Richard Kelly Reflects on ‘Donnie Darko’ and Finding Catharsis in Apocalyptic Narratives
Last year marked the 15-year anniversary of Richard Kelly’s debut cult curio, Donnie Darko. On March 31st, the film will hit theaters once again in a brand-new, director-approved 4K restoration. While the film’s cult-status has elevated it into its own separate canon alongside other 21st-century indie-cult hits, Kelly’s two other films — the positively delirious and daring Southland Tales and the labyrinthine sci-fi period piece The Box — prove that he is a director deserving of much greater consideration. Sadly it’s been about eight years since a new film of his has been in theaters, but the time is surely ripe. Kelly’s visions of the end-times feel just as urgent now as they did when we were first introduced to them back in 2001. And since we’re living in a time when the formerly reclusive Terrence Malick is miraculously pumping out multiple films a year, there’s...

Limited Partnership (2014)
How I Shot That (Laff Edition): Shooting a Marriage Equality Rally in the Rain for 'Limited Partnership'
Limited Partnership (2014)
You have to be pretty passionate to work at something for 14 years. Thomas G. Miller certainly was. "Limited Partnership," his new documentary, was big deal for him, and rightfully so. The powerful piece documents the life and times of Filipino-American Richard Adams and Australian Tony Sullivan, who were one of the first same-sex couples in the world granted a legal marriage. It premiered at this year's Los Angeles Film Festival on June 14. [Editor's Note: Indiewire reached out to filmmakers with films playing at the 20th La Film Festival (June 11-19) to ask them about how they shot their indie, and what advice they had for other filmmakers. We'll be posting their responses throughout the run of the festival. Go Here for the master list.] What was the most difficult shoot on your movie and how did you pull it off? The most difficult shoot in "Limited Partnership" was a marriage equality rally in downtown La in the rain. We had one primary camera shooting the stage that had...

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.08: "Fracked"
A Db is found in a spring. Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) comments they're all named 'Anthony' and in cement shoes. Ray (Laurence Fishburne) comments on it being a sulphur spring and if bathed in, can provide a beautiful complexion. Brass remarks that the Db's complexion has improved. The Db has an 'L' shaped wound on his head which Ray explains means his head was hit with a pistol. David (David Berman) says the water's nice. Ray believes he was dead when he hit the water or afterwards. Nick (George Eads) thinks it's a body dump. Ray thinks the Pmi was about 4-7 hours and takes a water sample. Just as in last week's episode, Ray, Nick and Brass are called to the Cs together again. Nick spots an oil deposit on the ground, probably from the vehicle that dumped the Db. Also like last episode, Doc Robbins (Robert David Hall) and...
