The wait is almost over for fans of The Chosen to welcome the next chapter of the Biblical drama into their homes. This Sunday, June 15, the first two episodes of the production’s fifth season are set for an arrival on Prime Video. Some may have already had the pleasure of seeing the entire fifth season play out on the big screen during its cinematic release earlier this year, but for the rest, the next few weeks will mark a pilgrimage where audiences will travel alongside Jonathan Roumie’s Jesus on his way towards his crucifixion. Today, Collider is excited to share a glimpse of an upcoming episode that showcases the tenderness and humor that the religious leader has for his followers.
In the sneak peek, the stage is almost set for what will serve as Jesus’ (Roumie) final meal with his companions — known around the world as The Last Supper.

He has spoken. The Chosen creator, Dallas Jenkins, has once again opened up with some fresh updates about the highly-anticipated sixth season of the biblical series and, this time, it’s actually good news. We’ve known for a while that the next set of episodes won’t be arriving anytime soon, but with Season 5 set to arrive on Prime Video on June 15, following a financially profitable run in cinemas, fans at least have something to look forward to. Although no release date has been set for Season 6, Jenkins revealed during a livestream (via ScreenRant), that audiences can look forward to longer episodes.
Keeping his cards close to his chest, the show’s creator, director, and co-scribe teased the sixth season's impending arrival, sharing, “Season 6, the first six episodes, are going to be coming out sometime next year,” before backtracking, “It won’t be early next year.” Walking a fine...

Everyone knows sliced bread is the best thing to happen since Betty White. The iconic television star gained massive acclaim and fame with her role in The Golden Girls, and she filled her later acting career with countless cameos. Her inimitable presence brought immense charm and humor to any show.
One such cameo happened in 2004 when she appeared in Malcolm in the Middle. As expected from Betty White, the character oozes a mix of passion, wit, and talent. She shines brighter than everyone whenever she appears, and her appeal is as much her star power as her talent. To be more precise, Betty White pops up as Sylvia in the twentieth episode of Season 5, “Victor’s Other Family.” The episode debuted on May 9, 2004, and marked the series’ 105th entry.

"The hacker will save the world." Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a film called The Crash, about a stock market crash in the "near future". Described as a "fast-paced, save-the-world thriller" about a stock market criminal who is secretly hired by the government to run a "shadow" stock market in order to keep the economy stable. This has an oddly impressive ensemble cast: Dianna Agron, Minnie Driver, Frank Grillo, John Leguizamo, Maggie Q, AnnaSophia Robb, Mary McCormack, Ed Westwick, Andrew James Allen and Christopher McDonald. As interesting as this may look, it actually seems to be some seriously absurd stock market propaganda, about how important the stock market is to the stability of the country. Truth is, it is bad, we'd be better off without it. But they don't want you to think about that. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Aram Rappaport's The Crash, direct from...

Director: Michael J. Gallagher. Review: Adam Wing. Stop me if you've heard this one. We open in a suburban household, where a hot babysitter is having a conversation with the girl she's looking after. The young damsel is on the internet, chatting to strangers online. They talk about the dangers of chat rooms and the pitfalls of cyber-stalking. The young girl tries to scare the hot babysitter with a myth about a masked man who preys on unsuspecting users. After a few obligatory ass shots, the babysitter is butchered to death by a monster called Smiley, so called because he stitched his own eyes shut before carving his mouth into a smile. Nice. Then we cut to the opening titles. With Smiley, director Michael J. Gallagher isn't interested in bringing anything new to the table. He takes an attractive theme, both intriguing and current, and largely ignores it in favour...

We return with the latest edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes release details for A Resurrection, the first teaser trailer for Ten, a review of Smiley, and much more:
First Teaser Trailer for Ten: “Ten is a collectivist, post-exploitation psychological thriller devised as a possible explanation for the events of the 1972 Spektor Island Massacre. On a cold December afternoon, ten women arrive at a mansion on Spektor Island, famed for years of reported hauntings and strange activities. Will they live through the night?
The all-female cast film is a response to exploitation, slasher, and thriller films, with particular focus on the kind of storytelling prominent in b-movies and genre films from the 1950s to the 1980s. It explores the meaning and fluidity of identity and takes a number of surprising turns, paying homage to filmmakers and producers such as Alfred Hitchcock,...

*a few minor spoilers are here. Director: Duane Journey. Writer: David Tillman. Cast: Lara Flynn Boyle, Michael Welch, Molly Quinn, and Cary Elwes. It is often interesting to see how a film markets itself. Hansel & Gretel Gets Baked makes note of producer Mark Morgan's attachment to the Twilight series of films. His name is mentioned instead of the cast as seen left. However, Hansel & Gretel Gets Baked is not really for the Twilight crowd. There are no glittery vampires here, nor werewolf lovers. Instead, there is almost an equal amount of both comedy and horror. Jokes abound and so does the gore. Meanwhile, actress Lara Flynn Boyle anchors the film expertly with her character, the notorious witch of German fairytales. All of the performances are solid, but this film will be remembered for its hilarity and light-hearted mood. Gretel (Molly C. Quinn) likes her weed and so does her stoner boyfriend,...

Shawn Dawnson Talks Smiley, available this week on DVD
Evil wears a smile in director Michael J. Gallagher's Smiley, which arrives on DVD this week. After learning of an urban legend in which a demented serial killer named Smiley can be summoned through the Internet, mentally fragile Ashley must decide whether she is losing her mind or becoming Smiley's next victim.
We recently caught up with one of the stars of the film, Shane Dawson, who has amassed a huge fanbase online for his hilarious Youtube videos. Smiley serves as the actor's first feature role, and a dramatic departure from the comedy skits he's known for.
Soon to be a major force in entertainment and a household name before the end of the decade (you may not know him yet, but your kids sure do), we sat down with Shane to find out more about the movie, and his involvement in it.

As TV thrillers go, this was one of the more tense Criminal Minds episodes. As usual, I found myself conflicted between the great writing and the horrific subject matter, especially as the latter involved children.
Tonight's UnSubs in "The Wheels on the Bus" were a pair of brothers who, after being kicked off of a gaming site, decided to create their own version of the online video game entitled "Gods of Conflict" by playing it out in real life, using high school students as their game pieces, and real guns as their weaponry.
The gameplay around the first confrontation seemed uneven: one player merely had to open a box with a key, take out a gun and shoot the other player, whereas the other had to assemble a gun before he could even get in the game. I couldn't buy the fact that the girl remained functional after killing her classmate,...

Prepare for the high of your life! And no, this has nothing to do with that Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters movie! This is something completely different. And hilarious by the way! Described as a horror-comedy (apparently that shit really exists), Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch comes from director Duane Journey and is actually some kind of a crazy spin on the classic German fairy tale. Today we have some cool images, poster and the first trailer for the whole thing, hope you’ll like it!
Some say the story is completely crazy, but I say that’s quite logical thing when you have one weird witch who uses pot instead of candy to lure teenagers into her home!
So, as I mentioned, Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch is a contemporary spin on the classic German fairy tale Hansel & Gretel about a brother and sister who battle a witch...

The new studio Synchronicity will make a splash at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California this week with new projects Cooties, Due Process, and Smiley.
Smiley already has a distribution deal in place through AMC theaters in a limited number of markets. It seems Synchronicity is seeking to expand off of that platform release.
Cooties stars Elijah Wood and centers on an elementary school that becomes infected with a bizarre virus, turning the innocent children into savage, feral creatures. Steven Schneider is producing with Ace Norton set to direct.
Due Process comes from director Paul Currie, who is working from a script by Anthony Derrico. The story revolves around two bankers who set out to foreclose on a rural farm. Mark Holder, Christine Holder, and Mark Williams are producing, with shooting scheduled to begin in January.
Cooties comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Elijah Wood.

Title: Smiley Director: Michael Gallagher Starring: Caitlin Gerard, Melanie Papalia, Shane Dawson, Toby Turner, Andrew James Allen, Roger Bart, Keith David, Liza Weil A thunderously stupid horror movie of slapdash construction and ping-pong tonalities, “Smiley” builds its narrative around the notion of a viral video serial killer who’s summoned by way of a specific web chat incantation. Impressive only for its ability to chase unlikeliness and viewer frustration down an ever-increasing rabbit hole of bewilderment, director Michael Gallagher’s motivation-free genre exercise is populated with characters who, when not busy exhibiting the decision-making and inner emotional landscapes of 12-year-olds, are pantomiming the same age group’s mindset of adults and scariness — all [ Read More ]

Chicago – What if all the evil on the internet manifested itself into a supernatural being with the power to kill a la Candyman? Such is the relatively clever premise of “Smiley,” opening in limited release this week. It’s a modest, low-budget horror movie with some effective ideas and an engaging lead performance but it clutters itself down with too much dialogue about its title character and the very concept of evil being potentially brought to physical life. Every time that it feels like “Smiley” could become something interesting, it falls back into clichés. It’s a film about the next generation of horror villains that owes too much to the older ones.
The premise has a solid hook. People who spend way too much time online form a community around a Chatroulette service. Anonymity is a requirement for these people even though they get together and party. Videos...

There are plenty of great horror movie slashers that you know by name: Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Victor Crowley, Cropsey, Leslie Vernon. While certainly all different in appearance, they share two key commonalities: a) they all kill teenagers, and, more importantly, b) they each have a backstory. Some are chilling, some are tragic, but each of those killers has a distinct and compelling reason for doing what they do.
This is where Smiley falls short.
Sort of like a Candyman for the cyber generation, Smiley is the story of Ashley (Caitlin Gerard), a sweet, naïve girl who heads off to college after the untimely death of her mother. She moves into a house with slutty party gal Proxy (Melanie Papalia), who of...

Well take a look at that. I’m not familiar with Michael Gallagher’s YouTube work, but this image from his new movie Smiley does more than enough to pique my interest. The plot doesn’t exactly sound that original, but quality always lies in the execution. It’s fascinating how Internet stars are increasingly crossing over to work in the “legitimate” filmmaking world. Stuff like Smiley is likely a harbinger of what we can expect for the future of movie making.
AMC Theatres® and Fever Productions today announced an exclusive partnership on the national theatrical release of the highly anticipated horror/thriller film Smiley from director Michael Gallagher (Totally Sketch.). Beginning Oct. 12, AMC will exclusively release the film theatrically through its AMC independent platform on 28 screens in 14 markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston and Atlanta. The release will also be supported by a marketing campaign from AMC.
