Jason Sudeikis' New Animated Movie Breaks Dismal Box Office Record In Opening Weekend
Image
A new animated movie featuring the voice of Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis has broken a major 2024 box office record with its dismal opening weekend. The year has seen some major animated hits debut in theaters, including the sequels Kung Fu Panda 4 ($549.1 million worldwide) and Despicable Me 4 ($965.2 million). On top of that, the Pixar movie Inside Out 2 earned $1.696 billion, not only becoming the No. 1 movie of the year so far but the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.

However, 2024 animated movies have largely continued a recent trend of debuting with low to middling opening weekends and then becoming sleeper hits. This includes The Wild Robot, which has garnered Oscar buzz as its release, which debuted with $35.7 million, slowly climbed past $200 million worldwide and counting. Similarly, The Garfield Movie only opened to $24 million but achieved a global gross of $257.2 million. In spite of this, the new Sudeikis movie...

A Confused Animated Family Film With Poorly Developed Characters
Image
Hitpig had its sights set on becoming a family-friendly hit animated movie, but the film missed the mark. When it comes to animated family films, they have several hurdles to overcome to please and entertain audiences of all ages while still delivering emotion, fun, and an engaging story. However, Hitpig seems to have gone all in on the goofy humor and left the movie with an unappealing and unenthusiastic story that, despite the novelty of a bounty hunter pig, can't make up for a movie with no stakes.

10 Cartoons From The 1990s That Had A Horror Feel
Image
The 1990s were an incredible time for spooky horror cartoons for children and adults. Cartoons and animated TV shows serve as the perfect medium for horror, as animation has unlimited potential for creating terrifying creatures. 1990s horror cartoons left a mark on young audiences due to their paranormal and bone-chilling nature. Cartoons with a horror feel diversified the content available for children and teenagers, and slapstick comedy and superhero cartoons were no longer the go-to favorite cartoons.

From horror shows dealing with paranormal life-threatening situations to zany ghouls, ghosts, and fun antics, the 1990s had a variety of horror shows that audiences could sink their teeth into. With cartoons like Scooby Doo, Where Are You! popularizing mysteries with ghouls and ghosts, the 1990s saw a rise in spooky cartoons for children. Saturday morning cartoons in the 1990s terrified and captivated young audiences and still send shivers down spines to this day.

The 15 Best Disney Channel Shows Of The 2000s, Ranked
Image
Although Disney Channel has existed since 1983, its slate of original programming only dates back as far as the late '90s, when the concept of Disney Channel Originals started to rise -- gradually overtaking the syndicated shows that originally took up most of the programming grid. In other words, the story of Disney Channel in the 2000s is the very story of how Disney's official TV hub came into its own as a brand.

If you look at the network's original shows from this period, there's a fascinating trajectory from tentative experiments at the turn of the century to more famous, more consolidated hits in the late 2000s, with both the Disney Channel sitcom and the Disney Channel original cartoon taking shape in real time as the institutions they now are. Though it's sometimes held in lower critical esteem than rivals like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, Disney Channel put out...

Official Trailer for Animated Comedy 'Hitpig!' Starring Jason Sudeikis
Image
"Don't ever run away again!" Viva Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for a wacky new animated movie called Hitpig!, produced by Aniventure. This weird British-Canadian animated comedy will be hitting US theaters in November this fall. While it sounds similar to Hit-Monkey, it's not really the same, because this one isn't about a hitman pig (unfortunately - would've been cool). In a futuristic cyberpunk world, Hitpig, a bounty hunter pig, sets out to capture an elephant named Pickles, but ends up finding themselves on a criss-crossing world adventure. Based on Berkeley Breathed's 2008 children's book "Pete & Pickles". Starring the voices of Jason Sudeikis as Hitpig, Lilly Singh, Rainn Wilson, Anitta, RuPaul, Hannah Gadsby, and Charlie Adler. How is this even a real concept for a movie? Clearly it's about setting animals free from circuses and zoos, but involving a bounty hunter pig who realizes money isn't worth it? Okay,...

Harry Shearer Wasn't The First Voice Of Mr. Burns On The Simpsons
Image
Many of the recurring faces on "The Simpsons" have the same voice: Harry Shearer. Alongside Hank Azaria, Shearer does more than double duty in playing the series' supporting cast. As a testament to his range, his roles run the gamut from nice guy Ned Flanders to milquetoast Principal Skinner (don't say Armin Tamzarian) to evil Mr. Charles Montgomery Burns, owner of the Springfield Nuclear Plant and Homer Simpson's boss.

Shearer is the definitive voice of Mr. Burns (he's been doing it for 30+ seasons), but he wasn't the first actor to voice the character. That would be the late Christopher Collins, who was briefly part of the "Simpsons" cast during its first season, which aired from 1989 to 1990. Collins voiced Burns in the following episodes: "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire," "Homer's Odyssey," "There's No Disgrace Like Home," and "The Telltale Head."

Shearer took over in the season 1 episode "Homer's Night Out.

Before “Monster High” There Was Rick Moranis in “Gravedale High” [TV Terrors]
Image
For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the short-lived animated series “Gravedale High” (aka “Rick Moranis in Gravedale High“), which aired on NBC in 1990.

During the era of Saturday Morning Cartoons, there was always this idea by studios to build on a big star’s name by giving them an animated vehicle. We saw it with Mr. T, Chuck Norris, Macaulay Culkin, and Gary Coleman, as well as comedians like Louie Anderson and Howie Mandel. John Candy got (the still celebrated) “Camp Candy,” while his Sctv colleague Rick Moranis headlined his own animated horror comedy series for kids: “Gravedale High.”

Rick Moranis garnered immense fame and cult status in the eighties and nineties with an iconic comedy career that carried over into big films like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. As a means of marketing off his momentum, an animated series was developed by NBC...

Who Is Mojo? The Interdimensional Villain From X-Men '97 Episode 4 Explained
Image
The latest episode of "X-Men '97," called "Motendo/Lifedeath, Part 1," features the return of Mojo, a longtime X-Men villain who made his debut in "Longshot" #3, published in November of 1985. Mojo was a horrible, mutilated cybernetic monster with robotic spidery legs and a series of mechanical tubes sprouting from his body. He ruled a dimension called the Mojoverse, and oversaw one of the realm's most popular TV shows, "Mojovision," a gladiatorial show wherein superpowered beings from across multiple dimensions would be forced to fight to the death. Mojo lived for ratings and only cared about watching his numbers increase. He was modeled after the shallow TV executives and schmoozing moneymen who oversee most creative efforts in Hollywood.

Mojo made a memorable appearance in two episodes of "X-Men: The Animated Series" wherein he was enthusiastically played by Canadian voice actor Peter Wildman. In "Mojovision", he snarled and cackled as he forced the...

The 10 Best Episodes Of Tiny Toon Adventures, Ranked
Image
Created by Ton Ruegger and overseen by executive producer Steven Spielberg, "Tiny Toon Adventures" debuted in September of 1990, marking a sea change in mainstream TV animation. "Tiny Toons," tapping into 1990s trends toward self-awareness, regularly addressed its own status as a cartoon show, and the characters would frequently give side-eyes to the audience, extract scripts on camera, or even exit their animation cels to cause havoc for the animators. The show's regular obliteration of the fourth wall reflected — and guided — the prevailing winking sarcasm of the 1990s, making it (and I am not exaggerating) a vital and definitive text of the decade. It's no coincidence that it landed the same year as Richard Linklater's "Slacker."

"Tiny Toons" was striking, funny, and launched an entire series of notable Spielberg-backed 1990s cartoons like "Animaniacs," "Histeria!," and "Freakazoid!"

The characters on "Tiny Toons" were largely all distaff "youth" counterparts of established Looney Tunes characters.

John Dimaggio Had A Star Wars Legend In His Corner During His Futurama Pay Dispute
Image
In the 31st century of Matt Groening's and David X. Cohen's "Futurama," Christmas has evolved. Instead of fir trees, for instance, people decorate palm trees. Gift exchanges are still common, but families don't merely gather together to enjoy the warmth of the holiday season. They gather together because a rogue robotic Santa Claus, judging the entire world to be "naughty," annually flies around the Earth murdering anyone outdoors with guns and missiles. Families gather out of fear. Robot Santa was initially played by John Goodman, but the role was taken over by John Dimaggio after his first appearance.

Eventually joining Robot Santa in his holiday shenanigans was the Kwanzaa-Bot played by late rapper Coolio, and, with the release of "Bender's Big Score" in 2007, the Chanukah Zombie played by Mark Hamill. The machinations of the film's plot had all of Earth's denizens stranded at the North Pole of Neptune,...

1 Beloved Walking Dead Survivor Was Originally Meant to be a Pervert
Image
Spoilers for The Walking Dead series! In The Walking Dead comic, the faithful clergy member known as Gabriel survived the zombie apocalypse for quite some time before meeting his grisly end, with series creator Robert Kirkman revealing Gabriel was originally supposed to be a perverted creep!

A character who premiered in 2009’s The Walking Dead #61 in the lead-up to the brutal five-part “Fear The Hunters” story arc, Gabriel Stokes quickly became Rick Grimes’ go-to man when the distraught survivors of his group needed guidance, as well as a valuable asset in their ever-present war against the undead.

Yet just after Gabriel’s Walking Dead comic introduction, Kirkman scripted a moment where fellow characters, Rosita and Abraham, got down and dirty, revealing in the same beat that the already creepy character of Eugene was watching them from afar -- a voyeuristic moment that the pair didn’t care about in the slightest.

How Did Bumblebee Lose His Voice?
Image
In the Transformers movies, one aspect of the hella-cool robots that doesn't get enough recognition is their voices. Optimus Prime's Peter Cullen gives the Autobot leader a deep, authoritative voice, as he has done since the days of the original 1980s cartoon. Hugo Weaving, who voiced Megatron in the first three films, gives the character something similar, only where Cullen deftly avoids sounding menacing, Weaving goes all in with a fearsome sense of danger behind his speech. Starscream's Charlie Adler gives the sniveling second-in-command the perfect vocal mix of sycophant and opportunist. And then there's fan favorite Bumblebee. It took over 10 years to finally hear the character's real voice, as provided by Dylan O'Brien in 2018's Bumblebee, and even then it was only for a brief period of time. Otherwise, his voice has been a Frankenstein of radio clips. So, what happened to his voice?...

“Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” – Nickelodeon Series Made ’90s Kids Fall in Love With Monsters
Image
For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,“ the fondly remembered Nickelodeon animated series that aired from 1994 through 1997.

Every Nickelodeon fanatic has their period where they thought the network really hit their stride. For me, 1994 was their real peak of pure kids entertainment. It was a time where they’d tapped into a wonderful momentum with programming blocks like Saturday Night’s Snick, weekday morning’s Nick Jr., and excellent series like “Rugrats,” “All That,” “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” “The Secret World of Alex Mack,” and a whole lot more.

It was also the year that “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” premiered.

Debuting officially on October 30th, 1994, the program was another of the many Klasky-Csupo produced animated shows that had dominated the airwaves for most of the Nickelodeon golden age. Breaking in to their tendency to spotlight the lesser explored corners of our society, “Aaahh!!! Real...

Our top film, ‘The Woman King’, bridges the gap between telling important, heartfelt stories, and providing an entertaining experience for movie-going audiences. Harley Quinn Episode 10 Review: Bensonhurst
Rosie Knight Jan 31, 2020

Harley heads home to reconnect with her roots in a charmingly mundane episode of Harley Quinn

Though the last outing of Harley Quinn might have been slightly lackluster, it turns out splitting up the crew of crims wasn't necessarily a bad thing. The 10th episode of animated series delves into the history of the (anti)heroine and looks at the impact that Harley and (her absence) has on those around her.

One of the funnest things about Harley Quinn is how much creative freedom the team behind it have been given, and they take full advantage of that here offering a completely new backstory that's as hilarious as it is completely and utterly ridiculous.

Harley's origin has long been one steeped in the baggage of being the Joker's girlfriend. Whether it's their toxic relationship or him driving her mad enough to fall in love with him we've...

Patton Oswalt Is M.O.D.O.K. in Marvel's New Hulu Animated Series
The full cast has been revealed for Marvel and Hulu's upcoming M.O.D.O.K. television series, which will feature Patton Oswalt as the titular supervillain. For those unfamiliar with the comic book character, he is often depicted as a small robot with an oversized head and very tiny limbs.

Describing more about himself and his purpose, M.O.D.O.K.'s title serves as an acronym for his full name, which stands for Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing. Although inherently evil, M.O.D.O.K.'s comical appearance makes it a bit hard to take him seriously, but that may work out for the better for the adult comedy series, especially with Patton Oswalt in the lead.

Several other names for the cast of Hulu animated series M.O.D.O.K. have also been revealed. Along with Patton's previously-revealed casting as M.O.D.O.K., the new castings...

‘Rocko’s Modern Life’ Creator Joe Murray on “Static Cling”, Rachel’s Transition, & More
More than 25 years ago, a highly stylized Nicktoon kickstarted the voice-acting careers of some of today's biggest names, like Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), and Mr. Lawrence (SpongeBob SquarePants). It was also one of the earliest projects for behind-the-scenes creatives like the late Stephen Hillenburg (SpongeBob SquarePants), Jeff "Swampy" Marsh (Phineas and Ferb), and Dan Povenmire (Phineas and Ferb). Also featuring the already legendary actor Charlie Adler, Rocko's Modern Life was a bit of a gamble by Nickelodeon and creator Joe Murray, who opted to bring in relatively unknown stand-…...

The Rocketeer Animated Series for Disney Junior Reveals Cast, Trailer
Joseph Baxter Alec Bojalad Jul 19, 2019

Disney’s dormant film franchise, The Rocketeer, will be revived as an animated series, starring a female hero, on Disney Junior.

The Rocketeer franchise is ready for another liftoff more than a quarter of a century after it was grounded. While rumblings in recent years have teased a reboot movie and even a straight sequel to the original 1991 film, Disney’s family-friendly genre-mixing action brand will soon manifest as an animated series on the Mouse’s youth-aimed cable platform, Disney Junior.

Disney has announced that production on The Rocketeer animated series has already commenced. The franchise-reviving cartoon will – apropos to its platform – be aimed at young children and families, targeting a release in 2019. The story will draw inspiration from The Rocketeer comic book series of Dave Stevens, which adhered to the original film. However, the series will follow the rocket pack-powered exploits of a young female hero.

Emily S. Whitten: Nickelodeon, Squishy Seats… and Me!
Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Nickelodeon Animation Studio and their new Entertainment Lab in Burbank, CA. I chatted with Chris Young, Senior Vice President for the Entertainment Lab; Chris Savino, creator of The Loud House; and Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz, creator of Shimmer and Shine. I played around in their newly developed immersive and interactive Vr experience; sat in on a recording session for Shimmer and Shine; stopped in to say hi to Ciro Nieli, executive producer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and see his cool office; and viewed all kinds of creativity in progress during the studio tour.

And let me tell you: the experience was awesome.

As in, so awesome, I’m wondering how Alternate Me could get a job there. Because let’s be honest – there are office jobs that look like The Office, and then there are workplaces like Nickelodeon, which has slime stairs, a SpongeBob wall,...

Rocko's Modern Life Movie Gets a Title, Brings Back Original Cast
Carlos Alazraqui in Rocko's Modern Life (1993)
Rocko, Heffer, Filburt, and yes, Spunky the dog, along with the rest of O-Town are headed back to Nickelodeon for the long-awaited Rocko's Modern Life revival next year. More than twenty years after it first went off the air, one of the most fondly remembered shows of Nickelodeon's golden age is coming back for a special TV movie. The good news? The entire original cast is set to return for the special, which has been given an official title as well.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Nickelodeon has officially titled the upcoming one-hour TV special, Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling. Joe Murray, who created the original series, is on board to write and executive produce the special for the network, which is another very important piece of the puzzle for fans. Here's the synopsis for Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling. And yes, Rock and the gang have been in outer space for more than two decades.

"[Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling] brings the characters back to Earth after being lost in outer space since 1996. Rocko has trouble accepting this 21st century modern life, while Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media and the endless diversity of food trucks. Rocko whole-heartedly believes that his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world."

Interesting approach. It seems that they are aware that the audience who used to watch the show has grown up and, as such, they are taking a bit of a social commentary approach. More importantly than that, all of the voice actors who made Rocko's Modern Life what it was are going to reprise their roles for the show. Carlos Alazraqui is back primarily as Rocko, but also Spunky and Leon. Tom Kenny, the man behind Spongebob, is back as Heffer, in addition to Chuck and Really Really Big Man. Other cast members include Mr. Lawrence as Filburt Turtle, Charlie Adler as Ed and Bev Bighead, Linda Wallem as Aunt Gretchen and Dr. Hutchinson, Jill Talley as Nosey, and Joe Murray as Ralph. Two new cast members in the form of Steve Little (Adventure Time) and Cosmo Segurson have also come on board.

This is not the only Nicktoons revival that the network currently has in production. Nickelodeon is also going to be airing Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie later this year, as well as an Invader Zim revival next year. 90s nostalgia is not something Nickelodeon is willing to ignore at this point.

Rocko's Modern Life aired for a total of four seasons from 1993 to 1996 with a total of 52 episodes. The series, in the same vein of something like Ren and Stimpy, has some mature themes hidden within the framework of a kid-friendly TV series. Like the theory that Rocko works for a phone sex hotline, for example. We can only hope that Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling will bring in some of that same mature humor. Nickelodeon has yet to set a release date for the special yet, but we will be sure to keep you up to date as more information is made available.

Celebrity Campaigns Ignite Kickstarter Crowdfunding
Spike Lee
It looks like all of Spike Lee's noisy tub-thumping for his recent successful Kickstarter campaign was not only good for him and his new movie but for the site itself. 47% of his backers had never visited the site before reports the site's Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler and Charles Adler in a blog post entitled "The Truth About Spike Lee and Kickstarter" in which they defend celebrity crowdfunding campaigns. Lee and Zach Braff ignited controversy with their well-hyped Kickstarter fundraising at the same that their fans happily forked over the cash for them to make their movies. See the Kickstarter post below: Last week, “The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint” reached its funding goal thanks to more than 5,000 backers. While filmmakers like Steven Soderbergh cheered Spike Lee’s project, outlets like CNBC and Bloomberg accused him of abusing Kickstarter and taking money from other creators. As we’ve shown before here and here,...

“Who Is Kickstarter For?”: Crowdfunding Site’s Founders Go On The Offensive
A day after video surfaced of Zach Braff discussing why he loves Kickstarter and used it to finance his next project, the founders of the crowdfunding site posted a missive whose title asked a simple but controversial question: Who is Kickstarter for? Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler and Charles Adler note that their “mission is to help bring creative projects to life,” and they argue that goes for anyone. The trio deflected criticism aimed at their service — along with Braff and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas — saying that high-profile projects merely “bring new backers to other projects.” Agree or not, the trio is in spin-control mode amid the backlash as crowdsourcing continues to be the latest cyber-Wild West. Watch the lengthy Braff clip, extracted from Jason Cooper and Jay Armitage’s upcoming documentary feature Kickstarted, below: Related: Zach Braff’s ‘Wish I Was Here’ Kickstarter Hits $2 Million Goal In 3 Days ‘Veronica Mars...

Who Is Kickstarter for? Founders Address Backlash Against *Celebrity* Campaigns
In response to all the criticism Kickstarter has been on the receiving end of, or found itself in the middle of, in recent months, thanks to successful multi-million dollar celebrity campaigns, the founders of the online crowd-funding service - Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler, and Charles Adler - penned an open letter to address your concerns - some of you anyway - in a post titled Who Is Kickstarter For? My 2 cents on the whole thing, in brief, goes something like this: if there are fans willing to give money to these "celebrity campaigns" (for lack of a better term), then who am I to discourage them from doing so. All I can do is contribute to those campaigns that I'm attracted to and...

Kickstarter Founders Address Critics of Zach Braff, 'Veronica Mars' Projects
Kristen Bell in Veronica Mars (2004)
Should celebrities like Zach Braff be using Kickstarter? Braff thinks so. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, so does Kickstarter -- which also has much to gain from million dollar pledge funds. In a post on the crowd funding site, co-founders Yancey Strickler, Perry Chen and Charles Adler explain how projects like Braff's $2 million Wish I Was Here film and Rob Thomas' $5.7 million Veronica Mars movie can be good for everyone else. Their reasoning: Celebrity projects drive more people to contribute to other Kickstarter dreams. Kickstarter Co-Founder Yancey Strickler: 'We Don't Care About Money'
Charlie Adler
Kickstarter co-founder Yancey Strickler has developed a successful service devoted to raising money, but don't mistake him for a capitalist. "We don't care about money," Strickler told the Tuesday audience at TheGrill, TheWrap's annual media conference. Fans have now pledged more than $375 million through the crowdfunding site, but Strickler, Perry Chen and Charles Adler founded the company to empower creative people and support projects that otherwise would have gone unfunded. To underscore his disinterest in profiteering, Strickler noted a law signed by President Obama, one conceived in part for Kickstarter. It permits...

Should Filmmakers Be Financially Accountable To Their Kickstarter Supporters?
A recent NPR story, “When a Kickstarter Campaign Fails, Does Anyone Get Their Money Back?”, raised the issue of failed crowdfunding campaigns and financial restitution to supporters. It’s a relevant topic as Kickstarter is increasingly acting as a pre-sale, customer-financing platform for sundry consumer, tech, and design goods. iPod wristwatches, Raw-shooting cameras, tripods and remotes, aquariums — many projects, some from creators with manufacturing backgrounds and some without, are bypassing the angel investor round and raising start-up capital directly from their customers. And while these are creative projects, they’re different from the short films and features we highlight on our curated Kickstarter page. Folks donating to these projects are pre-buying the product itself and will be justifiably angry if it doesn’t arrive. As for a film… well, it’s hard to put a timeline on art. Some projects happen and some don’t. Maybe that $25 you sent to...

Trailer for Voice Acting Doc Will Have You Saying ‘I Know That Voice’
There’s something really satisfying and simultaneously surreal about seeing the person behind a cartoon voice in the flesh. It’s why Hank Azaria always gets asked to do all of his Simpsons voices whenever he does the late night circuit. It’s a serious profession undertaken by seriously talented people, but it’s one that’s been shifted to video games as a result of growing popularity and the continued use of movie stars to do animated voices. So it’s a triumph to see a documentary celebrating and exploring that craft. I Know That Voice features a long list of the best in the business. Billy West, Tom Kenny, Andrea Romano, John Di Maggio, June Foray, Charlie Adler, Carlos Alazraqui and Tara Strong are just a few of the people who lent their voice (and the rest of themselves) to the doc. Check out the trailer for yourself: Source: Aint It Cool...

Joshua Reviews Rocko’s Modern Life Season One DVD [Shout! Factory DVD Review]
There are various cornerstones of a person’s childhood. Be it singular moments such as the first day of school, or much broader entities like your first favorite album or the first time you see a movie in theaters, nothing quite impacts a child quite like the things that they do during their free time.

Some may spend it playing sports or practicing an instrument; others may be studying or reading. One thing that everyone has in common are their favorite childhood cartoons. And now, thanks to Shout! Factory, one of the ‘90s most interesting cult cartoon classics has just made its way onto DVD.

Shout has released the first season of the classic cartoon, Rocko’s Modern Life, and while the supplements may be nonexistent; the quality is more than there.

Rocko’s Modern Life began its run in 1993, and followed the story of a wallaby named Rocko, as...

Bonnie and Clyde vs Dracula and Forgetting a Key Fanged Character: A Movie Review
Director/writer: Timothy Friend.

When vampires start to become involved in the pulp world of the 30’s, with some good ol’ gangbuster action, there are only a few good choices producers can make to represent an era. Here, Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula provides the formula. In the solution, what the film delivers is an oddball mix of character development and weird science.

The idea seems sound. The gangster couple's exploits stirred the public imagination in a time that's been polarized as highly criminal. Certain gangsters ran amok. To include the undead implies that the influence of the mafia is indeed eternal. No matter how hard the law tries, they cannot be put down.

For most of the film, Bonnie (Tiffany Shepis) and Clyde (Trent Haaga) are simply hiding out from the law. In the shack they are in, they are slowly just learning about what's happening nearby. They don't...

DVD Review: Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron – The Complete Series
Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron is one of those cartoon series you can only love if you grew up watching it as a kid. Otherwise, the formulaic storytelling and lack of interesting characters just doesn’t make for an enjoyable time. The stories get so repetitive that even those who watched the series when it originally aired in 1993 will have a hard time watching more than a few episodes.

The series is released as a 5-Disc DVD set as part of the Hanna-Barbera Classic Collection. It features the voice talents of Barry Gordon as Razor, Charles Adler as Chance Furlong, Gary Owens as Commander Ulysses Feral and Tress MacNeille as Callie Briggs. Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Gnomeo & Juliet, The Super Hero Squad Show), Mark Hamill (Batman: Arkham City), Candi Milo (Planet Sheen) and Lori Alan (90210, Family Guy) also perform guest roles.

The story revolves around two cats, Chance Furlong and Jake Clawson,...
