Trust “Severance” fans to leave no stone unturned.
Ahead of Season 2, Episode 9, “The After Hours,” eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the latest installment of Dan Erickson’s Apple TV+ thriller shares its name with a chapter of “The Twilight Zone” from 1960. TV episodes have the same names all the time, not least due to their sheer volume in existence and common phrases that repeat (Season 1’s “Hide and Seek” shares its title with episodes from “Adventure Time” and “Bluey”) — but something as integral to sci-fi television as “The Twilight Zone” merits further exploration.
“The Twilight Zone” Season 1, Episode 34 stars Anne Francis as Marsha White, a woman searching a department store for a gold thimble when she starts to experience eerie things on its ninth floor. The entire area is deserted and empty of merchandise, except for exactly what she needs. The woman who helps her turns out to be be a mannequin.

Go ahead and take the elevator back up if you haven't watched season 2, episode 9 of "Severance," titled "The After Hours." There are spoilers down here on the severed floor!
"Severance" never does anything by accident. Everything from the show's musical cues to the props scattered across both the severed floor at Lumon — where our merry band of "innies" toil away as macrodata refiners, unaware of the real world inhabited by their "outies" — to the items we see in the homes of various characters has some sort of importance. Think of the "rabbit or duck" sculpture visible in severed floor manager Seth Milchick's (Trammell Tillman) office, or all of the Eagan-related trinkets Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette) found in her childhood home in the prior episode, "Sweet Vitriol." This is all to say that the ninth episode of season 2 of Dan Erickson's nightmarish workplace drama "Severance" is titled "The After Hours,...

Famous actors often get their real-life children cast to play their character's children on TV, creating a real-life family dynamic onscreen. The children of actors like Dominic West and Tim Allen made their acting debuts alongside their famous fathers on TV. Parent-child acting duos like the Lowes, DeVitos, and Levys developed their own TV series and cast themselves as parent and child characters.
Many actors have starred alongside their own family members onscreen, and in some instances, their real-life children even play their character's children on TV. The Santa-verse is getting bigger. Season two of The Santa Clauses may have surpassed expectations with a season of inventive new story arcs. In the new season of the Tim Allen-led Disney+ comedy, we’ve already seen an expansion of the mythology behind our favorite gift-giving fella, and the addition of several new characters is a hoot. That includes Magnus Antas or Mad Santa, played to hilarious ends by Eric Stonestreet (known for Modern Family).
But for Allen, one of the greatest joys of continuing the story of Scott Calvin a.k.a. Santa Claus is working alongside his daughter Elizabeth Allen-Dick, who plays Calvin’s daughter Sandra on the hit show. With several episodes left to air before season two bows out, father and daughter took time to speak with MovieWeb about working together and the biggest appeal this season. Dive in.

Earlier, Leguizamo told a reporter that he “definitely” would be hitting the campaign trail for Joe Biden in 2024.
Asked about Biden’s outreach to Latino voters, Leguizamo said, “I think he’s doing the right things, which is getting Latin consulatns and talking to Latin experts who tell him how to address us, and make the effort. This is as sexy as Hollywood pix got in 1960. John O'Hara's novel about class snobbery and the drive for success posits Paul Newman as a moody go-getter. Archivist and activist Carl Malamud once likened state and federal cases as the source code to America's operating system. Unfortunately, many legal documents remain hidden from public inspection. One example comes from a lawsuit filed this past July by DirecTV against Al Jazeera America. The complaint was submitted with heavy redaction. If there was an award given to the year's most extreme blacking out of so-called "secrets," the parties involved in this dispute would surely deserve to beat any spy agency for this one. Earlier this week, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White stood up to

Ivor Novello last film: 'Autumn Crocus' (photo: Ivor Novello and Fay Compton in 'Autumn Crocus') Can a plain looking, naive spinster school teacher ever find real love in faraway places? This was a question asked by Shirley Booth in Arthur Laurents' 1952 stage play The Time of the Cuckoo; Katharine Hepburn in the 1955 David Lean-directed film version, Summertime (1955); and Elizabeth Allen in the 1965 Richard Rodgers-Steven Sondheim musical adaptation, Do I Hear a Waltz? Can such a woman's yearning for romance ever be satisfied? "Yes" and "No," according to Basil Dean's fine 1934 British film Autumn Crocus, which marked the last film appearance of British stage and screen superstar Ivor Novello (Alfred Hitchcok's The Lodger). A major curiosity is the 1988 made-for-tv version of A Man for All Seasons, with Charlton Heston in the Oscar-winning Paul Scofield role (Sir Thomas More) and on Fred Zinnemann’s director’s chair. Vanessa Redgrave, who plays Thomas More’s wife in the TV movie (Wendy Hiller in the original) had a cameo as Anne Boleyn in the 1966 film. Back in April, members of the cast of Happy Days, including Marion Ross, Erin Moran, Don Most, Anson Williams, and the estate of the late Tom Bosley, filed a lawsuit against CBS, claiming that the network violated breach of contract and owed them for merchandising revenues that they had been cut out of. The $10 million suit claimed the stars of the sitcom “were guaranteed five percent of royalties profits if their images appeared on a product.”
CNN.com reported yesterday that the fraud claim was thrown out by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White, who ruled in favor of CBS.

Happy Days Stars Lose Fraud Fight Against TV Bosses
A judge in California has thrown out a claim from Happy Days cast members who allege TV bosses committed fraud by failing to pay them for merchandising sales.
A number of the sitcom's stars, including Marion Ross, Anson Williams, Don Most, and Erin Moran, filed a $10 million (£6.3 million) lawsuit earlier this year, claiming CBS chiefs owed them money from sales of Happy Days-themed merchandise which features their images.
They were subsequently handed cheques with values ranging from $6,000 (£3,750) to $6,500 (£4,063), but vowed to press ahead with their case.
The group suffered a setback on Wednesday when Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White ruled in favour of CBS on the fraud claim.
The case will now proceed only with a breach of contract suit and the actors cannot receive punitive damages at the 2012 trial, according to CNN.
The group's lawyer, Jon Pfeiffer, says, "We intend to press forward with the lawsuit. If we can't punish the defendants, we certainly intend to expose their practices."
The series ran between 1974 and 1984.

Los Angeles, California (X17online) -- Former Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan will only get one season's lost wages for the show, a judge ruled Monday. The judge in Sheridan's lawsuit against ABC and executive producer Marc Cherry ruled that if Sheridan wins an upcoming jury trial, she will get only season six's lost wages from the show instead of that season plus two more. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White urged the parties to come to a settlement, saying, "You're going to spend a lot of money on this case." Sheridan originally sued for $20 million, saying she was slapped in the face by Cherry and then written off the show. The actress then dropped claims of emotional abuse and later, the judge tossed her claims of sexual harassment and assault. Now, the lawsuit is over wrongful termination. Judge White said Sheridan's role on the show beyond the...

Nicollette Sheridan hit another setback in her lawsuit against ABC and "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry, the Associated Press reports. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White limited the actress' potential damages from the claim, ruling that she could only receive one season's earnings if she wins the suit, rather than two seasons or more, which her attorney had argued for. The ruling effectively limits Sheridan's potential win from the case to the $980,000 that she would have earned on Season 6 of "Housewives," had her character, Edie Britt, not been...

The 47-year-old actress – who is suing for wrongful termination and gender discrimination – has been urged by Judge Elizabeth Allen White to settle the case before it goes to trial in October.
The judge warned: "You're going to spend a lot of money on this case."
During a hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday (29.08.11), Nicollette's lawyer Patrick Maloney called for jurors to be allowed to consider whether the star was entitled to wages for at least two extra seasons.
However, the judge ruled she could only seek damages for one year's pay, approximately $980,000 after declaring the show's producers had discretion to write out Nicollette's character Edie Britt when they saw fit to do so.
In yesterday's hearing, the judge – who has already thrown out her harassment claims against show creator and executive producer Marc Cherry – ruled the actress cannot make reference to the programme chief's alleged rude behaviour towards others during the trial.

Sheridan Urged To Settle Housewives Lawsuit
A Los Angeles judge has urged Nicollette Sheridan to settle her lawsuit for wrongful termination from Desperate Housewives after ruling the actress will only be entitled to limited damages if she wins a court battle.
The star filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against show creator Marc Cherry last year, alleging he slapped her in the face after she expressed an opinion about a script he had written, and then fired her when she complained to producers.
Sheridan, who played sexy real estate dealer Edie Britt in the series, later amended the suit but still sought damages for wrongful termination and gender discrimination.
During a hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, her attorney Patrick Maloney called for jurors to be allowed to consider whether Sheridan was entitled to wages for at least two extra seasons, but Judge Elizabeth Allen White ruled that the star could only seek damages for one year's pay, which would total approximately $980,000 (£612,500), according to the Associated Press.
Judge White declared the show's producers had discretion to eliminate Sheridan's character and called for the star's legal team to settle the case ahead of a trial, scheduled to begin in October.

Easy A (15)
(Will Gluck, 2010, Us) Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Patricia Clarkson. 92 mins
There's always room for a smart-mouthed high-school comedy in a Juno/Mean Girls vein – it's just a pity they come along so rarely. This doesn't quite make that grade but it aims for it, tackling issues of virginity and sluttishness through the story of a nice girl who lies about who she's laid and suffers the fallout – especially from the Jesus freaks.
Carlos (15)
(Olivier Assayas, 2010, Fra/Ger) Edgar Ramírez, Alexander Scheer. 159 mins/334 mins
The life of the terrorist serves as a thrilling survey of cold war-era geopolitics in Assayas's swift, stylish, serious biopic, which covers a staggering amount of ground. See feature, p10.
Red (12A)
(Robert Schwentke, 2010, Us) Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren. 111 mins
Senior-citizen assassin comedy that gets away with a lot thanks to its cast. As a ride, it's more stairmaster than a rollercoaster.

The judge presiding over former "Desperate Housewives" star Nicollette Sheridan's lawsuit against series creator Marc Cherry and ABC may have made a decision benefiting the actress. Reuters reports that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White rejected ABC's complaint that one of the causes of action mentioned in the suit is nebulous. The network attempted to get one of the accusations thrown out because it involves three claims: discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation and age. In response, Judge White wrote in a tentative order: "Although annoying, inconvenient and inconsiderate, the failure to separate the three distinct wrongs does not result in an inability to understand what is alleged." Sheridan played Edie Britt on "Desperate Housewives" from 2004 through 2009 before her character was killed off. In the $20 million lawsuit, Sheridan is suing for wrongful termination, and assault and battery, among other claims. The suit, filed in April, now moves toward the discovery phase.

Sheridan Allowed To Proceed With Cherry Lawsuit
A judge has granted Nicollette Sheridan permission to proceed with a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.
The actress, who played Edie Britt on the hit show, filed suit against Cherry in April, claiming he slapped her in the face after she expressed an opinion about a script he had written, and then fired her when she complained to producers.
Cherry's lawyers attempted to block the case from going forward but Judge Elizabeth Allen White has decided to allow Sheridan to sue, according to gossip blogger Perez Hilton.
The star is demanding more than $20 million (£13.3 million) for assault and battery, gender violence and wrongful termination.
