stealing the limelight. Frasier, The King of Queens, and Everybody Loves Raymond have all jumped back into the platform’s Top 10, proving once again that comfort TV never goes out of style.
With Sheridan’s name pulling in the drama crowd and timeless comedy pulling in the laughs, Paramount+ is balancing grit with giggles, and clearly, it’s working. The old faves still have plenty of fuel in the tank.

Fans of Everybody Loves Raymond are helping the show climb the streaming charts. The rise is largely due to Ray Romano and his sitcom co-star Patricia Heaton sharing their thoughts about a potential reboot.
According to FlixPatrol, and as of June 26, Everybody Loves Raymond climbed to the number four spot on Paramount+'s Top 10 in the United States. It trails behind Criminal Minds, NCIS, and SpongeBob SquarePants, at positions one through three respectively. It also surged ahead of another 90s sitcom, Frasier, which is currently in fifth place. Everybody Loves Raymond originally ran for nine seasons on CBS from 1996 to 2005. Despite its enduring popularity, Romano and other cast members recently shut down any rumors of reprising their roles.
At a recent 30-year celebration of the series, Romano was quick to dismiss rumors of an Everybody Loves Raymond revival. "No, there won’t be a reboot," he said. "The obvious [reason] is...

Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton are backing their “Everybody Loves Raymond” co-star Brad Garrett when it comes to refusing to do a reboot of the beloved CBS sitcom, which ran for nine seasons and 210 episodes between 1996 and 2005.
“No, there won’t be a reboot,” Romano told the New York Post point blank while marking the sitcom’s 30th anniversary. “The obvious is Peter [Boyle] and Doris [Roberts] and one of the kids — they’re no longer with us. We’re all heartbroken. They’re a big part of the show, the dynamic. Without them, I don’t know what the dynamic is. We love the show too much, we respect it too much to even try to do it.”
Boyle and Roberts, who played Romano’s on-screen parents Frank and Marie, died in 2006 and 2016, respectively. Sawyer Sweeten, who played one of Romano’s twin sons, died in 2015 at 19 years old.

In the new action movie Guns Up, Kevin can't wait...to kill you. Beloved sitcom shlub Kevin James is a family man by day, and a hired killer by night in the new trailer for the action comedy. Also taking an uncharacteristic action role in the film is Christina Ricci, playing James' wife. Guns Up will be released on July 18.
In the trailer, James plays Ray Hayes, a loving husband to Alice (Ricci) and gentle father to Henry and Siobhan. He puts food on the table by acting as "New Jersey's #1 collector of debts" for the local crime bosses, but not for much longer; he's planning to leave his life of crime behind and open up a retro-style diner. Fans of the classic sitcom Everybody Loves Raymondwho have been hoping for a revival of the show, which has been off the air for 20 years, shouldn’t hold their breath for a Barone Family reunion. If you’ve been eagerly awaiting an Everybody Loves Raymond reboot, sorry to break it to you, but there won’t be one anytime soon — if ever. About a week ago, fan-favorite Brad Garrett, who portrayed the tallest Barone, Robert, on the classic sitcom, squashed any hopes of a revival coming to life. More recently, co-stars Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton have joined in ruling out any possibility, citing a significant reason in an interview with the New York Post while celebrating 30 years of the beloved show at New York City's Paley Museum.
"No, there won’t be a reboot," Romano, who starred as Ray Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond, said before adding that it would never be the same without three stars who have unfortunately passed away. He explained:
"The obvious is: Peter [Boyle] and Doris [Roberts] and one of the kids [Sawyer Sweeten]. They’re no longer with us.

Everybody Loves Raymond was a massive hit for CBS over its nine seasons. But if series star Ray Romano had his way, the show would have had a completely different title.
A list of alternate titles, which includes "That Raymond Guy, Concerning Raymond and Um, Raymond," is currently on display at the Everybody Loves Raymond exhibit at the Paley Museum in Manhattan. Speaking to the New York Post, series executive producer Tom Caltabiano revealed that "Ray was tortured by the name" the studio eventually went with.
The sitcom, which chronicles the day-to-day life of sportswriter Ray Barone who lives with his family in Long Island, takes some inspiration from the titular comedian's real life. Like the show, Romano's brother was a police officer who used to joke that, despite the dangers of his job, his brother "tells jokes and gets an award [because] everybody loves Raymond!"

When they say everybody loves Raymond, they weren’t kidding. Nine seasons, 200+ episodes and one of the most nominated comedies in Primetime Emmy history, Everybody Loves Raymond remains one of the most beloved sitcoms ever. And while it lives on in reruns, don’t expect it to get the reboot treatment.

Cristin Milioti is having a bit of a moment. Between her killer turn as Sofia Falcone in The Penguin and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries, the How I Met Your Mother star has finally become a household name. But while fans are catching up with her HBO hits like The Resort, Fargo, and Black Mirror, there’s one series that’s become a ghost in the machine. Literally. Made for Love, Milioti’s deeply unsettling sci-fi satire, no longer exists on HBO Max. It was deleted. Completely erased. Forever. And Cristin is pissed. “It’s so f**ked up,” she told Marc Maron on his Wtf podcast. “That happened because, umm, we were a tax write-off. I did it for Max… I just know that they ripped it off the platform… like when they ripped Westworld off. And it’s such a bummer because, you know,...

Phil Rosenthal may be many years out from his last sitcom, but the Everybody Loves Raymond creator keeps damn busy. In the wilds of Alberta earlier in June, where he accepted the award of excellence at the annual Banff World Media Festival, the star of Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil sat down to go through his packed schedule. There’s the eighth season of his culinary travelog, out today, a Paley Center retrospective of Raymond, his upcoming speaking tour and, if the red tape finally permits it, a mid-summer launch for his and Nancy Silverton’s Los Angeles diner, Max and Helen’s. The famously cheery TV writer is psyched about it all… though he is not above indulging a few digressions about the horrors of American life at the moment.

When it comes to sitcoms and their theme songs, there are a few different categories. First are those that debut with the perfect theme song and never change it — shows like Cheers, The Jeffersons and Welcome Back, Kotter. Then there are those that keep things fresh by using the same song, but with different arrangements, like how The Cosby Show or Frasier changed its opening theme a bit each year or how Growing Pains kept the same theme, but occasionally altered who performed it. Of course, there are also the shows that completely switch themes. Happy Days, for example, began with “Rock Around the Clock” but transitioned to the more remembered “Happy Days” theme in Season Three.
But there is one more category: The shows that never seem to make up their mind about what their theme song is. Every few seasons, a brand new song introduces the show, only...

Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett has talked about why a reboot of the classic Emmy-winning sitcom has not happened. The popular sitcom ran for nine seasons on CBS between 1996 and 2005, and is considered one of the most influential sitcoms of the '90s and 2000s. Everybody Loves Raymond had a strong cast of comedy heavyweights, and was headed up by Ray Romano, Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Doris Roberts, and Peter Boyle. In recent years, many acclaimed TV shows have been rebooted, and the possibility of an Everybody Loves Raymond comeback loomed large.
However, in a recent interview with People, Garrett ruled out the possibility of the show receiving a reboot and gave the reasons behind this. Speaking at the premiere of Disney Pixar's Elio, Garrett stated that a reboot of the show will not be happening, with the reason being that cast members Roberts and Peter Doyle (who played Ray...

"Everybody Loves Raymond" was the poster child of sitcom television throughout the show's nearly decade-long run from 1996 to 2005. Those nine seasons saw the production of over 200 episodes, with creator Phil Rosenthal, comedic legend Ray Romano, and an incredible supporting cast (including the likes of Patricia Heaton and Brad Garrett) generating an endless stream of knee-slapping moments centered on the mundane life of the Barones of Long Island.
Each episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" has something to like. As always, though, some stand out above the rest. If you reference the crowd-sourced ratings on a website like IMDb, audiences found episodes like season 5's "The Wallpaper" and season 7's "Debra Makes Something Good" to be peak sitcom.
But what about the man himself? What does Romano think are the best episodes of his show? In an interview with People Magazine in 2024, the actor revealed that he had finally sat down and...

The television industry’s reboot/remake/revival craze can’t touch Everybody Loves Raymond, according to Brad Garrett, who played Ray Romano’s onscreen brother on the hit CBS sitcom. At the Los Angeles premiere of the Pixar film Elio last week, Garrett told People there “won’t be” a Raymond revival. “And I’m just saying that because that’s something that Ray and [creator] Phil [Rosenthal] have always said,” he added. According to Garrett, a reboot wouldn’t work without cast members Peter Boyle, who died in 2006, and Doris Roberts, who died nearly a decade later. The two actors played Frank and Marie Barone — parents of Raymond and Garrett’s Robert Barone — who lived with Robert across the street from Raymond and wife Debra (Patricia Heaton). “There is no show without the parents,” Garrett said. “They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn’t be...

Los Angeles — Brad Garrett has delivered the final word on decades of speculation about reviving CBS’s hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond: “There won’t be,” the 65-year-old actor said at Disney-Pixar’s Elio premiere on 10 June. He added that any attempt would be “wrong” without the late Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, whose performances as Frank and Marie Barone were “the catalyst of the show”. Garrett’s rejection ends a renewal narrative that has shadowed the series since it ended in 2005.

Listen, just because there isn't some long-awaited fan favorite original Netflix series popping up with a new season, it doesn't mean that there's nothing worth watching this week. I'd say several great shows are coming to your favorite streamer.
We'll get a documentary series about cheerleaders for a team that a lot of people hate. And a documentary about a mayor that a lot of people hated. Thankfully, that balances out with a huge show that many people loved, making its Netflix debut.
I'll be honest; I've never seen a single episode of that show. But I do have about 37 friends who swear it's the best thing ever. We'll get to that soon enough. For now, we've got plenty to talk about. We've got witch hunters - well, one, anyway. We also have demon hunters, just to make sure they didn't feel left out. Everybody Loves Raymond served as one of the most popular TV shows on the air during its run, and fans still continue to enjoy watching the series through streaming and reruns. However, no one should expect to see a revival happening anytime soon, as the stars of the show feel that Everybody Loves Raymond is best left in the past.
The series starred comedian Ray Romano as Ray Barone, a sports writer who lives across the street from his parents: Marie (Doris Roberts) and Frank (Peter Boyle). The series also respectively starred Brad Garrett and Patricia Heaton as Robert and Debra, Ray's brother and wife. In a new talk with People, Garrett was asked to state definitively whether there could be a reboot of the hit sitcom. The actor said this could "never" happen without the involvement of Roberts and Boyle, who've since passed away.
"There won't be [a reboot]," Garrett said.

Brad Garrett is shutting down rumors of an “Everybody Loves Raymond” reboot.

The actor, who played Ray Romano’s brother in the series, confirmed that there won’t be a revival of the show after speaking with Romano and Philip Rosenthal, the show’s creator.
Garrett said that the main reason behind the decision is because of the death of Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, two actors who played Romano’s parents in the show.
“There is no show without the parents,” Garrett said. “They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn’t be right to the audiences or the loyal fan base. And it was about those two families, and you can’t get around that.”

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick bring their vivid screen presence and expert timing to The Best You Can, elevating this low-key, Tribeca-premiering dramedy. With strong performances and a fresh premise about an unexpected friendship in middle age, but far too many creaky comic tropes, the uneven film is always watchable but never pops off the screen in a gripping way.
It’s the second feature written and directed by Michael J. Weithorn, a co-creator of The King of Queens and a veteran writer on other sitcoms. It’s simply descriptive and not a disparagement to say that with its often strained plot and quick-hit sitcom timing, the film is most likely to appeal to an undemanding audience and an older demographic.
Sedgwick plays Cynthia, whose brilliant husband, Warren (Judd Hirsch, reliably on point), once on the staff of the Watergate committee, is now 83 and sliding into dementia. At the start...

It's hard to find a bigger "watercooler talk" show right now than The White Lotus. The HBO dramedy has become a smash hit thanks to its mix of compelling characters, gorgeous exotic locales, and some often insane goings-on. Each season provides a new pack of wealthy but troubled people uncovering secrets while on a vacation that's anything but restful.
The show excels thanks to its wonderful cast with Jennifer Coolidge winning an Emmy for her turn. There's also been Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, Sydney Sweeney, Meghan Fahy, Aubrey Plaza, Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins, and more than can be counted.
Among the stars of season 3 was veteran actress Parker Posey as Victoria, a wife and mother whose family journey takes her on a unique course. Variety had Posey talking to longtime friend Lisa Kudrow, with the conversation turning to The White Lotus and Posey asking the...

Making its world premiere in the Spotlight Narrative section of the Tribeca Festival, The Best You Can represents the first major onscreen teaming of real-life husband and wife Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick since 2004’s The Woodsman, and they remain the best reason to see this small but engaging character dramedy about boomers fighting life passing them by. It will also largely appeal to that similar demographic. Nothing wrong with that.
It is hard to believe the ever-young dancing presence of Footloose is now 66 and playing a guy with prostate problems but, hey, everyone gets older and the sweet premise of this film written and directed by Michael J. Weithorn is that maybe it is never too late to find something new to re-energize your life, even if it seems that ship has already sailed.
Sedgwick plays Cynthia Rand, the 25-years-younger wife of Walter (Judd Hirsch) who sadly is experiencing the onset of dementia,...

Two months after The White Lotus' third season ended, fans are already speculating which stars could appear in Season 4 of the gripping HBO satirical comedy-drama. However, one potential candidate for a Season 4 appearance isn't sure she wants to get caught up in the "dark" series, asFriends star Lisa Kudrow shares her thoughts on a possible feature.
Speaking alongside The White Lotus star Parker Posey during a Variety interview, Kudrow addressed the prospect of joining the cast if given the opportunity. When Posey, who portrays fan-favorite character Victoria Ratliff in The White Lotus, claimed Kudrow would be a good fit for the show, suggesting, "If there's a big enough TikTok campaign, it'll happen," Kudrow joked, "Because that's how it works."
After Posey hinted that showrunner Mike White may have a story worth investing in, Kudrow admitted the sometimes murderous show is the type of series she's tried to "avoid" throughout her career.

Long before Marvel was crossing over the superheroes in their films at every chance, prime-time sitcoms figured out that people love to see a character from one show appear in another. Or, at least, people like the idea of it. While some crossovers come off like Thor and Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok — an epic team-up with hilarious moments — others are more like Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy in Thor: Love and Thunder — a disappointing mess that fails to deliver on its potential.
Superheroes aside, here are the five most ill-conceived sitcom crossovers of all time…
5 ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Futurama’
The very idea of Homer Simpson sharing a few cans of Duff with Bender is inspired. Unfortunately, the Simpsons episode “Simpsorama,” which crossed over with Futurama, failed to deliver at every turn. The episode checks all the boxes for what you’d want to see these characters do together...
