Rachel Zegler at an event for Snow White (2025)
‘Snow White’ Blu-ray Review
Rachel Zegler at an event for Snow White (2025)
Stars: Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap, Andrew Barth Feldman, Tituss Burgess, Martin Klebba, Jason Kravits, George Salazar, Jeremy Swift, Andy Grotelueschen, Ansu Kabia, Patrick Page | Written by Erin Cressida Wilson | Directed by Marc Webb

As someone who grew up, thanks to my mum’s love of the films, on Disney’s legacy of animated classics, I went into the 2025 live-action Snow White hoping for something that would both honour the past and confidently step into the present. What I got was a film that is caught in an awkward tug-of-war between honouring its classic roots and reshaping itself for contemporary sensibilities.

Directed by Marc Webb and starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, this adaptation is undeniably ambitious. From the outset, it’s clear that this isn’t exactly the same story told in 1937 (something other Disney live-action remakes fail to do sometimes). Here,...

Snow White Hits Disney+ Tomorrow After Finishing Box Office Run As One Of Disney's Lowest Grossing Remakes
Image
Lilo and Stitch has proven that there's still plenty of life in Disney's live-action remakes of animated classics, but the recent reimagining of one of the Mouse House's most popular and well-known tales was a rare misfire.

Snow White arrives on Disney+ tomorrow, and has officially finished up its box office run as one of Disney's worst performing live-action remakes.

The movie, which stars Rachel Zegler in the title role and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, ended its theatrical run with $205.5 million worldwide. Only 2016's Pete's Dragon ($143.7 million and 2020's Mulan ($69.9 million) - which, to be fair, debuted during Covid with a simultaneous Premier Access streaming release - have fared worse.

Snow White received mostly negative reviews (40% on Rotten Tomatoes), but was plagued by controversy (whether it was warranted or not is up for debate) in the build-up to its release, which probably didn't help.

Be it Zegler's comments about the animated original,...

Snow White: Disney's Underperforming Remake Sets Digital And Blu-Ray Release Dates
Image
Disney‘s live-action Snow White remake is set to arrive on Digital on May 13, followed by 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD on June 24.

The movie, which stars Rachel Zegler as the titular princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, did not perform very well at the box office (probably an understatement), and had yet to pass the $100 million milestone domestically in its third weekend in theaters.

Snow White will finish its theatrical run with just over $200 million worldwide, and is expected to end up costing the studio upwards of $115 million.

Per the official press release: "The live-action musical retelling of the classic animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sweeps audiences of all ages into an adventure that blends nostalgia, notable new visuals, and a memorable soundtrack, taking story-telling to all-new fairytale heights. New productions of long-beloved songs complement five original “contemporary kingdom” tunes thoughtfully crafted by Egot winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul,...

Snow White Banned In Lebanon Due To Wonder Woman Star Gal Gadot's "Boycott List" Status
Image
As if Disney's live-action Snow White remake wasn't experiencing enough box office woes, the movie has now been banned completely in one particular region.

According to Variety, Snow White has been banned from playing in all movie theaters in Lebanon due to the involvement of Evil Queen actress Gal Gadot, who is said to be on the country's "boycott list."

Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar reportedly ordered the ban after being prompted to take action by the country’s film and media watchdog amid Israel’s ongoing attacks on Hezbollah. However, Beirut-based Middle East distributor Italia Films believes that the ban would have happened anyway, as Gadot has long been on Lebanon’s “Israel boycott list” and no movie in which she appears in has ever been released there.

The Wonder Woman star has been an open supporter of Israel, and served in the Israel Defense Forces (as her...

Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Banned in Lebanon Due to Gal Gadot’s Ties to Israel
Image
Disney’s “Snow White” has been banned from playing in movie theaters in Lebanon as star Gal Gadot is on the country’s boycott list, according to local media reports.

Local newspaper An-Nahar reported that the ban was ordered by Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar, who made the decision amid Israel’s ongoing attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, which have killed civilians.

Gadot, who portrays The Evil Queen in the live-action remake, was born in Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces. She has been an outspoken advocate for the country since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks.

“Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews,” Gadot said in a March 4 speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s annual summit in New York City.

Snow White May Fail To Hit $100 Million At Domestic Box Office After Disasterous 60% Drop
Image
Disney’s Snow White took in just $1.5 million on Friday in the U.S., dropping 60% from its daily total one week ago.

The movie is now in fourth place at the domestic box office (video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie immediately shot to No. 1), and currently sits at $72 million, putting it in serious danger of failing to hit the $100 million milestone in North America. This would be a disastrous result for a film with a reported production budget of $250 million.

Snow White received mixed-negative reviews from critics (it's now dropped to 40% on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences did seem to be getting a little more out of it for the most part (71%). That said, CinemaScore recently revealed that the movie has earned a B+ grade, which isn't terrible by any means, but is reportedly the lowest ever CinemaScore for any live-action Disney remake. The studio's most recent offering, Mufasa: The Lion King,...

Snow White Star Rachel Zegler's "Narcissism" To Blame For Box Office Woes According To Producer's Son
Image
Disney's Snow White hit theaters last Friday, and the movie has not been performing very well at the box office, making just $43 million over the course of its opening weekend in the U.S. The latest updates put the fantasy adventure at just under $50M domestic, but it still hasn't reached $100M worldwide.

Critics have not been overly kind to Disney's latest live-action remake, although it's important to note that the movie has been the source of "controversy" for quite a while, with stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot both coming in for backlash for their very different stances on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Zegler also made some comments about the original animated classic that didn't go over very well with fans.

This week, Variety published what many consider to be a "hit piece" on Zegler, and the article definitely suggests that the studio is at least partially laying the...

How ‘Snow White’s’ Magical Seven Dwarfs Stack Up Against Other CG Characters from Disney Live-Action Remakes
Image
Despite the controversy surrounding the seven dwarfs, the recently shuttered Mpc aimed to find the difficult sweet spot between painterly and photoreal in “Snow White,” translating them in a way that does justice to the hand-drawn aesthetic of Walt’s revolutionary debut feature from 1937. It’s shame that it’s one of the VFX studio’s last hurrahs, after working on the Oscar-winning “The Jungle Book” (2016), the Oscar-nominated “The Lion King” (2019), and the “Mufasa” (2024) prequel.

However, Mpc doesn’t stand alone. They followed Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” (2010), the first of the Disney live action remakes, which benefited from the tech achievements of Sony Pictures Imageworks, while Weta Digital created something iconic with the friendly dragon from David Lowery’s “Pete’s Dragon” (2016).

Let’s see how the dwarfs stack up against some of these other notable CG characters:

For “Snow White,” Mpc applied its photoreal animation skills...

Snow White Underperforms With $43 Million Debut; Captain America: Brave New World Passes $400M Worldwide
Image
Disney's Snow White arrived in theaters on Friday, and the Mouse House's latest live-action remake looks set for a disappointing opening weekend at the box office.

The musical fantasy adventure, which stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, came in under already modest $45 million estimates with a $43 million domestic debut. The movie took in another $44.3 million overseas, which means it will fail to hit its predicted $100 million global bow with just $87.3 million.

This was enough to give Snow White the No. 1 spot, and the movie is sure to benefit from a lack of big-screen competition for the next couple of weeks before A Minecraft Movie hits theaters.

A recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which obviously puts a lot of pressure on the movie to...

Snow White Now Set For $45M Debut After Recieving Worst CinemaScore Of Any Disney Live-Action Remake
Image
Disney's Snow White is now in theaters, and the Mouse House's latest live-action remake isn't exactly off to the most magical start at the domestic box office.

The musical fantasy adventure, which stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, took in $16 million on Friday (including Thursday pre-shows), which is just slightly higher than 2019's Dumbo.

Despite initial estimates of $50 million, the movie is now on track for a $45 million (some believe it'll be closer to $48M) opening weekend in the U.S., but is still expected to pass (or at least hit) $100 million worldwide by Monday.

A recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which obviously puts a lot of pressure on the movie to become a massive box office success. The film won't have...

'Snow White' gets one thing right (and it's a big one)
Image
To say that Disney's latest live-action remake was long-awaited would be an insult, but Snow White has at last come to theatres everywhere. While social media platforms around the interweb are on fire with the amount of vitriol for this film, is it really 100% bad?

Behind-the-scenes drama aside, the film itself will still resonate well with families with children, but not the Disney purist. Be that as it may, even this die-hard Disnerd will admit that the film at least has one advantage over its predecessor.

Heigh-Ho, let's go!

Rachel Zegler's Snow White might not be everyone's favorite princess, and Gal Gadot's performance might also come with mixed reviews, but this writer certainly wasn't expecting the dwarves to be the most memorable feature (at least in a positive light). They aren't perfect, but they are still a refreshing take on the original characters.

‘Snow White’ Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Who in Disney’s Live-Action Remake?
Image
Disney’s live-action “Snow White” is here, taking the 1937 animated film into the real world, dwarves and all.

Although technically, in this version, they aren’t dwarves. As explained in the movie, they’re magical creatures that have lived in the woods for hundreds of years. That said, they still take on the names of the original seven dwarves.

And of course, there are some recognizable humans on screen as well as lending their voices to the merry bunch.

So, here are all the faces — and voices — you’ll need to know.

Snow White is Disney’s very first princess, and she’s brought to life here by Rachel Zegler. She made her big screen debut in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” remake, and has since starred in movies like “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,...

All the Songs in ‘Snow White’: Does the Live-Action Remake Include Songs From the Original?
Image
Disney’s latest live-action remake of one of their classic animations is “Snow White,” and if you’re wondering how close it sticks to the original, you’re not alone. Especially when it comes to the songs.

Now in theaters, the film follows Snow White (Rachel Zegler), a young princess who loses both of her parents and now lives with just the Evil Queen. Snow remembers the kingdom as it was under her parents’ rule though, pushing the Queen to act with kindness and fairness. You can guess how that goes.

In terms of story, it does deviate from the original 1937 film in various places — including the songs. For the 2025 version, Disney tapped Egot-winning “La La Land” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known together as Pasek and Paul, to create original songs for the film. But don’t worry, you’ll definitely hear a few of the classics.

10 Upcoming Big Budget Hollywood Movies We Fear Will Bomb at the Box Office
Image
The film business has always been a gamble, and it is not easy for every project or movie to turn out to be a success. A high-stakes game where the odds are always greater, each year, hundreds of millions of dollars, hard work, effort, and time are spent on making blockbuster films, hoping for record-breaking box office returns. However, as history stands as a testament, not every big-budget spectacle turns out to be a major hit, and more often than not, they end up underperforming.

Hollywood has no shortage of big-budget spectacle | Credit: Oppenheimer / Universal Pictures

Even though the said big-budget films might have major filmmakers, screenwriters, or A-list actors attached to them, they sometimes end up flopping disastrously. And it is a feat that fans, critics, and Hollywood witness each and every year. Well, the box office in 2025 isn’t going to be any different, for sure.

‘Snow White’: What the Critics Are Saying
Image
Ahead of the wide release of Disney’s Snow White, the film’s first reviews from critics have been rolling in on Wednesday, and they’ve been decidedly mixed.

Directed by Marc Webb, the live-action adaptation of the 1937 Disney animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sees a princess, Snow White (Rachel Zegler), join forces with seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her cruel stepmother, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot).

For years, the film has been under fire for a combination of controversies, including Zegler’s casting and her opinionated remarks about the original animated film. The star also drew heat for her hostile reaction to Donald Trump’s re-election (she later apologized) and her pro-Palestine stance. People on social media have also attempted to paint a feuding narrative between Zegler and Gadot, the latter of which has spoken out against antisemitism and advocated for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Rachel Zegler's Snow White Remake Continues to Be Polarizing With Debut Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The debut score has been revealed for the new Snow White remake. Even ahead of its release, the film was rather polarizing, and that trend will continue with the divisive Rotten Tomatoes score.

Heading into its opening weekend, Snow White has garnered a debut score on Rotten Tomatoes of 48%. Initially, the early reactions from critics on social media were very promising, though with many other critics having more harsh opinions, the Rotten Tomatoes score is almost firmly right in the middle of the road. The number may continue to fluctuate as added reviews come in, but this is a clear indicator that the critics can't agree on how they feel about Snow White.

"Snow White offers a fresh spin on the classic tale that is elevated to the realm of a new original musical thanks to tracks by Pasek and Paul," reads one glowing review by Kristen Maldonado of Pop Culture Planet.

Snow White Set For $100 Million Global Debut As Less Positive Social Media Reactions Land
Image
Disney's Snow White arrives in theaters this weekend, and updated box office estimates are in. We also have some more social media reactions following the latest press screenings.

According to Deadline, the Mouse House's latest live-action remake is on track to take in between a $45M-$50M in North America and another $55M abroad for a worldwide debut of around $100M.

This wouldn't usually be seen as a bad start, but a recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which puts a lot of pressure on the movie to become a massive box office success. The movie won't have much in the way of competition for a while, but it'll need strong legs to get it where it needs to be.

Snow White First Reactions Land Following World Premiere... And They Might Just Surprise You
Image
The first social media reactions to Snow White are starting to come in following last night's world premiere in LA, and they are quite a bit more positive than you may have been expecting.

Though we are used to seeing a lot of gushing first reactions for pretty much every movie, Disney's latest live-action remake has come in for backlash from all corners for a number of reasons. The trailers didn't exactly do much to build anticipation, either, even among those who would usually look forward to Disney fare.

Disney held a scaled back premiere for the movie with no press invited to interview the stars on the red carped, and many believe the reason comes down to supposed "controversies" surrounding lead stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.

Here's what actor Martin Klebba - who provides the voice of Grumpy - had to say about the premiere during an interview with THR.

Snow White Actor Believes Disney Was "Afraid" To Invite Press To The World Premiere
Image
The world premiere of Disney's live-action Snow White movie was held last night (we'll have the first reactions for you a little later on), but the event lacked the glitz and glam we're used to seeing when the Mouse House usually screens a new film for the first time.

Press were not invited to interview the stars on the red carpet in favor of "a more celebratory, family-friendly afternoon event to match the tone and target audience for the film."

The real reason is believed to be at least partially due to "controversies" surrounding leads Rachel Zegler, who has been an outspoken supporter of Palestine and critic of President Donald Trump, and Gal Gadot, who has come to the defence of her home country of Israel. There have also been reports that both actresses didn't really get along while shooting the movie (although this has been disputed).

Martin Klebba, who...

‘Snow White’ Red Carpet Photos: Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Marc Platt, Bob Iger & More
Image
Snow White, Disney’s live-action reimagining of the 1937 animated classic (itself based on the darker Brothers Grimm German fairytale), had its world premiere at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre today ahead of its March 21 release in theaters. Notable attendees included, of course, titular princess Rachel Zegler and evil queen Gal Gadot, as well as Disney CEO Bob Iger and producer Marc Platt; also at the fete were enthusiastic girls donning yellow and blue, greeted by starlet Zegler, and members of the Boys and Girls Club of San Fernando and Malibu affected by the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.

Other cast members walking the carpet were Martin Klebba, Lorena Andrea, Jason Kravits, Dujonna Gift and Indriss Kargbo. Broadway stars and cast members Tituss Burgess, Andrew Barth Feldman and Andrew Burnap were not in attendance.

According to a press release, guests were treated to a variety of activities, including a “forest friends grove with rabbits,...

Rachel Zegler & Gal Gadot Attend Scaled Back 'Snow White' Premiere In Los Angeles
Image
Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot hit the red carpet at the LA premiere of their movie Snow White held at El Capitan Theater on Saturday (March 15) in Hollywood.

The 23-year-old and the 39-year-old actresses star as Snow White and Evil Queen, respectively, and were both seen meeting young girls dressed as the titular character.

Also in attendance were their co-stars Martin Klebba (Grumpy), Jason Kravits (Sneezy), George Salazar (Happy), Andrew Grotelueschen (Sleepy), Emilia Faucher (Young Snow White), Lorena Andrea (Good Queen), Dujonna Gift (Maple) and Idris Kargbo (Bingley), as well as director Marc Webb, producer Marc Platt, songwriters Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, Disney stars Joshua Colley and Malachi Barton, Rachel Bloom, David Dastmalchian and Japanese boy band JO1.

Inside Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Premiere With Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot
Image
When Rachel Zegler stepped onto the red carpet at the world premiere of Disney’s “Snow White” on Saturday afternoon in Hollywood, the newest Disney princess was greeted by a smaller-than-usual assembly of photographers to capture her light pink ballgown and dazzling diamonds.

Zegler’s co-star Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, soon followed, also smiling dutifully for the cameras assembled in the center of the tented venue outside the El Capitan Theatre that hosted the pre-party celebration ahead of the 3:30 p.m. screening.

Instead of the usual lineup of dozens of red carpet reporters, the only interviewers they encountered were employed by Disney, like Jodi Benson, who voiced Ariel in the studio’s 1989 animated classic “The Little Mermaid.” Such was the “scaled-back” premiere of “Snow White,” which hits theaters on March 21.

Cast members Martin Klebba, Jason Kravits, George Salazar, Andy Grotelueschen, Emilia Faucher, Lorena Andrea, Dujonna Gift,...

Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 11 Review: White Lies Part 1
They killed Chief Taylor.

He was often at odds with Sharon and the detectives about how to proceed, focused on handling the media during difficult cases, and recently responded to bigotry with a smile and a soft word.

His part was never huge, but he was an important part of the operation anyway. And as of the beginning of Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 11, he was dead.

His death was surprising and sad, and the Major Crimes Unit's reactions to it were nothing short of riveting, emotional drama.

Rusty: I don't wanna just sit around. I wanna help. Dr. Joe was my friend.

Provenza: Rusty. I have known Russell Taylor from his first day. We are all dealing with tragedy.

Permalink: Rusty. I have known Russell Taylor from his first day. We are all dealing with tragedy. Added: September 05, 2016

Provenza didn't even have a real wisecrack the whole hour. He was gentle but firm with Rusty,...

The Weird, Wonderful Winners of the #NYITAwards
The spirit of the 2014 New York Innovative Theatre Awards can best be summed up by what presenter Terry Schreiber said when he walked onstage: “It’s great to be home.” For the 10th year running, some of New York’s most inventive artists convened Sept. 22 at Baruch Performing Arts Center's Mason Hall to celebrate the sense of community that comes from making independent theater. A rousing group rendition of Petula Clark’s “Downtown” kicked off the ceremony, with pirouettes and glittering sequins galore. Host Jason Kravits set the evening’s tone when he ripped his tie off, exclaiming, “Fuck it!” He then appeared periodically wearing fewer and fewer clothes, eventually emerging in an outrageously neon jumpsuit. Throughout the presentation of awards there were palpable examples of the enthusiasm, energy, and passion that characterize New York’s independent theater scene. Becky Baumwoll, in accepting the award for best ensemble on behalf of Broken Box Mime Theater,...

'The Michael J. Fox Show' episode 6, 'Teammates': Mike fails to have Annie's back
Should a spouse support his or her partner unconditionally?

Such was the debate between Mike (Michael J. Fox) and Annie (Betsy Brandt) in "Teammates," Thursday's (Oct. 24) episode of NBC's "The Michael J. Fox Show," resulting from Annie calling out a neighbor who pushed his way into their apartment building's elevator before they could get out.

The neighbor later cold-shoulders the eager-to-please Mike -- inspiring Mike to try to make amends by telling him Annie was "off her meds" during the elevator showdown. Annie then is surprised when the man greets her warmly, expressing compassion for her "bipolar disorder."

Mike doesn't choose the most advisable words by explaining to her, "I was just trying to clean up your ... ." And a mildly furious Annie finishes his sentence with, "Mess!," leading Mike to tell her she's sometimes "a little hard on people, and I have to smooth things over from time to time.

“Smash” Recap: Hashtag #60MinutesCloserToDeath
Previously, on Smash

We open on yet another Bombshell rehearsal and the cabal has made the inexplicable decision to go with the workshop book, but still graft that dreadful “Public Relations” number from last week onto it. No word on whether the agony auntie will be in drag like Mary Sunshine.

The intro ends and Derek directs the ensemble on how to avoid being crushed under the hideously expensive and unnecessary airplane that will be wheeling in from the wings. Tom and Eileen love it, but Julia declares it artistically void. Eileen shows just how deep in the weeds she is, declaring it a “Technicolor fantasy of the way Marilyn made herself”. This devolves into a fight over Eileen's choosing the old new book instead of the new new book culminating in the loathsome Jerry's saying they might have to cut a number to make room for this one because...

Ethan Coen, Elaine May and Woody Allen's "Relatively Speaking"
"Mothers come in for some serious savaging in Relatively Speaking, a reasonably savory tasting platter of comedies by Ethan Coen, Elaine May and Woody Allen that opened on Thursday night at the Brooks Atkinson Theater," writes Charles Isherwood in the New York Times, which ran May's interview with Coen and Allen last week. "Old-fashioned boulevard comedy — bright, easygoing fare that doesn't require the deciphering of plummy or crummy British accents — has more or less evaporated from the Broadway marketplace since the heyday of Neil Simon. Relatively Speaking brings back this once-popular genre in manageable bite-size portions, provided by starry showbiz names who sometimes seem to be channeling Mr Simon's gag-driven style. These plays are not going to do anything much in the way of reputation burnishing for their three celebrated authors — and certainly none is required — but they are packed with nifty zingers and have been directed by John Turturro...
