The zombie horror genre has always been popular, but some films did it better than others. Ahead of a new zombie film, the addition in the 28 Days Laterfranchise, 28 Years Later, set to premiere on June 20, the highest-grossing zombie film of all time is making a splash on streaming.
In 2013, Brad Pitt starred in World War Z, which is now having a resurgence on streaming. The film recently headed to a new streaming home, its studio Paramount Pictures' streaming platform, Paramount+. However, it didn't make an imminent impact on the streaming platform, but World War Z reached the Top 10 globally on Netflix,Tudum reports.
World War Z has had a long, complicated relationship with Netflix. The zombie film left the streaming service in October 2024, but it's still available internationally. For the week between June 9 and 15, World War Z debuted in the charts again in seventh place. It received 3.8 million views and 7.4 million hours viewed.

Brad Pitt had the year 2013 on lock when World War Z premiered in theaters. The film was such a success that, although its Rotten Tomatoes score isn't the highest, it still brought in over half a billion at the box office (with a $190 million budget). There were hopes of a World War Z 2, but supposedly, talks of a sequelwere "put on pause," with others saying it was canceled due to budget issues. Fans have created trailer concepts, movie posters, and all, yearning for another dose of former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane. Now they are kind of getting their wish, as World War Z VRwill be released this August.

There’s a razor-thin line between Star Trek and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Numerous actors and other talent have crossed from one franchise into another, including a married couple, though more on them in a few moments. There’s Leslie Hoffman, who played the hall guard in the original Elm Street fright fest and worked on both Deep Space Nine and Voyager as an actor, stunt performer, and/or stunt coordinator. Mimi Craven, who portrayed Jisa in the Voyager episode “Dragon’s Teeth,” appeared as a nurse in Elm Street 1. David Andrews, who made his big-screen debut in Elm Street 1, later guest-starred as Lorian, the son of T’Pol and Trip Tucker in an episode of Enterprise.
And the list goes on and on. Makeup impresario Mark Shostrom worked on Elm Street 2 and 3, and later won an Emmy Award for the Voyager episode “Threshold,” sharing it with Michael Westmore and several fellow collaborators.

As The Boys gears up for its highly anticipated final season, Antony Starr (Homelander) has shared his reaction to reading the final scripts — and it sounds like fans are in for a wild, unpredictable ride. With Season 5 marking the end for Prime Video's subserve superhero show, expectations are sky-high.
Starr talked to Collider about his mixed emotions regarding the show’s ending. While he’s grateful for the success and longevity of The Boys, he also believes that ending at Season 5 is the right call.
It’s strange because as much as I love the show, I don't like seeing things outstay their welcome, so I'm kind of glad we're finishing at five, and that's it. I love the show and the characters, so it's a bittersweet moment.Antony Starr
This should come as a relief to fans who have seen other popular series lose momentum by overstaying their welcome.

With over four hundred writing credits on IMDb, there is no disputing that Stephen King is one of the world's most influential authors. His novels, short stories, and novellas have been adapted into wildly successful films, like The Shining, Misery, and The Shawshank Redemption. Unfortunately, not every adaptation of King's works has been a home run.
Given the sheer volume of films and miniseries inspired by King, some are bound to be underwhelming. There are multiple ways an adaptation can miss the mark. In the most common scenario, a film will follow the plot of a story while missing its emotional underpinning and deeper meaning. Conversely, some films use the name of a famous novel to grab attention but abandon the details. And other times it's a simple matter of miscast characters or improper timing.

Since the earliest days of Hollywood, audiences have signaled a desire for some of their favorite stories to continue in the form of sequels, with franchises like Star Wars and Halloween being kept alive for decades. The idea of the sequel has always been hit or miss, with some filmmakers wanting their best stories to be left at one, while studios insist on keeping their ideas alive. Naturally, this has been reflected in the quality of some movies, which can either delight or divide audiences.
While some sequels rank among the greatest and most successful films ever made, others are among the worst. In the middle, however, audiences have a long list of underrated continuations, some of which failed to live up to a predecessor while others were quickly overshadowed by the next entry. Some of these movies simply flew under the radar or weren't appreciated for their time, but have aged incredibly well.

How Homelander's God-Complex Is "Slowly Driving Him Insane" In The Boys Season 5 Detailed By Creator
The Boys creator Eric Kripke has explained how Homelander's god-complex will be "slowly driving him insane" in season 5, and how it will impact the story. The Boys season 4 ended with Homelander (Antony Starr) getting appointed by Speaker of the House-turned-President Steven Calhoun (David Andrews) to a new Supe-led task force, with martial law declared across the US. This newfound position of power is the highest he's ever gotten, with the post-credits of the season finale showing him deciding to awaken Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), hinting at what's next in the final season.
Now, Variety reports that, at an FYC panel hosted by SAG-AFTRA, Kripke explained how Homelander will still be dealing with his god-complex in The Boys season 5, stemming from his trauma which has now consumed him. Horror master Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the most beloved franchises in the genre, and its famous slasher villain, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), is equally beloved. Since it has remained undeniably popular in the 40 years since the first film's release, it is hard to believe that Craven had a difficult time trying to get the project picked up. All the major studios balked at the premise, claiming they didn't think audiences would find dreams scary enough. Luckily, New Line eventually gave the movie the greenlight, thus giving birth to one of horror's most iconic franchises.
Despite being made on a lower budget, the movie became a big success and catapulted Freddy into horror icon status. The surprise success of the movie paved the way for seven sequels, a crossover with fellow horror icon Jason Voorhees, a remake, a video game, a TV series, and countless merchandise.

It's hard to overstate just how significant Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street still is. The slasher classic has successfully infiltrated our popular subconscious, reaching a sinister gloved hand into the imaginations of generations of filmmakers and reshaping modern horror cinema. It's perhaps only with hindsight that the full extent of the 1984 movie's impact can be appreciated. But even with its iconic villain, inspired premise, and archetypal story, the original A Nightmare on Elm Street is much more than an artifact to be admired. It remains a thrilling spectacle albeit with some of its originality tarnished.

Everyone has their own unique choice for the best Stephen King movie — but what's the worst?
Before Stephen King became a best selling millionaire novelist, he scratched by a meager living selling short stories on the side. Some of those early short stories appeared in the University of Maine literary journal "Ubris," but King finally made one of his first professional sales with "Graveyard Shift," a horror story purchased and published by the magazine "Cavalier" in 1970. The story would later end up in King's well-loved short story collection "Night Shift," a book that served as a kind of gateway drug to budding King fans. And as long as there have been Stephen King books there have been Stephen King movies — his 1974 debut novel "Carrie" was adapted to the screen by 1976. From there, Hollywood was off and running, bring King's work to the movies left and right.

Traditional Westerns are past their prime, but the recent renaissance brought by modern franchises like Yellowstone is worth noting. Wyatt Earp's star-studded cast and accurate portrayal of the lawman's life still couldn't save it from being a dull, overlong mess. Despite its historical accuracy, Wyatt Earp's attempt to tell a complete story in a 3-hour runtime was met with mixed reviews.
The Western is one of the most iconic genres in all of film history. Often taking place in the years following the California Gold Rush of 1849, these films showcase the struggle and determination of Americans seeking to conquer the undiscovered frontier. This genre has resonated with viewers for years due to its emphasis on the American spirit. However, no one would deny that traditional Westerns are past their prime.
They have seen a renaissance in recent years, thanks partly to franchises like Yellowstone that put a modern take on the classic format.

A mercenary of the Jiménez cartel, Javier Jiménez (Alfonso Herrera) was introduced in Queen of the South season 3, only to be killed off in season 4, and his abrupt departure raised some eyebrows. Premiering on the USA Network in 2016, Queen of the South ran for five seasons, finishing its run in 2021. Queen of the South is a remake of Spanish-language telenovela La Reina del Sur, and it follows Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), a woman who builds a drug empire in Mexico after fleeing to the United States. As Teresa's success and wealth grow, so does her profile and the list of people wanting to take her down.
Though he might not be smart, Javier being killed off of Queen of the South was a huge blow for everyone who had grown attached to the loyal mercenary. But the successful Herrera has starred in several projects since leaving Queen of the South...

80s sci-fi romance Cherry 2000 was set in the year 2017, but how close was it to envisioning society as it is today?
This article contains spoilers about Cherry 2000…

Did it deliver? Kinda, but in order to establish why the movie failed to ignite the masses, we’ll need to rewind a little further back in time and teleport to a little place full of glitz, glamour and showbusiness called Hollywood,...

This week on ABC’s Castle, Ryan’s latest gig working private security resulted in a very public tragedy, while Beckett’s identification with a murder victim helped nudge her to make a career move.

What this Ryan-centric outing had over, say, Season 5’s “Fenton O’Connell” undercover op is that we had Ryan being Ryan — though he was markedly more serious, since he took it quite personally that the shooting of a congressman and an associate went down under his watch.
Also, the Case of the Week was pretty well-crafted.

*there are spoilers here. Director: Kevin Greutert. Writer: Robert Ben Garant. Cast: Sarah Snook, Joelle Carter, Mark Webber, David Andrews and Ana de la Reguera. Jessabelle is a supernatural thriller. This title was recently released through video-on-demand, by Blumhouse Production. Lacking in any true horror, the film offers a great setting, but a mundane tone. Thrills are relegated to a few fight scenes as the protagonist does her best to uncover a long buried family secret. Her digging uncovers several tropes, with the film moving towards a predictable conclusion. Jessabelle is a very watered down thriller, which will satisfy few. The story begins with tragedy. Jessabelle (Sarah Snook) is ready to start a family, with her boyfriend and new baby. A speeding semi, in a residential area, puts her dreams to rest, permanently. Jessabelle is forced to stay with her father, in a remote mansion. Here, she begins to see strange visions,...

Ring Her Bell: Greutert Steps Outside Franchise For Promising Results
Considering that Jessabelle is directed by editor and eventual director of two Saw films, Kevin Greutert (he got credit for six and straight-to-dvd release number seven), his first foray outside of schlock genre isn’t the torporific eyesore one might have predicted. Written by Robert Ben Garant, better known as Deputy Travis Junior from the series “Reno 911!,” the film manages enough general interest to keep us wondering what will happen to its protagonist, even though it’s lack of tension and absence of thrills racks up quite a bit of dismay. Though a pleasantly peculiar finale at last breaks free of its quagmire of cliché, it can’t quite make up for the inert build-up, as well as a handful of illogical details that annul any of the film’s more successful moments.

Jessabelle is a bit of an odd experience, blending a fangless voodoo fantasy with some seriously unnerving scares about inner-demons going bump in the night. While such an imbalance might not sound completely unheard of, the seamless way Reno 911! prankster Robert Ben Garant scripts this Southern spooker manages to polish rougher edges with invasive psychological horror that’s surprisingly nightmare-worthy. Even with director Kevin Greutert’s horror experience coming from the overly-gory Saw franchise – specifically the final two splatterfests – Jessabelle remains solely story-driven thanks to atmospheric haunted house tropes, not distracting, stomach-churning gore. Isn’t it nice when horror movies respect their audience and take time to craft white-knuckle scares worthy of a few less hours of sleep, instead of Ouija-like backhanded scare tactics?

Finally an official one-sheet is here for Jessabelle, the new film from Saw VI and Saw 3D director Kevin Greutert. Given this director's twisted past, we have to say this one is pretty damned fitting. Check it out!
Originally set for release in January of this year, the paranormal flick was recently pushed back to August and just today has been pushed back again. It's now set to hit both theaters and VOD outlets on November 7th so mark your calendars!
The flick stars Sarah Snook, Mark Webber, David Andrews, Joelle Carter, Ana de la Reguera, Larisa Oleynik, Chris Ellis, Fran Bennett, and Amber Stevens.
The film is being brought to us by the folks behind Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister, and Dark Skies - Jason Blum, Paul Young, and Peter Principato, who are producing for Blumhouse Productions and Principato-Young Entertainment.

Jessabelle just wants to heal, but she’ll get hell for her efforts. Wheelchair-bound as she recuperates from a car accident that killed her boyfriend, Jessabelle returns home to be near her father, but ends up getting too close to a malevolent spirit that haunts the house. Originally slated for a late summer release, the premiere of Jessabelle has been pushed back slightly by Blumhouse Productions to a different season.
Jessabelle will now hit theaters and on-demand services on November 7th. For those unfamiliar with the film, we have the synopsis, cast list, and trailer:
“From the mastermind producer of Paranormal Activity and Insidious comes the ghostly tale of Jessabelle. Returning to her childhood home in Louisiana to recuperate from a horrific car accident, Jessabelle (Sarah Snook of Sleeping Beauty) comes face to face with a long-tormented spirit that has been seeking her return — and has no intention of letting her escape.
