The best Martin Lawrence movies and TV shows started out thanks to his television roles, but he actually got his first big break thanks to Spike Lee. While he was mostly involved in boxing when he was in school, he started working as a comedian when he got out of school and actually began to make a living working standup shows. This led to Martin moving to New York City and joining The Improv, which got him a role on Star Search. That was his true big break, as it got him noticed in Hollywood.

This earned him the attention of Spike Lee, who gave Lawrence his first movie role in the award-winning Do The Right Thing. After this, he got roles in movies like House Party and Boomerang, and he finally was able to get his own starring role when he signed on to star in the comedy sitcom Martin.

Fox has cancelled Riot, their new comedy improv series, after four episodes.

Hosted by Rove McManus, Riot is an unscripted show that pairs guest celebrities with a group of regular players for comedy song, dance, and sketch challenges. The regulars are John Ross Bowie, Jamie Denbo, Brian Palermo, Jordan Black, Jessica McKenna, Meryl Hathaway and Rob Gleeson.

The show debuted in mid-May to a dismal 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.34 million viewers. The numbers have gone up and down since then but have all been terrible.

The network has pulled the show from the schedule effective immediately, along with I Wanna Marry "Harry". The four remaining episodes may surface at some point in the future but there are currently no plans. Reruns of Fox comedies will fill the timeslot for the time being.
