Born in Colombia and raised in Mexico City, Rodrigo Garcia is a Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award-winning screenwriter, Emmy-nominated director, Golden Globe-nominated producer, and author. A significant figure in independent film for over two decades, Garcia's notable films include the Academy Award-nominated Albert Nobbs (2011), starring Glenn Close; Mother and Child (2009), with Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, and Samuel L. Jackson; Raymond & Ray (2022), starring Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke; and Netflix's Familia (2023), starring Daniel Giménez Cacho and Maribel Verdú.

Upcoming, Rodrigo will release his second Spanish-speaking original film with Netflix, The Follies (Las locuras), on November 20. The film follows six women in Mexico City who are bonded by a shared "friend"- madness. It visits us all, prompting us to distill reality, make bold decisions and transform our lives. Led by a ground-breaking performance from Cassandra Ciangherotti, the film also features Ilse Salas, Ángeles Cruz, Natalia Solián, Naian González Norvind and Fernanda Castillo, with Adriana Barraza, Alfredo Castro, Raúl Briones, Monica del Carmen and Vicky Araico rounding out the supporting cast.

His critically acclaimed debut, Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her (2000), won the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival. His second film, Nine Lives (2005), garnered Independent Spirit nominations for directing and screenwriting and won Best Film at the Locarno Film Festival. Garcia's films Last Days in the Desert (2015) and Four Good Days (2020) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Garcia has directed episodes of acclaimed television series including The Sopranos (2004), Six Feet Under (2002-2003), and The Affair (2018), and was an Emmy nominee for directing the pilot of Big Love. He co-created HBO's In Treatment (2008), the U.S. adaptation of the Israeli series BeTipul, earning Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and a WGA Award for his work. More recently, Garcia executive produced limited series adaptations of News of a Kidnapping (2022) for Amazon Prime and Santa Evita (2022) for Hulu, and was pilot director of the latter. He is an executive producer of the acclaimed Netflix adaptation of his father Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude (2024).

Garcia is Co-CEO of Indigenous Media, producing original digital content, and co-created the digital drama channel WIGS. His memoir, A Farewell to Gabo and Mercedes (2021), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.
