Sneak Peek "Tabloid"
Sneak Peek the newsprint-styled poster supporting the documentary feature film "Tabloid", produced by Julie Bilson Ahlberg, Mark Lipson and directed by Oscar winner Errol Morris ("The Fog Of War") :

"...'Tabloid' follows the much stranger-than-fiction adventures of 'Joyce McKinney', a former beauty queen whose single-minded devotion to the man of her dreams leads her across the globe and directly onto the front pages of the British tabloid newspapers. Joyce's crusade takes her through a surreal world of gunpoint abduction, manacled Mormons, oddball accomplices, magic underwear and dreams of celestial unions..."

"'Tabloid' is a return to my favorite genre," said Morris, "sick, sad and funny, but, of course, it’s more than that. It is a meditation on how we are shaped by the media and even more powerfully, by ourselves. Joyce is a woman profoundly influenced by her dreams and, in a sense, she was living...

Interview With Errol Morris On Tabloid
Interview With Errol Morris On Tabloid

Academy Award-winning director Errol Morris is currently on the festival circuit with his new film Tabloid, about a former Ms. Wyoming who may or may not have kidnapped a Mormon missionary, chained him up in a 'love cottage' for three days and raped him. At least that is one version of the story out of many. What I do know is that I couldn't be more excited about Tabloid. Recently, Mr. Morris sat down with me at Hotel Huntington in San Francisco and let me pick his brain about the project. His long time collaborator and producer of the film, Julie Bilson Ahlberg, was also in attendance. Check it out below.

Sundance Selects to Distribute Errol Morris’ Tabloid
Sundance Selects has picked up North American distribution rights to Oscar-winner Errol Morris' (The Fog of War) latest documentary, Tabloid. The follow up to 2008's Standard Operating Procedure, Tabloid centers on "The Case of the Manacled Mormon" in which a former Miss Wyoming flew to England in 1977 in hopes of saving the love of her life from a cult. In the press release, Morris describes the film as such: “It's a return to my favorite genre – sick, sad and funny – but of course, it’s more than that. It is a meditation on how we are shaped by the media and even more powerfully, by ourselves." To check out the full press release, which includes a little more from Morris, hit the jump. Sundance plans to screen the film at "key film festivals" prior to releasing Tabloid to theaters and their on-demand platform later this summer. Here's the press release: New York,...

Oscars 2009: Predictions for Best Documentary Film
  • Sounds a little premature to be speaking about it this early in the game, but what's more fun than predicting and prognosticating some of the choice offerings that we'll be seeing at the next Oscar ceremonies. There are less than 10 months to go before the next round of noms and plenty of film offerings ahead will easily change all this speculating below. Today we begin with what I think will be the Best Non-Fiction nominations for 08’. Always a tough nut to crack – simply put, the Academy are predictable in selecting some obscure choices, this in part due to the voters whose agenda relates more to what a 60+ year old might consider of value. This year we should see some clearer, more popular choices that are part of broader critical consensus. Stay tuned for tomorrow's next Oscar category. Best Documentary Predictions: Four Noms: American Teen (Paramount Vantage) Nanette Burstein, Eli Gonda,

Today, we have the tentative title - S.O.P. - which is a military acronym for Standard Operating Procedure”. Morris had this to say about his upcoming venture - "I feel this is one of the most significant films I have ever worked on," said Morris. "There is a mystery about the war in Iraq. Not just how and why it started, but what it is ultimately about. It is a mystery that I am trying to investigate.” The film will examine the unintended consequences of the Iraqi war with a focus on events at Abu Ghraib prison, notorious for the shocking photos which began to appear in global media in 2004.
