Netflix Renews 'Long Story Short' Despite Season One Not Being Out Yet
Image
Show renewals are hard to get nowadays. Several factors influence a series' chances of growth. Many networks and streamers look for high audience viewership, how much the show gains traction in the media, especially on social apps, the financial side (how costly it is to make the show), etc. Whatever doesn't yield a return on its investment gets the "doomed" canceled tag. Yet, there are times a show hears the sweet sounds of renewal, even before season 1 becomes available. Netflixjust made the rare decision to renew Raphael Matthew Bob-Waksberg's upcoming animated comedy, Long Story Short, weeks before its users can stream the debut season.

It seems like the streamer believes it'll be love at first sight with Netflix users and the new animation, which is set to premiere on August 22, 2025. According to The Hollywood Reporter, season 1 will have 10 episodes, and they'll be thirty minutes long each. News of the...

‘Very Important People’ Makeup Dept. Head Alex Perrone On “Toying” With Guests & Evolving Ideas: “It’s A Makeup Artist’s Dream”
Image
Working on makeup for an actor of a television series can be a time-consuming process, especially when prosthetics are involved. It’s even more impressive to find out that not only does Very Important People makeup department head Alex Perrone not get to sit down with the actor ahead of time for measurements and a makeup test, but she also has multiple looks to get right within a limited time frame, since the show films three episodes a day.

Dropout’s Very Important People is a series where comedians come up with a character to sit down for a fully improvised interview with host Vic Michaelis, after being given full makeovers — including makeup, prosthetics and costumes. Since the time in the makeup chair can vary, and the comedians are only supposed to have five to 10 minutes to create a character, Perrone and her team are also responsible for not only...

7 Excruciating Details About Jerry Lewis’ Greatest Disaster: ‘The Day the Clown Cried’
Image
Jerry Lewis’ unfinished disasterpiece, The Day The Clown Cried, might be the most famous movie that nearly no one has seen. But could that be about to change? A complete workprint of the film has appeared from nowhere, after actor Hans Crispin revealed he stole a copy and squirreled it away in a bank vault for decades, according to the Sweden Herald. The revelation is international news, but why all the fuss?

For the uninitiated, here are seven excruciating details about The Day The Clown Cried…

1 Jerry Lewis Plays A Silly Clown Who Leads Jewish Children to Their Deaths

The movie’s plot in a nutshell: A circus clown (Jerry) is imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp, where he unwittingly takes a group of children to Auschwitz and the gas chambers. Yeesh.

Lewis thought he was all wrong for the part. According to his memoir, Jerry Lewis In Person, he...

‘Game Changer’ Recap: Episode 3 (‘Earnest-est’) Brings Joker Auditions, Drops Bits for Belly Buttons and Spends $15K on Seal Song
Image
Spoiler alert: Details follow for Season 7, Episode 3 of “Game Changer,” which premiered May 5 on Dropout.

The bit-o-meter is dead. The Seal songs have been sung — twice. And three comedians just bared their souls (and navels) in what may be one of the most hilariously heartfelt episodes of “Game Changer” yet.

Season 7, Episode 3 of Dropout’s genre-defying series, titled “Earnest-est,” is a fever dream of vulnerability, theatricality and chaos — the kind that only host and Dropout CEO Sam Reich could mastermind.

This week’s contestants — Ally Beardsley (they/them), Zac Oyama (he/him) and Lisa Gilroy (she/her) — are no strangers to the Dropout universe. But none were prepared for what Sam had in store: a sincerity-based gauntlet where the only way to win was to drop the bits and dig into their tender comic cores.

The Bit-o-Meter Dies, So Sincerity Lives

The episode opens with the debut of the bit-o-meter,...

The Underrated Comedy That Jack Black Is (Surprisingly) Most Proud Of
Image
Jack Black and Kyle Gass first met in the mid-1980s, when the two young men were performing with the Actors' Gang, a performance troupe from Culver City, California. They bonded over their mutual taste in music, and the pair would end up spending a lot of time together at Gass' apartment, where Gass would teach Black how to play the guitar. By 1994, they had written one (1) song together, and performed live for the first time. As the lore goes, they hadn't settled on a band name yet, and put out a few choices to the audience. Their choices were the simple Pets or Meat, the silly Balboa's Biblical Theater, or Gass' favorite, The Axe Lords Featuring Gorgazon's Mischief. Eventually, though, the pair sort of insisted the audience choose Tenacious D, a term they got from a local basketball announcer (as in: tenacious defense).

Few remember the "Tenacious D" TV specials,...

‘Very Important People’ Director Tamar Levine & Host Vic Michaelis On Playing More In Season 2: “Everything Is A Wild Card On This Show”
Image
The first season of Dropout’s Very Important People had some of the most wild improvised characters interviewed by host Vic Michaelis, so it’s been no surprise that the second season has not only matched that energy but exceeded it. Still maintaining the “improv first,” no prior knowledge of the guest quality, Michaelis entered Season 2 with more backstory for their host character and a willingness to allow the guests to also become part of their backstory to broaden the show’s entire narrative.

After being given full makeovers — including makeup, prosthetics and costumes — comedians come up with a character to sit down for a fully improvised interview. Season 2 has seen some small changes to the show — including longer episodes which has knocked Very Important People out of eligibility for the Short Form Emmy category. Director Tamar Levine says its a “good problem to have” and it’s hard to disagree with her,...

CBS Comedy Series Ending After 2 Seasons, Reversing Recent Renewal
Image
The future was looking bright for the late-night comedy show After Midnight, as it had previously secured a renewal for another season. Unfortunately for fans, it's been revealed that Season 3 won't be moving forward after all.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, After Midnight is set to end after its current second season. CBS confirmed that the final episodes of the show ill air in June with no third season in the works. Its 12:35 a.m. time slot hasn't found a new replacement at this time, and it's still unclear if the network will hold onto that hour, or if it will go back to local stations' programming. The show was recently renewed for Season 3, but After Midnight will instead conclude with Season 2 so its host, Taylor Tomlinson, can turn her focus back to her stand-up comedy.

Tomlinson said in a statement, “Hosting After Midnight has genuinely been the experience of a lifetime,...

'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's Jeff Trammell Responds To Lead Star’s Woke Worries

The showrunner and head writer behind Marvel Animation's new Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Jeff Trammell, has now commented on lead actor Hudson Thames’ questionable comments regarding fears that the series would be “annoying and woke.” Taking part in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything,” Trammell was asked about the comments, with the writer believing that Thames simply “misspoke.”

“Ha, I love Hudson and didn’t focus too much on what he said. I believe he simply misspoke, and I know that’s been weighing on him. ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Review: Disney+’s New Web-Slinging Adventure Offers Throwback Charm but Little Innovation
Image
I’m far too young to make first-hand references to “How Ya Gonna Keep ’em Down on the Farm (After They’ve Seen Paree?),” but I like the sentiment of the World War I era banger, because it refers to something we ponder as viewers and critics.

After Disney+ and Star Wars proved the nuance and maturity possible in a series like Andor, how do you go back to shows that are just fun or cute or entertaining? It’s not a fair comparison! Andor was great, but Skeleton Crew mostly lived up to its own aspirations. Who’s to say that a serious-minded semi-Marxist critique of economic desperation and the rise of fascism in the Star Wars universe is somehow harder than transplanting the 1980s Amblin sensibility to the same universe? Or somehow better? It’s nice to have both, darn it.

‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Star Praises New Animated Series: “my biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke”

Hudson Thames is an actor known for voicing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marvel’s animated projects. He first played the role in ‘What If…?’ Season 1, specifically in the episode where Spider-Man faces a zombie apocalypse.

This marks his second time portraying the iconic character, offering a fresh take on Spider-Man in a world featuring characters new to the MCU, such as Norman Osborn and Lonnie Lincoln.

Thames recently commented on the upcoming show and the actor did have some worries, but luckily they did not come to fruition.

Thames praised ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,’ saying he found it well-written and realistic. He admitted his initial fear was that it might feel “annoying and woke,” but he was relieved that it didn’t. Thames, who has younger brothers,...

'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' Already Renewed for Two More Seasons on Disney+
Image
Disney clearly has great faith in the latest Disney+ Marvel series, as work on Season 2 and Season 3 of the animated outing Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has already begun. According to executive producer Brad Winderbaum, who appeared recently on The Movie Podcast, the future of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man looks very bright indeed, with Winderbaum revealing that he has already “read all the scripts” for Season 2.

"I've fallen so head over heels in love with these characters and I also, by the way, I've now read all the scripts for season 2. We're halfway through the animatics.

What Jeff is building brick by brick in this show is starting to pay off. You feel it in season 1. You grow connected to these characters so when everything starts to lock into place and starts to pay off by the end of the season, I feel it in my soul. It just gets deeper and deeper in subsequent seasons.

'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' TV-g Rating is a Marvel First
Image
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is about to break ground for an episodic Marvel Disney+ series in a way fans were not expecting. Marvel Studios is kicking off 2025 with the debut of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which will premiere on Disney+ on Jan. 29, 2025. Originally conceived as a prequel to the MCU named Spider-Man: Freshman Year, the series was retooled and retitled to be set in a different universe, allowing the creators a free canvas to play on.

The Direct reports that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be rated TV-g, confirmed by executive producer Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt on The Official Marvel Podcast when she said, "This is a TV-g show. It is totally for all audiences". The typical Marvel Disney+ series is rated TV-14, with Echo being the first TV-ma series soon to be followed by Daredevi: Born Again. While I Am Groot is TV-g, it is a series of shorts instead of...

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Writer Delves Into 'Damage Progression' Detail in the Trailer
Image
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man head writer Jeff Trammell recently touched upon a "damage progression" detail in the trailer. This comes after pieces of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man promo art spotlighted 3 different Spidey suits in December.

Trammell brought this subject over on X, professing in response to the Superlative Spidey X account affirming that it is seen that when Peter's prototype suit is damaged, he sews the torn part with another piece of cloth, "Yes! I loved the idea of doing some damage progression on Peter's suit as he gets into bigger battles."

'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' Trailer Divides Marvel Fans
Image
Spider-Man is getting a new look for his upcoming Disney+ animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. As with most comic book adaptations (and Disney projects in general), fans are deeply divided on whether they approve of the web-slinger's upcoming show. While certain producers blame negative press and critic reviews for fan backlash, the fans can speak for themselves, and boy are they talking about this new trailer. Fans are being extremely vocal in the comments on Marvel Studios' post about the trailer, either loving or hating the new version of the classic hero.

Disney is taking some risks in its next re-telling of Spidey's story, and some fans are clinging to the classic iteration as if their lives depended on it. Many are pointing to the race-swap of the Osborne family as a reason to hate the upcoming series, but fans that aren't as sensitive to characters switching skin...

While fans await the delayed third installment of the Spider-Verse franchise and fourth film in the Tom Holland-starring movies, Disney+ will drop yet another Spider-Man series — Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man — next month.

On Sunday, Marvel Animation shared the new trailer for the series, which takes place in an alternate universe from the live-action films, one in which high-school student Peter Parker is mentored by Norman Osborn (voiced by Colman Domingo, and the villain known as Green Goblin in the other timelines) and not Tony Stark.

‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Trailer: Peter Parker Goes Back to School in Animated Prequel Series
Image
Marvel has released the first trailer for its new animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.”

The show follows a parallel timeline where Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, is mentored by Norman Osborn, the alter-ego of his archenemy the Green Goblin, instead of Tony Stark like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Cast members include Hudson Thames as the titular web-slinger, Colman Domingo as Osborn, Kari Wahlgren as Aunt May and Hugh Dancy as Doctor Octopus. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise their roles from the “Daredevil” Netflix series, and Paul F. Tompkins will take on the role of classic Marvel Comics villain The Wizard.

In the trailer, we get a good look at two new Spider-Man suits: One appropriately casual for a teenage Parker, and the other with a more traditional fit and sleek black-and-white color scheme. There is also no shortage of action in this first look. After busting up some live-streaming baddies,...

George Clooney Almost Starred in the Christmas Disaster 'Jack Frost'

Quick Links George Clooney Dodges a Major Box Office Bullet Michael Keaton's Notorious Holiday Flop Both Hollywood Greats Had Epic '90s Duds

George Clooney and Michael Keaton are two of Hollywood's most illustrious leading men, and it's hard to remember a period when they weren't completely dominating every film and role they tackled. However, the late '90s proved to be a precarious time in both prolific actors' careers, as the movie stars notably appeared in the biggest box office flops that tarnished their otherwise impressive resumes.

Keaton ended up headlining the holiday stinker Jack Frost and Clooney the epic superhero flop Batman & Robin, both of which were major critical and commercial duds that garnered unwanted attention for the actors and left them questioning their statuses in the entertainment industry. As we all know, the pair were able to bounce back after these cinematic stinkers, but some...

Every Marvel Studios And DC Studios Movie And TV Show Confirmed To Be Released In 2025
Image
2024 has been a mixed bag for comic book movies, though Deadpool & Wolverine went a long way in making up for the disappointment caused by Joker: Folie à Deux and Kraven the Hunter, for example.

For Marvel Studios, 2025 will still see the release of 10 big and small screen titles both in theaters and on Disney+ (courtesy of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation) as we race towards the end of the Multiverse Saga.

As for DC Studios, it's going to be a slightly more low-key 365 days, though the one movie and TV show we're getting promise to be huge for the new Dcu. Now, as this year winds down, we thought it would be a good time to remind you of everything heading our way in 2025. That includes details on what to expect and when you'll see them.

Invincible Season 3 Trailer Enters The "Blue Suit Era" As Kid-Omni-Man Makes His Debut
Image
The action-packed first trailer for the third season of Prime Video's acclaimed adult animated series, Invincible, debuted during Ccxp last night, and has now been officially released online (via Toonado.com).

Like the recent poster, the trailer gives away quite a few major plot points including the fact that Mark Grayson and Cecil Steamman ultimately become enemies after some particularly shady dealings from the latter.

We also get a first look at Oliver Grayson suited-up as Kid-Omni-Man (The Mauler Twins probably shouldn't be taking this youngster quite so lightly), a brand-new villain known as Powerplex, Mark donning his new costume, and much more.

Enter the "Blue Suit Era" by checking out the trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

Invincible Trailer Leaked Screenshots Tease Some Major Season 3 Moments
Image
The first trailer for the third season of acclaimed adult animated series, Invincible, is expected to debut during Ccxp at some point tomorrow, but Prime Video mistakenly shared it on the streaming site a little early.

The teaser was quickly taken down, but not before some audio and quite a few high-quality screenshots were posted online.

Like yesterday's poster, it looks like the trailer is going to give away quite a few major plot points, including the fact that Mark Grayson and Cecil Steamman ultimately become enemies after some particularly shady dealings from the latter.

None of this will come as a surprise to anyone who's read the comics, but just in case, here's a spoiler warning.

Billie Eilish Says 'BoJack Horseman' is the "Greatest Show of All Time"
Image
Billie Eilish is just like us, man. One of the coolest pop singers in the game is the cover star of this month's Complex Magazine. And in the new interview, the James Bond theme songstress puts a finer point on just how relatable she is by revealing what her current TV show obsession is: the beloved and under-appreciated (but critically acclaimed) animated Netflix series, BoJack Horseman.

While chatting with the magazine's Eric Skelton, Eilish revealed that she not only loves the show, but she's watched it numerous times and believes that "it's the greatest show of all time." Which we are generally won't to agree with.

"I've just been thinking about BoJack Horseman constantly," the singer confessed. "It's all I think about." To which we say: same, girl, same.

Invincible: First Official Season 3 Poster Reveals A Pretty Big Spoiler
Image
There was a significant gap (over two years) between the first and second seasons of Prime Video's Invincible, but we had been assured that the wait for season 3 wouldn't be as long, which was recently confirmed via the release of the first teaser.

Invincible will return to our screens on February 6, 2025 - and there will be no pesky mid-season break!

Now, the streamer has released the first official season 3 key art for the adult animated series, and if you're not familiar with the comics, the image counts as a pretty big spoiler!

The recent teaser saw a now 19-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) meeting with Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins) in a café in a similar set-up to the season 2 teaser with Allen the Alien. Cecil is not happy (for a change) with Mark taking a lengthy break from crime-fighting, and tells the young hero that he needs more training if...

#Xodus: Bluesky Hits 20M Users as People Continue to Flee X
Image
A trickle is becoming a flood for Bluesky, the social media company that has seen spectacular growth since the presidential election. On Tuesday, the microblogging platform hit 20 million users, after averaging 1 million new users per day over the past five days.

According to a Nov. 13 post by Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, the site had 6 million users in late August, nearly 11 million in late October and hit 15 million users on Nov. 15. It added another 5 million users in just five days, with the explosive growth seen since Nov. 5, the day of the election, accelerating.

Bluesky has been one of the main beneficiaries of millions of users leaving Elon Musk’s X, as the site formerly known as Twitter descends into a mess of bots, extreme content, crypto scams, ads, pornography, racism, transphobia and misinformation.

Hollywood has been quick to adopt Bluesky, particularly with the entertainment industry’s aversion to the political views of Musk,...

“Bluesky Has the Juice”: Celebrities Flee “Toxic” X for Rival Social Media Site
Image
Call it a blue wave. A host of actors, directors, musicians, journalists and other prominent people are dumping X (formerly Twitter) and flocking to social media platform Bluesky.

In the past week, an increasing number of bold-faced names have announced that they plan to post less on X, or leave the platform altogether, citing myriad issues with the social media company, including far right content, hate speech, transphobia, racism, harassment, pornography, crypto scams, bots and the political views of owner Elon Musk, the billionaire oligarch who is a vocal supporter and financial backer of Donald Trump.

Musk’s ownership of X and his updates to content moderation on the platform have been pushing brands and media groups closer and closer to the exit. Why A Star Trek Multiverse Story Is The Perfect Way To End Its Animated Comedy
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5.Star Trek: Lower Decks holds a very specific place in the franchise, and it seems to be setting up its final season in a way that perfectly encapsulates the show's chaotic vibe. Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5's cast is responsible for bringing the animated characters to a fitting conclusion, as the show is set to end when the finale airs on December 19, 2024. When it does, the Star Trek timeline could very well boast a huge canonical event that other projects within the franchise will need to acknowledge.

Mutliverse episodes aren't unheard of in Star Trek, as the saga has used the sci-fi trope since Star Trek: The Original Series season 2, episode 4 "Mirror, Mirror," introduced the Mirror Universe. However, the franchise is very careful not to overuse these types of storylines, as they always have the possibility of getting out of...
