The National Legal and Policy Center is proposing the appointment of an independent chair at Comcast to reduce Brian Roberts’ influence at the media giant.
“One person occupying both the Chair and CEO roles at the same time infuses that leader with an inordinate amount of insufficiently checked power,” the conservative-leaning lobbying firm wrote in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. “Shareholders should vote to separate the Chair and CEO positions to restore accountability to the C-Suite, and appropriate oversight responsibilities to a stronger, more accountable Board of Directors.”
Additionally, Nlpc is asking Comcast shareholders to vote against the company’s slate of board nominees at its annual meeting on June 18.
The proposal comes as President Donald Trump has publicly lashed out at Roberts, calling for him to be investigated after NBC News White House reporter Peter Alexander asked about the Pentagon’s decision...

Donald Trump lashed out again over reporters’ inquiries on what has been a controversial topic: Qatar’s gift of a $400 million jet to be used as Air Force One.
ABC News first reported last week of plans by the administration to accept the gift, and that it will be later transferred to Trump’s presidential library after he leaves office.
In the Oval Office to meet with South African Cyril Ramaphosa, Trump grew irate when NBC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Peter Alexander asked about the jet gift.
“You know, you ought to get out of here. What does this have to do with the Qatari jet? They are giving the United States Air Force a jet, Ok? And it’s a great thing. We’re talking about a lot of other things, and it is NBC trying to get off the subject of what you just saw. You are a terrible reporter.

Andrea Mitchell anchored her final edition of MSNBC’s long-running Andrea Mitchell Reports, with staffers and colleagues past and present entering the studio to give her an ovation as she wrapped up the show.
Mitchell’s show has been on the network since 2008. She announced in October that she would be stepping down from the program, but would remain at NBC News as chief Washington correspondent and chief foreign affairs correspondent.

After mourning the loss of victims in an air collision in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump pivoted quickly to placing the blame.
He quickly claimed that he had elevated safety standards during his first term in office only to have Joe Biden lower them, and then more directly blamed diversity, equity and inclusion programs, or Dei.
He also singled out former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, claiming that he has been using “a good line of bullsh*t” in leading the department, which oversees the Faa and hires air traffic controllers.
Yet in briefing with reporters Thursday at the White House, Trump said that “we do not know what led to this crash, but we have some strong opinions.”
“We don’t know,” Trump said later.
“The helicopter was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a tragedy occurred.”

“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. On Capitol Hill, Ryan Nobles will become chief Capitol Hill correspondent. He joined NBC News in 2022 and has reported on Congress, including the removal of Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the congressional hearings into Hunter Biden.

When “Today” starts up Monday morning, NBC executives and producers hope that it will look like any other broadcast of the long-running A.M. show.
Of course, it won’t. Yes, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin will greet viewers, no doubt, with the top news of the day. Yet while Melvin has been a regular presence on the program, Monday marks his first appearance in the co-anchor role previously held by Hoda Kotb. The expectation is that viewers won’t blink much of an eye.
“People kind of know and expect what we give them every day,” says Melvin, during an interview last week. “We would be silly to tinker with that too much.”
Melvin takes the role while “Today” is enjoying a new bout of momentum. To be sure, traditional audiences for most linear TV programs, including venerable, decades-old morning shows, are in secular decline, but “Today” has shown some interesting vigor.

The Christmas holiday is here, and Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, the prominent faces on the Today Show, have been on vacation with their families.
As Monsters and Critics has reported, Hoda will leave the Today show in January, and everyone has been reacting to the significant changes.
Still, Hoda and the other co-hosts enjoyed a lengthy break from anchoring the Today Show during the holiday week as others filled in for them on the show.
Dylan Dreyer and Peter Alexander have been mainstays on Today during Christmas week, giving everyone else a much-needed break.
One of Today’s regular contributors, Vicky Nguyen, was on the show for one of her financial pieces when a co-worker pointed out a funny wardrobe mishap she had.
During a recent segment and after a busy Christmas day, Vicky Nguyen was “outed” for something she missed due to the busyness of returning to work after the holiday.

During a recent episode of Today’s 3rd Hour, Al Roker initially appeared to be the only regular face available to host. However, he wouldn’t be alone. In fact, he ended up with two unexpected, if still familiar, co-hosts.
One Co-Host Was In Paris, A Few Others Had Off
Today is currently undergoing a few changes. Co-host Hoda Kotb is set to leave her role on the show after spending 17 years of the program.
Craig Melvin was recently announced as her replacement. However, work recently brought Melvin to Paris to see the re-opening of the famous Notre Dame Cathedral.
Al Roker – YouTube
In addition to Melvin being off in Paris, Roker noted that Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer had off. This made it seem like Al Roker would be the only person left to host the 3rd Hour.
However, he would soon join up with two co-hosts: Peter Alexander and Laura Jarrett.

The pair regularly appear on NBC as co-hosts of Today With Hoda & Jenna, an entertaining and informative program part of NBC’s weekday lineup with the Today Show.
Weeks ago, Hoda revealed she’d decided to leave the Today show after many years working for the morning show.
That makes each new episode extra special for Hoda, whether it’s a holiday celebration or one where she gets heartfelt comments from a guest celebrating her as a journalist and anchor.
For Halloween, she and Jenna chose to participate in the costumed fun again along with their Today co-stars.
And for their costumes, they chose a very famous pair from the classic blockbuster film Titanic.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: Michael Keaton’s character from the Tim Burton franchise was essentially summoned from across the TV talk-show landscape on Halloween with hosts on NBC’s Today show, the syndicated Live With Kelly and Mark and The Kelly Clarkson Show all dressing up as the ghost with the most.
On Thursday’s Today, Al Roker dressed up as Beetlejuice and Dylan Dreyer dressed as Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. And on Live With Kelly and Mark later Thursday morning, Kelly Ripa took on Deetz with Mark Consuelos sporting the Beetlejuice ensemble.
Kelly Clarkson also donned a Beetlejuice costume on her eponymous daytime talk show. She kicked off the show with a spooky Kellyoke of “Banana Boat (Day-o).”
While Beetlejuice made a number of apperances on Thursday, Consuelos and Ripa changed costumes multiple times throughout this year’s Only Murders in the Building-inspired “Only Halloween in the Building” Halloween show.

What’s remarkable about the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which starts Monday in Chicago, is how it has all the makings of a celebration, rather than a week of serious doubt.
That certainly wasn’t the case a month ago.
Then, as Donald Trump wrapped up the final night of the Republican National Convention with a long-winded speech that detailed the assassination attempt on his life just days earlier, the conventional wisdom was that it was his race to lose.
The GOP was looking not just at a Trump victory in November, but an overwhelming one. Democrats were fretting over the possibility that a steadfast Joe Biden would remain on the ticket, and the story of their Windy City would be all about a lack of enthusiasm.

Update: At his nearly hourlong press conference, Joe Biden countered perceptions of cognitive decline by delving into the details of complex national security situations. He insisted that he would “keep moving” in the presidential race, although he slightly opened the door to an exit if he sees that there’s “no way” he can win. And he raised his voice at one point in addressing gun violence, a contrast to the weak raspy pitch at his disastrous debate with Donald Trump.
But minutes after the president finished, the Democratic lawmaker calls for him to exit the race, with Rep. Jim Himes (D-ct) the latest.
“It’s not really about tonight,” Himes told MSNBC host Alex Wagner. “And one of the really kind of sick aspects of this moment is that we are watching every speech, every rally, every debate and saying, ‘How did he do today?’ And that’s just...

Rep. Byron Donalds called for the Supreme Court to intervene and overturn Donald Trump’s conviction for falsifying business records related to his hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Daniels’ comments echo those made by House Speaker Mike Johnson, who told Fox News the day after Trump’s conviction, “I do believe the Supreme Court should step in. Obviously, this is totally unprecedented.” According to a Politico report, Trump called Johnson soon after he was convicted and told the speaker, “We have to overturn this,” in an f-bomb laden rant.

The chants and shouts of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the entry to the Washington Hilton for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but once inside, attendees were greeted with what has become the usual scene: Celebrities on the red carpet, a crush for the security line and glitterati packed into a cavernous ballroom.
“I want to thank my wife for enduring lots of jokes and for agreeing to individually meet everyone in this room right after the ceremony,” the evening’s featured entertainer, Colin Jost, quipped about Scarlett Johansson, who posed for photos with a non-stop stream of attendees. She continued to do so later in the evening, at the Comcast-nbcu after party at the French ambassador’s residence.

Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and other music stars served as major sources of inspiration behind the Halloween costumes displayed on morning and daytime talk shows this year.
Three shows featured hosts dressing up as Swift, with Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, Live‘s Kelly Ripa and The Talk‘s Amanda Kloots all dressing as the superstar singer-songwriter, with the latter two also passing out friendship bracelets in an ode to Swift’s hit Eras tour.
Live With Kelly and Mark took the Swift inspiration one step further, dubbing their annual Halloween extravaganza The Eras Show as they looked back through different decades of pop culture and of Live‘s own onscreen Halloween celebrations. NBC News may trump its rivals when it comes to interviewing a certain former Commander-in-Chief.
David Muir, Lesley Stahl, John Dickerson, Chris Wallace, Bill O’Reilly, Kaitlan Collins and Jim Acosta have all tried their hand at interviewing Donald Trump; lobbing questions at him; or moderating a debate or event in which his participation was key. Some have drawn blood and others have been bloodied (and some others left agog as Trump walked out unexpectedly). But anchors and reporters working for NBC News seem to have the most success at keeping him in line while trying to elicit big news out of him.
Kristen Welker has the next turn at bat. She has pre-taped an interview with Trump that is one of the main features of her first broadcast at the helm of NBC News’ “Meet The Press.” The NBCUniversal-backed outlet has already revealed that Trump told her he was...

When Peter Alexander opens Saturday’s broadcast of “Today,” he will find himself opposite a new host — and a potential sparring partner.
Laura Jarrett, a relatively new arrival to NBC News, is taking over as his co-anchor on the weekend edition of the long-running morning program now that Kristen Welker is moving to host “Meet The Press.” As Alexander discovered during a rehearsal session on Thursday, he will have to be prepared.
“She is smart as heck, which is not a surprise, but she is going to throw stuff back at me, as we found out at rehearsal,” Alexander quipped. “I have got to be ready.”
By pairing Jarrett, who was recently named to helm the justice beat at NBC News, with Alexander, its chief White House correspondent, NBC is no doubt keeping its corporate eye on a critical moment. The run-up to the 2024 election will demand familiarity not only with Washington,...

Kristen Welker’s tenure at NBC News’ venerable “Meet The Press” won’t start until September 17, but the network isn’t waiting to tell viewers about it.
On Saturday, during the NBC News journalist’s last time co-anchoring the Saturday broadcast of “Today” with Peter Alexander, those who tune in will see a new promo alerting them to Welker’s imminent move. The video vignette displays Welker moments from across her recent career: in the White House briefing room covering three presidents; on the campaign trail; and moderating one of the 2020 presidential debates. The promo will also feature footage from Welker’s fill-in appearances at the “Meet the Press” desk.
When Welker takes the reins of the program from Chuck Todd, she will become the series’ 13th moderator, but just the first Black journalist to moderate the show, and just the second woman. In an interview earlier this week with Wtmj,...

He did that by sending over an espresso machine, according to NBC’s Peter Alexander. It came with a note, which appears to have been written on a typewriter.
