Emmy award-winning producer Joe Aguilar (Steven Spielberg Presents Taken) has served as a senior executive and key producer at DreamWorks since the company's inception. Recently, Aguilar was named to the dual position of chief creative officer and head of production, features, and television at Oriental DreamWorks. Established in 2012, Oriental DreamWorks creates high-quality entertainment, including CG animated feature films and television series for audiences around the world. With the ambition to become a China-based family branded company, Oriental DreamWorks creates entertainment in China for China and for export to the rest of the world.
For DreamWorks Animation, Aguilar most recently served as the producer on the 2011 blockbuster film Puss in Boots, which was honored with both Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominations for Best Animated Feature Film. Aguilar was integral to the formation of DreamWorks Animation's strategic alliance with Technicolor in 2008, which led to the formation of the DreamWorks Dedicated Unit (DDU), the Company's production home in Bangalore, India. Aguilar has been responsible for leading the recruitment, training and development of top-tier animation talent to the DDU facility in India. As a result of his efforts, DreamWorks Animation has successfully tapped into and further developed the talent base in India such that high-quality, feature-level CG animation is now completed at the DDU.
Aguilar began his career with the studio as Head of Production for DreamWorks Television, where he oversaw the production of such shows as the Judd Apatow comedy Undeclared, the Steven Spielberg drama The Others, the popular sitcom Freaks & Geeks, the Peter Mehlman comedy series, It's Like, You Know, and the hit sitcom Spin City. Aguilar served as co-executive producer on the Emmy award-winning Sci-Fi Channel mini-series, Steven Spielberg Presents Taken, the computer-animated comedy Father of the Pride, as well as the holiday television special Merry Madagascar.
Prior to joining DreamWorks Television, Aguilar served as a production executive at 20th Century Fox, where he oversaw such feature films as: Courage Under Fire, The Great White Hype, Girl 6 and A Walk in the Clouds.
