Robert Logan, ‘77 Sunset Strip’ and ‘Wilderness Family’ Actor, Dies at 82
Image
Robert Logan, who succeeded Edd “Kookie” Byrnes as the valet parking attendant on the famed ABC detective show 77 Sunset Strip and starred as the dad in a series of return-to-nature adventure movies, has died. He was 82.

Logan died May 6 of natural causes in Estero, Florida, his son, Anthony Logan, told The Hollywood Reporter. His family chose to wait until this week to announce his death.

After Gerald Lloyd Kookson III was promoted from parking attendant at Dino’s Lodge — a nightclub owned by Dean Martin — to partner and private investigator at the detective agency next door, the Brooklyn-born Logan joined Warner Bros. Television’s 77 Sunset Strip to play his replacement, another hipster named J.R. Hale.

On the swanky series that starred Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Roger Smith as the crime solvers Stu Bailey and Jeff Spencer, respectively, Logan portrayed Hale on 50 episodes of the show’s final two seasons,...

It Always Rains on Sunday
Image
All those British crime films once deemed undesirable for the National Image are beginning to get the attention they deserve. This story of a single day in a working class section of London has plenty of criminal activity but blends it in with the everyday crimes of desperation and boredom. The Sandigate girls are flirting with trouble but Googie Withers’ Rose Sandigate has gone much further: she’s hiding an escaped fugitive who was once her lover in the vain hope of recapturing her lost youth. Director Robert Hamer examines a dozen distinctive characters on the edge of respectability, in one of the most original ‘Brit noirs’ we’ve seen to date.

The Student Teachers
Here's another installment featuring Joe Dante's reviews from his stint as a critic for Film Bulletin circa 1969-1974. Our thanks to Video Watchdog and Tim Lucas for his editorial embellishments! Exploitable potpourri of sex, comedy, action with high school setting has enough funny stuff to draw and amuse youth trade in ballyhoo markets and drive‑ins. Rating: R.

Although The Student Teachers follows the New World "student nurse" formula almost slavishly (pretty girls, lotsa nudity, low‑comedy plotting, violent black subplot dragged in by the heels), it stacks up as a nifty little programmer by virtue of fast pacing and an engagingly breezy comic style. Where aggressively promoted, it holds strong lures for the general youth trade and should prove an especially appealing drive‑in item.

The makers of last year's Night Call Nurses have simply lifted the gags and situations from that film and transplanted them to a high school setting,...

The Adventures of the Wilderness Family - DVD Review
.You don.t want to grow up ignorant, do you?. No that.s not Joey Lawrence on the cover, but the classic family adventure hit returns to DVD. It may not be the most realistic depiction of a family going back to nature but it does have folksy charm. Skip (Robert Logan) and Pat Robinson (Susan Damante-Shaw) are sick of the rat race and congestion of city life. There.s also another type of congestion as their daughter Jenny (Hollye Holmes) is suffering from allergies and exhaustion. So they do the logical thing, they pack up the family dog and son Toby (Ham Larsen) and buy some land in the mountains and live off the land. Their neighbors are...

Take A Trip Back To The Eco-Conscious 70s With "The Wilderness Family"
Skip Robinson is fed up with city life. So when his daughter is vaguely diagnosed with some ailment caused by city smog, Skip decides this is the perfect reason to ditch the real world and move him and his family to the middle of the wilderness. Billed as the first film in “the greatest family series of all time,” Adventures of the Wilderness Family is a feel-good family film from 1975 about enjoying the great outdoors.

Robert F. Logan as Skip looks built for wilderness survival, but his wife Pat (Susan Damante-Shaw) seems more hesitant to jump into that life. Despite her worries, she brings her two children—Jenny (Hollye Holmes) and Toby (Ham Larsen)—into the beautiful and dangerous Colorado wilderness. They quickly build a Lincoln Log cabin and settle into the outdoorsy life.
