‘Gregory Peck of India’ Dev Anand’s Centenary to be Celebrated With Restored Classics Theatrical Release (Exclusive)

The birth centenary of Indian cinema icon Dev Anand will be celebrated with restored versions of some of his classics receiving a theatrical release across the country.

Known as one of the triumvirate of superstars who ruled Hindi-language cinema in the 1950s and ’60s (along with the late Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar) Anand made such hits as “Guide,” “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” and “Prem Pujari.”

The birth centenary of Anand, who died in 2011, is on Sept. 26. On Sept. 24 and 25, the “Dev Anand@100 – Forever Young” festival will screen four of his classic films at 55 PVR Inox cinemas across 30 Indian cities including Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Chennai, Bangalore, Lucknow, Kolkata, Guwahati, Indore, Jaipur, Nagpur, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Gwalior, Rourkela, Raipur, Noida, Kochi, Aurangabad, Vadodara, Surat and Mohali.

Dev Anand's grandson to make Bollywood debut
Late legendary actor-filmmaker Dev Anand's grandson Rishi Anand is set to make his Bollywood debut with the remake of Govinda-starrer Saajan Chale Sasural.

Saajan Chale Sasural 2 will also feature actors Chunkey Pandey, Arya Babbar, Hemant Pandey, Sonal Monteiro and Ishita Raj in pivotal roles. It will be produced by Mansoor Ahmed Siddiqui, who had earlier produced the original film.

"I am very excited. It's too early to comment anything more on the film," Rishi said in a statement to Ians.?

Saajan Chale Sasural -- a romance-comedy film which starred Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu, late Kader Khan and Satish Kaushik -- released in 1996. It was helmed by David Dhawan.

Legendary Indian actor Dev Anand, who passed away last month in London, has been conferred with an unprecedented honour by the British Actors Union, Equity as a gesture of sympathy and international solidarity. Dev Anand’s last rites were performed at the Putney Vale Crematorium in London and his son Suneil Anand will immerse his ashes in the Godavari river in Nasik this afternoon. Mohan Churiwala, a close assistant of the legendary actor has confirmed the news. Mohan Churiwala, who escorted Suneil to Nashik from Mumbai, earlier said, "He (Suneil) is coming to Mumbai by around 12 pm.
