Michael Imperioli (‘The White Lotus: Sicily’) could join niche group of SAG Awards winners
Image
As one of the stars of HBO’s “The White Lotus: Sicily,” Michael Imperioli has a strong shot at sharing in a Screen Actors Guild Award win for Best TV Drama Ensemble. He stands apart from his cast mates in that he has triumphed in this category before, for “The Sopranos” in 2000 and 2008. His potential third victory would put him in the company of just two other actors who have won this award for two different series. As it happens, they both also initially prevailed as members of the “Sopranos” cast.

The SAG Awards club Imperioli is looking to join was initiated by Greg Antonacci, who won Best TV Drama Ensemble for “The Sopranos” in 2008 and “Boardwalk Empire” in 2011. Dominic Chianese then met the criteria by being awarded for the same two shows in 2000 and 2012, respectively. “Boardwalk Empire” star Steve Buscemi, who shared in the series’ two ensemble wins, was...

‘Boardwalk Empire’ Season 3, Episode 4: ‘Blue Bell Boy’ Recap
Well, ‘Blue Bell Boy’ makes two things very clear: Al Capone (Stephen Graham) has little tolerance for bullies, and Nucky (Steve Buscemi) does not suffer smart-mouthed youngsters very well.

For whatever reason, Boardwalk Empire, has never really played Capone up as a figure on his own – he’s always been stuck with Jimmy or answering to Johnny Torrio (Greg Antonacci) – but ‘Blue Bell Boy’ paints the soon-to-be larger than life gangster in a distinctly human way. Entering season 3, Capone has risen from smart-mouthed troublemaker to a man who knows the benefit of presenting himself as someone with style, class and character. It’s a role he’s playing - like everyone else who bothers convincing the world around them they’re not just a gangster – and as much as Capone enjoys the part, he’s got ...

Blu-ray Review: Boardwalk Empire – Season 1
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Once upon a time television was where people who used to be in the movies went to die. I’m not qualified to pinpoint the exact moment where that all changed, but it definitely has. Arguably American cable channel HBO has trumped the movies, wedding the slick production values and top talent of Hollywood with a format that allows for vastly extended running times. This has enabled complex and incredibly dense dramas (like The Wire, Deadwood and now Michael Mann’s Luck) to flourish, telling stories that just wouldn’t fit comfortably into two hours – aimed at a mature audience driven from the multiplex. Martin Scorsese – director of the pilot episode of the phenomenal Boardwalk Empire – has likened this elongated form to the novel, effectively positioning movies as short stories by comparison.

The first season of Boardwalk Empire is as eye-catching and exciting a marriage of...

'Boardwalk Empire' finale peek: Retribution is coming
Ep. 12 Preview

We're not entirely sure what to expect from the Season 1 finale of "Boardwalk Empire" Sunday night (Dec. 5), but knowing Nucky (Steve Buscemi), it'll be emotional.

In the episode innocuously titled "Return to Normalcy," Election Day has arrived, and all of Atlantic City is bracing itself. It's a time for reflection, and Margaret (Kelly Macdonald) has come quite a long way from when she was a battered housewife. But does her new position -- with all its implications of power and sin -- sit well with her?

Jimmy (Michael Pitt), Van Alden (Michael Shannon) and Eli (Shea Wingham) are also thinking of what the future holds, while Johnny Torrio (Greg Antonacci) is the go-between for two enemies.

We're sure it'll all end happily and no one will scream or get offed in any violent way. Then again, the clip's "Retribution is coming" line doesn't bode well. Whose retribution?...

Boardwalk Empire Season 1 Episode 2: “The Ivory Tower” Debut: Sunday, Sept. 26 (9:00-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt) Investigating a crime which he feels has been pinned on a scapegoat, straight-arrow Agent Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon) pays a visit to Nucky and leaves convinced that the Treasurer is “as corrupt as the day is long.” Nucky quickly does damage control, enlisting his brother, Sheriff Elias Thompson (Shea Whigham), to close ranks with their underlings. Meanwhile, in Chicago, Al Capone (Stephen Graham) shows a local reporter what he thinks about accusations that Johnny Torrio (Greg Antonacci) was involved in the slaying of local mobster “Big Jim” Colosimo (Frank Crudele). Back in Atlantic City, Nucky discusses the upcoming election with his aging mentor, Commodore Louis Kaestner (Dabney Coleman), with whom he debates the women’s vote issue.
